As we first reported on FearHQ.com, Netflix has just shared a never-before-seen photo of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in season 2 of Wednesday to mark the wrap of production on the second season. The series has been confirmed for release in 2025.

Showrunners and executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a press release today that season 2 will be "exploring more Addams Family Lore and [they] are excited to introduce an eclectic lineup of incredible new characters!"

"This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore," they continued.

The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Ortega will return to lead Wednesday Season 2 as the part-time detective, part-time mystery author, and full-time outcast; she’s also set to produce.

Penguin Random House has partnered up with Amazon MGM Studios to launch a new publishing program featuring a plethora of reading materials for Wednesday ahead of the release of Season 2. Five new titles have been announced for release in 2024 with the second season of the hit Netflix series expected to arrive in 2025.

The first two titles will both be launching on July 2, 2024. One is Wednesday: Official Coloring Book, which includes detailed black-and-white illustrations of characters from the series for fans to color. This will be released alongside I Am Wednesday, a Little Golden Book that's recommended for young readers ages 2 to 5, though adult fans and collectors may also want to pick up their own copies of the tie-in book.

The brand new Addams Family spinoff show Wednesday was on my radar for a while ever since that first teaser that revealed star Jenna Ortega in gothic makeup and completely selling the role right then and there. Plus the fact that Tim Burton would be involved as well as the fact that it would star Christina Ricci – who previously portrayed Wednesday – was incredibly enticing.

A lot of people, however, told me that the show reminded them of an extremely cheesy and cheap CW superhero show. Some even compared it to the abysmally awful Riverdale.

In “Woe is the Night,” the fourth episode of Netflix’s latest smash-hit series “Wednesday,” star Jenna Ortega birthed the latest dance craze with a scene in which she boogies down to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps. But while the scene has since gone viral on TikTok, filming it was a terrible experience for Ortega, who tested positive for Covid almost immediately afterwards.

In an interview with NME released ahead of the whole sensation, Ortega said that she woke up the day the scene was filmed feeling extremely sick. Production had her shoot the dance while awaiting her Covid results.

Netflix’s Wednesday broke another viewing record in its second week on the streamer.

After scoring the most viewing time in a single week for an English-language series on Netflix, the mystery comedy broke its own mark in the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4. Wednesday had 411.29 million hours of viewing worldwide, according to the company’s internal measurement. That marks the first time any English-language series has topped 400 million hours in a week. (Korean breakout Squid Game did so three times in its first season, with a high of 571.76 million hours for its third week of release.)

According to numbers from Netflix, over the course of its first 12 days of availability (November 23 to December 4), the “Addams Family” spinoff series has been watched by over 115 million households for a total of 752.52 million hours viewed. This puts it at No. 3 on the streamer’s list of the top 10 English-language TV seasons, behind “Stranger Things 4” and “Monster: the Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” both of which logged over a billion hours within 60 days of tracking.

The other series on the list include the first two seasons of “Bridgerton,” Season 3 of “Stranger Things,” Season 5 of “Lucifer,” Season 1 of “The Witcher,” “Inventing Anna,” and Season 2 of “13 Reasons Why.” With the ascension of “Wednesday,” the final season of “Ozark,” released this year, was quickly dethroned from the pantheon.

Barry Sonnenfeld took the reins which led to the film becoming a financial success for Orion Pictures. Despite multiple lackluster live-action sequels, Burton was once again linked to a 2010 stop-motion animated reboot for Universal and Illumination Entertainment. MGM eventually delivered two CGI features which garnered mixed to negative reviews. Now, Tim Burton finally gets to lend his signature style to The Addams Family with Wednesday, a dark series centered on the eldest Addams daughter.

Netflix’s official trailer for upcoming comedy horror series “Wednesday” has been unveiled at New York Comic Con, with comedian Fred Armisen revealed as the bald and extremely pale Uncle Fester. On top of that, the trailer unveiled Christina Ricci’s role in the series, which has been shrouded in secrecy since it was announced in March. Ricci played Wednesday Addams in Barry Sonnenfeld’s two Addams family films, 1991’s “The Addams Family” and 1993’s “Addams Family Values.” In “Wednesday,” Ricci plays a teacher at Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) has started as a student, and where she will hone her psychic abilities.

As for Armisen’s surprise casting, in the new trailer, Wednesday is pleasantly surprised when a supposed threat reveals himself to be her Uncle Fester, and the two ride off in a Dalmatian-patterned motorcycle with a sidecar. (Christopher Lloyd famously played the role of Uncle Fester the ’90s movies.

October seems like the perfect month for the premiere of an Addams Family series, but the Netflix series Wednesday isn’t going to be ready for a Halloween season debut. Netflix is kicking up the publicity campaign for Wednesday, The Addams Family spinoff premiering sometime this fall, with an invitation to join the titular character at Nevermore Academy. The fictitious school’s official website greets visitors with a quiz to make sure the school’s the right fit, with questions including how you feel about fitting in and whether your peers understand you.

The Nevermore Academy application breaks from the norm by asking which outcast group you identify with: vampire, gorgon, werewolf, or siren. Or, if none of those fit, you can select “I can’t describe it.” For the purpose of writing this piece, I chose vampire.
