Squid Game is back with more blood and a taste for revenge.
Netflix’s biggest ever series, which launched in September 2021, returns for its second season later this month and it’s just as dystopian, violent and vicious as the first with more than 450 new characters to kill off.
The first season, which scored 14 Emmy nominations including wins for star Lee Jung-jae and creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk for directing, was inspired by the Korean financial collapse.
The world, according to Dong-Hyuk, otherwise known as Director Hwang, is just as screwed up as it previously was, inspiring him to go back to the island for another round of Squid Game.
The second season starts with Seong Gi-hun, otherwise known as Player 456, played by Lee, searching for the people behind the game, three years after winning it. He’s using the ₩45.6 billion prize to fund this search, helped by a large group of ne’er-do-wells and underworld figures,...

Netflix’s latest Korean romance-mystery drama, The Trunk, questions the basis of conjugal relationships in a time when increasingly fragmented lifestyles have created an existential crisis—pitting self-centered endeavors against the notion of companionship. The idea of marital relationships functioning solely on the basis of personal necessities, as a transactional affair, is an extension of issues like fear of commitment, emotional baggage, lack of self-reflection, and acceptance of personal drawbacks. Needless to say, exploring topics such as these will need the backing of strong performances by the cast, something which The Trunk doesn’t lack one bit. The complexities of the emotional intricacies of the narrative were expertly handled by the ensemble cast, allowing viewers to relate with the characters and even the supporting cast, a number of whom played the role of comic relief, proving their excellence with the roles they were given.

Imagine you live in a world where contract marriages don’t even turn heads. Where the institute itself is to be improved upon. Where you can be married to someone for a year and then forget about them forever. The Trunk tells the story of a man who is forced into a contract marriage by his ex-wife as a test for them to get back together a year later (I know!). However, this contract marriage completely changes this man, Jeong-Won’s life. The series begins with the titular mysterious trunk being found in the middle of a lake. The series follows two mysteries, one of the trunk and one of the marriage itself.
Seo Hyun-Jin’s highly anticipated comeback with Hallyu superstar Gong Yoo has finally graced our screens, and fans will not be disappointed. The mystery series dives straight into the story without wasting any time. Visually, this K-drama...

The Korean drama, The Trunk, is a mix of thriller and romance starring Seo Hyeon-jin and Gong Yoo. The story is about a man who thought he could never fall in love again after his wife left him, and a woman who refused to accept that the man she had been waiting for would never return. Noh In-ji and Han Jeong-won’s paths crossed in perhaps the most unromantic way, but as time passed, they started to depend on each other. In-ji worked for New Wedding, a company that provided marriage services. They believed that not every marriage was meant to last a lifetime, and not everyone could find the love of their lives, but they deserved to experience marital bliss or, in some cases, flaunt their partners to the world. In-ji lost her faith in marriage when the man she loved left her a few days before their wedding.

Netflix K-drama The Trunk is a strange limited series that seems to be taking place in some sort of dystopian parallel universe. The show, starring Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun-Jin in the leading roles, is certainly unique and tells the story of a contract marriage between our protagonists. Noh In-Ji has been working under the contract marriage company Nm for the last 5 years after experiencing a life-altering event. Her 5th contract is with a man named Jeong-Won, and he’s different from any of In-Ji’s previous clients. The thing is, Jeong-Won doesn’t really want this marriage; it’s his ex-wife who insists that he must in order for them to get back together (huh?). As you can imagine, things don’t really work out for the ex-wife Seo-Yeon, but the journey there is deep and complicated. So, with that said, let’s not waste any time and start...

Player 456 plans to end the Squid Game once and for all — from the inside.
The second season of the global smash-hit Netflix series picks up three years after the first, which is the same length of time between seasons, as Player 456 scratches his plans to settle in the United States. Retirement doesn’t seem to suit Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) — at least, not as well as the green tracksuit. Our hero also ditches the red dye in his hair, a small but helpful cosmetic change as the new baddie of the bunk beds has purple hair. How do we know the purple-haired contestant is a bad guy? Just see what dude does during Red Light, Green Light.

