The Universal film’s previously announced cast members include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
Universal shared in December that the film “is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new Imax film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to Imax film screens for the first time.”
Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem “The Odyssey” remains one of the oldest pieces of literature still read by modern audiences. It chronicles the story of Greek hero Odysseus during his tumultuous journey home following the Trojan War.

Over the past 10 years Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar has batted a thousand at the Tony Awards. Both of his past Broadway outings — “Disgraced” in 2014 and “Junk” in 2017 — were nominated for Best Play, making him one of only three dozen writers in the history of the Tonys to have two noms for the top honor. His newest drama, “McNeal,” opened in September and stars Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr., who is making his Broadway debut in the role of a troubled, irascible, and extremely successful novelist.
With the incredibly popular Downey at the helm, fresh off his awards-sweeping “Oppenheimer” performance plus an Emmy for his lifestyle program “Downey’s Dream Cars,” “McNeal” will try to accomplish something no other Akhtar play has done before by earning a Tony acting nomination.

Robert Downey Jr. is firmly anti the usage of generative artificial intelligence to recreate his likeness, issuing a warning to potential future executives who may want to bring Tony Stark back from the dead.
The Oscar-winning Oppenheimer actor recently appeared opposite Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar and Tony-winning director Bartlett Sher on the podcast On With Kara Swisher to discuss the former’s Broadway debut in a play about the dangers of the AI age.

Last month playwright Jez Butterworth brought his latest work, “The Hills of California,” to Broadway. The haunting family drama explores the relationships between four sisters and their dying mother in their creaky seaside home, seamlessly moving back and forth in time between 1976 and 1955. The play previously bowed in London earlier this year, and before coming stateside it earned two Olivier Award nominations for Best New Play and Best Actress for Laura Donnelly, who reprises her performance in New York.
Since his Broadway debut only 13 years ago, Butterworth has quickly established himself as one of the theater’s most accomplished contemporary playwrights. He has two Tony nominations to his name, for New York debut “Jerusalem” in 2011 and for his Tony-winning epic “The Ferryman” in 2019. Those nominations alone already tie him with theater royalty including Ayad Akhtar, Tony Kushner, Tracy Letts, David Mamet, Lynn Nottage, Eugene O’Neill, and Wendy Wasserstein — all...

Ant-Man And The Wasp and Transformers One duo Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are working on the script for the adaptation, which is the latest in an increasingly long line of projects based on Baggott's works to enter development. In the new play from Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar, Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. makes his Broadway debut as Jacob McNeal, a celebrated novelist drinking himself toward liver failure as he desperately awaits the Nobel Prize in Literature he so cherishes. But after he actually wins the prize, rendering his initial moping about not having won the prize irrelevant, Jacob inexplicably abandons his work ethic, devotes his creative energies to running a bunch of classic texts through a chatbot, and slaps his name on an A.I.-generated novel.
Jacob’s also finishing up edits on another tome, this one with a story overly borrowed not from robots but from the women in his life, including his wife whose suicide haunts him. In such moments, Akhtar attempts to interrogate whether plagiarism via chatbot is any worse than regular plagiarism or just lifting stories from real people’s lives, but...

The new Broadway play McNeal, starring Robert Downey Jr., started off with a bang, with $746,230 brought in across just four performances last week.
If the production, which is playing at the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater, had played the typical eight performances at that cadence, it would have brought in close to $1.5 million – a big number for a play, putting it in league with the top-grossing musicals. The production played to full houses for every performance, with an average ticket price of $170.37, the second highest in the industry for the week, behind Cabaret, and unusual for a nonprofit house with a large subscription audience.
The play, written by Ayad Akhtar and directed by Bartlett Sher, marks Downey’s Broadway debut and sees him portray a gifted author, but one who always finds himself as runner up for the Pulitzer, as he develops an intense fascination with artificial intelligence. McNeal began previews Sept.

The Broadway debut of Robert Downey Jr. got off to an excellent start last week, with McNeal selling out all four previews at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater and grossing a whopping $746,230.
Ayad Akhtar’s play, directed by Bartlett Sher, staged its first preview last Thursday, September 5, and stars Downey as a revered but perpetual Pulitzer runner-up author who develops what the synopsis tells us is “an unhealthy fascination” with Artificial Intelligence. After a bruising year, Marvel is returning to the very things that worked in the past. That means reuniting with franchise crown jewel Robert Downey Jr. as well as the Russo brothers, who directed the two most successful movies for the studio with “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
But bringing back key members of the old gang won’t come cheap. Sources say Marvel is plunking down $80 million for Anthony and Joe Russo to direct “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “significantly more” for Downey to tackle uber-villain Doctor Doom in the two tentpoles. The Russos’ deal doesn’t include back-end compensation, but it does contain performance escalators that kick in at the $750 million and $1 billion thresholds. A source close to the production disputes those figures and claims the Russo’s paydays are lower. The brothers also will produce the two films via their Agbo banner. That marks...

It’s hard to think of an actor managing his career after leaving a franchise better than has Robert Downey Jr. And that makes his announced return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe — in which he’ll be playing the villainous character Dr. Doom in forthcoming “Avengers” sequels, as announced this weekend — come as a surprise.
Downey’s “Iron Man” kicked off of the MCU in 2008, and his character Tony Stark’s death, in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” was a climax of sorts. “Endgame” represented a culmination of all Marvel storytelling to that point: Downey’s definitive departure meant that this particular set of stories, in which wisecracking defense contractor sat at the emotional center, was done.
What immediately followed his departure was a major hiccup, with his film “Dolittle” bombing critically and commercially in early 2020. It was an attempted franchise-starter, and a cynical one: Downey has said since that he was...

Warning: Some Spoilers for BabylonNow out on digital platforms, Damien Chazelle's Babylon may be one of the more critically divisive albeit lavish films released in 2022. But one aspect of the movie that has garnered near-universal praise is the frenetic and thrilling score by Chazelle's longtime friend and composer, Justin Hurwitz. Whereas Babylon is a product of years of research on Chazelle's part, Hurwitz chose not to emulate what is known of music from the 1920s in creating his score. Instead, Hurwitz leaned on a wide range of influences in order to create a sonic landscape that felt as daring and evocative as the film itself. Although Justin Hurwitz has consistently contributed fantastic music to all of Damien Chazelle's films, the composer's work on Babylon has already been recognized in its own right in the form of a Golden Globe win and Oscar nomination.

“Young and the Restless” star Tracey Bregman has her Daytime Emmy back. The star’s original Emmy was destroyed in 2018 when she lost her house during Malibu’s Woolsey Fire. Bregman won her Emmy back in 1985 for the category that was then known as Outstanding Ingenue/Woman in a Drama Series. She appeared on “The Talk” to help celebrate her 40th anniversary on the show (which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year). Her on-screen husband, Christian Le Blanc, made a special appearance to surprise her with the new Emmy.
