As we first reported on FearHQ.com, Netflix has just shared a never-before-seen photo of Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams in season 2 of Wednesday to mark the wrap of production on the second season. The series has been confirmed for release in 2025.
Showrunners and executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a press release today that season 2 will be "exploring more Addams Family Lore and [they] are excited to introduce an eclectic lineup of incredible new characters!"
"This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore," they continued.
The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams' years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Ortega will return to lead Wednesday Season 2 as the part-time detective, part-time mystery author, and full-time outcast; she’s also set to produce.

Jenna Ortega is back as the Addams family’s death-loving daughter.
In a new photo from Season 2 of “Wednesday,” Ortega is seen frowning her and crossing her arms against a spooky outdoor backdrop — potentially a cemetery — with a gothic gate and two robed statues carrying lanterns behind her. This is the first photo from the Netflix series’ second season, though the streamer previously released a behind-the-scenes clip. Netflix released the photo just after production on Season 2 wrapped in Ireland. The season is set to premiere in 2025.
“Wednesday” follows the titular character’s journey at Nevermore Academy, where her parents, Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luiz Guzmán) first met 25 years ago. In Season 1, Wednesday worked to master her emerging psychic abilities while tracking down a monster terrorizing the local town.
Along with Ortega, Zeta-Jones and Guzmán, the Season 2 cast includes Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer,...

The second season of Netflix's Wednesday has added a new cast member that's sure to bring the show a lot of attention, with Lady Gaga set to join the Addams Family spin-off series in a mysterious role.
Details on Gaga's character have not been released, but Variety believes that her part is more likely to be a cameo than a full-on supporting role.
Gaga's involvement with the series was foreshadowed shortly after the first season, when a meme featuring Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams dancing to a sped-up version of 2011's Bloody Mary went viral.
Ortega would later state that she would love Gaga to be a part of the show while being interviewed at the 2023 Golden Globes.
"I'm sure Netflix would love that. I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part,...

Netflix is looking to add another branch to its Addams Family tree.
The streamer is in the early stages of development on a spinoff of Wednesday. The potential series would focus on Uncle Fester, Wednesday’s (Jenna Ortega) paternal uncle, played by Fred Armisen.
That a spinoff would be in the offing is no surprise, given the runaway success of Wednesday, which premiered in November 2022 and became Netflix’s biggest series to date in terms of streaming “views” (calculated by dividing a movie or show’s total viewing time by its running time). It was renewed for a second season in January.
Amazon MGM Studios, which produces the series and owns rights to the characters, is fully on board as well, per Bloomberg (which first reported development of the spinoff).

“Wednesday” is moving production from Romania to Ireland for Season 2, and is tentatively scheduled to start shooting in April, Variety has confirmed.
The eight-episode first season, which originally debuted last November on Netflix, was shot in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. After breaking multiple streaming series records, including most hours viewed for an English language series in its first week with over 341 million hours, the horror comedy series was renewed for Season 2 in January.
“Wednesday” follows Jenna Ortega as the titular “Addams Family” character, who enrolls at Nevermore Academy. Per the official first season description, Wednesday “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Exclusive: Netflix’s reigning most popular series, Wednesday, is headed to a new locale. The upcoming second season of the Addams Family offshoot will be filmed in Ireland, sources tell Deadline. Details are still being firmed up, but I hear start of production is tentatively slated for late April.
Season 1 of Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, was shot in Romania from September 2021-March 2022. Following the massive global success of the coming-of-age horror comedy, which was released in November 2022, the Wednesday sets became a major attraction, giving Romania a TV tourism boost.
Still, the Balkan location presented logistical challenges, with speculation starting soon after production had wrapped that, if the series would go to a second season, it might film elsewhere. Wednesday, which was renewed in January, hails from MGM Television, whose sibling Amazon Studios has recent experience with relocating a sprawling genre series after Season 1 with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power...

Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
“Even though we thought it was a no-brainer, a lot of people clearly didn’t,” said “Wednesday” co-creator Miles Millar of he and writing partner Al Gough’s years-long experience trying to sell the series that would eventually become Netflix’s newest global phenomenon. “We thought, ‘Oh well maybe it’ll be a YA hit, more like an elevated CW show,’ but then it became much, much more than that. We never anticipated the level of impact and reaction it had.”
To briefly cover the timeline from Gough and Millar’s perspective, they had first come up with the idea for an Addams Family spin-off where daughter Wednesday goes to a supernatural boarding school full of mysteries...

The Jenna Ortega-starrer web-series ‘Wednesday’ has been renewed for Season 2, on Netflix. The eight-episode first season of the series centred on the titular ‘Addams Family’ character, originally debuted on November 23, reports Variety.
Netflix announced shortly thereafter that the series set a new platform record for most hours viewed for an English language series, in its first week with over 341 million hours.
Since then, the show has grown to become the second biggest English language season of television on Netflix with over 1.2 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days, among other streaming series records.
Jenna Ortega stars as Wednesday Addams in the horror comedy series. Per the official first season description, the show centres on Wednesday’s “years as a student at Nevermore Academy.”

