Last Friday, which happened to be a Friday the 13th, screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift shared some pages from the script they wrote for the unmade sequel to the 2009 version of Friday the 13th (watch it Here). In those pages, we got to read the description of a scene where a character would have been killed by iconic masked slasher Jason Voorhees while riding down a zip line. But those weren’t the only pages Shannon and Swift shared from the script last Friday. They also unveiled a couple pages that reveal what happened to Jason’s dad – and you can read them in this embed:
Ok, since it's #FridayThe13th how about one more? Our sequel script had lots of stuff for long time fans, including returning characters! Let's reveal two of them now: https://t.co/WhNTVuo2Nx pic.twitter.com/yUdnv2L6bL

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift were the writers who cracked the Freddy vs. Jason story and pulled that project out of development hell, where it had been trapped for a decade. Six years later, when Warner Bros. teamed up with Paramount and Platinum Dunes for a Friday the 13th reboot, Shannon and Swift were again the writers. (You can hear all about that Friday the 13th in our latest Wtf Happened video.) Since the reboot made over $91 million at the global box office on a budget of $19 million when it was released in February of 2009, it was no surprise when it was announced that it was going to receive a sequel, to be shot in 3-D and released on August 13, 2010. Then the studios couldn’t agree on the money split, so the sequel was shelved… but not before Shannon and Swift had already written the full script. Today, to celebrate Friday the 13th,...

Directed by Marcus Nispel from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (who share a story credit with Mark Wheaton), Friday the 13th (2009) has the following synopsis: Against the advice of locals and police, Clay scours the eerie woods surrounding Crystal Lake for his missing sister. But the rotting cabins of an abandoned summer camp are not the only things he finds. 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation': Tom Cruise. 'Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation': Tom Cruise, the last action hero There are two impossible missions in the latest Mission: Impossible. The first involves Chechen terrorists, political assassinations, the Vienna Opera House, and a car that unlocks when the user places his hand on the driver's side window (Detroit, get on that). The other impossible mission, one that is not only accepted and completed, but conquered and victoriously ground into dust, is proving that 53-year old Tom Cruise is still an action star. As Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation demonstrates with cruel ease, Cruise isn't just an action hero. In the post-movie star age, he is, with apologies to a certain Austrian bodybuilder whose drawing power is all but terminated, the last action hero. What makes him thus is not just his supreme confidence, compact good looks, and million dollar smile. The camera has...

Tom Cruise is back to save the world — again — as Ethan Hunt in “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” the fifth installment of the blockbuster spy series. The action hero was joined by his fellow stars of the hit franchise for the film’s New York City premiere at Duffy Square in Times Square on Monday, where they proved that their secret agents were just as stylish as James Bond. Cruise, who looked suave in a blue suit, walked the red carpet alongside Jeremy Renner, female leads Rebecca Ferguson and America Olivo, Alec Baldwin (with wife Hilaria), Simon Pegg, producer J.J. Abrams and director Christopher McQuarrie.

'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' star Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' trailer: Movie stunt combo "Desperate times. Desperate measures," says Tom Cruise aka Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation trailer aka the Mission: Impossible 5 and/or MI5 trailer. Whatever you call it, that particular line could be read in a number of ways: Tom Cruise's superstardom is in the doldrums – at least that's what we hear from those who see reality only through U.S.-focused lenses – and he needs all the box-office help he can get. Hence, MI5. Hollywood is in dire need of a mammoth domestic blockbuster following a year of mediocre-performing tentpoles at the U.S. box office. Hence, MI5. The world's socioeconomic fabric is about to unravel. Hence, MI5 – so humankind can go with a bang. Not only with a bang, but with mirth as well.

