After a six month search, “Wheel of Fortune” has found a new executive producer in Bellamie Blackstone, who takes the helm of the show as it heads into its 40th anniversary season.
Blackstone’s appointment also closes the book on the Mike Richards era of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”
A former executive producer of “The Price is Right,” Richards joined both Sony Pictures Entertainment game shows as executive producer in 2020. Last year, he was given the additional job as host of “Jeopardy.” But he parted ways entirely with Sony in August 2021 — only one week into the hosting gig — after reports surfaced about old podcasts in which he made sophomoric and disparaging remarks about Jews and women. Richards was replaced in the short term on “Jeopardy” by alternating hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings.

Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will host the remaining episodes of “Jeopardy” for the rest of the year, Variety has confirmed. However, the search for a final, permanent host is still ongoing.
The news comes after the short-lived hosting tenure of former “Jeopardy” executive producer Mike Richards, who was named host, then stepped down nine days later after insensitive statements he made on a past podcast resurfaced, along with two previous discrimination lawsuits from his time on “The Price Is Right.” Eleven days later, Richards was fired from the show, and the few episodes he filmed during that brief timespan began airing this week.
Alongside the initial announcement that Richards would be “Jeopardy” host, Bialik was also named as the host of the show’s primetime specials and spinoff series. She was later recruited once again to fill in as the daytime “Jeopardy” host after Richards exited. Michael Davies, executive...

The search for a successor to late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek has been a rocky one, culminating August 20 in executive producer Mike Richards’ resignation from the post. An executive producer on the series, Richards stepped down as host after numerous past scandals resurfaced including a harassment lawsuit and derogatory remarks he made on the podcast “The Randumb Show.” According to a new report out of The New York Times (via Uproxx), an awkward encounter on the set between Richards and “Jeopardy!” Mvp Ken Jennings, who hosted the series in early 2021, checkered Richards’ final moments on the production.
The taping for Season 38 took place on Thursday, kicking off with a ceremony prior to honor Trebek and featuring Jennings and fellow former contestant Buzzy Cohen. Per the Times:

A question about a famous comedian on Wednesday’s episode of “Jeopardy!” had Twitter up in arms after all three contestants failed to identify him.
None of the three contestants could recognize a photo of Dave Chappelle, the funny man behind the iconic “Chappelle Show,” several Netflix stand-up specials including 2019’s “Sticks & Stones,” and in pre-pandemic years, a series of live shows where he teamed up with musician John Mayer to blend music and comedy called “Controlled Danger.”
In addition to a photo of the star, they were even given the following clue: “This comedian displayed his drama chops in ‘A Star Is Born,’ playing Bradley Cooper’s longtime friend.”
It seems that the contestants — Brian Chang, an attorney from Chicago, Alex Cohn, a psychiatry resident physician from Los Angeles, and Erica Holenick, a provider data specialist from Portland, Oregon — have never seen “A Star Is Born” either, because none...

ABC’s “Mixed-ish” Season 2 premiere finished second in its time slot on Tuesday, though the “Black-ish” faced no competition from NBC. So, yeah, it was mixed-ish results. Without a new episode of “This Is Us” again due to production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, NBC settled for sixth place in ratings, finishing behind both Univision and Telemundo among adults 18-49. ABC also premiered a new season of “To Tell the Truth” last night, when Telemundo returned a trio of shows. ABC settled for second place behind CBS’ procedural lineup. Ken Jennings’ stint guest-hosting “Jeopardy!” drew a 6.2 rating in Week 1, down about 5% from the same week last year. It topped all of syndication in ratings, according to Nielsen. The former champion was the first to host episodes of the Sony TV quiz show following the passing of Alex Trebek.
The Jennings week averaged 10.3 million total viewers, according to Nielsen, making it the second-most-watched (outside of Trebek’s final five episodes) week of the current season. Ken Jennings’ first evening behind the podium drew 11.3 million total viewers.
The comparable week in early 2020, episodes that were obviously hosted by Trebek, drew a 6.5 average rating.
For the previous week, Trebek’s final one, “Jeopardy!” averaged a 6.6 rating and 11.1 million viewers. That means Jennings’ run of five shows ticked down 6% in ratings week to week — both of those are relatively minor declines in the current TV landscape.
Coming in second place for the week ending Jan.