Reports of the death of “Wednesday” at Netflix have been greatly exaggerated. Just days after the spread of rumors that the “Addams Family” teen series might leave the streamer for its rival, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix finally gave a second season renewal to the series January 6, confirming that it would air “Only on Netflix.”
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement to Netflix’s official fandom website Tudum. “Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

This just in from the No Duh desk: Netflix has ordered a second season of Wednesday.
The Jenna Ortega-starrer from MGM Television crossed the 1B hours viewed mark – only the third show to do that on Netflix – in less than a month and overtook Dahmer to become the second most-watched U.S. show behind season four of Stranger Things.
For the remaining few who haven’t watched, Wednesday offers a new take on The Addams Family — the classic cartoon strip that was created by Charles Addams which ultimately became a ’60s sitcom and a ’90s feature film. Wednesday ranks No. 2 on the most popular (English) TV list with 1.237 billion hours viewed within its first 28 days.
What’s most unique about the series is how one of Netflix’s biggest rivals, Amazon, is responsible for the series after it closed a 8.5B deal to buy MGM. MGM TV has since...

Stars: Jenna Ortega, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindholme, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan | Written by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, Kayla Alpert, April Blair, Matt Lambert | Directed by Tim Burton, Gandja Monteiro, James Marshall
While attending Nevermore Academy, Wednesday Addams attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents twenty-five years ago.
The brand new Addams Family spinoff show Wednesday was on my radar for a while ever since that first teaser that revealed star Jenna Ortega in gothic makeup and completely selling the role right then and there. Plus the fact that Tim Burton would be involved as well as the fact that it would star Christina Ricci – who previously portrayed Wednesday – was incredibly enticing.
A lot of people, however, told me that the show reminded them of an extremely cheesy and cheap CW superhero show. Some even compared it to the abysmally awful Riverdale.

Who had Amazon supplying one of Netflix’s biggest original series on their 2022 bingo card?
The Jeff Bezos-owned company, after closing its 8.5B deal to buy MGM, is now responsible for Wednesday, which has quickly become its rival’s second biggest English-language series.
The Jenna Ortega-fronted show crossed the 1B hours viewed mark – only the third show to do that – in less than a month and overtook Dahmer to become the second most-watched U.S. show behind season four of Stranger Things.
A renewal is thought to be inevitable, although sources expect that will come in the new year rather than before the end of the year. Producers are starting to talk to writers about joining the second season’s writers’ room and mulling season two locations, and even though MGM has been restructured into Amazon Studios, under Jen Salke, no one expects that to derail future seasons.

In “Woe is the Night,” the fourth episode of Netflix’s latest smash-hit series “Wednesday,” star Jenna Ortega birthed the latest dance craze with a scene in which she boogies down to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps. But while the scene has since gone viral on TikTok, filming it was a terrible experience for Ortega, who tested positive for Covid almost immediately afterwards.
In an interview with NME released ahead of the whole sensation, Ortega said that she woke up the day the scene was filmed feeling extremely sick. Production had her shoot the dance while awaiting her Covid results.
“It’s crazy because it was my first day with Covid so it was awful to film,” Ortega said. “I woke up and – it’s weird, I never get sick, and when I do, it’s not very bad – I had the body aches. I felt like I’d...

Twelve days into its run, Wednesday is now No. 3 in Netflix’s all-time ranking of English-language series with 752.52 million hours viewed. It will likely pass Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (856.22 million hours) in the coming week to take over second place and has an excellent...

She’s creepy and she’s kooky, mysterious and spooky, and all together uber-popular. “Wednesday,” the Netflix teen-comedy series about everybody’s favorite “Addams Family” member, has broken the streaming service’s record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series.

Plot: The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.
Review: Back in 1991, Tim Burton reluctantly passed on directing The Addams Family due to production on Batman Returns. Barry Sonnenfeld took the reins which led to the film becoming a financial success for Orion Pictures. Despite multiple lackluster live-action sequels, Burton was once again linked to a 2010 stop-motion animated reboot for Universal and Illumination Entertainment. MGM eventually delivered two CGI features which garnered mixed to negative reviews. Now, Tim Burton finally gets to lend his signature style to The Addams Family with Wednesday, a dark series centered on the eldest Addams daughter.

Netflix’s official trailer for upcoming comedy horror series “Wednesday” has been unveiled at New York Comic Con, with comedian Fred Armisen revealed as the bald and extremely pale Uncle Fester. On top of that, the trailer unveiled Christina Ricci’s role in the series, which has been shrouded in secrecy since it was announced in March. Ricci played Wednesday Addams in Barry Sonnenfeld’s two Addams family films, 1991’s “The Addams Family” and 1993’s “Addams Family Values.” In “Wednesday,” Ricci plays a teacher at Nevermore Academy, where Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) has started as a student, and where she will hone her psychic abilities.
As for Armisen’s surprise casting, in the new trailer, Wednesday is pleasantly surprised when a supposed threat reveals himself to be her Uncle Fester, and the two ride off in a Dalmatian-patterned motorcycle with a sidecar. (Christopher Lloyd famously played the role of Uncle Fester the ’90s movies.

“Wednesday is currently a teenager, and we’ve never seen her as a teenager before,” Ortega said in a statement. “Her snarky, snide remarks might not necessarily sound as charming when they’re coming from somebody who should probably know better than a 10-year-old girl. Netflix is kicking up the publicity campaign for Wednesday, The Addams Family spinoff premiering sometime this fall, with an invitation to join the titular character at Nevermore Academy. The fictitious school’s official website greets visitors with a quiz to make sure the school’s the right fit, with questions including how you feel about fitting in and whether your peers understand you.
The Nevermore Academy application breaks from the norm by asking which outcast group you identify with: vampire, gorgon, werewolf, or siren. Or, if none of those fit, you can select “I can’t describe it.” For the purpose of writing this piece, I chose vampire. That led to a question about the academic area I’m interested in and I picked supernatural studies.
The last step in the application process requires personal details, including an email and physical address. If you proceed and enter your info, you...
