Marvel’s First Family is set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer, and if new reports prove to be accurate, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a rumored runtime that could be more epic than many recent MCU movies. According to a new listing on UK theater chain Odeon’s website, the arrival of The Fantastic Four will be a record-breaker for the superhero team, and be the longest Marvel movie since 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.
Runtimes are often published several months before a film hits the big screen, but can change over time as placeholders are replaced by actual confirmed movie lengths. If the Odeon’s listing is correct, then Fantastic Four: First Steps will be 140 minutes long, making it the 10th longest MCU movie behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, which came in at 141 minutes.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps may show an extended look at Marvel's first family if a new update is to be believed. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe tentpole seemingly reveals its runtime, with its screening potentially setting a two-year-old MCU record.
According to an official listing by the UK-based Odeon Cinemas (via GamesRadar+), First Steps will run for 2 hours and 20 minutes. If Odeon's runtime is accurate, First Steps would be the longest MCU film since 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes. It should be noted that the MCU film that preludes First Steps, Thunderbolts*, has yet to reveal its runtime, giving The Fantastic Four remake the two-year-old record for now.

Natasha Lyonne might have revealed her mystery character in Marvel's upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Lyonne joined the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in May 2024, yet her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was not confirmed. In December 2024, Lyonne voiced the original MCU character Byrdie in What If...? Season 3. The adult daughter of a variant Howard the Duck and Darcy Lewis, Byrdie's status as a multiverse hero and a Watcher seemingly made her a potential candidate for who Lyonne would be playing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But would Marvel introduce one of the stars of an upcoming blockbuster with a role in an animated anthology series? Many questions remain about who exactly Lyonne is playing in the upcoming MCU reboot remain up in the air.

Acclaimed actor John Malkovich is set for his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, having previously rejected superhero films multiple times. Though Malkovich admits he didn't know a lot about the eponymous group before joining the film, he had a "fun" time making the movie and isn't ruling out future MCU appearances.
In an interview with Variety, Malkovich shared that he likely read about The Fantastic Four as a child, but doesn't remember much about them. He also knew about the previous big-screen adaptations of The Fantastic Four when he accepted his First Steps role. “I’m sure I read it when I was a kid because I did read comics when I was a kid, but that was a long, long time ago,” Malkovich said. “All I really knew about it was that there had been a film or two of it before.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps sees acclaimed actor John Malkovich step foot into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, potentially as a foe of Marvel's first family. After rejecting superhero films for years, Malkovich reveals why the upcoming reboot changed his mind.
During an interview with GQ, Malkovich addressed why he opted against making comic book films after being linked to potential roles for years. Malkovich insisted turning down past opportunities with Marvel was not an "artistic" choice. However, he explained that underwhelming pay and the "grueling" production process caused him to shy away from making comic book movies.

John Malkovich has revealed why he decided to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it's a very relatable reason. Malkovich joins Harrison Ford, Robert Redford, and Glenn Close in the pantheon of actors who surprise fans by deciding to make a Marvel movie. One of the most critically acclaimed and recognizable actors in the world, Malkovich is a name high on many casting lists but has never joined a superhero franchise until now.
While speaking with GQ Magazine, Malkovich revealed that his reason for not making a Marvel movie in the past had nothing to do with artistic merit, but more with practicality: the pay deals were not worth it. The Fantastic Four: First Steps hopes to help the franchise climb to new heights after previous installments featuring Marvel's first family yielded mixed results at best. One star of the last Fantastic Four film hopes First Steps won't be a "bomb" like his widely derided 2015 effort.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter (via X), FANT4STIC star Miles Teller shared his thoughts on First Steps and what he expects to see from the superhero blockbuster. Teller, who portrayed Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in the Josh Trank-helmed 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, has nothing but good things to say about First Steps after watching its recent teaser trailer and hopes it has much more success than his movie. “I don’t wish anybody to be a part of a bomb … I just wish them the best," Teller said. "I saw the little trailer and I thought it looked fantastic, I’m very excited for them.

The battle of the superhero movies returns this year, and there is already front runner in the DC vs Marvel box office war that will dominate theaters this July. After both franchises mostly dipped out of 2024, Marvel Studios and DC Studios are hoping to reinvent and rejuvenate their respective IPs this year. Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will land in cinemas within weeks of each other, and the first trailers for both movies have suggested that one of them could have the edge when it comes to box office supremacy.

Marvel's first family began proving their legacy this week with the launch of the first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. A first look at the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe release was a must-see for fans, and it appears they showed up in droves to check out the teaser because it's generated some of the best viewing numbers for an MCU trailer launch in recent memory.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Fantastic Four: First Steps teaser trailer scored 202 million views in its first 24 hours across all platforms. Those are the highest numbers an MCU trailer debut has seen in years, only second to 365 million views for the first Deadpool & Wolverine trailer in 2024. The big difference here is that the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer had an extra boost by debuting during Super Bowl Lviii, while The Fantastic Four achieved its viewership without the big game.