Alex Trebek went out on top, just like he deserved. Trebek’s final week of “Jeopardy!” episodes finished No. 1 in all of syndication, with TV ratings up 29% from the prior week.
For the session ending Jan. 10, “Jeopardy’s” 6.6 rating bested second-place “Wheel of Fortune’s” 6.0. The “Wheel” number is up 18% from the prior week to its own season high. Primetime game show “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” premiered on ABC on Jan. 7, which surely helped.
Trebek’s final “Jeopardy!” week actually declined from the comparable week in early 2020, when the show averaged a 7.1 rating. Back then, there was added interest in the format due to ABC airing primetime tournament “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time.”
There also wasn’t the coronavirus — at least not here in the States — dampening seemingly everything.

“Jeopardy!” has announced four new guest hosts: Katie Couric, Aaron Rodgers, Bill Whitaker and Mayim Bialik.

To mark each guest host’s appearance, a donation will be made to a charity of their choice equal to the cumulative winnings of that week’s contestants.

Question: Who is Aaron Rodgers? Answer: Upcoming Jeopardy! guest host.
The Green Bay Packers quarterback said during an interview on SiriusXM radio today that he will guest host an upcoming episode of the popular game show.
“One of my idols growing up was Alex Trebek,” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show at SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio, “and being able to be on Jeopardy! years ago, even though my outfit wasn’t the greatest choice … they’re doing some guest hosting spots, and it’s going to be released here pretty soon, but I have the opportunity to be one of those.”
Rodgers competed in — and won — a celebrity edition of Jeopardy! in 2015 and apparently still regrets his gray cardigan look.

Jennings, who was crowned the Greatest of All Time, assured fans at the beginning of his first episode that Trebek is irreplaceable.
“Sharing this stage with Alex Trebek was one of the greatest honors of my life,” Jennings said.
“Not many things in life are perfect, but Alex did this job pretty much perfectly for more than 36 years, and it was even better up close. We were dazzled by his intelligence, charm, and grace.
“Like all Jeopardy! fans, I miss Alex very much,” he continued.
“And I thank him for everything he did for all of us. Let’s be totally clear: No one will ever replace the great Alex Trebek. But we can honor him by playing the game he loved.”

Ken Jennings kicked off his first episode as the guest host of “Jeopardy!” on Monday night by honoring the game show’s late host, Alex Trebek.
Jennings delivered a short but impassioned speech about Trebek’s significance to him and “Jeopardy!” fans, and even got a little teary-eyed.
“You know, sharing this stage with Alex Trebek was one of the greatest honors of my life. Not many things in life are perfect, but Alex did this job pretty much perfectly for more than 36 years, and it was even better up close,” Jennings said. “We were dazzled by his intelligence, his charm, his grace – really, there’s no other word for it.”
As the first guest host since Trebek’s death, Jennings acknowledged that no one can do the job better than Trebek, but suggested that continuing to play the game is a way to honor him.

Next week, Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings returns to the show, this time as the first guest host following Alex Trebek's death. But will his gig become permanent? It's complicated. Days after the iconic star died of pancreatic cancer in November, producers announced that the game show will resume taping with a series of interim guest hosts, beginning with Jennings, who won 74 Jeopardy! consecutive games in 2004, receiving the title of the show's "Greatest of All Time" in 2020. Just before Trebek's final episode aired on Friday, Jan. 8, E! News learned that Jennings has taped six weeks worth of shows, which will start airing on Monday, Jan. 11, and that...

