Warning: Spoilers ahead for the movies mentioned in this articleThere aren't many names you can associate with the world of horror more than the great Stephen King. The Portland, Maine-born author's work has been adapted into various TV shows and movies, and his writing isn't showing many signs of slowing down either. King’s ability to surprise, amaze, and bring us both terror, and solace, remains unsurpassed.
Since Carrie hit cinemas in 1976, Stephen King adaptations have been a regular occurrence for movie-goers. Longlegs director Osgood Perkins' new movie, The Monkey, is based on one of his short stories, and it promises to have Itchy & Scratchy-level violence. However, his influence is so great that many films have been made that are blatant rip-offs of King's work.

Marci Miller was a long-time cast member of Days of Our Lives and though she was thought to be dead, there's now a real chance the actor and her character will return to the series. One of the longest-running TV shows ever, Days of Our Lives has been detailing the ongoing betrayals, romances, friendships, and disasters between the Brady and Horton families in Salem, Illinois since 1965. In that time, there have been literally dozens of characters to come through the show, with some lasting decades and others lasting less than a season.
Days of Our Lives has already seen its fair share of cast shakeups in 2024 and even more could be coming in the form of Marci Miller, who was on the show as Abigail Dimera from 2016-2018, and 2020-2022. Well Go USA has released a new full-length trailer for the film The Endless, the latest from Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, the duo behind the cult favorite horror film Spring from 2014. The Endless is a film about two brothers, played by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead themselves, who return to the cult they fled from years ago to discover that the group's beliefs may be more sane than they once thought. There's some crazy cool twists in this that you just have to see to believe. The full cast includes Callie Hernandez, James Jordan, Lew Temple, Tate Ellington, Emily Montague, and Peter Cilella. Jeremy loved this film and wrote a glowing review, and I caught up with it in Sitges, and it's a one-of-kind mind-bender that I highly recommend seeing for yourself. "In your own words, what is 'it'?" Well Go USA has released the first teaser trailer for the new film The Endless, from Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, the duo behind the cult favorite horror film Spring from 2014 (it was in Jeremy's Top 10 of 2015 he loved it so much). The Endless is a film about two brothers, as played by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead themselves, who return to the cult they fled from years ago to discover that the group's beliefs may be more sane than they once thought. This is playing at Fantastic Fest and the London Film Festival, so take a look for your first glimpse, and keep an eye out if you're intrigued. This is a great teaser. Here's the...

To resolve is to settle, finding the determination to do something rather than simply wait for something to happen to you. A resolution isn’t therefore a firm ending. On the contrary, it serves to provide beginnings. That decision has the potential to set you onto a path towards freedom either from the danger of outside forces or the complacency rendering you immobile within. So to look upon the conclusion of Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson‘s debut feature (as a tandem) isn’t to relinquish hope. The being — their riff on H.P. Lovecraft’s “Unknown” — that watches the events in Resolution does want stories, that is true. It craves them enough to ensure its characters arrive in time for their test. To assume it seeks tragedy, however, is to ignore complexity.

In today’s casting round-up, THR reports that Jamie Dornan, Ben Mendelsohn, and sisters Jemima and Lola Kirke will be teaming together for the indie drama Untogether, the directorial debut of best-selling author Emma Forrest. The film concerns Jemima Kirke’s former-teen-prodigy-turned-junkie Andrea, who has an affair with Nick (Dornan) while she’s clean and trying to be a writer. Nick is already a successful writer, regaling the world with stories of his war-time experiences. Lola Kirke plays Jemima’s younger sister, whose relationship with the older Mendelsohn is tested when she falls for a Rabbi with an even larger age gap than her and Mendelsohn. Forrest will pen the script as well, which is being produced by Luke Daniels, Scott Lastaiti, and Brandon K. Hogan.
THR is also reporting that Michael Cera is currently in discussion to star in Aaron Sorkin‘s directorial debut Molly’s Game, alongside Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.

After a VOD and limited theatrical release earlier this year, Resolution is headed to Blu-ray, DVD, and digital platforms on October 8th.
“In an abandoned cabin on the edge of an Indian reservation, Mike (Peter Cilella) stages a risky intervention to force his friend Chris (Vinny Curran) off meth and into rehab. But what begins as an attempt to save his friend’s life takes an unexpected turn when ominous threats start appearing around the house – and they realize that Chris’s addictions are the least of their worries. One of the most talked-about discoveries of last year’s festival circuit, Resolution is genre-bending horror at its most bone-chilling.”
Resolution was directed by Justin Benson and Aaron Scott Moorhead, and stars Peter Cilella, Vinny Curran, Kurt David Anderson, Emily Montague, Skyler Meacham, and Zahn McClarnon. The movie will be released on DVD, as well as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

