It sounds like Happy Death Day 3might be dead, at least according to the film's director. Christopher Landon has emerged as an exciting voice in horror-comedies thanks to his work on films like Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Freaky, and the double bill of Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U. Both Happy Death Day films got positive reviews from critics, and fans have been largely awaiting the news of a third entry. Unfortunately, they might want to keep their expectations in check, though, according to Landon.
Speaking with SFX Magazine via GamesRadar, Landon said he had not heard anything from Universal or Blumhouse about Happy Death Day 3. He did say at one point that the studio was considering making the third entry in the franchise a miniseries that would air on Peacock, similar to The Continental: From the Word of John Wick. It sounds like the studio...

The Happy Death Day franchise has carved a unique niche of fans, blending horror and helpless cathartic comedy. Created by Drop director Christopher Landon, this horror-comedy keeps the audience in a time loop, reminding them of films like Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow. The film revolves around the protagonist, Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe), who received critical acclaim for her role.

The franchise has seen two films, the first released in 2017 and garnered an unexpected box office collection, raking in $125 million worldwide on a modest $4.8 million budget. The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, came out in 2019, leaning towards a more sci-fi territory. The film could not match the popularity of its predecessor but still managed to be profitable.
Fans have been waiting for the third installment, hoping that Landon will bring some new twisted horror reckoning to the screen. But the showrunner of Happy Death Day...

Everyone is a suspect in the new trailer for Drop. The upcoming mystery thriller is the latest movie from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon.

The footage reveals that Fahy's Violet is receiving anonymous drops to her phone while on her first date in years. As the drops continue, Violet is soon instructed by the mysterious sender to murder her date, Henry, played by It Ends with Us and 1923 fan favorite Brandon Sklenar. First dates can be nerve-wracking enough, but Drop will seemingly take things to a blood-chilling level with the trailer showing several violent and terrorizing sequences. Happy Death Day to you, Happy Death Day to you…The Happy Death Day series has been surprisingly well received based on just the first two entries, pulling off the task of essentially putting Groundhog Day in the slasher genre (without a killer groundhog…). But it has been over five years since the sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, was released, compared with the two-year gap between the first movies. So have the candles been blown out on the budding franchise or is there still hope for Happy Death Day 3?
Even though it’s been a long wait since 2021’s Happy Death Day 2U, director Christopher Landon still has ideas for what we would see with a Happy Death Day 3, telling Screen Rant that he talked to Universal years ago about how the third installment would differ. “I’ve had the idea for a long time. Christopher Landon still wants to make Happy Death Day 3. The filmmaker recently shared his idea for a third installment in the slasher franchise while promoting his new movie Drop at South by Southwest (SXSW).
Speaking with Screen Rant, Landon confirmed that "a long time ago" he "did [pitch a third Happy Death Day movie]" to Universal and Blumhouse. "I've had the idea for a long time. Jessica Rothe and I have talked about it a lot. The beauty is that it's not set on the same day, and it's not in the same loop. So, if the opportunity should ever arise, and if Universal ever decides that they actually want a third because the fans do...," Landon said, noting that fan demand for another Happy Death Day movie remains high. It follows a college student murdered on her birthday night, who finds herself reliving the day and sets out to find her killer. The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, earned $64.6 million worldwide.

Goofy, high-concept horror efforts succeed or fail based on more than just the talent involved or their dedication to the bit. Christopher Landon, as evidenced by genre mashups like Happy Death Day, Freaky, and Heart Eyes, understands that when the stakes are sky high, the emotions need to be firmly grounded. This is especially apropos for Drop, a high-rise-set, single-location thriller that delivers its shocks liberally mixed with the easy humor and unpretentious emotionality that’s become the filmmaker’s stock in trade.

Netflix has debuted the trailer for the upcoming hospital drama series ‘Pulse.’
As a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended.
Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown. Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them spill out. The rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressure of life-or-death stakes. For this tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patient’s lives is often less complicated than living their own.

Netflix's upcoming new medical drama Pulse is certainly giving off Grey's Anatomy vibes if you ask me. Right down to the central relationship too. But, that doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it! I'm actually really looking forward to the upcoming series. And I think you fellow medical drama fan s will be excited about it too.
Pulse premieres Tuesday, April 3, 2025 on Netflix. There's a total of 10 episodes to look forward to. You might think that something as intense as a medical drama might be too much as a binge. Though with Grey's Anatomy doing so well streaming on Netflix, it's clear there's an audience for it. And I think that's why the streamer is clearly trying its hand at its own version. I'm definitely willing to give it a chance.
I can already tell based on the newly released trailer that I'll also be shipping Danny Simms and Xander Phillips.

