The Office Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger that left the audience pining for Jim and Pam. A new character only escalated that tension in Season 3, that's why fans saw her as a villain. Rashida Jones said it made sense to hate on Karen.
The odds were stacked against Rashida Jones when she joined The Office's ensemble. In an interview with Amy Poehler, she recalled her brief run playing the show's villain. Her character Karen Filippelli rocked the boat in Season 3, as Jim Halpert's rebound; Jones said the audience wasn't keen about that pairing. "I had done a year on The Office, and they let me go. Which made sense, it made sense," she mused. Poehler thought Karen gained herself a following among the fans, but Jones felt otherwise.
"People did not like me. Like, fans were not about it," Jones asserted. "But they had to create tension for...

As TV shows go, "The Office" is a goldmine of endless trivia, as evidenced by the fact that multiple former stars have started podcasts breaking down the series since it went off the air in 2013. The "Office Ladies" podcast is hosted by Pam and Angela actors Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, while Kevin actor Brian Baumgartner hosted the podcast "An Oral History of The Office" before spinning that off into yet another podcast "The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner." Each of these retrospectives are must-listen resources for fans of the original series, as they provide exhaustive insights into how the show was produced, revealing every bit of behind-the-scenes trivia you could possibly want -- and there's a heck of a lot of it.
One particularly interesting aspect of these series is that it allows the former cast members to reminisce about some of the series' high-profile directors. Throughout its nine-season run,...

Jim and Dwight are two characters with one of the best friendships on The Office. They have a ton of funny moments together, and, as it turns out, a particularly brilliant scene between them happened by complete accident. A lot of the lines for the show were scripted, and the scenes were generally planned out. That's not to say nothing was improvised, as a few of the finest quotes were ad-libbed by various cast members.
The improvisation seemingly contributed to the unpredictable feel of the show. It wasn't always possible to tell where a narrative would end up, which certainly allowed the mockumentary format to be authentic and natural. Viewers needed to believe that the characters didn't know how their days were going to pan out.

Quick LinksThere Was More Than One Reason for Dwight Not Being In the Opening Credits as ManagerJenna Fischer Didn't Like Jim and Pam as the Final ShotBy the End of the Series, Dwight Proved he Could be a Good Boss
Dwight Schrute is an integral character of The Office. He brought humor, eccentricity and some of the best plots on the show. So why, when he became manager, didn't he get his moment in the opening credits like others did? One of the running jokes regarding Dwight was his desperation to impress Michael or any other authoritative figure in the workplace. He treated them like royalty, always with the goal of making his way up the ladder.
There's no question that he was also a difficult person to deal with. Jim shared a desk with him for the most part, which could become irritating, although Jim knew how to pull a prank on Dwight.

More than a decade later, the American remake of "The Office" endures thanks to its popularity on streaming services, the vast amount of memes and GIFs from the show you can find, and the upcoming spin-off about a Midwestern newspaper set in the world of the show and featuring (at least) Oscar Nunez as his character from Dunder-Mifflin Scranton. Add to that the "Office Ladies" podcast, hosted by Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, and the idea of people within the show having preferred episodes makes a lot of sense. Although some people can debate the quality of the show's final two seasons, it's at least safe to say that when Steve Carell departed near the end of its seventh season to pursue his film career and leave the star-making role of Michael Scott behind, the show changed quite a lot.

This week marks the 20th anniversary of The Office, the groundbreaking NBC sitcom that redefined workplace comedy and launched the careers of several cast members. Since the show’s debut on March 24, 2005, many of its stars have gone on to successful careers in television and film, earning critical acclaim and industry recognition — but the ensemble surprisingly did not have the greatest success when it came to Emmy Awards.
Leading man Steve Carell starred as Michael Scott, the endearingly incompetent regional manager of the Scranton branch of paper company Dunder Mifflin. He received six Emmy nominations for Best Comedy Actor during his time on The Office and four Best Comedy Series nominations as part of the show’s creative team, which included creator Greg Daniels, who developed the series from the original U.K. version created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. In April of 2008, writer and producer Michael Schur added a new title to his resumé after getting his start on "Saturday Night Live" and, of course, Greg Daniels' American remake of "The Office". Before "The Office" ended in 2013, Schur was pulled away to work on a show that was initially intended to be a spin-off of the mockumentary set at a Pennsylvania paper company ... a little show called "Parks and Recreation."
Wait, so was "Parks and Recreation" really originally intended to just be a spin-off of "The Office?" The answer to that, amazingly, is yes. According to an archived version of an article in New York Magazine from 2009, the year that "Parks and Recreation" premiered, when Ben Silverman took a role as the co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, the executive asked Daniels and Schur to create a spin-off of the massively popular series. Adaptations of TV shows do not always end up working, but the American version of The Office stands as an exception. One of the most beloved sitcoms based on the Brit series of the same name, the series is soon getting a new spinoff starring the Og star, Oscar Nuñez.

