My buddy Phil Nugent, who writes for the Onion's A.V. Munger Road tries to head this off at the pass early on: The four teenagers at its center spend the majority of the film in a remote location where no one can get any bars (in fact, at one point a character leaves said location "because I remember getting bars a few miles back"). Chicago – Local writer/director Nicholas Smith, who set and shot his lauded indie horror flick “Munger Road” in St. Charles, Illinois, has some undeniable talent. I think his debut gets a little lost in the final act but there is a lot to like about this little movie for even those with no connection to its Chicago roots. You’re going to be deluged with options this Halloween season for your horror-loving time. Take a trip to “Munger Road.”
Rating: 3.5/5.0
“Munger Road” has a little bit of everything. The great Dann Gire is quoted on the back of the case comparing the film to “Blair Witch Project,” “Halloween” and “Psycho” and Smith compares it to “Jaws” in one of the mini-featurettes included on the DVD. A film with such varied influences often falls victim to cluttered ideas and a lack of tonal consistency. And so it’s remarkable how deftly...

It seems that many rural towns in close proximity to train tracks -- especially train trestles -- have similar ghost stories. Teenage boys typically use these tall tales to scare the bejesus out of their dates. (Who says that chivalry is dead? Oh, but just you wait until when -- on separate occasions -- each boyfriend counts to three and leaves his respective girlfriend in the dust in order to escape presumed danger.) Munger Road's ghost story states that a bus load of kids were killed while their bus was stalled at a train crossing. Ever since that fateful event, the kind ghosts of the deceased kids have pushed stalled vehicles off of those very same tracks. I can only assume that a lot of vehicles just happen to stall out at that very location, because that is exactly what happens to Corey (Trevor Morgan), Joe (Brooke Peoples), Scott...

Director/writer: Nicholas Smith. Cast: Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff, Trevor Morgan, Brooke Peoples, Hallock Beals, Lauren Storm and Art Fox. Munger Road is an indie production from first time director Nicholas Smith. The film follows four college students as they try to frighten themselves on or near Halloween. Much of the film takes place during nighttime and the film is effective in creating suspense. Munger Road is also an homage to John Carpenter's Halloween for a variety of reasons. The Halloween settings, escaped killer and a character of authority acting as both a narrator and an investigator make this film almost a direct homage to this earlier horror classic. The film's story begins with four college students: Corey (Trevor Morgan), Joe (Brooke Peoples), Scott (Hallock Beals) and Rachael (Lauren Storm). They are heading out on a double date to a local set of train tracks. It was here that a tragedy occurred.

If the thought of spooky ghost kids laying their spectral hands upon your car while it's settled over train tracks spooks you, believe me when I tell you that you're not alone. Munger Road is one of Illinois' most haunted places, and a new featurette has hit online to give you a look at the movie based upon the legend.
Coming to theatres on September 30th is Nicholas Smith's Munger Road starring Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff, Trevor Morgan, Brooke Peoples, Hallock Beals and Lauren Storm.
Details are scant at the moment, but we do know that the film centers on two small-town cops who begin a search for four teens who go missing the night before the town's annual Scarecrow Festival.
A popular Munger Road tale says at one time a school bus filled with children stalled on the train tracks was hit by a train, which killed everyone inside.

No sooner do we get tired of thumbing through the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue than Maxim gets temperatures rising with their annual Hot 100 issue. Coming to newsstands next week, we learn that model turned actress Rosie Huntington-Whitely has been crowed the top hot babe. She displaces Megan Fox, who tumbles to #17, in this summer’s not-eagerly-awaited Transformers: Dark of the Moon and has become the new It girl (at least this month). Huntingon-Whiteley tells Maxim that being named number one “is a huge honor. It’s a great title to have for a year and you can have some fun with it, I think.”
The 100 is listed below and since hotness is in the eye of the beholder, we will all have our quibbles with the order, inclusion or absence of our personal favorites. Me, I have issues with many in the top 10 alone.

For the longest time, I couldn’t tell Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester, the stars of “The Roommate” apart. I always knew one of them was a blonde and the other was a brunette, but honestly? If they dyed their hair the same color, I would be totally lost. All that is to say, here are two more clips and a snazzy little featurette for the upcoming “Swf” clone. I bet you teenagers out there have never even heard of the original “Single White Female”, huh? Sheesh. Teenagers nowadays. Get off my lawn! Ahem. Teen-centric horror movie about a college student (“Friday Night Light’s” Minka Kelly) who finds her safety jeopardized after she’s assigned to a dorm room with a new, mentally disturbed roommate (“Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester). Starring Alyson Michalka, Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet, Minka Kelly, Matt Lanter, Danneel Harris, Billy Zane, Katerina Graham, Frances Fisher,...

