It's December, and you know what that means — the best films of the year see their shadow and climb out of their cave and into the theaters and our homes. That's right, prestige films bombard audiences in December before the new year cutoff and the real beginning of awards season. Netflix is no stranger to the original film, and they have a litany of content waiting for audiences next month. While the majority are not holiday-related despite impending festive celebrations, plenty of titles are worth diving into across all genres. Saban Films / Paramount have released an official trailer for a very generic action thriller titled Crime Story, which is getting a theatrical + VOD release this August for anyone who might want to watch this. The pitch: an old man suffering from cancer seeks revenge on the thieves who have destroyed his life. Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss stars as an infamous ex-mob boss who "must finally face the consequences of his dark past" when his family also gets caught up in his vengeance plot. The full cast includes Mira Sorvino, Cress Williams, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Derek Russo, Haviland Stillwell, and Andrea Frankle. Despite starring two Oscar winners, this is straight-to-the-bargain-bin, derivative "content" that everyone will just forget as soon as they finish watching. Oh well. Hulu is adding a pair of TV vets to its forthcoming Dopesick adaptation, tapping Will Chase (Nashville) and Jaime Ray Newman (Eureka) to join the cast in recurring roles. Additionally, Andrea Frankle (The Purge, Cloak & Dagger) has also signed on to recur in the eight-episode limited series.

Based on Beth Macy’s bestselling book and adapted by Danny Strong (Empire), Dopesick will take “a harrowing look into the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction, from a distressed Virginia mining community to the hallways of the DEA and the opulence of ‘one percenter’ Big Pharma Manhattan,” reads the series’ official description.

We have a brand new trailer for Into the Ashes. In any given year, a number of movies will slip through the cracks for may viewers, simply because there is so much stuff being released on a variety of platforms. It's impossible to keep up, especially during the very crowded summer movie season. This movie runs the risk of succumbing to such a fate, but based on this first trailer, maybe it shouldn't. Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) leads the way in what looks like it very well could be an under the radar action/thriller to keep an eye on.

The trailer kicks off with a lot of ominous and clearly vengeful voiceover that leads to a tense confrontation between two men whose beef will be at the center of this tale. There is some action to behold, but the footage goes a little light on the guns and body count.

Wgn America has renewed its Underground TV series for a second season. The historical thriller drama about the Underground Railroad, created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, airs Wednesday at 10:00pm Et/Pt on Wgn America. Wgn will air a full first season Underground marathon, before the Underground season one finale, Wednesday, May 11, beginning at 1:00pm. Check your local listings.

Paul Soter the writer of Super Troopers (2001) and other lesser known comedies tries his hand at writing and directing a psychological thriller. Yet even if Soter is new to the genre his cast has some horror experience even if none of them are accustomed to starring roles. Johnathon Shaech had supporting roles in both The Culling (2013) and Quarantine (2008). Andrea Frankle played a bit role in The Reaping (2007) and Pell James played a wouldbe victim in Zodiac (2007). All in all writing directing and casting leave something to be desired.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will be unleashing the Paul Soter ('Super Troopers') helmed horror 'Dark Circles' on DVD, Digital Download and VOD this May. The supernatural chiller was originally part of the line-up for After Dark Originals and stars Johnathon Schaech ('ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2') and Pell James ('Zodiac') as a pair of new parents whom through nights of sleep-deprivation due to their whinging kid begin seeing things in their house. Chicago – Rife with corruption and injustice, the setting for “Broken City” could have been picked from a litter of U.S. metropolitans. Said star Mark Wahlberg in a recent red-carpet interview with HollywoodChicago.com, it’s not Chicago.

The Windy City most certainly isn’t “broken,” Wahlberg says, though he did highlight our issues with gang violence and the inner city – adding that he’s vehemently behind Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Little do they know that the ghosts of the Underground Railroad run rampant on the property. The first scene features Lisa, her sister Joyce (Katee Sackhoff) and her daughter Heidi (Emily Alyn Lind) as they make a strange revelation. The trailer for the Paul Soter ('Super Troopers') helmed horror 'Dark Circles' has finally been unveiled. The first film to be released by After Dark Films, as part of their new After Dark Originals 2 series, stars Johnathon Schaech ('ChromeSkull: Laid to Rest 2'), Pell James ('Zodiac'), Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Andrea Frankle, Jennifer Foreman and Michael Patrick Rogers. After Dark Films returns to the screen sometime in 2013 with an all-new slate of After Dark Originals.  One film that is completed is Dark Circles and a trailer made its debut today.

When new parents Alex and Penny retreat from the city and move into a place outside town, the stress and massive sleep-deprivation caused by their infant has both of them seeing things in the house that may or may not exist.  Persistent sightings of a strange woman has each of them wondering if they are suffering from hallucinations, or if their new home holds a dark, supernatural presence.  As their fragile grasp on reality spirals into delirium, Alex and Penny find themselves nearly helpless to deal with the horrific truth of what is really going in this house.

Paul Soter writes and directs; Pell James, Jonathan Schaech, Jennifer Foreman and Andrea Frankle star.  We'll keep you posted on on a release date.

Dark Circles is a psychological thriller being developed by After Dark Films. This title deals with a newlywed couple who move into a 19th Century farmhouse. A presence waits for them there. Dark Circles – no sleep! In other words: in this house no one sleeps! Just saw the first trailer for the upcoming horror movie which comes from director Paul Soter, and I don’t know what to say… it looks pretty cool to me. Basically, we’re dealing with some hallucinations, supernatural things, insomnia and stuff like that, so yeah – not bad at all, check it out in the rest of this report!
