The all-star Garden State 20th-anniversary benefit concert in Los Angeles quickly sold out, but fans of the 2005 movie and its beloved soundtrack will be able to stream the concert exclusively on Veeps.

After 20 years, Zach Braff is bringing the sounds of Garden State to the Golden State.
The three-time Golden Globe nominee announced a 20th anniversary soundtrack concert, which will happen March 29, 2025 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, benefitting homeless shelter The Midnight Mission. Tickets are now available on Ticketmaster.
“It’s been 20 years since my film Garden State came out, and I never could have imagined that the film and the soundtrack would still be resonating with people two decades later,” he said in a video announcement. “So, we had an idea; what if we got together the brilliant musicians from the Garden State soundtrack, live onstage for the first time ever, to raise money for a great cause? Well, it’s happening!

A Scrubs revival could be headed our way, and recent comments made by series star Zach Braff will only fuel our optimism for its arrival. Braff, who starred in the medical comedy for its entire 9-season run, recently discussed the likelihood of a follow-up and the obstacle standing in the way of the show's development. Scrubs, which follows the lives of employees at (fictional) Scared Heart Hospital, is centered around Braff's J.D., a young doctor embarking on his medical career. While promoting a Garden State concert in honor of the indie film's 20th anniversary, Braff told Variety:
"['Scrubs' creator] Bill Lawrence is going press every other week because he's got so many hit shows, so if you look at his statements, they get more and more definitive. I'm not speaking out of school when I say it's a business thing. He's got a Warner Bros. deal but 'Scrubs' is a Disney show.

Twenty years ago, the music industry was wholly unprepared for the Garden State soundtrack and its “life-changing” songs by the Shins, Coldplay, and Iron and Wine. The 2004 movie, which actor Zach Braff wrote, directed, and starred in, was a coming-of-age cringe comedy about grief, following Braff’s character, Andrew Largeman, as he returns to New Jersey for his mother’s funeral and struggles to feel anything but numb. Then Natalie Portman’s quirky character, Sam, arrives to break him out of his funk.

Music makes a good thing better. Would Gwyneth Paltrow walking off a bus be so majestic were it not for Nico? Or would Rahad Jackson’s house be as transcendently warped without Ricky Springfield? And can we all agree that it’s Frou Frou’s fault for making us think Garden State was going to be good? Use an evocative…

Welcome back to another installment of Minority Retort, sure we've only had one so far and it's been nearly a year but what can I say? Most of 2017 is correct with their entertainment-related opinions. Yes, Wonder Woman is great. Yes, Riverdale is a cheesy but addictive and perfect teen drama. But what is wrong? What are you all wrong about?
Well, we have to go back, back to the year 2004 when the Governator ruled California, people were quoting Napoleon Dynamite nonstop, and Facebook was born. 2004 was also the year that a little indie gem called Garden State was released. Garden State was Zach Braff's directorial and writing debut – aside from directing several “Scrubs” episodes. It was praised by critics but, unfortunately, man people I know and many mainstream movie watchers cannot stand it. Is it Zach Braff's attitude? Is it the melodic indie soundtrack? Well, they are all wrong because this movie rules.

I never owned the Garden State soundtrack. I didn’t have to: When I first saw the feature-length debut from director-writer-star Zach Braff, I brought many of its songs with me, in the massive Case Logic CD binder stored securely in the backseat of my third-generation Ford Taurus. Swept out of the theater by the strings and loops of Frou Frou’s “Let Go,” I plopped into the driver’s seat, reached for the binder, and put The Shins’ Oh, Inverted World on the stereo. “Caring Is Creepy” whistled into the night, and I took to the suburban streets just like the film’s protagonist, Andrew “Large” Largeman (director-writer-star Zach Braff). Only I was in a Ford Taurus, not a military motorcycle with a symbolically empty sidecar. My passenger seat was occupied, by a friend who was once my girlfriend but was now a friend again. But other than that...

