One of the mysteries from Succession is finally getting resolved by series creator Jesse Armstrong. The fourth and final season of the HBO drama had a moment that was up for debate among the die-hard fans of the show.
In the fourth episode titled “Honeymoon States,” everyone is mourning the loss of Logan Roy, played by Brian Cox. Peter Friedman’s Frank finds a piece of paper that seemingly notes that Jeremy Strong’s Kendall would be Logan’s successor. However, a line that starts underneath Kendall’s name and moves up to cross the latter part of his name made fans question if Logan wanted Kendall as his successor or crossing his name out not wanting him to take over Waystar Royco.
Armstrong made an appearance at an event hosted by the Financial Times in London where he was confronted with the question about what that note meant.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong once and for all settled a major debate from its fourth and final season.
In the fourth episode of the Emmy-winning series, titled “Honeymoon States,” family and friends of the Roys gather in Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) home to mourn the death of the family patriarch. During the wake, Frank (Peter Friedman), who is the executor of Logan’s estate, finds a “rather worrying piece of paper” in a private safe.
The typed document seemed to name Kendall (Jeremy Strong) as Logan’s successor to media empire Waystar Royco. But a line that started underneath Kendall’s name and moved up through it raised the question of whether Logan was noting him as the successor by underlining his name or crossing it out as if to say he didn’t want Kendall at the helm.

One of the crucial questions that came out of the final season of “Succession” was whether or not Logan Roy truly intended to leave his media empire in the hands of his oldest son, Kendall. Now the show’s creator, Jesse Armstrong, has definitively solved one piece of the puzzle.
While speaking at the Financial Times Weekend Festival, Armstrong affirmed that Logan underlined his son’s name on a piece of paper found in his safe after his death — as opposed to having crossed his name out.

This article contains spoilers for "Succession" season 4.
Just when "Succession" fans thought that business mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox) was done torturing his children (on account of being dead), he reached out from beyond the grave to flick one last barb into his hapless would-be heir, Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong). The fourth season of the acclaimed HBO series shocked fans by killing off Cox's viciously scheming patriarch early on, with the remaining "Succession" episodes fixed on the question of how Logan's empire would be carved up, and who would serve as CEO while the carving took place.
There were plenty of contenders, but Kendall arguably had the strongest claim as he'd been primed to take over Waystar Royco before he and his father embarked on a fun game of betrayal-tag over the course of several seasons. Then, during a wake held at Logan's New York apartment, it emerged that...

When “Succession” director Andrij Parekh heard what show creator Jesse Armstrong had planned for the final season’s eighth episode, “America Decides,” he admitted to being “terrified” due to the logistics involved in creating a full-blown presidential election. For the show’s acclaimed production designer, Stephen H. Carter, the “fear was that we wouldn’t be able to pull off the scale of that in a single episode.”
Carter – a four-time Emmy nominee who was once again nominated for “Succession” this year thanks to “America Decides” – reveals to Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview that the research process that went into creating the Atn newsroom started maybe a month before the crew even had a finished script. “It was looking pretty challenging,” he says. “We pitched a control room connected to a studio set, with some hallways in between, you know, things like that. Perhaps Sarah Snook's finest moment in all of "Succession" is her performance in that climactic scene in the series finale, where Shiv changes her mind and decides to vote against Kendall. There are a million potential reasons why Shiv shivved her brother in the end — was it out of jealousy, self-preservation, a sense of justice, a desire to save her marriage, a genuine belief that Kendall wasn't up for the job, or something else entirely? Snook leaves it to the viewer to decide. I personally choose to believe she was motivated by her love for Tom; for me, Shiv screwing over Kendall is the "Succession" equivalent of Rachel rushing off the plane in the "Friends" finale.
In addition to Snook's performance, what makes this scene work so well is the fact that Shiv hasn't quite made up her mind yet at the start of it. If Kendall had handled...

