As far back as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be involved with movies. Growing up and constantly watching and re-watching as many as you could will probably have that effect on someone. When I got my hands on my first video camera and we had a school project to do requiring us to make a suspenseful short, it was go time! Some award winning movies and absolute failures later and I’m starting working at a video store reading and watching every movie in the place, eventually creating CityofFilms.com and later attending film school.
I never looked at it as a way to make money or get famous, I just loved the movies. Writing about them, sharing news and talking with like-minded people about what was happening behind and in-front of the camera. Film school came and went as did a pile of scripts I don’t know how to finish.

Welcome to a new era for Cof.
Almost a year ago Graham and I began discussing the fact that we were fast approaching the 10th anniversary of the day he created Cof. After spending a bit of time reminiscing on what it took to get us to this point, we quickly turned towards where we want to be in the future. As unveiled last week on the 10th birthday celebration, we have started with a brand new logo. That was followed up this past weekend with relaunching a brand new design to the website (along with taking the Ice Bucket Challenge.. check it out below). Over the last several months we have disucssed what we wanted our vision to be and how best to get there. While I am sure we will be making tweaks over the next several weeks (and we welcome feedback) we feel very confident that we...

Cof became a registered website on Saturday August 14th 2004. Ten years is a long time considering how fast websites come and go on the Internet. I created Cof out of my true passion for movies. I wasn’t trying to create a business or make money. I wasn’t looking for fame; I just enjoyed watching movies and wanted an outlet to share some thoughts and provide some news I thought was worth mentioning. Looking back over the last 10 years, I would say we have accomplished that. We’re not the only game in town, but I don’t think you will find another Cof out there.

It was almost a year ago when our own Kevin Fraser was putting together his wish list of re-cast members of the The Magnificent Seven (see here). Now things are moving on the remake with director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) and Denzel Washington.
Fuqua received an offer to direct the remake of the 1960 western which in turn was a remake of Akira Kurosawa classic Seven Samurai. It looks more and more likely that he will take the job that might create a third team-up with Washington. Washington is being rumored to play the lead role and today Variety confirmed that Fuqua and Washington are in talks for the movie.
The original movie starred Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen and revolved around seven gunslingers that protect an oppressed Mexican village from a group of outlaws. The script was reworked by John Lee Hancock with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto writing the previous version.

Due to personal reasons I was unable to produce Kevin Fraser’s Poster Friday last week. I know you’re all broken up about it. To make it up to you I thought we’d try something a little different this week…Posters! TV Posters that is. That’s right, TV shows have posters too and in recent years they’ve been just as creative as their big screen brothers.
So click onwards to see some rather neat posters from some of my favourite televised programs!
We’ll start off with one of the best comedies of recent times, Louie. This poster by Frank Ockenfels feels like the show in a nutshell and you haven’t watched it…you should.
I’ve always loved this poster for Mad Men, also by Frank Ockenfels, especially because they actually did flood the set as opposed to employing some tricky photoshoppery. Check out...

Our artist.
Well I hope you all had a fantastic weekend, and if you’re here with us on this Monday of March, we thank you. It’s going to be a fun filled week here in the City of Films – and when have I ever said that?
To kick things off, we have a brand new City Strip; it’s almost like we do that every Monday. One of my favorite characters returns (last seen in #119) with a topical kind spirited jest, laugh along with us will you. Oh and that crude depiction of Kevin Fraser you see there may or may not be my jab at him for last week’s comic. I’m the bigger man (pun intended).
Check out The City Strip #135 – With Love For As.

Earlier this year our very own Kevin Fraser stepped away from the drawing board that is The City Strip and took on another task, video reviews. He’s completed six reviews, all watchable and entertaining – I promise. If you haven’t seen them, what better time than now when we’re all incredibly lazy to post new and relevant news? Happy holidays!
In Kevin’s own words: It was mentioned a few episodes ago on The City of Films Show and now it’s finally here. At long last it’s…The Review. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, so I finally just decided to go for it. I’ll be reviewing movies, TV shows, shorts, pretty much anything I want. I’ve been having a blast doing these so far and its also given me an excuse to start editing again, which is something I love doing.

“Welcome to The City Strip. Here you will find a selection of illustrated laughing squares that spotlight ignorance, irony, sarcasm and…movies, sure what the hell.” - April 5, 2010
On April 5, 2010 CityofFilms.com changed forever. We posted our first comic by Kevin Fraser and now two years later, we celebrate one hundred comics. It seems like just yesterday I was asking him to make a comic with us telling him “stick with me Kevin, I’ll have you farting through silk”. I thank Kevin each week when he sends me the latest comic, but I get the feeling he is much too humble to give it much thought. He’s a great friend and colleague and it is with great pride we get to work with him, he’s doing great things here and we can’t wait to see what his future brings.

