It seems though that the new series A Man on the Inside, created by television producer, writer, director, and actor Mike Schur with series stalwart Ted Danson has hit all the right spots with the viewers, as it hit Netflix’ most popular English TV list, remaining in the Top 10 for three weeks since its release.

Red One brings out several big names to spread some Christmas cheer to audiences during the holiday season with a relatively unique premise. Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Evans is one of those names, with co-star Dwayne Johnson praising the sense of humor he brought to the film.

Speaking with People during Red One's recent world premiere in Berlin, Johnson hailed Evans for his comedy chops in the action-packed film, suggesting they played off each other well while on set. According to the wrestler-turned-actor, Evans made it difficult for him to keep a straight face throughout production. "'Cause I'm a pro," he said initially before admitting, "No, so many times I laughed. I am notorious for ruining takes. I laugh; it's just what happens." Hearing the premise of A Man on the Inside, the new Netflix sitcom starring Ted Danson, it's easy to assume the whole thing was cooked up by sitcom writers. But as it turns out, the series created by The Good Place and Parks and Recreation showrunner Michael Schur actually has roots in the real world. Not only that, but the whole event was made into a documentary back in 2020.

The sitcom follows a recently widowed retiree named Charles (Danson), who is hired by a private investigator named Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) to pose as a new resident of an elder care facility in order to covertly look into a client's concern that a prized piece of family jewelry was stolen. Being an outgoing and approachable type, Charles doesn't make for the most covert spy, but he quickly befriends many of the residents and learns that what they're really missing is human connection.

When Mike Schur watched The Mole Agent, an Oscar-nominated documentary about a Chilean man who goes undercover in a retirement community to investigate a possible crime, the film “made me feel a certain way.”

“When I talked to other people about it, I realized that they all felt the same exact way. And the way that I would describe how we felt was ‘I need to call my mom,'” Schur (The Good Place, Parks and Recreation) tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Everybody had that same reaction. That’s a really rare piece of art that makes everyone feel something similar.”

Schur’s producing partner, Morgan Sackett, had pitched him the idea of adapting The Mole Agent as a TV series starring Ted Danson, whom they’d worked with on The Good Place. That notion sold Schur immediately, he says, but in thinking more about the documentary, he also realized there...