Yeppers, it's true! The Office reboot just confirmed its first returning star, and the excitement for the in-the-works continuation series has officially increased. Obviously, all of us fans are excited to see what's in store for the upcoming Peacock follow-up of the beloved sitcom, but let's be honest, we're all waiting to find out who from the original could be coming back.
Well, our first Dunder Mifflin alum has boarded the reboot to reprise his character: Oscar Nuñez will bring back his character Oscar Martinez. Variety notes that Oscar will not be a central character in the new series set in the same universe as all our favorite characters. Additionally, he's been part of the pilot script from the beginning and will be in the mix with the other new characters.

"The Office" featured a ton of guest appearances along with its core set of recurring characters. Some of these started as guests and moved into full-time roles, like Ed Helm's Andy Bernard. Others made a brief appearance and were out, like Will Ferrell's Deangelo Vickers. And then there were those who rode the line for a while, like Rashida Jones' Karen Filippelli.
Karen arrives in season 3 as Jim Halpert's new love interest. She follows him to Scranton when the Stamford branch closes, and spends the rest of the season becoming a regular fixture of the show. The sweet, sincere nature of Karen's character helps her get along with the group, both in Stamford and Scranton. As far as audiences are concerned, she could have been hated as a third part of the Jim/Pam love triangle, but she wasn't. Whether she needed a fix from her favorite chip...

"The Office" starts by depicting Michael Scott as a bumbling and offensive regional manager. From there, he quickly shifts to a more pathetic character who can't get out of his own way when it comes to romance. It isn't until the fading moments of season 4 that Michael first starts to find true, transformative love in the arms of an unsuspecting Hr rep from the Dunder Mifflin Nashua branch: Holly Flax.
The surprising thing is that Holly was actually never supposed to become a major part of Michael's love life. Instead, she was supposed to be more of a one-hit wonder. When Steve Carell left "The Office," it felt very much like one of the last nails in the series' coffin. While the show took a marked turn for the worse after Carell's departure, "The Office" had been struggling to recapture the magic of its earlier seasons for a while before its star bowed out at the end of the seventh season. As such, while it was bittersweet to see Michael go, it was understandable from Carell's point of view. The actor had become a huge star in the wake of the show's success, especially with several movie hits propelling his rise. Therefore, clinging on to a series that was starting to show signs of a decline didn't seem like the best move. So, Steve Carell left "The Office" on April 28, 2011 in the emotional two-part episode "Goodbye, Michael," and after that, the series was never the same — hardly surprising, seeing as...

There are a lot of things so far in the year 2025 that have felt like a fever dream, and today we’re here to bring you something else. Variety has revealed that the Green Day-inspired comedy flick, New Years Rev has added four members to its cast — and it’s quite a mix of names. The latest quartet to add their talents to the Lee Kirk-helmed production are Mckenna Grace (Scream 7), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Bobby Lee (Reservation Dogs) and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls). The four newbies add their names to a cast that will be led by Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Kylr Coffman (Major Crimes) and Ryan Foust (Marry Me). Other members of the growing ensemble include everyone’s favorite The Office podcasting duo, Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, as well as Ignacio Diaz-Silverio (A Good Person) and Keen Ruffalo (Thor: Ragnarok).

Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn have joined the cast of “New Years Rev,” the Green Day-inspired comedy movie from writer-director Lee Kirk.
The film, a coming-of-age story about three friends who journey to Los Angeles under the false belief that their band is opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve, is based on the California punk rockers’ early exploits from living in a tour van.
Live Nation Productions describes the project as a “rowdy and mischievous” road-trip comedy “filled with adventures,” plus a live performance from Green Day.
Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust star as the band members alongside “Office” favorites Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo.
“Not only will ‘New Years Rev’ include wall to wall Green Day music and a concert at the Palladium in Hollywood, it’ll also feature some of the best and funniest actors working today.

Spin-offs aren't always a good idea. For every "Frasier" or "Young Sheldon," which originated from "Cheers" and "The Big Bang Theory" respectively, there's a "Joey," the follow-up to "Friends" that spectacularly crashed and burned. "The Office" didn't get a spin-off immediately after it ended in 2013, but it almost did — and one of the show's last episodes was a backdoor pilot for the spin-off that never was. It's a good thing it never came to fruition, frankly ... because it would have screwed up the happy ending between main characters Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) and Angela Martin (Angela Kinsey).
The 17th episode of the ninth and final season of "The Office," simply titled "The Farm," was intended as a backdoor pilot — a seemingly bygone practice where showrunners would center an episode around characters and scenarios that they hope will result in a spin-off later. "The Office" had an impressive array of guest directors over the course of its nine-season run. J.J. Abrams, Harold Ramis, and Jon Favreau — who coincidentally was on the original shortlist of actors to play Michael Scott in "The Office" — all helmed episodes of the series. Another big-name guest director who wasn't brought on until the ninth and final season was Bryan Cranston, who oversaw the fourth episode of season 9, entitled "Work Bus." While the season itself isn't anyone's favorite stretch of the series, Cranston's episode is memorable for a very dark reason — namely, for almost killing the entire cast of the show.
The series' 180th episode overall, "Work Bus" saw the staff of Dunder Mifflin leave the office after Jim (John Krasinkski) convinces Dwight (Rainn Wilson) that the office itself is unsafe. Dwight then brings in an airport shuttle bus as a temporary workspace and the staff cram themselves...

