J-Hope has released a new single, “Mona Lisa,” along with an accompanying music video. The upbeat song was co-produced by the singer with Blake Slatkin (Charlie Puth, Sam Smith, Lizzo).
The BTS member titled the single after Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece painting. A press release notes, “The track likens the praise for the alluring person to the timeless masterpiece. It conveys that what truly moves someone is not external beauty, but rather the distinctive characteristics that make each person special.”
J-Hope initially debuted the song during a recent performance at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

Propstore is set to kick off its latest Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in Los Angeles next week. One of the highlights of the auction is the screen-used Necronomicon from The Evil Dead. The piece comes from the collection of special effects master Tom Sullivan, who worked on the Evil Dead trilogy. Bidding will start at $25,000, but it is expected to go for anywhere between $50,000 and $100,000—not exactly a small chunk of change.
“This book is composed of a brown latex-coated cardboard cover filled with hand-illustrated 38 pages (glued together in pairs to form thicker pages) of parchment-color paper that were intentionally distressed by production,” reads the description of the Necronomicon in the auction listing. “The pages feature original artwork hand-illustrated by Sullivan, with his main inspiration for the imagery being Leonardo Da Vinci’s notebooks on anatomy. For the ancient symbols, Sullivan devised his own alphabet that he humorously called ‘Bullscrit.

"Wicked," released with enough green and pink merchandising to choke a horse, has been one of the rare musical extravaganzas to cross over from an audience of theater enthusiasts into the mainstream. Based on the popular Broadway musical starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth (which in turn was based on a Gregory Maguire novel of the same name), "Wicked" tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West from "The Wizard of Oz." Elphaba ends up becoming roommates with Glinda (Ariana Grande as the future good witch) while they're both studying magic at university. An unlikely friendship blossoms between the two total opposites -- until it's suddenly tested by the lure of the Wizard and his Emerald City.
"Wicked" was a smash hit, earning over $700 million at the box office and 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Erivo), and Best Supporting Actress (Grande). It ultimately won...

Seven people were due to stand trial in Paris on Wednesday on charges of making death threats and cyberbullying against director Thomas Jolly in the wake of his controversial Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony last July.

A number of the insults were reported at the time to have been antisemitic in nature. Jolly is not Jewish.
The accused face maximum jail terms of seven years and fines of up to €75,000, if found guilty.

Arguably, three of the most popular franchises in recent (or past or future) memory are Back to the Future, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek, and the stars of all three recently appeared at a Vancouver convention. Christopher Lloyd, John Rhys-Davies, and William Shatner all appeared at the recent Fan Expo Vancouver and posed for an iconic photo together.
Lloyd, who played Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, posted an epic photo to the social media site X that featured himself, Star Trek’s Captain James T. Kirk (Shatner), and The Lord of the Rings trilogy’s Gimli (Davies). Lloyd captioned the picture: “The final frontier, the future, or middle-earth…your choice.”

At the time of its premiere, no one was sure if The Vampire Diaries would be a hit with audiences. Twilight had already been released, and some thought vampires were a tired story. Vampires are clearly timeless because The Vampire Diaries created a franchise on The CW that would last over a decade. Adapted from the L.J. Smith books of the same name, the romance follows a human, Elena Gilbert, struggling to adjust after the tragic death of her parents. With a little brother at home raised by their ill-prepared aunt, Jenna, Elena finds refuge in the arms of two vampire brothers.
Over the course of eight seasons, Elena makes the ultimate choice between Stefan and Damon Salvatore, no matter how divisive it may be.

Prior to its release in 1991, there was every reason to believe that Michael Lehmann's heist comedy "Hudson Hawk" would be a hit. It was written by star screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, who had already had gigantic success with film like "48 Hrs.," "Commando," "Jumping Jack Flash," and "The Running Man." His biggest smash was "Die Hard" in 1988, and he was tapped to write the sequel two years later. "Hudson Hawk" would re-team de Souza with "Die Hard" star Bruce Willis, and the film would boast performances from Danny Aiello, fresh from "Moonstruck," as well as James Coburn, Richard E. Grant, Sandra Bernhard, and Andie MacDowell. Lehmann, meanwhile, also had a big cult success in 1988 with "Heathers." Never mind that his bonkers mutant-bug movie "Meet the Applegates" bombed in 1990. The sensibility was there.

Celebrity documentaries are commanding lofty price tags at the moment, even though “star power” itself seems to be losing its sizzle.
The facts are nasty: Superstar endorsements carried zero clout in the presidential elections. Further, studios have lost their zeal for the once pivotal pre-opening star interview circuit. Superstar vehicles like Wolfs (George Clooney and Brad Pitt) drifted before audiences with limited exposure to blurbdom. Sequel numbers carry greater weight than festival fervor.
Defying this algorithmic blur, Apple TV still felt its Billie Eilish caper was worth $27 million, and Disney forked out $32 million for Elton John: Never Too Late. Disney also paid handsomely for a new/old doc titled Beatles ’64 from Paul McCartney, premiering this week. Could Taylor Swift be far behind?
Intriguingly, audiences still register an appetite for docs about past legends like Humphrey Bogart as well as semi-present ones like Bob Dylan — even litigating about their validity.

