The teen drama Veronica Mars, about high school detective Veronica and her quest to solve the mysteries of Neptune, California, broke boundaries when it came to writing female heroines for television. Veronica, played by Kristen Bell, is intelligent and tough, but also vulnerable and flawed as she navigates criminal investigations and life as a high school student. A laudable element of the show was how it was able to incorporate romance into Veronica's story of gritty detective work. But one love interest failed to win the affection of the teen detective and fans — Duncan Kane.

Duncan Kane, played by Teddy Dunn, began as an integral character in the show, but over the course of two seasons became less and less relevant to the plot. I know it doesn’t feel like 2004 was 20 years ago, but it was, which means many great TV shows just turned 20 years old.

Seriously, 2004 is a sneaky good year for new TV premieres. Most of the titles on this list of good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024 were broadcast hits. The cable networks had a decent market share in the early 2000s, but we’re still a decade before the streaming industry changed the TV game.

At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!

In 2019, an eight-episode fourth season was released on Hulu. Is Veronica Mars really returning? Deadline reports Hulu is considering a revival of the Kristen Bell TV show.

The original series starred Bell as the titular Mars, a high school student who moonlights as an amateur detective in the beachside town of Neptune, California. Kristen Bell will return as the titular detective in a Hulu series revival of Veronica Mars, sources tell Variety. Rob Thomas, who created the original Upn/CW show, will serve as writer for the mystery-drama, with Warner Bros. as the studio. The deal is reportedly not finalized as of this writing, and no further casting or plot details have been reported.

“Veronica Mars” could be making its long-awaited TV return.

Sources tell Variety that a revival of the series is currently in the works at Hulu with original series star Kristen Bell poised to return as the titular detective and original series creator Rob Thomas serving as writer. Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original series, would be the studio. Sources caution, however, that the deal for the series is not yet final. It is also unknown if any other original series stars besides Bell would return or what the plot of the series would be.

Among the matters complicating the deal is that Bell currently stars in the hit NBC comedy “The Good Place.” Should the “Veronica Mars” project move forward, it would need to shoot around her schedule for the latter show, meaning it would likely be a limited series consisting of eight to ten episodes.

Back in January, it was announced that Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is behind a new web series for CW Seed, which centers on both the actor Ryan Hansen and his Dick Casablancas character from the original series and the Veronica Mars movie. Today, it has been confirmed that the web series will be entitled Play It Again, Dick, and will feature Veronica Mars stars Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Jason Dohring (Logan Echolls), Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars), Percy Daggs III (Wallace Fennel), Daran Norris (Cliff McCormack), Francis Capra (Eli "Weevil" Navarro), Kyle Gallner (Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas) and Christopher B. Duncan (Clarence Wiedman), all playing both their fictional characters and real-life versions of themselves.

The show will follow Ryan Hansen trying to kickstart his writing career by crafting a spin-off of the Veronica Mars series. Here's how series creator Rob Thomas described the project back in January, comparing it to Party Down.

When Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell unveiled their Kickstarter campaign last year, it wasn’t just the fans who were on the edge of the seat to see if a movie would be made. There are several things you should know about "Veronica Mars." First, you should know that it's great. While I think the full run of the show, seasons one through three, is uneven at times,  particularly towards the end, the high points are so high, and the basic heart and soul of the show is so durable, that I am completely puzzled as to why it was ever anything less than a ratings gargantuan. Second, you should know that the new film leans heavily on the relationships of the characters in the series, and at least in script form, it never felt like it was slowed down or over-explained for newcomers. It's very much a next chapter of "Veronica Mars," and that should have fans very excited. For four straight years now, After Dark Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For has been unleashed. Eight original horror films to quench your thirst for blood and gore and screams galore. Last year I was able to check out and review their third collection of horrors (Read: DVD Review: After Dark Horrorfest III: 8 Films To Die For), and was rather excited to check out their new slate this year! Instead of cramming every review into one mammoth review, this year we'll take it one flick at a time, with this little opener stuck at the top of each one.

Picture yourself at a party with all of your closest friends. You're drinking, laughing, and having an all-around great time.

Remember that movie that came out a couple of years ago that was going to jet propel Hayden Christensen into mega-stardom? No? It was that one where he was able to teleport himself anywhere in the world and they shot it in multiple countries. No, well, it seems that a sequel is on the way!

I thought Jumper was pretty terrible. I was bored from the beginning and that boredom didn’t disappear throughout the whole movie. I don’t find Hayden Christensen to be a very charismatic actor and to be honest, although it looked visually pretty good, the whole experience was pretty lame. Jumper hosted a pretty cool cast which also included Jamie Bell, Samuel L. Jackson, Rachel Bilson, Michael Rooker, Diane Lane, AnnaSophia Robb, Max Thieriot, Teddy Dunn, Jesse James and was directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity).

Now in it's fourth year, Horrorfest, the annual cinematic showcase for After Dark Films, has established something of a reputation as a platform for fresh, daring filmmakers to get themselves noticed. More than just a simple market for nasties, the After Dark label stands for quality by way of authenticity, delivering horror films by genre lovers for genre lovers. In addition to this yearly frightfest, After Dark recently announced a new venture to develop their own projects, in partnership with SyFy, NBC, and Lionsgate, titled After Dark Originals. Aiming to do for horror what the Sundance Institute did for the American indie, the eight slate series will begin production next month with a view towards theatrical release later this fall.

Los Angeles, CA (January 8, 2010) — Kill Theory, the eighth and final pick for After Dark Films Horrorfest 4, was announced today by Adf CEO Courtney Solomon.

The national film festival opens January 29, 2010 for one-week in 25 markets.

Kill Theory was written by Kelly Palmer and directed by Chris Moore (Producer, Good Will Hunting and upcoming Adjustment Bureau).

Starring roles are filled by Agnes Bruckner, Patrick Flueger, Taryn Manning, Teddy Dunn, Ryanne Duzich, Daniel Franzese, Theo Rossi, Steffi Wickens, and Kevin Gage. The film was produced by Dan Abrams, Julie Dangel and Amanda White. Adam Rosenfelt, Chris Bender, and Morris Bart also produced.

Not unlike the puzzles that a certain teen detective has solved, the possibility of a Veronica Mars movie is somewhat of a mystery. Will it ever be written? Even more importantly, will a studio actually back a film based on a little-watched TV show? It won't take a "Nancy Drew" to solve this one, just a writer that can't seem to get this character out of his head.

Veronica Mars is the longtime pet project of series creator Rob Thomas. It began as a young adult novel, with a male teen detective as the main character.