Fans of The Officewon't struggle to think back on the cameo role that Amy Adams had. Early on in the series, she had a small but integral part to play. She fitted seamlessly into the mockumentary setup, and conveyed all the emotions her character went through after coming into contact with some of the bizarre people at Dunder Mifflin. The Office came early on in Adams' career in film and TV, demonstrating her ability to act with sincere realism. Moving on from the show, she has become best known for roles such as Brenda in 2002's Catch Me if You Can and 2007's Giselle in Enchanted, which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. She later won two of those awards in the same category, for American Hustle (2013) and Big Eyes (2014).

A team up between The Office stars and Green Day was not on my 2025 Bingo card, but I'm intrigued. The punk rock band known for hits like “Basket Case,” “American Idiot,” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” are working with two alums of NBC's most popular comedy show on an unexpected new movie. While the film has been described as a comedy, it is not related to the recently released and poorly received Australian version of the long-running show about printer and paper sales. The new film sounds much more exciting.

Live Nation Productions is currently working on a comedy movie inspired by Green Day. More on New Year’s Rev below.
American Idiot, Green Day’s smash hit from 2004, is still one of the biggest tunes of the noughties. Given the band’s status, it’s slightly surprising that there hasn’t been a biopic about them yet – after all, Hollywood loves the genre. Live Nation Productions, meanwhile, is planning something a little different for the Californian rock outfit.
Instead of a traditional biopic, the studio is making a comedy movie “inspired by” the band, as reported by Variety. Per Variety, the film, titled New Years Rev, is a comedic coming-of-age story of three friends who travel to Los Angeles and believe (mistakenly) that their band is opening for the legendary Green Day on New Year’s Eve (so no worries about waking up Billie Joe Armstrong before September ends).

Welcome to paradise, Green Day fans. The punk icons are producing a comedy movie inspired by their time living in a tour van during their early days as a rock trio.
The film is called “New Years Rev,” it’s a comedy written and directed by Lee Kirk (“Ordinary World”), and it is already in production in Oklahoma. Let’s hope this movie about the early days of a musical icon is more successful than the scrapped one based on Pharrell Williams’ childhood.
Here’s the official synopsis: “New Years Rev” is a coming-of-age story about three friends — played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust — who journey to Los Angeles, mistakenly believing that their band is opening for Green Day on New Years Eve. There's a reason "The Office" remains so beloved more than a decade after its ninth and final season ended in 2013. In fact, there are several reasons, from the cast to the writing to the way in which the early episodes, at least, felt like they were giving you a glimpse into the lives of real people who just happened to have an absolutely twisted weirdo as a boss. But the show was also just packed with some incredibly funny moments that remain forever embedded in fans' memories. From the disastrous dinner date at Michael (Steve Carrell) and Jan (Melora Hardin)'s house to the legendary fire drill cold open that began one of the best and most chaotic episodes of "The Office," the series' already hilarious tone was punctuated by so many of these comedic high-points.

Timothy Olyphant, the star of films like Scream 2 and Rock Star, along with TV shows like Justified and Deadwood, was once featured as a guest star in the NBC sitcom The Office. But per his comments, he's not quite happy with his work on the show. He calls his character "a little bit of a disappointment."
Per the report by Cinema Blend, Olyphant visited Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer on their podcast Office Ladies. Kinsey and Fischer played series regulars Angela and Pam, and in their show, they go through each episode of the series. A few performers from The Office have shown up in several episodes, and when it was Olyphant's turn, he recalled the experience of working on the series. Adam Scott is currently riding high on the success of the mind-bending sci-fi show Severance. The actor plays Mark Scout, a manager at the offices of Lumon Industries, who has gone through the severance procedure in the show and is disconnected from his non-work self. The show is streaming on Apple TV+.
While Scott is known for his roles in sitcoms like Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, and Big Little Lies, the actor only became the lead in Severance. However, he might have gotten the chance a tad bit earlier as he had auditioned for a key role in The Office. However, he lost the role to one of the most beloved actors in the series.

