The cast of the newsroom drama ‘The Broken News’ Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shriya Pilgaonkar were spotted shooting for the second season of the series in Andheri, Mumbai, on Monday.

“The Scavenger of Dreams” has its world premiere in the ‘A Window On Asian Cinema’ strand. A treatise on social inequality, the film follows Birju and Shona, trash collectors who live in a Kolkata slum with their young daughter. They scour the city’s affluent areas by day for garbage and their experiences become the grist of stories for their daughter by night.

Like “Aadhaar,” “The Scavenger of Dreams,” then called “The Waste Collector,” was also at Busan’s Asian Project Market, where it gained significant exposure. The germ of the film was from a New York Times article about waste collectors that Ghosh read years ago that stayed with him.

Parambrata Chattopadhyay is the latest actor to play Oscar-winning Indian master Satyajit Ray’s detective Prodosh Chandra Mitter Aka Feluda in streamer ZEE5 Global’s series “Shabash Feluda.”

Feluda first appeared in the Ray family’s Bengali-language magazine Sandesh in 1965. Ray directed two Feluda films, “The Golden Fortress” (1974) and “The Elephant God” (1978), where the Bengali detective was played by his frequent collaborator Soumitra Chatterjee. Feluda has subsequently been played by a range of Indian actors, including Shashi Kapoor, Abir Chatterjee, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Indraneil Sengupta and Bangladesh’s Ahmed Rubel.

The detective is part of the fabric of growing up in West Bengal and Bangladesh, akin to what Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple used to be for several generations in the west.

South Asian streaming service ZEE5 Global is adapting BBC drama Press as local series The Broken News, as part of a wider deal with BBC Studios.

ZEE5 and BBC Studios will work on a slate of slate of Hindi-language ZEE5 originals, beginning with a remake of Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett’s 2018 BBC drama.

Unlike the British original, the plot will switch from print news rooms to broadcast news companies. It will follow two rival news channels — the independent, ethical news channel Awaaz Bharati and Josh 24/7 News, which offers sensationalist and invasive journalism, and what transpires between the main characters in their quest for news.

The Broken News will also mark actor Sonali Bendre’s first streaming role, with director Vinay Waikul attached alongside the likes of Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Indraneil Sengupta.

New Delhi/Dhaka, May 12: The much talked-about Indian film "Children of War: Nine Months to Freedom", will have its trans-border release in Bangladesh and India on May 16.

Starring Indian actors Raima Sen, Indraneil Sengupta, Victor Banerjee, Pawan Malhotra, Tilottama Shome, and newcomers Rucha and Shatrunjay, besides the late Farooque Sheikh, the film, which has been directed by Mrityunjay Devvrat, reveals the pains and pangs of people, particularly women, revolving around the war between India and Pakistan that eventually led to the creation of the new nation of Bangladesh in 1971-72.

Even though Prateik made a splash in Bollywood with his debut film, a few wrong choices of films saw his career going nowhere. Post the debacle of his last film Issaq, he went totally missing from the Bollywood scene. Well, the good news that he will now be seen debuting in a Bengali film Arani Takhan, which is being directed by the debutante Sourav Chakraborty, the same man who had assisted Ashutosh Gowariker in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se. Talking about the film, Sourav said that the film's a journey of love between the time when Babri Masjid was demolished (1992) and the infamous Gujarat riots (2002). He added that while Prateik's character is neither positive nor negative, the film will show the transformation in him because of the aforementioned two highly sensitive incidents. While the film will be shot in Kolkatta, Mumbai and Gujarat, the film is expected to roll during the end of May.

A new film on Bengali character Byomkesh Bakshi is on the pipeline. Titled Sajarur Kanta it will be directed by Saibal Mitra. The film which will star Dhritiman Chatterjee playing the lead role of the detective, it will also have actor Indraneil Gupta (known for his role in Kahaani) along with Konkana Sen Sharma. An excited Indraneil was more than happy to share screen space with Konkana and stated that she wouldn't require an acting certificate from him considering her popularity. While Indraneil will play the role of a business man who gets involved in the murder mystery, Konkana's character in Sajarur Kanta is still being kept under wraps.