I think “The Roommate” technically qualifies as a horror movie, though I doubt if you’ll be grabbing onto your theater seat armrests while watching it. Of course, if you’re watching it with a gal, you can use that as an excuse to grab her arm, but then she might think you’re a wimp and look at you with disdain, or scream rape. Either/or, the outcome is usually not so hot for the rest of the night. Anyways, here’s a new clip from the movie, showing off Leighton Meester’s crazy stalker character as she does crazy and stalker-ish things at a gas station. Haven’t seen a lot of advertising for the film yet, but I’m guessing it’ll be all over MTV and the CW by next week ahead of its opening day. Starring Alyson Michalka, Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet, Minka Kelly, Matt Lanter,...

Screen Gems, the distributor for The Roommate, has unveiled two new television spots for this fatalistic, little film. The two new spots are called "Become You" and the "Only One." Each are about thirty seconds long and the first reel is much more mysterious than the second. So choose which to watch wisely, as one spoils some of the events from this film.
The Roommate is rated PG-13 and this film will shock in theatres February 4th. This film is also displaying some new poster art, which asks: "2,000 colleges. 8 million roommates. Which one will you get?" This is why this reviewer refuses dormitories, as you never now what person you might be rooming with. Digg on both clips below.
The film's synopsis:
"A psychological thriller about a deranged college freshman (Leighton Meester) who becomes obsessed with her new roommate (Minka Kelly)" (Roommate).
Release Date: February 4th (Theatrical).

The Los Angeles Mission will make a difference for the homeless this Easter – with a little help from celebrity friends.
The Mission will serve 3,000 meals, provide Easter baskets with toys for children, and wash the feet of the homeless on Good Friday. Why feet washing? Easter Week foot washing is a Christian tradition – memorializing that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples the night before he was crucified. Many who are on the streets seldom have normal loving human contact – and this outreach of food, foot washing with podiatric care and new shoes is a way of inviting them to learn about the Mission’s services, including its long term program of restoration – in order to get off the streets permanently. The Los Angeles Christian Health Center uses this opportunity to address the foot problems suffered by many on the streets of Skid Row.

I Love You, Beth Cooper
Directed by: Chris Columbus
Cast: Paul Rust, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Carpenter, Lauren Storm, Lauren London
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: PG-13
Due Out: November 3, 2009
Plot: A geeky valedictorian (Rust) gets the cojones to tell the most popular girl in school (Panettiere) that he has always loved her. What follows is a night they’ll never forget.
Who’S It For? Enjoying Hayden Panettiere would help when trying to watch this movie. This is the type of high school movie for those who thought John Tucker Must Die deserved a less brutal fate.
Movie:
It is a feat for a film to make its title character so undesirable, but Beth Cooper doesn’t seem to have much difficulty in doing a lot of things wrong. The film is very set on how we should feel about Hayden Panettiere’s character – she’s a goddess on earth,...

Rating: 1.0/5.0 Chicago – In what could be the worst mainstream release of the summer, “I Love You, Beth Cooper” wastes talent, production values and ultimately time in a cliché-ridden mess that produces little or no real love.
What begins as a promising premise – the nerdy high school valedictorian, Denis (played by a dull, smirking Paul Rust), breaks bad at his graduation speech and proclaims his love for unattainable cheerleader Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere, who also plays the cheerleader on TV’s “Heroes”) – devolves into humorless story impossibilities.
‘I Love You Beth Cooper’ opens everywhere Friday, July 10th, and stars Paul Rust, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Carpenter and Alan Ruck, directed by Chris Columbus. Check local theaters for showtimes.

My friend and confidant, the roving radio guy Kevin Finnerty is well known for making some pretty hilarious comments during films. For instance during one film he shouted midway through “I want to leave.” Another time, when a film was dragging terribly, he said “Oh, let it end.” Sometimes his thoughts are summed up by a simple “Ugh,” or “oh boy.” He even interacts with the characters on screen like when one asks “Do you still love me?” Kevin will reply “No.” Given the right (or wrong) film, Kevin can make the experience somewhat enjoyable. What does this have to do with I Love You, Beth Cooper? Quite simply, Kevin was the funniest part of this complete waste of time, money, and film.