In Peter Jackson's 2001 fantasy epic "The Lord of he Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," actor John Rhys-Davies played the role of Gimli the Dwarf, an axe-wielding warrior who served as a gruff, comedic counterpoint to the otherwise po-faced and poised characters. Rhys-Davies reprised the role in the two follow-up films, as well as in several "Lord of the Rings" spinoff video games. He also played ancillary characters like Gloin and Treebeard. His association with "Lord of the Rings" would be an impressive pop milestone for any actor, but Rhys-Davies has also enjoyed a hugely long career with appearances in dozens of other notable pop properties over several decades.
In addition to "Lord of the Rings," Rhys-Davies has costarred in several Indiana Jones movies (including "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny"), voiced characters in high-profile Disney films, and acted in dozens of fun horror movies and adventure flicks.

Is there really such a thing as a perfect work of art? If you subscribe to the notion that everything man-made is inherently flawed in some aspect, then no -- though you've quite the uphill climb if you're looking to find fault with Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa," William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," or Prince's "Little Red Corvette."
But perfection isn't strictly a judgment of nuts-and-bolts craftsmanship. It's a spiritual thing. And some works of art just feel flawless. This is particularly true of movies. Unless you're the kind of dullard who walks into a movie looking for continuity errors as stinging evidence of artistic shortcoming, you know that a movie that stirs you to the core of your being is a kind of ineffable achievement. It is perfect in every way to you, and that's all that matters.

Wherever you go, there you are. That iconic line has become a pop culture mainstay thanks to one of the strangest movies of the 80s, Buckaroo Banzai or, as it is formally titled, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. This 1984 science fiction movie has been a cult classic for four decades and remains a fan favorite thanks to its virtually unexplainable plot. Part comedy, part action, part scifi, part martial arts, part musical, part western, part satire and part of a franchise that never came to be, Buckaroo Banzai may be the single most bizarre movie we have ever covered for this series.

Lots of folks trace the origins of cinema to Eadweard Muybridge’s timed sequence photography or William Kennedy Dickson’s kinetoscope, but Ken Burns makes a convincing case that the true spirit of filmmaking starts with Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”
Burns and co-directors Sarah Burns and David McMahon broke out every tool in their documentary belt in order to demonstrate how Da Vinci brought emotion and intention to his painting in “Leonardo Da Vinci.” And the filmmaking in this two-part PBS series really does feel akin to the dynamism of Da Vinci’s work, within a documentary framework.
Split screens between the usual archival material and modern photography of bodies, animals, and objects in motion act as visual proof of the lateral connections Da Vinci saw between everything. “There’s a huge explosion of technique here. But the process is the same as every film I’ve ever worked on,...

It’s a match made in heaven the good place.
Emmy winner Ted Danson reunites with creator Mike Schur for “A Man on the Inside,” a new Netflix comedy about a retired engineering professor who, with a little prodding from his daughter (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) to start living his life again following the death of his wife, goes undercover at a posh retirement home after answering a classified ad. Across eight episodes (all streaming now), Charles attempts to discover what happened to a cherished family heirloom; what he finds instead is a new lease on life, as he quickly endears himself to everyone around him, from his fellow residents to the retirement home’s congenial staff.
Inspired by the Oscar-nominated documentary “The Mole Agent,” the series joins critically acclaimed comedies like “Hacks” and “Only Murders in the Building” in putting seniors at the forefront of their stories, reminding us that...

More than 500 years after his death, the works of Leonardo da Vinci have never been more ubiquitous. “Mona Lisa” just got her own Lego set, and recently played a central role in Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” A controversial allusion to his famed “The Last Supper” during this summer’s Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony reacquainted the masses with the iconic image’s origins, and his “Vitruvian Man” is still a staple on the walls of anatomy classrooms across the globe.
The Italian Renaissance painter and intellectual, who produced only around 20 paintings in his lifetime, was the epitome of a man ahead of his time. He also happens to be exactly the kind of posthumously appreciated figure about which Ken Burns has spent his career making seminal documentary films. Yet, more so than any of his previous subjects, the Emmy-winning filmmaker thinks da Vinci could have mastered the modern day.

PBS’ new two-part, four-hour Leonardo da Vinci probably won’t redefine the identity of Ken Burns, renowned as a documentary chronicler of all things Americana.
But it does find the director, working with frequent collaborators Sarah Burns and David McMahon, in markedly different terrain, both historically and culturally. More than that, Leonardo da Vinci (we’ll see how many times I write Leonardo DiCaprio as the title here) finds the team working with a very different visual and rhetorical approach, making a project that isn’t really enlightening about da Vinci as a person, but explores the polymath’s intellectual and artistic processes in a way that’s effectively cumulative and often fascinating.
It remains my consistent feeling that Burns and company are better the more primary source interview subjects they have. It’s why I love Baseball, why I think The Dust Bowl is underrated and why I prefer...