Friday’s episode of “Jeopardy!” concluded with a touching tribute to Alex Trebek, the late host of the long-running television game show.
The roughly 90-second tribute shows Trebek, who died from pancreatic cancer in November 2020, warmly joking and interacting with “Jeopardy!” guests throughout his 37-season tenure as host of the show. The tribute was set to Peter Allen and Dean Pitchford’s “Once Before I Go,” and you can watch it below.
The January 8 episode of “Jeopardy!,” which was the last episode hosted by Trebek, was a normal taping and wrapped with Trebek saying “See you next time” before credits rolled. Trebek and producers did not know the episode would be his final show, according to Deadline.
The segment concluded with a message that read: “Dedicated to Alex Trebek: Forever in our hearts / Always our inspiration.” Trebek hosted over 8,200 episodes of “Jeopardy!” throughout his career. The television host won a...

Trebek — who taped his last episode in late October, just 10 days before his death — ended the show with his traditional send-off, which indicates he did not know it would be his farewell. “Thank you ladies and gentlemen for spending the time with us,” he said. “We’ll see you again next week.”
Friday’s episode, which was originally scheduled to air on Christmas Day, also included a retrospective of Trebek’s 37 years as host.

Alex Trebek’s final episode of “Jeopardy!”, which airs this evening, will conclude with a moving tribute to the legendary game-show host, who died on Nov. 8.
The minute-and-a-half-long package includes clips from his earliest days on the “Jeopardy!” stage 37 years ago through the mustache-less modern era, showing Trebek at his most charming and playful — dressed up as Kiss’ Gene Simmons and the Statue of Liberty, and good-naturedly conversing with contestants.
The tribute ends with a dedication to Trebek, “Forever in our Hearts, Always our Inspiration.”
Watch the whole video below:
Trebek’s final episodes this week began with him calling on viewers to “build a kinder, gentler society.” And as Variety TV critic Daniel D’Addario put it, “the public mourning of Trebek wasn’t solely about missing a familiar presence, or honoring a person suffering with dignity and stoicism in the public eye. Alex Trebek’s final week of episodes as host of “Jeopardy!” — which conclude with the episode airing January 8 — have been striking in part for how much Trebek is committed to performing the show’s business as usual.
There have been asides, through the week of shows that were the last he taped before his death on November 8, 2020, that indicate Trebek was thinking along more cosmic lines as he taped these episodes. When the week began, he opened the show by urging viewers to “build a gentler, kinder society” and extend charity to those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic; on his penultimate episode, he mused that despite many changes in society, “‘Jeopardy!’ remains the same.” The brief, biographical contestant chats were notably absent the sort of occasionally-biting sarcasm Trebek could at times deploy. And throughout, Trebek’s voice was just-perceptibly hoarser than it had been in years past.
But in the main,...

ABC’s series debut of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune topped the ratings Thursday in primetime with a 1.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 7.83 million viewers, pacing a night that saw a slew of debuts across the Big 4 as they continue to roll out their new season fare. Brad Rutter may be one of the greatest “Jeopardy!” contestants of all time, but the quiz show maven also has plenty of experience in broadcasting — dating as far back as the original 2012 pilot for “The Chase,” the U.K. quiz show import he’s starring on again nine years later.

The final Jeopardy! episode hosted by Alex Trebek, which airs Friday, will be remarkably unremarkable, with no farewell by the veteran host or any kind of personal message to viewers in his opening statement.
That is because “Alex didn’t think that was going to be his last episode,” Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards told Deadline about the show, filmed some 10 days before Trebek died November 8 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. “He was planning on hosting the show the next week, that was his focus. And then when he wasn’t feeling well, he told me, ‘I am not going to be able to come this coming Monday-Tuesday but let’s look at the following Monday and Tuesday’; those were the days we shot. What is pressure? That's what Ken Jennings was feeling when tasked with taking over Jeopardy! hosting duties temporarily following the death of the show's longtime host, Alex Trebek. Every year we get a couple of surprise wins at the Grammys. In 2015 many was shocked when Beyoncé’s self-titled album lost Album of the Year to Beck’s “Morning Phase,” while many were just as shocked a few years earlier in 2011 when indie rockers Arcade Fire‘s “The Suburbs” pulled a surprise win against commercial heavyweights like Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and Eminem’s “Recovery.” With the 2021 Grammy Awards already being a little controversial with unexpected noms and snubs across the board, who do we think could surprise us come January 31?
