Based on the Israeli series “On the Spectrum” and created by Emmy winner Jason Katims, Amazon Prime’s dramedy “As We See It” follows three 20-something roommates on the autism spectrum as they strive to navigate the highs and lows of life in a world that eludes them. Actor Rick Glassman stars as one of said roommates, Jack, an intelligent web designer struggling for financial stability after learning that his father (Joe Mantegna) has been diagnosed with cancer. On the topic of representing autism, Glassman told Gold Derby in our exclusive video interview (watch above), “There is no one voice that’s supposed to represent anything for anybody.”
For Glassman, who was diagnosed with autism five years ago, representing the neurodevelopmental disorder came with a great deal of responsibility: “I was fearful of the responsibility of, if the show works and I start to do interviews, press etc., I’m...

With “As We See It,” creator Jason Katims has clear objectives: to let people on the autism spectrum be at the centers of their own stories, and to tell those stories with the kind of care they’re otherwise rarely afforded on TV. Whereas a comedy like Josh Thomas’ “Everything’s Going to Be Okay” — which also gave people with autism the spotlight — largely focused on the intersection between the absurd and sublime, . It’s a lot to ask of a show to handle all the above with both sensitivity and a clear eye for narrative, but Katims and company continually find a way to thread this particularly tricky needle.
The new eight-episode series, out today on Amazon Prime Video, focuses on a trio of roommates on the autism spectrum. Programmer Jack (Rick Glassman), sweetheart Harrison (Albert Rutecki), and frustrated Violet (Sue Ann Pien) are all doing their best, with...

Nobody brightens a room on Hulu’s “Shrill” like Lolly Adefope’s Fran. Always in the corner of series lead Annie (Aidy Bryant), Fran helps her navigate boyfriends, her career and her relationship with her micromanaging mother. Fran is confident in her support, but Season 2 allows her own worries to take center-stage, too. In the fifth episode, the show explores Fran’s history when she attends a family wedding and confronts her Nigerian mother (Délé Ogundiran) on her judgmental stance toward her homosexuality and choice of profession.
Adefope: In Season 1, Fran seems kind of indestructible, which is a very inspiring character to see, but maybe not a whole picture. I was really glad that we got to see her showing some of her insecurities and not just being this sound adviser for Annie to take what she needs from. Fran was able to take what she needs from other characters as well.

Some interesting casting news is coming out of the IMDb (so take that for what it's worth) pertaining to the remake of William Lustig's classic slasher film Maniac. The cause of all of our killer's lunacy has been chosen ... and more!
According to the site America Olivo (pictured; Friday the 13th, Bitch Slap) will play the mother of Frank (Elijah Wood) in Franck Khalfoun's remake of the 1980's classic Maniac.

According to the unreliable IMDb, the incredibly sexy America Olivo (Friday the 13th, Bitch Slap) will play the mother of Frank (Elijah Wood) in Franck Khalfoun's now-filming remake of the 1980's classic Maniac. They also report that Morgane Slemp, Sal Landi, Dan Hunter, Freedom, Délé Ogundiran, Steffinnie Phrommany and Joshua De La Garza will also star alongside previously announced Nora Arnezeder and Genevieve Alexandra. Produced by Alex Aja, "Wood plays the role of a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins. He finds victims on the Internet and stalks them like prey, all the while suffering from hallucinations that throw him back into the past, when he was abused by his own mother. In his twisted mind, he gains a measure of revenge against his mother with each kill."...

When hobbits go bad, they look like Elijah Wood murderin’ women in “Maniac”, a redo of the 1890 movie of the same name by William Lustig. Check out some set images from Wood’s latest, which finds the former happy-go-lucky hobbit engaging in some, er, not so happy-go-lucky actions with an unfortunate female victim. “Maniac” finds Wood playing Frank, a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins, who gets his jollies off murdering women in an attempt to exact revenge against his mother, who had, not surprisingly, abused the little chap when he was a wee tyke. “Wrong Turn at Tahoe” and “P2′s” Franck Khalfoun directs. Wood stars, with Hank Azaria, Nora Arnezeder, Sal Landi, Délé Ogundiran, and Dan Hunter in the cast. “Maniac” features a screenplay by co-writer Alexandre Aja of “Piranha 3D” fame (though for my money, he’ll always be the guy who...

Elijah Wood was recently spotted on the set of director Franck Khalfoun's upcoming Maniac remake, written and produced by Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja.
