Fans are addicted to the fast-paced series filled with a lovable and dynamic cast facing high-stakes drama. And if viewers are finding it harder and harder to wait for the next week’s episode in the period of binge-able content, fans can look to get their fix with another highly emotional, edge-of-your-seat crime drama that is now available for streaming: Flashpoint.
Flashpoint is a Canadian police procedural starring Amy Jo Johnson (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), David Paetkau (Final Destination 2), Jessica Steen (Heartland), and Enrico Colantoni (Just Shoot Me). Despite the proliferation of news stories about bathroom bills and pushes to use gender-inclusive pronouns in classrooms and workplaces, stories about gender expression and identity are still ones that Hollywood can struggle to get right.
It was only last year that Showtime’s “Billions” cast non-binary actor Asia Kate Dillon to play the first non-binary role on an American series, and the transgender community has had a mixed reaction to cis-gender male actor Jeffrey Tambor’s award-winning turn as a transitioning woman on Amazon’s “Transparent” the past four seasons. This season saw “Looking” alum Tanya Saracho’s new Starz family drama, “Vida.” Among its many queer-positive stances is the casting of non-binary talent Ser Anzoategui as Eddy, a woman mourning the loss of her wife while also struggling to have a relationship with her detached stepdaughters. While Anzoategui uses they/them pronouns, their character (at least in season one) is a cis-gender woman.

Seemingly unable to die, Jack (Henry Rollins) spends his immortal days playing bingo and consuming human blood. But Jack's routine is interrupted when his daughter is kidnapped, as teased in the official red band trailer for He Never Died. Jack’s in a rut. Depression and severe anti-social behavior has whittled down his existence to sleeping, playing bingo, and eating the same meal at the same time every day at the same diner. Many times, the ‘less is more’ approach to storytelling can really enhance a film and such is the case with Jason Krawczyk’s He Never Died- a minimalist look at the life of a cannibal who also has been bestowed with the gift of eternal life. Without bogging viewers down with too much exposition, Krawczyk allows his star Henry Rollins to do what he does best as an actor and give us a dryly comedic but equally compelling examination of how someone who has experienced such an extraordinary existence could ultimately tire of their own existence after a few millennia. The results are a powerfully simple and nuanced exploration of what it means to be human, all served up with a fun neo-noir, blood-soaked twist.

Jack (Henry Rollins) is something of a loner. He eats at the same diner every day, he plays Bingo at the same church every week and he meets the same immoral hospital intern every few days to buy… something. He has little need for anyone else but that begins to change when two women come into his life. Cara (Kate Greenhouse) is a waitress at the diner, and while Jack is a man of few words he’s still managed to hit it off with her to some small degree. Andrea’s (Jordan Todosey) face is brand new to him, but an angry phone call from an old fling he hasn’t heard from in roughly nineteen years informs him that the girl at his door is his daughter. His life suddenly grows busier and far more complicated, and the trend continues when he finds himself targeted by a series of low-level henchmen for reasons unknown. It...

There will always be movies that provide all the necessary answers, but there will also be others that revel in the muddied concept of ambiguity. Despite a culture of spoonfeeding and obvious storytelling, He Never Died dares to be a shapeless tale that could be interpreted many ways – a “Choose Your Own Adventure” of sorts. All we know is what’s given in the title, and that’s the only information writer/director Jason Krawczyk cares to offer for a majority of his drifter’s curious predicament. You’ve got your rugged loner main character, his couldn’t-care-less attitude, and the reality that he just can’t seem to die. Why can’t he die? In the words of Krawczyk’s hero (anti-hero), *shrugs, walks away.*
Henry Rollins plays a simple man named Jack, who expresses little interest in the thugs that show up at his door looking for a fight.

Warning: Stop reading if you haven’t seen the Aug. 15 episode of ‘Degrassi!’
When Adam (Jordan Todosey) crashed into a tree in the final moments of Degrassi‘s Aug. 8 episode, I’m sure we all had similar thoughts, ranging from “He’ll be fine” to “Maybe he’ll have a broken leg.” But no one could have predicted just how serious this accident would be — nor the weight of the message it would carry.
On the Aug. 15 episode, we learned that Adam, in fact, died from his head-on collision with the tree.
The following is a statement released by Linda Schuyler, Degrassi‘s executive producer and co-creator, discussing Adam’s legacy:
Adam Torres has been one of the most important characters we have ever featured, and Jordan Todosey brought him to life brilliantly. This year, the creative team was presented with the challenge of telling a realistic story about the...
