Fernando joined Disney Latin America in 1998. Since 2023 serves as SVP, General Manager Media Networks Production, Distribution & Acquisition, The Walt Disney Company Latin America, and is in charge of managing the local productions of Star+ and Disney+, the company's subscription streaming services, the distribution of The Walt Disney Company's content, and collaborating with Diego Lerner, President of The Walt Disney Company Latin America, in the management of the Disney channels. Barbosa reports directly to Diego Lerner, and in his responsibilities for content distribution, he also reports to Justin Connolly, President Platform, The Walt Disney Company.
Previously, Barbosa served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Media Distribution Latin America, leading the television distribution business for The Walt Disney Company Latin America. In that position, he oversaw all commercial operations across multiple platforms for all Disney and non-Disney branded content, including Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm products, as well as ABC Studios and Freeform content. He was also involved in the development of the direct-to-consumer strategy and was responsible for the implementation of all Disney and non-Disney branded original local production initiatives throughout Latin America, the US Hispanic market, as well as some European territories.
He joined The Walt Disney Company in 1999 as Vice President of Programming Distribution. As a founding member of the executive team that formed the company's television office in Latin America, Barbosa has contributed to the growth of the business, achieving consistently improved performance in the region and spearheading the development of new television production initiatives.
Prior to joining Disney, Fernando created and led the Advertising Sales area at Discovery Networks Latin America, achieving remarkable revenue milestones and opening sales offices throughout the region. Prior to his experience in the entertainment industry, he held commercial and operations positions at Goldman Sachs.
Barbosa holds a Master's degree in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). In addition, he is a member of the Board of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (Grammy) and is a professional international boxing judge and boxing analyst for ESPN Knock Out.