L’Oreal and Femina’s Women’s awards saw a selected few notable names from the film fraternity in attendance. Here’s how the ladies faired on the red carpet:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Its great to Aishwarya doing the rounds again and even more great to see her taking some leaps with styling. The night saw her in a fresh of the runaway Sabyasachi tunic which she paired with a churidar and matching dupatta. The sleek hair do was a welcome change as was the crisp makeup. Wish she’d worn the tunic as a dress, as presented on the ramp, since the churidaar look is something that she’s done to death but nonetheless that won’t stop me from gushing over how amazing she looked on the night.

Without producers using samples, some of the greatest and most loved hip hop songs would never have been made. Some of the genres most recognisable tracks: the ones you’ve seen friends try to recite word for word over the years, wouldn’t be around if it wasn’t for a crazy creative genius who was willing to borrow from part of a seemingly unlinked song they love and turn it into a head-nodding banger.
Most of the time, samples are pretty easy for hip hop fans to digest. In the beginning, producers would take drum beats from dusty, old jazz vinyls they’d found in whatever record store they came across or, most recently, producers figured speeding up old soul vocals would make for something fans would want to listen to. Tried and tested techniques that everyone loves and no one complains about. But what about the brave...

Sean Patrick Doyle, currently appearing as an Angel in the Tony-winning hit musical Kinky Boots, provides the vocals for the title song in The Boxtrolls, a full length stop-motion from Laika and Focus Features, who brought audiences the Oscar-nominated Coraline and ParaNorman. In the song written by Monty Python's Eric Idle with Oscar-winning Atonement composer Dario Marianelli, Doyle voice-matches Academy Award-winner Ben Kingsley as the evil Archibald Snatcher's alter ego, M. Frou Frou. The animated feature topped the UKIreland box office when it began it's foreign release across eight markets, and arrives in theaters nationwide on September 26th. The soundtrack, featuring Doyle, is currently available for download on iTunes.

So You Think You Can Dance bolted back to life this week after what I'd describe as an uninspired fortnight of shows. Now that the remaining octet is jiving with veterans, the stakes are raised, superstars are separating themselves from the pack, and Mary Murphy tears up at just about everything. I'm willing to bet that my rankings are slightly different from yours this week, but remember: I am not fooled by the breathless flattery of guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson. And neither are you. Right? Good. We're going to get along after all.

There’s a particular joy that comes from an excellent soundtrack accompanying an excellent movie. When the music matches the moment, from The Full Monty to Pulp Fiction to Cool Runnings, we experience a moment of aesthetic contentment.
But what about when the soundtrack is infinitely superior to the film? Buying soundtracks is often a great musical choice, because you get songs from a variety of artists – but what if the film they accompany was mediocre? Or worse still, one you’d never consider (or admit to) watching in a million years?
Here are a few that deserve to be placed in brown paper covers, or filed in itunes under a different name:
The ok-movie-Kickass soundtracks:
10 – About a Boy is a feelgood romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant (how very surprising, I hear you gasp), with a lovely script. It’s one of those films you enjoy, but can’t really remember.

After the Black Eyed Peas took up permanent residence at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for most of the first part of the year, the recent weeks have been wide open, allowing a number of interesting and esoteric tracks to make their way to the top of the heap. Last week saw Owl City's "Fireflies" take the pole position, and this week sees Jason DeRulo's "Whatcha Say" as the top song in the country. DeRulo becomes the fourth artist this year to top the chart with a debut single, Lady Gaga ("Just Dance"), Jay Sean ("Down") and the aforementioned Owl City. (Of course, coupled with the recent chart surge and the New York Yankees' World Series victory, Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" will probably topple it next week.)
"Whatcha Say" is a pretty unlikely chart-topper. The tune is built around a sample of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek,...

I know this is definitely more of a teaser instead of a real trailer, but I simply had to add it to the "Memorable Trailers" series. When I first watched this preview in theaters a few years ago I immediately fell in love with "Garden State." I just knew I was going to adore the film. Still today, Zach Braff's little jewel has a safe spot in my top five flicks ever.
The teaser itself does not reveal all too much about the film's core story, but it gives you enough to get hooked right away. Of course, there's also the beautiful "Let Go" by Frou Frou (one of my favorite songs), which plays really well with the images and helps create a magnificient preview for a fantastic film. Enjoy.