Let the new Squid Game begin … or end?
That’s the question after Seong Gi-hun, a.k.a Player 456, after winning the first season of Squid Game on Netflix, returns to try and end the mysterious survival game where Koreans gamble with their lives once and for all.
Asked at one point in the official trailer that dropped on Tuesday why he’s back in the arena, Player 456, played by Lee Jung-jae, declares: “I’m trying to put an end to this game.” Whether other players opt out and end the survival game that has contenders fighting to the death for a big cash prize promises to be a major theme during the upcoming second season, which bows Dec. 26.
The official synopsis for the second season from Netflix reads: “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind.

After the fantastic first season of Squid Game, anticipation is sky-high for season 2. It won’t be easy, but creator Hwang Dong-hyuk seems confident that the new season will live up to the hype with a darker story.
“I believe what we’ve created on Season 2 is a deeper, more advanced story,” Hwang told Empire. “I feel it could even surpass Season 1. But physically, mentally, it was not easy. Some of the sequences we shot were the most challenging in my whole career. It was… hell.” He went on to tease that the second season won’t be a walk in the part. “I even had some concerns because the story told in the second season is much crueller, scarier and more gruesome than the first,” he said. “Honestly, I thought to myself… ‘Is this too much for people to handle?’” Will Squid Game season 2 be the Empire Strikes Back of the series?...

Squid Game season 2 has the following synopsis: Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.

The first extended look at season two of Squid Game shows that the game won’t get any easier for any of the green-tracksuited contestants.
Netflix has released a teaser for its global hit’s second season that finds Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) playing once again. This time, however, he’s surrounded by a host of new players who don’t know as well as he does what they’re in for — and in some cases don’t seem to care, as they’re drawn by the potential to win a life-changing sum of money that’s dangled in front of them.
When Seong tries to explain he’s played the games before, another player wonders “Why the hell would you come crawling back?” before leading a chant of “One more game!” among his fellow players. Watch the teaser below.

The end of the holiday season in America will be marked by one thing and one thing only: the arrival of "Squid Game" season 2. The smash hit South Korean series from Netflix and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk became the streaming juggernaut's most popular series of all time, inspiring a reality TV competition show (that completely misses the point of the original series) and an upcoming sister series set in America from David Fincher (that will probably be awesome). Although it took over a decade for Dong-hyuk to get "Squid Game" into eyeballs across the globe, Netflix is making sure the show will end without another big break between seasons; season 2 hits just after Christmas, and the third and final season will drop sometime in 2025. Considering the show's premise revolves around hundreds of people dying in an attempt to secure financial stability, season 2 unfortunately won't see a lot of returning faces (Rip...

As we await the second season of Netflix’s dystopian, Korean smash hit “Squid Game,” a report suggests the streamer may finally be looking to expand the story’s universe with a spinoff series from one of its biggest creators: David Fincher.
Fincher is reportedly eyeing an English-language “Squid Game” spinoff as his next project under his deal with the streamer, according to a report in Deadline. If something were to go into development, it would be the first scripted expansion of the show since it debuted in 2021.
No other details are out there, such as whether it’s a spinoff connected to the main show or a remake in English, but it could be Fincher’s next focus in 2025.
Netflix declined to comment.

There have been rumblings for several years that David Fincher is working on something in the Squid Game universe. Although nothing is official, sources have told Deadline that Fincher is developing a new English-language Squid Game series for Netflix, which will likely be his next project.
It was originally thought that Fincher would be helming a Squid Game movie, but it seems clear now that this would be a full series. Again, nothing is official, but the idea of Fincher tackling Squid Game is very interesting. Although I will admit, I would prefer to see him do another original project. There’s also the question of whether Netflix even needs to do an English-language remake. The first season of the series still stands as Netflix’s most popular show of all time, with over 2.2 billion hours viewed. If Fincher’s remake does move forward, I could see it taking the...