The TV vets continue to flock to Season 3 of "Scandal."
Following news that "Friends" alum Lisa Kudrow will be recurring during the second season of the buzzy ABC show, Deadline reports that "Heroes" star Jack Coleman has signed on as well. Little is known about his character, but what we do know is this: He'll be playing Daniel Douglas, a charming Southerner with ties to one of our Gladiators.
Other casting news:
- Following her five-year run on Syfy's "Warehouse 13," Joanne Kelly will come aboard new CBS series "Hostages." She'll be playing Vanessa, an ambitious ambassador and the sister of the First Lady of the United States (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio).
- NBC midseason spinoff "Chicago Pd" has added another to its ranks. "Degrassi: The Next Generation" alum America Olivo will recur on the drama as Laura Dawson, a business woman and wife of series regular Jon Seda's Antonio Dawson.

Joanne Kelly, who is finishing a five-year run on Syfy’s top-rated drama Warehouse 13, has been tapped for a major recurring role on the new CBS drama Hostages. She plays Vanessa, an ambitious ambassador and the sister of the First Lady of the United States (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio). Kelly is with Domain and Joannie Burstein. *Updated* Maniac, the horror-thriller remake starring Elijah Wood and Nora Arnezeder, is coming to Blu-ray in the Us next month. Considered by many as one of the better horror releases this year, Maniac is a remake of William Lustig’s 1980 slasher of the same title. The new movie was directed by Franck Khalfoun, with Lustig on board as producer, and is written by Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur.
“Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
The full cast list includes Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder, America Olivo and Sammi Rotibi. Maniac arrives on Blu-ray in the Us on October 15th. It is also already available in the UK on...

While aware that there is another Maniac review here on Nerdly, I felt the urge to review it myself after sitting down with the movie for the second time and being filled with the need to unleash words.
The original Maniac hit our screens in 1980 with Joe Spinell sludging up our televisions with his disturbingly dirty portrayal of Frank, the scalp obsessed nut-job with a heart of mould. It was a great horror movie with a fantastic lead performance and top notch gore courtesy of the maestro of visceral explosions, Tom Savini, who also has a small but memorable part in the original film.

It's safe to say we've seen the "home invasion" thriller thrown at us from every conceivable angle by this point. The premise is nothing new, of course, as those who remember the original Straw Dogs (1971) can remind you, but over the last several years we've seen a whole lot of foreign and/or independent films that involve A) a house, B) some killers, and C) a siege of some unpleasant variety.
Take your pick: Funny Games (either version), Them (aka Ils) and High Tension (aka Switchblade Romance) and Inside, The Purge and The Strangers, The Aggression Scale, the remake of Mother's Day, the long-awaited You're Next, and probably a dozen other movies we've both seen. So right off the bat it should be clear that the film we're here to discuss -- No One Lives -- is nothing close to fresh, original, or particularly novel. But the ravenous horror fans...

No One Lives director Ryuhei Kitamura took part in our latest Q&A session, telling us about his love for Driver, working with Luke Evans and Robert Hall, and what’s next:
Thank you very much for taking the time to talk with Daily Dead. What was it about the script for No One Lives that made you want to take on this project?
Ryuhei Kitamura: I loved the script because it was not just about blood and guts. I was fascinated by the character of Driver; a non-stop killing machine doing it all for love. To me this is a twisted love story.
When looking for your lead actor, was Luke Evans your first pick? What made him stand out from the pack and why was he perfect for this role?
Ryuhei Kitamura: Luke was the first and only candidate. I needed someone who was not only...

Ryuhei Kitamura’s second American film (his first was the Vinnie Jones starrer The Midnight Meat Train), No One Lives harks back to his early work – the Super 8 short Down to Hell and his most famous flick Versus – putting strangers together in a pitched battle against a common enemy.
The film starts out very much along the typical backwoods/hillbilly slant, as a gang of robbers screw up their latest mansion heist and, to make up for their loses, kidnap a couple in a car instead. It looks as though we’re seemingly headed down the torture route, with our villains set to get the information they need from the couple by any means necessary. However Kitamura flips the script and what the robbers,...