Ken Burns’ latest documentary masterwork, a pioneering two-part series that transforms our understanding of one of history’s most astonishing polymaths, brings Leonardo da Vinci’s art and science to vivid life. Burns, along with his daughter Sarah and son-in-law David McMahon, creates an immersive investigation of a genius centuries ahead of his time.
This four-hour documentary deeply explores Leonardo’s incredible life, nuancedly portraying a man who flawlessly combined art, science, and imagination. The series focuses on fewer than ten completed paintings while revealing hundreds of notebook pages overflowing with revolutionary ideas, revealing Leonardo’s restless intellectual drive.
Burns and his team have produced something more than a typical biographical documentary. They created a dynamic visual narrative that captures Leonardo’s distinct viewpoint with split screens, historical footage, and imaginative cinematography. Keith David narrates the documentary and features an intriguing musical composition by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, bringing Leonardo’s world to life.

Did Leonardo DiCaprio Want To Play Marvel Legend Stan Lee Onscreen? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Okay, get this—Leonardo DiCaprio, yes the Leo, always had his eye on playing none other than Stan Lee, the man who pretty much created the Marvel Universe. Crazy, right? At 94, Stan Lee spilled the tea at Hascon, revealing that he talked about doing a movie about his life with Leo. Oh, and did I mention DiCaprio is his neighbor? That’s right, two legends living next door to each other. It must be nice.
Stan remembered chatting with Leo a few months ago, where Leo was all like, “Man, it’d be fun to do your story on the big screen.” Stan, being his usual witty self, shot back, “Well, I’ll audition you. Gotta make sure you can pull it off.” Classic Stan, keeping things real. Guess Leo had to prove he could do...

Note: The following story contains spoilers from the “Grotesquerie” finale.
“Grotesquerie” may not yet officially have a Season 2 renewal, but that hasn’t stopped co-creator Ryan Murphy and star Niecy Nash-Betts from talking about the FX series’ future.
“We talked about a second season before we ever filmed the first page of dialogue,” Nash-Betts told TheWrap. “Ryan always has a plan. I’m privy to doing things, but you don’t want to give any spoilers.”
That’s especially true of this horror thriller, which stands as one of the most tense and winding series of the year. “Grotesquerie” started as a comparatively simple story at the beginning of Season 1, following Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) as she attempted to solve a series of increasingly disturbing murders in her small town. That premise was completely upended in “Unplugged,” an installment that revealed Lois was actually in a coma and all...

Batman is one of the most iconic comic book characters of all time, second in popularity only to Spider-Man. Unlike classic heroes like Superman, Batman doesn’t embody traditional ideals of heroism. Instead, his dark, complex world is what fans have come to admire and respect.
Interestingly, Batman didn’t start out with such a gritty persona. Originally introduced in the 1940s as a somewhat campy character, he evolved over the decades, becoming a cornerstone of DC Comics by the 1980s and helping to usher in a darker, more mature era in comic storytelling.
Most fans know Batman’s stories, but have you ever wondered about the origins of his unique design? While several influences shaped his look, one of the most unexpected sources was none other than the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci. In this article, we’ll explore how da Vinci’s genius helped inspire Batman’s iconic design.

Does A board game transporting the players to another world, where they would have to use their predetermined powers and wits to foil the plan of a mystical evil sound familiar? Well, because it is. Now, if I tell you there is a pack of werewolves involved and a version of Leonardo da Vinci in the same world. However silly it sounds, you cannot help but feel intrigued by the sheer absurdness of this premise. That is what Francois Uzan’s “Family Pack” (Original title: Loups-Garous) has in its strength column. That helps the French film rise above the obvious familiarity with “Jumanji.” The goofy texture of the story elevates the otherwise generic medieval fantasy tale, helping it become a classic escapist funfair for the holiday seasons.
Family Pack ‘Netflix’ Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis: A Journey into a Medieval Game Reality

Charles Dance is to star as Michelangelo in a BBC-PBS docu-drama about the renaissance.
Dance is leading Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty, examining how some of the greatest works of art in the Western world were born out of an era of violence, power politics and rivalry.
The BBC said the show will “reveal an unfamiliar side to the Renaissance,” with Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael also represented along with their patrons in 16th-century Italy.
Dance is well known for playing villains and authoritative characters on screen. The Emmy-nominee’s past credits include The Crown, in which he played Lord Mountbatten, Game of Thrones and The Imitation Game.
With Renaissance, the BBC is embracing the current penchant for historical docu-drama, which has seen Netflix make similar shows on the likes of Cleopatra, Alexander the Great and the Russian Tsars.