One of the cruelest hours of television was released in May of 2023, and it came in the form of the "Succession" series finale. After five addicting years, the Roy family was finally going to get the answer to who would succeed patriarch Logan Roy at conservative media conglomerate, Waystar Royco. During the final season, the Roy siblings of Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook), and Roman (Kieran Culkin) made a pact to all vote in favor of Kendall, but when the time came to publicly vocalize their allegiance, Shiv had a change of heart, and voted "no." The aftermath of her decision was explosive, causing Kendall to have a full-blown screaming meltdown and sparking a physical attack against Roman.

I've never been a fan of asking "what happens next" at the end of a movie or television show. If the director and the writers have done their job, the story worth telling is over. Everything I need to know about these characters and ponder about the narrative's themes has been relayed. All that's left to do is interpret what's been presented. That should be more than enough to chew on.
Alas, we live in an era of fan fiction where people would rather speculate than wrestle with what is hopefully a rich, challenging text. This is nothing new. For over 50 years, people have been wondering what happens to Benjamin and Elaine after they ride off in the bus at the end of "The Graduate." I've always liked screenwriter Buck Henry's answer. And when we do get sequels to great movies and series, the answers aren't always comforting or...

A guy who bears an uncanny resemblance to Bad Bunny and the impulse to exploit it reportedly sparked chaos at California’s Orange County Fair.
According to Complex, the unidentified imposter was spotted wearing Bad Bunny’s distinctive “un x100to” nose ring while imitating his fashion sense cargo-style bucket hat with a matching button-down shirt and sunglasses.
To complete the illusion, he was accompanied by faux bodyguards, leading fair attendees convinced that the Latin superstar was in their midst.

The messy showdown in the series finale of “Succession” between the Roy siblings as they jockeyed for the final grab of power over their late father’s empire was almost even more physical.
In a new interview with Variety, Sarah Snook (Shiv Roy) talked about how the boardroom fight scene involving Shiv, Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) was scripted a bit differently. Method actor Strong also originally did not want to rehearse the scene at all. However, due to Snook’s pregnancy at the time, rehearsal was integrated and the physical aspects of the fracas were toned down.
“Originally, it was meant to be more between Shiv and Kendall who are fighting — potentially pulling a phone out, and throwing it at Kendall, and having it escalate like that. We had a choreography rehearsal between Jeremy and I,” Snook said. “And then on the day, I felt good about...

Three-time Emmy Award nominee and 2023 Best Drama Actress front-runner Sarah Snook is finally opening up about the final episode of “Succession.”
Speaking to Variety in an interview published Wednesday but conducted before the Screen Actors Guild went on strike, Snook revealed she watched the final episode at her home in Australia alongside her mother, stepfather, sister, and her husband, Dave Lawson, and the couple’s newborn child. Snook said she cried throughout the final episode, “With Open Eyes,” “because I was sad for Shiv.”
In the finale, Shiv is once again passed over for the Waystar Royco CEO position due to her failed alliance with GoJo boss Lukas Matsson (Emmy nominee Alexander Skarsgard). As a result, Shiv forms an uneasy troika with her brothers Kendall (Emmy nominee and past winner Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Emmy nominee Kieran Culkin). The “Succession” finale, much like the entire series, was full of cut-throat dynamics, shrewd business decisions and emotional turbulence.
As the show wrapped up earlier this year, Sarah Snook, 35, who brilliantly portrays the ambitious Shiv Roy, opened up in a post-finale interview with Variety, sharing her thoughts on the series’ epic conclusion.
The Australian actress, who recently gave birth to her first child, revealed how she unsuspectingly discovered the show’s ending while reading the script. “I was on my way to the table read, devouring the script in the car,” she recalled: “And by the time I finished, I realized, ‘That’s it. It’s done.'”

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “With Open Eyes,” the series finale of HBO’s “Succession,” now streaming on Max — and if you haven’t watched it, for God’s sake, please go do that.
Sarah Snook didn’t know that “Succession” was ending until she read the script for the Season 4 finale: She was on her way to the show’s last table read of the season when she figured it out. “I was quickly devouring it in the car on the way there,” Snook said during a pre-strike interview for the Aug. 2 cover of Variety. “And then by the time I finished, I arrived and was like, ‘That’s it. It’s done.’”
Matthew Macfadyen — who played Tom Wambsgans, the on-screen husband of Snook’s Shiv Roy — was more sanguine, interpreting the final image of Shiv and Tom as they pull out of Waystar Royco headquarters as open-ended.