I have read a lot of online reviews lately bashing indie horror as a whole for being derivative, unimaginative and amateurish. I have been reviewing indie horror films for years, and I have watched my share of knockoffs made by people with no knowledge of the genre and "homages" made by filmmakers who follow the rules of the genre so slavishly that their films end up adding nothing new. Like these other critics, I get sick of it too. But every once in awhile, I come across a great indie horror movie like Resolution, a clever, innovative, unique little film that slowly gets under your skin. Title: Resolution Directors: Justin Benson and Aaron Scott Moorhead Starring: Peter Cilella, Vinny Curran, Emily Montague, Kurt Anderson, Skyler Meacham, Zahn McClarnon, Bill Oberst Jr., Josh Higgins A genre-bending, psychologically twisty, meta-horror tale that played to welcome reception at last year’s ScreamFest and Tribeca Film Festivals, “Resolution” bears a deceptively simple and straightforward title and logline synopsis for a movie that is anything but. When a well-meaning guy holes up with his old junkie friend in a cabin in the woods and forces him to kick cold turkey, strange events, mysterious visitors and personal demons commingle to intriguing, ambiguous effect. A fresh conceit told with an unfussy assurance, ”Resolution” marks a solid calling [ Read More ]

While it doesn.t have the charm of the 1985 original, the remake of Fright Night is a CGI-slick horror romp that provides some laughs and even a few scares thanks to a menacing Colin Farrell. Directed by Craig Gillespie with writing chores handled by Marti Noxon (based on the original story written by Tom Holland), the film stars Anton Yelchin, Farrell, Toni Collette, David Tennant, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Dave Franco, Reid Ewing, Will Denton, Sandra Vergara, and Emily Montague. It also features a great cameo by Fright Night's original vampire Chris Sarandon. Moving the setting to Las Vegas, the remake follows the basic plot of the original with awkward high school teenager Charlie Brewster (Yelchin) starting...

Fright Night

Written by Marti Noxon, based on a story by Tom Holland, based on the film Fright Night written by Tom Holland
USA, 2011

The new Fright Night has two fairly large hurdles to clear. First, is the remake necessary? Second, was it necessary to make the film in 3-D?
As to the 3-D, other than the usual inane 3-D horror staple that pointy things will be thrust at the audience, the film does have one and a half genuinely interesting ideas about how to use 3-D. The full-fledged idea is that when vampires explode in sunlight, their ashes go everywhere, including into the audience. The half-idea comes at the beginning of the film when lens-flares of light protrude from the screen like spears, as though the film is reminding us, that against vampires, (sun)light is the ultimate weapon. Unfortunately, the film quickly forgets this idea,...

Here at Dread Central we are very big fans of Chris Sarandon’s portrayal of Jerry Dandridge in Tom Holland’s original Fright Night, and while we wait to see how Colin Farrell delivers with his incarnation of the bloodsucker in Dreamworks’ re-imagining (due out August 19th, 2011 now instead of October 2011), it looks like Sarandon is supportive of passing the torch on to Farrell.
Word just came in from a trusted source close to the production that Sarandon does indeed have a cameo in the new flick, and we couldn’t be happier to hear that. No official word has come from the studio yet, but let’s keep our fingers crossed we get to check out Sarandon in 3D next summer!
In this new telling Colin Farrell has the plum role of the vampire, named Jerry, who on the surface appears to be a cool guy but is really preying on the neighborhood.

Craig Gillespie's 'Fright Night' is starting to sound pretty darn appealing. Initially it just appeared to be an excuse for Dreamworks to exploit the ever-growing vampire-loving audiences out there due to such blood sucking successes as the 'Twilight' movies and multitude of vampire-related TV shows. But with a cast that includes Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Sandra Vergara (below), Imogen Poots ('28 Weeks Later'), Emily Montague and Toni Collette it certainly goes a long way to keep me interested still. That being said a new promo banner featuring David Tennant ('Dr. Who') as Peter Vincent is very intriguing. Check it out below. Tennant, who takes on the role portrayed by Roddy McDowell in the original, has certainly got a different look from his predecessor. The Vincent character this time around is a Vegas entertainer and the new look certianly reflects this. The remake keeps...