Netflix‘s popular romantic drama Virgin River is preparing for a prequel series, but not all fans are on the same page following showrunner Patrick Smith’s teases about the upcoming spinoff. In an interview with Variety in December, Smith opened up about how the prequel will focus on Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, Sarah and Everett, played by Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr, respectively. The actors made their debut in flashbacks in Season 6 and are now set to have their romance explored in a series of their own. The spinoff, Smith said, will focus “not just the romance of Sarah and Everett, but also the origins of Virgin River in the 1970s.” However, many fans are unsure whether a spinoff about Mel’s parents is necessary, with one Reddit user writing, “Why are they making a prequel based off Mel’s parents? She’s not even a likable character.

Because for this tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patients’ lives is often less complicated than living their own.
In the series, as a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended.

One of the projects we’ve been crowing about coming up on Netflix in 2025 is the streamer’s first-ever medical procedural series, Pulse. The series has had the lid lifted on it with an April 2025 release date set. Here are all those first looks and a recap of everything we know so far.
First announced publicly in March 2024 (although in development for at least a year before that), the series marks a first for Netflix, at least when it comes to its English-language programming. Although it’s licensed plenty of medical dramas over the years, it’s never made one itself—at least not a procedural.

Jessie T. Usher recently discussed Netflix's upcoming series Pulse, likening its feel to the early seasons of ABC's acclaimed, long-running medical drama series, Grey's Anatomy. Usher, most well-known for playing the superhero A-Train in the fan-favorite Prime Video series The Boys, will play the Emergency Medicine Resident Sam Elijah in Pulse.
Usher made the Grey's Anatomy comparison in an interview with Screen Rant. The actor refused to give away key story points but called the upcoming Netflix show sexy, romantic, and dramatic. He also expressed that Pulse was a nice change of pace from his experience filming The Boys. "Yeah, Pulse is a medical drama, so Netflix, it'll be airing sometime this spring," he began. "I play Dr. Elijah. I can't give away story points on it, but it has the feel of early Grey's Anatomy. It's sexy, and it's romantic, and it's dramatic in a lot of ways.

Alexandra Breckenridge has become almost a household name due to her phenomenal performance in Virgin River. The show finds her portraying Melinda Monroe, opposite Martin Henderson’s Jack Sheridan.

Based on Robyn Carr’s popular book series of the same name, the show just concluded its sixth season last December. Fascinatingly, it had already been renewed for another season before Season 6 even premiered.
However, things might have been vastly different if Alexandra Breckenridge stuck to a drastic decision she made ahead of the show. The actress recently revealed that she almost turned down the role off the bat, even though she felt suited for it. Thankfully, the showrunners changed her mind.

Netflix's wildly popular series Virgin River is expanding into a franchise with the announcement of a Virgin River prequel series that will explore the history of the characters. Virgin River is based on the novels by Robyn Carr, and the romantic drama follows nurse Mel as she moves to a remote northern California town to escape the hustle and bustle of big city life. However, upon arriving in the eponymous town, Mel soon learns that the idyllic lifestyle isn't all it seems to be.
Already stretching into its seventh season on Netflix, Virgin River has been a consistent hit for the platform for over half a decade. Now, Netflix has set its sights on making the Robyn Carr adaptation into a bona fide franchise, and the Virgin River prequel series is intended to flesh out Mel's family history by exploring the relationship between her parents and the town. Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Virgin River season 6!
During the newest season of Virgin River, one episode serves as a backdoor pilot to the first-ever spinoff set within the Virgin River universe. Since its 2019 debut, Virgin River has gained a significant fanbase, leading to six seasons, with season 7 already on the way. The show follows Mel, a nurse practitioner, who moves to the titular town and falls in love with Jack Sheridan, a marine turned bar owner.
Virgin River had the potential for different lead characters, considering the books by Robyn Carr switch main characters, but Netflix has chosen to focus instead on Mel and Jack. However, this leaves plenty of room for spinoffs set within the same town. Luckily, one is already in the works, and Virgin River season 6 provided it with a backdoor pilot that helps audiences know what to expect.

Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith gives a detailed response on the plans for a prequel and spinoffs. Virgin River season 6 ended in an eventful place after building to the wedding of Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson). But while there are cliffhangers to address, including the fate of Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), the hit romantic drama is also facing down the possibility of expanding with a potential prequel focused on Mel's parents.
In an interview with Swoon, Smith confirms that the prequel is still in development after Mel's parents — Sarah (Happy Death Day's Jessica Rothe) and Everett (Hollyoaks alum Callum Kerr) were introduced in Virgin River season 6. The showrunner and executive producer adds, in the quote below, that viewers can expect them to return for the already-confirmed season 7:

Ever since Virgin River debuted on the streaming giant Netflix about five years ago, it has earned so much love worldwide, with fans and critics alike praising the storyline and beloved characters. While the latest chapter has no rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing, Seasons 4 and 5 have 100% and 80%, respectively. Not to mention, millions of viewers keep tuning in to the rom-drama, contributing even more to its success and which has led to the development of a prequel series that will tell the origin story of Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, Everett (Callum Kerr) and Sarah’s (Jessica Rothe) romance.

In the season, fans have gotten a glimpse of younger versions of Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, Everett (Callum Kerr) and Sarah (Jessica Rothe), whose love story will be at the center of the upcoming project. Although not much has been shared about the prequel, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith recently gave a status update while teasing what’s next for Everett and Sarah to Swooon.

Based on Robyn Carr’s book series, the hit show Virgin River just dropped its sixth season on Netflix. Although the series deviated quite a bit from the books throughout its entire course, the difference is highlighted in Season 6. In it, the show veers a little from Mel and Jack’s storyline to give a backstory to her parents.

Earlier this year, Deadline announced that Netflix was looking to expand the Virgin River universe with a potential prequel spinoff centered on the love story of Mel's parents in the 1970s. Rather than spinning off a current character into their own show, the streaming service was looking back into the archives to tackle some history and flesh out one of season 6's new stories.
In season 5, Mel learned that the father who had raised her wasn't actually her biological father. She hit the ground running trying to find Everett Reid, her birth father, who ironically also lived in Virgin River. When she did track him down, he wasn't immediately forthright or receptive, but he came around, especially in season 6 as he and Mel get to know each other.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Season 6 of Netflix’s Virgin River.
Another Virgin River season ended on a Charmaine-related cliffhanger. She dropped the pregnancy bomb in Season 1 then admitted that Jack was not the father in the Season 4 finale, with Calvin revealed as the dad a year later. Now, Season 6 ended with Jack stopping by to check on her after she didn’t attend his and Mel’s wedding to find her house ransacked and her and the babies possibly missing after she had taken a restraining order against Calvin.
Season 6 followed Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s (Martin Henderson) journey to the altar, with both facing the ghosts from their past before the big day. Trying to build a relationship with her biological father Everett (John Allen Nelson), Mel asks him instead of Doc (Tim Matheson) to walk her down the isle. Everett is overwhelmed, Doc is upset.

Season 6 of Netflix’s popular romantic drama Virgin River, released today, features Mel’s late mother Sarah and biological father, Everett, in flashbacks. As Deadline reported exclusively in February, the storyline is part of an effort to explore a potential prequel that tells the origin story of the two characters, played by Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr, respectively. It is being spearheaded by Virgin River executive producer/showrunner Patrick Sean Smith.
During an interview with Deadline about the new season, Smith provided a status update on the project.
“It’s still in development, so I’m working on that now,” he said of the prequel, which would take place largely in the 1970s.
“I personally see it a little bit like Queen Charlotte to Bridgerton,” he said, referring to Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton, based on Julia Quinn’s books, which got an original prequel, Queen Charlotte, from Shonda Rhimes.

When “Virgin River” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith chose to expand to the universe with a prequel, he knew the casting had to be right. Luckily, he found Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr to take on the roles of Mel’s parents, Sarah Jensen and Everett Reed.
“It was a search. It was always the plan that this could potentially be a back-door pilot, introducing this new timeline, so we cast with that in mind,” Smith tells Variety ahead of the Season 6 drop, during which Rothe and Kerr make their debut. “We did chemistry reads with them and a couple of other actors who were really incredible. But Jess and Callum had such a spark together, such a fire together that it felt like we had hit gold in casting them.”
The spinoff, he says, will focus “not just the romance of Sarah and Everett, but also the origins of Virgin River in the 1970s.