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Nicholas Braun is entering the “Succession” episode “America Decides” as his 2023 Emmy Award submission for Best Drama Supporting Actor. “America Decides” aired on May 14, 2023, and is the eighth episode of the HBO drama’s fourth and final season.
“America Decides” takes place on the night of the United States Presidential Election where uncertainty over the voting results throws the Roy children into disarray over their own decidedly self-serving alliances. Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) tries to manage an increasingly chaotic newsroom, while Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) spar over the consequences of the result for themselves, the company and the country. Armstrong has cited the real-life 1960, 2000 and 2016 U.S. elections as inspirations for “America Decides.” The episode was written by series creator Jesse Armstrong and directed by Andrij Parekh.

The 2023 Best Drama Guest Actor Emmy lineup consists of a balanced mix of outside winners, past nominees, and total first-timers whose wide age range runs from 10 to 83. Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us”) has been leading the pack all season, but all six final contenders have more than reasonable claims to victory. This includes Murray Bartlett, whose own mention for the same “Last of Us” installment comes on the heels of his 2022 supporting triumph for “The White Lotus” and is coupled with another featured limited series bid for “Welcome to Chippendales.”
“The Last of Us” immediately follows “Succession” as the second show to ever concurrently receive four nominations in this category. Its other two went to Emmy newcomers Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Montreal Woodard, with the remaining slots being filled by returning “Succession” hopefuls James Cromwell and Arian Moayed.

Alan Ruck was ready to get in a workout when he found out he’d been nominated for an Emmy.
The actor tells Deadline that he answered a call from his manager, who himself was enjoying a vacation in Italy, as he drove to the gym. “So he started to tell me in an Italian accent,” Ruck joked.
This Emmy nomination is a career first for Ruck, who is being recognized for his role as Connor Roy in the final season of HBO’s Succession. His is one of 27 nominations that the show received on Wednesday morning — the highest of any show this year. That includes 14 acting nominations.
Ruck is joined in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category by Succession cast members Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen and Alexander Skarsgård. Macfadyen, who took home the trophy last year, was among the first to reach out to Ruck and congratulate him.

“Succession” is no stranger to the Emmys. A two-time Best Drama Series winner, the HBO show from creator Jesse Armstrong is gunning for a third win in the category for its fourth and final season, which concluded in May. But it could easily pick up a number of other Emmys along the way. On Wednesday, the show received a staggering 27 nominations, 14 of which were in the acting categories as it tied the acting nominations record it set last year. In doing so, the show made history as the first drama series to earn three nominations for Best Drama Actor in the same year.

It's been over a year since Bad Bunny released his fourth solo album, "Un Verano Sin Ti," an album dedicated to summer that features Caribbean sounds and breezy beach vibes, and yet it has continued to break records. Not only was it the first Spanish-language album to ever receive a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year - though it lost to Harry Styles's "Harry's House" - it's also broken numerous streaming records. Last year, it generated more than 4 billion US streams across several platforms, and it recently became the most streamed album in Spotify history.
While Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was already playing a significant role in pushing reggaetón and Latin trap forward, the success of "Un Verano Sin Ti" really speaks to the dominance Latin music is having in the mainstream. Spanish-language urbano music has gone global and it's not going away anytime soon.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “With Open Eyes,” the series finale of HBO’s “Succession,” now streaming on Max.
Connor Roy was interested in politics at an early age — but Alan Ruck isn’t convinced. “He can say anything he wants to say, but just because he was interested doesn’t mean he’s knowledgeable.”
Still, in his mid-50s, Connor’s interest is finally becoming a reality — with a catch. In the finale of HBO’s acclaimed drama “Succession,” from creator Jesse Armstrong, Ruck’s character is poised to become the next ambassador to Slovenia, provided that Jeryd Mencken actually becomes president. But his new wife Willa (Justine Lupe) drops a bombshell: She will be staying in New York (in Logan’s old apartment) while Connor carries out his duties abroad.