If it feels like a lifetime since "Squid Game" season 1 came out, that's probably because we've all collectively forgotten how to process the passage of time since 2020. In the three years since Hwang Dong-hyuk's harrowing Netflix survival thriller series took the planet by storm, the real world has only continued to validate Hwang's larger critiques of capitalism. In a darkly ironic turn befitting of the show itself, Netflix might be the biggest culprit in that respect, launching the highly-controversial reality competition series "Squid Game: The Challenge" and proving there is, in fact, nothing the twisted capitalist machine can't exploit as a way of making money.
Suffice it to say, with season 2 arriving just in time to round out the winter holidays and usher in the new year, Hwang should have plenty of fresh material to mine for inspiration. The second season of "Squid Game" (check out the trailer) will...

Squid Game, the biggest show to ever air on Netflix, is returning for a second season. Netflix has dropped a new teaser trailer, above, which features Gong Yoo's mysterious salesman getting ready for a day of work tempting indebted, down-on-their-luck workaday stiffs into playing a game in the hopes of making some money. The hope is that eventually they'll participate in the Squid Games, an elaborate tournament where poor people put their lives on the line for the entertainment of a group of voyeuristic billionaires, with one of them walking away with a grand prize at the end. Oh my goodness! The Squid Game season 2 teaser is only one minute long, but it has me so hyped to get back into this nail-biting world and begin the game once again. And Player 456, aka Seong Gi-hun, is back in the game as well. What are his motives? We'll get into some theories, but first check out the video released by Netflix.
As revealed above, Gi-hun suits up once again to get back into the game. Now where we left off at the end of season 1, he had vowed to get revenge on those controlling the game. So I'm assuming he wants to find a way to shut it down. Though according to the synopsis, it's been three years since his bittersweet victory. So are those still his motives?
Plus, we see the Front Man himself show up at Gi-hun's door. Why does he want Player 456 back in the game?...

Squid Game shattered all expectations when it premiered on Netflix back in 2021, quickly becoming the most-watched season of television in the streamer's history. The Korean-language drama told the story of Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a desperate man who entered into a competition where he and other contestants competed in children's games for a life-changing amount of money—the snag being that if they lost, they died.
The show was a phenomenon, resonating with viewers around the globe. Even though the first season wrapped up neatly, it was always a foregone conclusion we were going to get more. Netflix has even launched a gameshow, Squid Game: The Challenge, based on the series. Whether that's missing the point of the show or not, I leave to you to decide.
Now, at long last, we have a new teaser for Squid Game season 2. Seong Gi-hun is back in the game:

Netflix recently announced a return date - and end date - for mega-popular dystopian drama series, Squid Game, and the streamer finally debuted a proper teaser trailer (though it's still only a minute long) for the second season during Geeked Week.
The promo begins with a clearly on-edge (and who wouldn't be?) This time, though, Gi-hun has a very different objective: Revenge.
When we last saw Seong Gi-hun, he had emerged as the only survivor of the lethal games, which saw 456 contestants in various degrees of severe financial trouble put their lives on the line for the chance of winning a ₩45.6 billion (roughly €30m) prize.

To be frank, the extremely brief (and very vague) teaser trailer for "Squid Game" season 2 wasn't enough to get us jazzed about the long-awaited return of Netflix's most popular show of all time — especially since it's been three dang years since the show originally premiered. Everyone who watched it back then has moved on with their lives, so while Netflix can obviously promote the heck out of this by using its algorithm to plop it back on every subscriber's home screen the day the new season drops, you have to wonder if anyone at the streamer is nervous about a majority of viewers straight up forgetting the finer points of the show after all this time.
Thankfully, a new trailer has finally arrived, providing a more in-depth look at the return to the candy-colored, late-stage capitalist hellscape we all visited in 2021. Here's the official synopsis for season 2:

It’s been three years since the world was introduced to Hwang Dong-hyuck’s timely and harrowing dystopian thriller “Squid Game,” but we are now finally getting a peek at what’s ahead for Season 1 winner Seong Gi-hun aka Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae).
