Netflix has canceled another series without a conclusive ending.

Deadline reports that the streaming service has canceled The Baby-Sitters Club after two seasons.

Rachel Shukert responded to the news with a statement.

"I have wanted to be a part of the world Ann M. Martin created since I was 7 years old, and for two amazing seasons I actually got to be," Shukert said, according to Deadline. 

"It was a dream come true."

"Although I am heartbroken not to be returning to Stoneybrook for 20 more seasons, I am so proud of the incredible show our amazing cast and crew created and the way it brought joy and comfort to so many when they needed it most," the statement continues.

Based on the best-selling book series by Ann M. Mark Hamill and Lupita Nyong’o were among the winners on Saturday night as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the winners of the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in the children’s and animation categories. The show represented the second of three Daytime Emmy ceremonies this year; the third will be live streamed on Sunday.

Nyong’o won the limited performance in a children’s program Emmy for playing the Storyteller, in Netflix’s “Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices. Hammil was named outstanding performer in a preschool animated program for Disney Channel’s “Elena of Avalor.”

Actors Lupita Nyong’o and Mark Hamill were among the winners in the Daytime Emmys’ Children’s and Animation categories, announced Saturday.

Nyong’o won out in the category of Outstanding Limited Performance In a Children’s Program, with her turn as “The Storyteller” in Netflix’s Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices.

Hamill, meanwhile, dominated the category of Outstanding Performer in a Preschool Animated Program. He was recognized for his performance as Vuli in Disney Channel series Elena of Avalor.

The latest Emmys telecast was hosted by singer, songwriter, director and Daytime Emmy Award-nominated actress Raven-Symoné. Additional presenters included Millie Davis (PBS’s Odd Squad), and Tom Kenny (Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants), with awards given out in 30 categories.

The first batch of 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in 41 categories, on June 25. An additional award show focused on Lifestyle Programming, will be presented on Sunday.

The family friendly adaptation comes from Walden Media. Michael De Luca will executive produce alongside Lucy Kitada and Walden Media’s Frank Smith, Naia Cucukov and Ben Forrer. Rachel Shukert serves as showrunner and executive produces with Lucia Aniello and Lucy Kitada.

Netflix is putting the pedal to the metal and has tapped the first two stars of its Baby-Sitters Club reboot. Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein have signed on to join the series as Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer and Watson Brewer, the mother and stepfather of Bsc founder Kristy Thomas, respectively. It's pretty fitting that Silverstone is joining the production, since she has a history of starring in pop culture classics.

Based on Ann M. Martin's bestselling book series, the 10-episode, live-action series was picked up by Netflix back in February and will follow the babysitting adventures of five friends (and the others who join throughout the series) who decide to start a business in their sleepy town of Stoneybrook, Ct. The Baby-Sitters Club live-action adaptation will consist of 10 episodes, and has already begun production.

Alicia Silverstone and Mark Feuerstein have joined the cast of Netflix's The Baby-Sitters Club adaptation, which has already begun filming in Vancouver. Silverstone will play Kristy's mother, Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, while Feuerstrin will play her love interest, Watson Brewer.

This is more parental focus than I ever remember from The Baby-Sitters Club books (though Elizabeth and Watson are totally characters), which tended to focus pretty exclusively on the five best friends in the eponymous Baby-Sitters Club: Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill, and Dawn Schafer. In the books, the girls all live in Stoneybrook, Connecticut, and decide to start a club to make some money. The books are about their babysitting adventures, as well as their friendships and lives outside of their afterschool jobs.

The books were previously adapted for TV in 1990 for a one season run on HBO, and Netflix says the new show will be a contemporary take on the original books.

“The Baby-Sitters Club” centers around four characters, Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill and Dawn Schafer, who will all return to the small-town setting of Stoneybrook, Connecticut for the Netflix adaptation. Martin’s series, first published in 1986, has over 200 books licensed in over 20 territories with more than 180 million copies sold to date.

Silverstone will play Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, the mother of Kristy Thomas and love interest of Watson Brewer, played by Feuerstein. The duo are the first two cast members announced for what is described as”a contemporary live action” adaptation of the beloved book series by Ann M. Martin.

“Glow” alum Rachel Shukert is set to serve as showrunner, with Lucia Aniello attached to direct the single-camera comedy. No premiere date has been announced, though production is currently underway in Vancouver.

Tomorrow's a big day in Baby-Sitters Club history — not as big as the day Kristy Thomas had her great idea, but a big day nonetheless. In honor of the series being released on e-book on December 1st, we thought we'd take a look at the 1995 movie adaptation of the series to see if the adventures of some twelve and thirteen-year-old baby sitters are still entertaining in the 21st century. Sure plenty of us loved the Bsc when we were pre-teens, but is a trip back to Stoneybrook actually worthwhile for fans who are all grown up and are now far more likely to hire a baby sitter than to work as one?