Hot in Cleveland may seem like one of the last places you’d expect to see any Frasier cast reunions. With its predominantly female cast and a setting over 2,000 miles away from Seattle, the show bears few similarities to Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce’s zany high-class world. In fact, it’s usually compared to Golden Girls.
However, against, Hot in Cleveland hosted many impromptu cast reunions for the turn-of-the-millennium psychological sitcom. Behind the scenes, it was written by Suzanne Martin, who contributed to multiple episodes of Frasier, and on-screen, it has some familiar faces as well. Jane Levees, best known for playing Daphne Moon in Frasier, is part of the series’ lead cast. Wendie Malick, who portrayed Martin’s (played by John Mahoney) girlfriend, is also part of the primary lineup. And they’re joined by many other well-known personalities as the show progresses.

Brought up to have a deep connection with her faith, Angela Kinsey played a very similar character to herself in the American mockumentary sitcom The Office. Donning the role of the strict and religious Angela Martin from the accounting department of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Kinsey recalled how she felt like one joke had gone too far, regarding her character.

Although her character often clashed with others in regards to her faith, there was this one instance where Angela was portrayed as being overly judgmental towards Oscar Nuñez’s character Oscar, a gay coworker. Surprisingly, this led the actress to take a stand against the joke and approach the show’s creator, Greg Daniels, to express her concerns and demand that he remove it from the show.

One of the best things about The Office was how the characters would interact with the camera, making it seem like a character in itself. While the number one rule of filming is to not break the fourth wall, the actors on the sitcom had a blast doing just that. However, interacting with the camera wasn’t easy for everyone but there was one guest star who blew Steve Carell’s mind way – Amy Adams.

While the hilarious and eccentric characters of The Office were enough to keep people engaged through its nine-season run, the American mockumentary sitcom took things to the next level, by bringing in animals as part of the show, from time to time. But sadly, when people almost had a chance to meet Dwight’s wolf, the show scrapped the idea of ‘Pet Day’.

No matter how many times fans have binge-watched The Office, they will almost unanimously agree that the sitcom’s most emotional moment arrives when Steve Carell’s Michael Scott departs Dunder Mifflin. While it is already difficult to hold back tears watching Michael leave, the episode is made even sadder with a deleted scene that has resurfaced thanks to the Superfan episodes available on streaming.

After the Christmas cheer, it’s time to sing ‘Happy New Year’ as 2025 is almost here. But before we step into the new year, how can we not talk about such an iconic episode from the American sitcom The Office, in which Jim Halpert was absent? It broke many hearts as they couldn’t see Jim and Pam together in the New Year episode, ‘Ultimatum’.

Even long-time fans of Saturday Night Live and The Office have to admit that some jokes haven't aged well. SNL (soon to be 50 years old), and the U.S. The Office sitcom are both no strangers to controversial moments and jokes. When both shows collided in a special SNL sketch in 2008, the controversy was dialed to 11. Michael Schur, who wrote on SNL before writing the US Office, said he felt blindsided by the controversial sketch, and knows it hasn't aged well.
Appearing on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, Schur remembered the controversial pre-taped sketch. The episode saw Steve Carell host the beloved live-comedy show, and the episode joked about the US The Office ripping off the British version. The show's original creator, Ricky Gervais, opened the sketch, explaining how the British version was inspired by a Japanese show called The Office, before showing a "never before seen on American TV" clip.

Amy Adams almost didn’t appear in the American version of The Office because of one casting concern among the creative team. Based on the BBC series of the same name, The Office was a mockumentary that followed a seemingly mundane paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania called Dunder Mifflin. The show ran for nine seasons on NBC from 2005 to 2013, won five Emmys, and remains an iconic series today, especially with the extended episodes on Peacock. Adams appeared in The Office as Katy Moore, a salesperson who visits the office to sell purses. Eventually, she and Jim (John Krasinski) strike up a romantic relationship that lasts until season 2.
In an episode of the podcast Office Ladies from The Office alums Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey, it’s revealed that Adams wasn’t the first choice for the role. According to Fischer, they shot a whole day’s worth of footage...

Jenna Fischer recently revealed some behind-the-scenes facts about The Office, explaining that Amy Adams almost didn’t get the role of Katy Moore, the purse saleswoman in the Season 1 episode “Hot Girl.” Fischer shared that the casting team was hesitant at first because they thought Adams looked too much like her.
On the Office Ladies podcast, which she co-hosts with Angela Kinsey, Fischer explained that Adams wasn’t the original choice for Katy. Another actress was cast and filmed for a day, but the team decided she wasn’t the right fit.
Adams was then brought in and quickly proved she was perfect for the part. Fischer recalled, “She was so seamlessly Katy. She improvised a lot, and much of her dialogue made it into the episode.”
However, there was some resistance to casting Adams because of her resemblance to Fischer. One writer reportedly said, “We can’t cast her.
