Nick Principe, who slashed his way through the Laid to Rest films as Chromeskull, has shifted his focus from acting to competitive Muay Thai.

Embracing Chromeskull as his fighting nickname, Principe enlisted two artists friends to design shirts to support his new career.

“To mark this special occasion of entering the fight game, and to help pay the staggering medical fees of the license, I got my incredibly talented friends Tom “The Dude Designs” Hodge and Alan Robert to each design a shirt for me,” Principe told Bloody Disgusting. “I can’t thank them enough for helping me.”

Hodge — known for creating retro-style art for the likes of Hobo with a Shotgun, The Innkeepers, and WolfCop — combined Chromeskull with Rocky for a blood-splattered design screen printed on black or pink tees and black or grey crewnecks.

Introduced in Robert Hall’s 2009 slasher Laid to Rest, intimidating villain Chromeskull cut a striking figure onscreen, with multi-pointed shark blades in each hand and a shiny skull mask sat atop his pitch black suit. Co-created by the man behind the mask, Nick Principe, Chromeskull has been absent from screens for the last fourteen years, though Hall attempted to craft a trilogy capper with Laid to Rest: Exhumed before his untimely death in 2021.

When we last caught up with Principe, he detailed plans to move the slasher into another medium with the upcoming comic book The Reflection of Fear. Now, he’s pushing the character further still, this time into the world of…Muay Thai fighting?!

Back in 2009, director Robert Green Hall introduced the world to a chrome-masked maniac called ChromeSkull in the very cool slasher Laid to Rest. A divisive sequel called ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2 followed two years later – and as the years went by, Hall let it be known that he intended to make another sequel called Laid to Rest: Exhumed. Sadly, he wasn’t able to make that movie before he passed away unexpectedly back in 2021. But Nick Principe – who recently wrote and starred in the horror thriller Johnny & Clyde and also played ChromeSkull in both Laid to Rest movies – has revealed to our friends at Bloody Disgusting that he intends to continue the Laid to Rest franchise with a comic book called The Reflection of Fear!

Released in 2009 in the midst of the same neo-slasher run that produced Hatchet’s Victor Crowley and Behind the Mask’s Leslie Vernon, writer/director/special effects makeup artist Robert Hall’s Laid to Rest introduced horror fans to Chromeskull (Nick Principe), a towering slasher in a sleek suit and polished mask who carries out all manner of mayhem while chasing after a hapless group of blue collar victims across a desolate stretch of country under the cover of night. A sequel followed in 2011, continuing on from the previous film’s events and revealing that the vicious killer commands a group of subordinates who do his bidding, including Chromeskull wannabe Preston (Brian Austin Green) and the devious Spann (Danielle Harris). Vault director Tom DeNucci’s new film Johnny & Clyde is usually referred to as a “crime thriller”, but we’ve also heard that the story shifts gears to become a “balls-to-the-wall slasher/horror” flick. Since I have been a dedicated slasher fan since the 1980s, I’m looking forward to checking it out when it receives a theatrical and VOD release this Friday, May 5th. To be fair, you know what you’re in for with any Asylum movie that is homaging a bigger-budget Hollywood flick… After all it’s become de rigueur for David Michael Latt and co. to produce what have been affectionately dubbed “mockbusters” for all the big Summer blockbusters: films such as Transmorphers, American Battleship, The Terminators, Almighty Thor, Battle of Los Angeles, and Avengers Grimm. But watching a mockbuster from The Asylum doesn’t neccesarily mean audiences are in for a terrible time, there are often sparks of genius within their films – be it some great casting or an inspired plot.

Man, The Last Heist boasts one damn-fine hook – bank robbers accidentally lock themselves inside with a serial killer who starts picking them off one by one. On premise alone, Mike Mendez’s latest B-Movie hopeful is enough to get genre fans all revved-up – but dammit if execution doesn’t topple such a fragile structure. This is a low-budget flick that reeks of low-budgeting, never able to overcome actors who are obviously shooting fake guns or CGI effects that stick out like digital bullet holes. What should be a raucous heist/slasher hybrid plays like a slightly-elevated game of cops and robbers, cheap in value and lacking in performances.

Exclusive: Toronto-based Raven Banner Entertainment has secured worldwide rights to the mutant shark-infested, Nazi zombie creature feature and will start sales in Cannes.

Marc Fehse directed Sky Sharks and the cast includes Robert Lasardo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Nick Principe, Lar Park-Lincoln and Lynn Lowry.

Production is set for January 2016 on the story of a team of Antarctic geologists who uncover an experimental Nazi weapon and enlist an elite team to eradicate the monstrous threat.

James Fler and Michael Paszt negotiated rights for Raven Banner with producer Yazid Benfeghoul.

“Our relationship with B-films goes a long way back,” said Fehse. “It was about time we made one of our own that uniquely blends CG with quality practical effects.

A Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes film from Universal Pictures, Ouija comes out on Blu-ray and DVD today and to celebrate the film’s home media release, Universal recently hosted a get-together in Hollywood that included Jason Blum and real life Ouija guru Robert Murch (an advisor on the film), who showed those in attendance how to conduct a proper seance:

Mactropolis Films is developing an indie horror title called Sky Sharks. This film production company has developed features such as Legend of Hell (2012), The Power of Soul (2013) and Spores (2015). Their latest deals with Nazi flying sharks, likely trying to capitalize on films like Sharknado (2013). Sky Sharks stars Robert Lasardo, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Nick Principe. Now, several posters, including character posters, are hosted here. To expand on the outlandish story, several geologists discover a Nazi laboratory. Located in the Arctic, this laboratory houses secret weapons and biological agents. The geologists unleash disturbing experiments, including flying sharks and the undead. Now, the skies are full of rotting flesh and razor sharp cartilage. Humanity must fight the unvanquishable! Currently, Sky Sharks is in the early stages of production. Late last year, Epic Pictures Group teased Tales of Halloween, a horror anthology movie that will feature segments from Lucky McKee, Darren Lynn Bousman, Neil Marshall, and more. Today, we have a new details on the short films, including with the cast list, which reveals planned cameos from Joe Dante, John Landis, Adam Green, Mick Garris, Stuart Gordon, and Adrienne Barbeau:

When asked what the hometown of horror is, Providence, Ri, doesn't immediately come to mind. But Woodhaven has become a prolific horror studio, located right in the heart of New England, and we recently visited the set of their newest film, Almost Mercy.

The location was a no-tell motel where, if the walls could talk…Omg, the stories they would tell! It was the perfect setting for one of the key scenes for the film. Director Tom DeNucci took some time out of his shooting schedule to talk about Almost Mercy and the progress of Woodhaven Productions.

"The film is definitely darker, definitely more sinister. It has a lot less of the campy throwback horror-comedy," DeNucci said. "However, it does have a very slick, cutting and mean dark comedy to it, which is fun. I've never had a chance to flex those muscles before. That I attribute to getting to work with B.