The City Strip #98 is something of a classic already. I don’t know how we will top it for #100 in a couple of weeks. I love the look and feeling of it; it takes me back to when I was just a young boy reading Bazooka Joe and hoping one day my friends and I would make a comic, mission accomplished. Here is the latest City Strip by Kevin Fraser.

A reader sent us this new trailer for Wrath of the Titans, although the email said their name is Bridget, I’m pretty sure it’s from our very own City Strip artist Kevin Fraser; he’s got a soft spot for these type of movies and knows by asking he risks ridicule. Here you are Kevin, that brand new trailer.
Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on March 30, Wrath takes place a decade after the events of Clash of the Titans. These movies may not be on my radar that often, but this trailer does a good job at showcasing its action and adventure. I’m nearly sold; if the next trailer has more Neeson and Fiennes, count me in.
Read the synopsis and watch the trailer below:

Let’s put it all on the table shall we? Kevin Fraser, our comic artist has taken a leave of absence from the City Strip for the rest of the year. Ok fair enough, he works hard (so I’m told). Yet it quickly came to our attention this past weekend that Monday’s still exist with or without the City Strip…messed up right?
So we went into panic mode; Ryan and I quickly starting calling, emailing, skyping…everything short sending a flare signal to get Kevin to come back. Nothing. He’s gone, and not returning until January 2012.
Well guess what? You think we don’t got this? We so got this. Ladies and gentlemen…Ryan has put his talents to the test and created a brand new City Strip! Check it out here…and if for some reason you have feelings of deja vu when reading it…...

The wait for Hobo with a Shotgun to come home has been a long one. Well, not really, but we're just so damned excited. Any movie with a ridiculous amount of depravity caused by Rutger Hauer is a Must See!
To keep our appetite for destruction going, director Jason Eisener has uploaded a teaser trailer for Hobo With a Shotgun: More Blood, More Heart, an upcoming making of documentary from Kevin Fraser.
Dig on it below. Hobo With a Shotgun (review here) debuts on VOD on April 1st and will be hitting limited theaters on May 6th courtesy of Magnet Releasing.
For all things Hobo related, you can check out the official Hobo With a Shotgun website here.
Synopsis
A train pulls into its final station, and a Hobo hops from a freight car. He has dreams of a fresh life in a new city but finds himself trapped in an urban hell instead.

Hobo With A Shotgun director Jason Eisener has uploaded a teaser trailer for Hobo With a Shotgun: More Blood, More Heart, an upcoming making of documentary from Kevin Fraser. There's no other info so we're unclear if this is feature-length or something fun that will be included on the forthcoming home video release. Already in Canadian theaters, Hobo will be available April 1 on VOD, iTunes, Xbox Marketplace, PlayStation Network and Amazon.com, and in select theaters May 6, from Magnet Releasing. A train pulls into its final station and a Hobo hops from a freight car. He has dreams of a fresh life in a new city, but finds himself trapped in an urban hell instead. A city where criminals rule the streets, landlords evict single mothers in the middle of the night, and where the city's crime boss, The Drake, reigns supreme with his sadistic, homeless-killing sons, Slick & Ivan.

Hobo With a Shotgun is almost in our grimy, bloody, fingers. It seems that not only us here at Destroy The Brain! are excited for this non-stop blood-fest, as the folks of Rue-Morgue have selected the film to be featured on the cover of their new issue (out April 1st) as well. Everyone has the Hobo bug! You are going to see people in hobo rags for Halloween this year, I promise you. Hobo will be hitting theaters in Canada this Friday, March 25th (you, hosers!) and will be making it state-side on VOD April 1st and in theaters May 6th. To get a behind the scenes peak of Jason Eisener’s grindhouse inspired film, watch this preview of Kevin Fraser’s making-of documentary More Blood More Heart.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jason Eisener, the director of Hobo With A Shotgun, as well as producer Rob Cotterill and writer John Davies. They were really cool guys and I should have the interview up soon, part of which will be featured in our radio show and the second half in an upcoming episode of our video-cast. The movie matched my expectations: inventive, assured and absurdly entertaining (read my review here).
In the meantime why not check the teaser for More Blood More Heart by Kevin Fraser, who has been documenting the making of the film over the past year.

I literally have five minutes before I head out the door but I have to drop a note that Kevin Fraser has been documenting the making of Jason Eisener's Hobo With A Shotgun and they're calling it More Blood More Heart. A teaser for it dropped today like the bucket of a excavator. Check it out after the break!...