If Head of the Class had a drunken tryst with Saved by the Bell while thinking of John Hughes, then Chris Columbus’ I Love You, Beth Cooper would be its Damien. Unfunny in just about every area, from slapstick shenanigans to cartoonish characterizations, Beth Cooper makes other paint-by-horny teenage comedies seem iconic and fresh (I’m looking at you, Can’t Hardly Wait).
Based on the novel by Larry Doyle which won the Thurber Prize for American Humor in 2008, I Love You, Beth Cooper faces the odd disconnect of “what’s funny on paper sometimes isn’t funny at all on-screen.” Featuring a menagerie of characters that are plucked directly out of Bayside High School, our graduating students of Buffalo Grove High School are about to embark on bettering themselves through higher education, parties and riding in hatchbacks. Denis Cooverman (Paul Rust) is everything you would expect from a well-read fan of science-fiction.

I Love You, Beth Cooper
Directed by: Chris Columbus
Cast: Paul Rust, Hayden Panettiere, Jack T. Carpenter, Lauren Storm
Running Time: 1 hr 41 mins.
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: June 10, 2009
Plot: Super-nerd valedictorian (Rust) proclaims his love for the hottest girl in school, Beth Cooper (Panettiere), during his graduation speech. That night, Beth shows up at his door and takes him out for the night of his life. Based on the novel by Larry Doyle.
Who’s It For? Normally I would say this is all about the teenage crowd, but even they should have enough taste to avoid this. The only ones I can’t stop are those with huge Panettiere crushes.
Expectations: A little fun high school humor never hurt anyone. If I give it a second of thought, I’m not a Panettiere fan. I’ve seen every episode of “Heroes” and after the last one, I finally stopped.

The players: Director: Chris Columbus, Writer: Larry Doyle, Cast: Hayden Panettiere, Paul Rust, Lauren Storm, Jack T. Carpenter
Facts of interest: Based on Larry Doyle's book.
The plot: A high school's hottest chick shows a nerd the best time of his life after he publicly declares his love for her.
Our thoughts: Chris Columbus goes all raunchy on us in his latest comedy “I Love You, Beth Cooper,” an occasionally amusing film that lacks big laughs and surprises but can still be fairly enjoyable to watch. Columbus is a well-known filmmaker with some high-profile titles under his belt, but I don’t expect this one to pull large audiences.

Gbk Productions hosted a killer two-day vintage beach chic pool party before the 2009 MTV Movie Awards to honor the award nominees and presenters by pampering them with two full days of luxury. The event was held in the Hollywood Hills at a remarkable estate with breathtaking views of downtown Los Angeles. When you hear Gbk Productions, you think luxury, and for this MTV Movie party there was no detail left unturned; the Gbk beach balls in the pool were begging to be thrown, the car that drove celebrities up and down the steep driveway was a perfect touch for those who enjoy high heels, and the decorations inside the event were simple yet extremely elegant. Last week we took a journey through our red carpet experience at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards where we brought you exclusive interviews with Twilight star Michael Welch, The Hills mastermind Frankie Delgado, and Hellboy villain Luke Goss,...

Chris Columbus' comedy movie "I Love You, Beth Cooper" has got its first trailer. Opening up with a graduation ceremony scene, the trailer begins with a nerdy valedictorian, Denis Cooverman, pronouncing his love to the most popular girl in school, Beth Cooper. While the announcement comes in as a shock to many, his valiant effort gets the prize when Beth shows up at his door that very night.
But, the arrival of Beth to his house is only the beginning of his one adventurous night as Kevin, the man he offended when delivering his graduation speech, also pays him a visit with a very ill intention. Trying to escape Kevin, Denis, Beth and their friends fall into an adventure he would never dream of coming true.

After taking their movie all over the world, the High School Musical kids were back on their home turf to premiere the third and final installment of the franchise in La last night. It must be a bittersweet end for the cast who have grown close over the past few years, but rather than get nostalgic about their friendships, they were more interested in discussing what to get Zac for his 21st birthday tomorrow. After creating a fans frenzy in London ten days prior, Walt Disney Pictures present another premiere event for their much-awaited movie "High School Musical 3: Senior Year". Setting a Los Angeles premiere for the flick, the mouse house rolled down red carpet in front of Galen Center at the University of Southern California on Thursday, October 16.
Up for a night of celebration, the "HSM 3" cast attending the event came in style. The now-brunette Ashley Tisdale walked in wearing a plunging v-cut gown with teardrop earrings, while her co-star Vanessa Hudgens was dressed in a sleeved white thigh-length dress with heels and a Celtic cross around her neck. Zac Efron, on the other hand, turned heads with his John Varvatos black tuxedo, a white buttondown shirt and a pair of Varvatos loafers.
Joining the three lead actors were director/executive producer Kenny Ortega and cast members Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Olesya Rulin and Kaycee Stroh.
