The Actors Fund announced today that Stephen O'Donnell will donate his late twin brother Mark O'Donnell's royalties as co-writer of the Broadway musical Hairspray in perpetuity to the non-profit human services organization that helps everyone in performing arts and entertainment.

The original Broadway cast of Cry-baby took the stage at 54 Below for a reunion concert last night. Cry-Baby is based on the movie of the same name by John Waters and features a score by David Javerbaum Act of God and Adam Schlesinger Fountains of Wayne, and a book by Mark O'Donnell Hairspray andThomas Meehan Annie. Although it only ran for three months, Cry-Baby was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the long-awaited official cast album will be released shortly.

Mark O'Donnell has died, aged 58. The Tony Award-winning writer co-wrote the successful stage shows Hairspray and Cry-Baby. His agent Jack Tantleff confirmed that he collapsed on Monday (August 6) in the reception of his apartment in Manhattan, New York. A post-mortem will take place later today. O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan won a Tony Award in 2003 for their musical adaptation of the movie Hairspray. They later earned Tony nominations in 2008 for Cry-Baby. The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre has announced that national radio host Robert Aubry Davis Weta's Around Town and SiriusXM Radio will be making his stage debut, playing the iconic role of Edna in its upcoming production of the celebrated musical Hairspray. Directed by Signature Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, Hairspray will run from November 21st through January 29th. Based on the 1988 cult film directed by John Waters, Hairspray features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The musical, which played on Broadway for 6 years, took home eight 2003 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