A couple of photos have surfaced of a promotional banner of actor David Tennant (best known to fans all over the globe as Dr. Who) portraying his Peter Vincent character in the upcoming Dreamworks remake of Fright Night.
In the original Peter Vincent (portrayed by the iconic Roddy McDowell) was a fallen horror host who reluctantly helps a young Charley Brewster battle his neighbor Jerry Dandridge, who also happens to be a bloodthirsty vampire who torments the teen.
However, if you take a look at the pics below, you can definitely tell that Tennant's version of Peter Vincent is a bit modernized, almost as a Criss Angel-type of entertainer. Since the new imagining of the story is set now in Las Vegas, this seems to be right on track.
So take a look for yourselves, fiends, and let us know what you think below!

Colin Farrell is taking a trip back in time again for his next big studio project, a remake of the 1980s cult hit "Fright Night" in which he plays a vampire named Jerry who appears to be normal on the surface, but . . . The film is being produced by Disney, so clearly hopes are high for a box office success. Toni Collette plays the lead female role, and a bunch of young next big things have also signed on the dotted line, among them Emily Montague and Dave Franco. "Fright Night" is currently shooting in New Mexico and already has a release date of October 7, 2011. Let’s hope Farrell’s newest attempt at recreating 1980s icons turns out better than his last – you’ll remember that he co-starred with Jamie Foxx a few years back in a remake of Miami Vice which landed with a thud at the box office. In other Farrell news,...

Sure, Craig Gillespie and company are in the middle of filming the remake to "Fright Night", but apparently casting's never really done. That's where actress Emily Montague comes in, filling in the role of Jerry Dandrige's (Colin Farrell) human victim. They say she's got more going for her other than being a walking piece of meat, meaning that she's actually got lines to the role unlike in the original. "Fright Night" is based off of the 1985 original from Tom Holland which focused on high schooler Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin) who discovers that his suave next door neighbor Jerry (Farrell) is actually a vampire. The cast includes David Tennant, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Toni Collette. Filming is currently underway in Las Vegas and we should expect this puppy to be out in theaters on October 7th, 2011.For Montague this is a big step, mainly because she's been stuck in television up until this point.

Back in June I said that British actress Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later) was the final piece in what has become the Fright Night reboot casting puzzle. I was wrong. Emily Montague has joined the cast of the Fright Night reboot, currently shooting in New Mexico. According to Heat Vision, 'Montague is playing a fetching victim of the vampire played by Colin Farrell, who moves in next door to a teen being played by Anton Yelchin. The role had no lines in the original movie but has been fleshed out slightly in the redo. A relative newcomer to the Hollywood scene, Montague made a bit of splash in May when she sold a comedy to HBO with Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson as exec producers'.

Any Fright Night news is good news. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports that promising newcomer Emily Montague will play one of neighborhood vampire Colin Farrell’s delectable victims. The 25-year-old blonde, who is currently developing an HBO comedy, joins a cast that includes Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Toni Collette, David Tennant, James Franco’s brother Dave, Sofia Vergara’s sister Sandra, and might-be Spidey squeeze Imogen Poots.

Slightly small casting news regarding the Fright Night remake, now shooting in New Mexico. Emily Montague has been cast to play a victim of Colin Farrell's vampire, Jerry Dandrige. Apparently this was a role with zero lines, but the part was flesh out a bit. Still, I wouldn't expect much. Fright Night is slated to open October 7, 2011. Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Imogen Poots, David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Toni Collette star.

HBO is creating a female-based comedy from the makers of Entourage. Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson are developing the show centered around a group of female friends who are working and looking for love in Los Angeles. Also contributing to the production: producers Leah Rachel and Emily Montague. The show is being described as the "female version of Entourage," but sources close to the production say that this show will "not be as Hollywood-centric." Entourage is now its 7th season.

Can Mark Wahlberg repeat the success of Entourage, but for a female audience? According to The Hollywood Reporter [1], he is currently developing a new comedy series for HBO with producing partner Stephen Levinson that revolves around a group of female friends working and finding romance in L.A. Although the Los Angeles setting will probably play a large part in the lifestyle that is featured, the show is reportedly evolving away from a focus on Hollywood and showbiz. Also, despite the picture above, it will have no actual connection to Entourage or any of its characters (at least, not so far). Wahlberg didn't come up with the initial idea for the series; it is actually the brainchild of young actresses Leah Rachel and Emily Montague (Key Lime Lie). I guess this makes it a little more likely that they will be able to write for a female audience. In a way,...

According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO is close to capping a deal with 'Entourage' executive producers Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson to bring a new show to the premium cable network.
The project, written by newcomer Leah Rachel, who developed the concept with her partner, Emily Montague, focuses on a group of "female friends working and finding romance in Los Angeles."
But while the premise sounds almost exactly like a female version of what's been going down with Vinnie Chase and his, well, entourage for the last seven seasons, the Reporter cites a source who maintains that the script will be less "Hollywood-centric."
