It’s the kind of place where neighbors chat over garden fences and life moves at an unhurried pace. However, darkness is about to fall on this picturesque community.
The Marlow Murder Club introduces us to retired archaeologist Judith Potts, living out her golden years immersed in crossword puzzles from her home overlooking the Thames. Nearby resides her neighbor Stefan, though an ominous shadow soon crosses his garden during an otherwise peaceful afternoon. A gunshot cracks the silence, and though Judith is the sole witness, no body or weapon can be found.
Unconvinced by the police investigation led by determined DS Tanika Malik, Judith recruits the help of local dog walker Suzie Harris and vicar’s wife Becks Starling. Thus forms the titular murder club, as these unlikely...

Today we are recognizing Disobedience, as well as co-writer/director Sebastián Lelio, plus co-stars Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz. Our Hollywood Film Tributes recognize films and talent for their excellence in the art of filmmaking. Even though Rachel Weisz was justly nominated for her turn in The Favourite this year, it’s still a shame that her even stronger work in Disobedience wasn’t given similar attention. Her performance in Sebastián Lelio’s movie, along with that of Rachel McAdams (not to mention Alessandro Nivola), is so moving and full, you can’t help but be blown away. Oscar ignored this film, but today, we won’t be… Here is a bit from our rave review published all the way back in April: When you’re an independent film, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. When you’re an independent film, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle. That can especially be the case when opening up early on in the year and/or against a massive blockbuster movie. This week, we have a truly wonderful indie opening up against a true behemoth. The latter is obviously Avengers: Infinity War, though the former is Disobedience. A well liked title last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, it’s also currently playing at the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s tremendously good and honestly one of my favorites of 2018 so far. If you’re not looking for comic book fare, you have a top notch other option to consider. Read on to find out why… The film is a romantic drama. Distributor Bleeker Street describes it as such: “From a screenplay by Sebastián Lelio and Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the film follows a woman as she...

"We all thought we'd never see you again." Bleecker Street Films has unveiled the first official trailer for a romantic drama titled Disobedience, the latest film from Chilean director Sebastián Lelio, who also made the Oscar-nominated film A Fantastic Woman last year. This first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and will hit limited theaters this April. Disobedience stars Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams as forbidden Jewish lovers. Weisz plays Ronit, an Orthodox Jew who goes home to London, where she meets with a childhood friend and rediscovers her feelings for her. The cast includes Alessandro Nivola, Anton Lesser, Nicholas Woodeson, Cara Horgan, and Allan Corduner. This looks like it might be splendid. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Sebastián Lelio's Disobedience, direct from YouTube: A woman (Rachel Weisz) returns to her Orthodox Jewish home after the death of her rabbi father and stirs up controversy when she...