Although this is hardly the first time Marvel's First Family has been adapted into a feature film, the characters are now making their debut in the MCU. Planned to have a bigger role in the upcoming two Avengers films, The Fantastic Four: First Steps' launch has been successful. Marvel Studios unveiled the first trailer on Feb. 4, almost a year after the cast announcement, and The Hollywood Reporter revealed the trailer was a massive success, with 202 million views in its first 24 hours across all platforms.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is just months away from hitting the big screen and Marvel fans are already super excited about the film. The film will feature Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing.
Fans also learned that Galactus will be the main antagonist for the Marvel family in this film. The cosmic villain was earlier introduced in Fox’s Fantastic Four film and was criticized for being portrayed as a ‘cloud’. While fans have little idea about the magnitude of the villain, Ralph Ineson is confirmed to play the role in the film.

The first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps marks a major turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it features the arrival of Marvel's first family into the MCU. While Captain America and Namor predate the Fantastic Four comics, their creation in 1961 gave birth to the Marvel Universe and built the foundation to spawn beloved characters like Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, and many more. Fans have been waiting for them to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it began in 2008 with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.
However, this is far from the Fantastic Four's first time on the big screen. This is the fourth cinematic incarnation of the famous heroes. There was the never-intended-to-be-released low-budget B-movie from 1994, the two moderately successful but critically dismissed movies in the 2000s, and the infamous 2015 flop.

The McU's first family will consist of Quinn, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/ Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/ The Invisible Woman, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/ The Thing. The excitement for the new reboot is high, especially as it had been long in the making and the previous three attempts at adapting the comments weren't so successful. Marvel Studios The Fantastic Four: First Steps has received a new key-art, featuring a map of the films version of New York City. Production on the highly-anticipated superhero reboot is expected to begin at the end of July in London.
The Fantastic Four key art was given out to fans who attended the recent 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. It provided fans a glimpse of what a retro-futuristic New York City will look like during the 1960s, which will be the setting of the upcoming movie. The key art map also gave fans an idea of the unique design of the titular teams famous Baxter Building, which features a launch pad called Excelsior. This seems to be a tribute to the late Stan Lee, who was responsible for the creation of The Fantastic Four alongside Jack Kirby. In the comics, the first five floors of the Baxter Building served as the teams headquarters.

Five years after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios Chief Kevin Feige finally introduced MCU version of The Fantastic Four on the Hall H stage Saturday night at Comic-Con.
Feige kicked the segment off by fibbing that the cast couldn’t make it because filming is set to begin next week in the U.K., but revealed “our director was willing to fly all through the night,” introducing Matt Shakman to the stage.
Shakman acknowledged that there’s no actual footage from the film, but said he’d put together a pre-vis clip to get the tone of the film across — though if that’s pre-vis it’s really polished. Because it resembled something close to a short film that might end up (we hope) on the blu-ray, made up of fictional newsreel footage clearly set in the 1960s — of course it might also just look like the 60s (more on that momentarily.

Marvel Studios is not intending to play around after the sub-optimal run that the brand has been dealing with lately. Not only is the studio proudly touting around its just released Deadpool & Wolverine with a surprise Sdcc screening along with cameo guests but upon the company’s return to Hall H, some Fantastic Four teasing would be in the cards for the fans. Pedro Pascal had recently released a wholesome group photo of Marvel’s first family as the cast members for Matt Shakman’s upcoming The Fantastic Four had recently gotten together.
Now, Deadline reveals that our world has gotten a little preview of what it’s like when the grand-scale villain of The Fantastic Four looms over the San Diego sky. Marvel would give fans a display of an illuminated drone show, which came together to form the shape of Galactus, the planet-eating threat of the Fantastic Four comics.

Comic book movie fans have more or less assumed that Marvel’s upcoming “The Fantastic Four” will be a 1960s-set superhero story thanks to the illustrated posters the studio has put out on social media. Now that fact is being confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Speaking on “The Official Marvel Podcast” (via EW), Feige revealed “The Fantastic Four” will be a period piece set in New York City. However, it’s probably not the New York City many are familiar with.
“There was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol and there was a cityscape in the corner of that image,” Feige said. “There were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know, or the New York that existed in the ‘60s in our world. The actor from iZombie and The Fall of the House of Usher recently revealed he was being considered for the role of Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards.
“Yeah, I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but I didn’t get it, is the important thing. But on good days, I see the Constantine,” Kohli said in an interview with Salaam Nerds. “It will flare up once and again. And, I love all of them. On good days, you’re like, ‘Man, I’m wanted!’ People really want to see. You’re the guy that people will shout out for anything.”
He continued, “On bad days, ‘It’s a reminder that you’re not the guy. You’re not there. These are the roles you’ll never get.
