It’s always reassuring when a pop gem from ’82 finds new life. (Don’t worry, I’m not talking “Ebony and Ivory” or “Centerfold,” so your conscience will be clear and whole after this.)

The Australian band Parralox, featuring gay lead singer John von Ahlen, just released the video for its cover of the Alan Parsons Project hit “Eye in the Sky,” and it’s an exclusive to TheBacklot. The cover is a world of ambience and extraterrestrial electronics away from the original, which was pretty unassuming for a #3 U.S. hit. Parallox’s version is downright danceable, sounding more like a Robyn smash than a rehash, and that makes the song’s voyeuristic lyrics feel that much weirder.

The brand new video features mirrored sets, model Rowena Kang, and serious Depeche Mode attitude. I guess such fun melodrama is expected from a band called Parralox, which is a reference...
