Alfonso Cuaron claimed the coveted Golden Lion at the 75th Venice International Film Festival for his much-lauded "Roma," a semi-biographical black-and-white neo-realist depiction of middle-class Mexico in the '70s. He previously launched "Gravity" at the same event in 2013, which would win seven Academy Awards.

What made this year's moment extra-sweet was that jury president and buddy Guillermo del Toro handed him the honor. Last year, del Toro was the one who roared his way to a Golden Lion with "The Shape of Water," which would also end up with a Best Picture Oscar. Similarly, Alejandro G. Inarritu who together with the other two directors are known in Hollywood as the Three Amigos showed his "Birdman" in Venice in 2014, and would go on to Best Picture glory as well even if he doesn't have his own Golden Lion yet. Perhaps "Roma" will follow suit, especially if Netflix considers a theatrical run.

I still don't know quite how I feel about Quentin Dupieux's horror/comedy film 'Rubber'. Yes, it's about a killer tire. I haven't seen it yet, so the jury is still out. Though from the trailer (below), it looks to be pretty bitchin'.

I am certainly feeling a tingling sense of hope as I view the new poster for the flick. Bloody Corpses? Hell yeah. You can't go wrong with an illustration that features carnage like that. You can see it below.

The movie is available via some VOD cable carriers and will be released in select theaters on br April 1st. Go 'Rubber' go!

Directed by Quentin Dupieux, Rubber revolves around a tyre, Robert, who, for some unknown reason, wakes up to discover he possesses destructive telepathic powers. Robert subsequently embarks on a killing spree in a nearby desert town.

The story behind the adaptation of Ayn Rand's classic novel Atlas Shrugged into a feature film is a very interesting one, and I honestly didn't think it would end up being a good film. But today the first trailer for the film has been released for part one of the saga, and it looks like they aren't going to pull off an epic adaptation that this story deserves, bt there's a lot of effort behind it.

Oliver Hirschbeigal was behind the lens for the original with Mario Giordano having written both the screenplay and the novel it was based on, The Black Box. Filming has now started for 5 weeks on the $5 million big screen adaptation of author Ayn Rand's 1957 novel "Atlas Shrugged".

Shooting in Los Angeles, "Atlas Shrugged Part One" is directed by Paul Johansson from a script by Patrick O'Toole, for producers John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow.

The book explores a dystopian United States where leading innovators, ranging from industrialists to artists, refuse to be exploited by society. Protagonist, 'Dagny Taggart', sees society collapse around her as the government increasingly asserts control over all industry, while society's most productive citizens, led by the mysterious 'John Galt', progressively drop out. Galt describes the strike as "stopping the motor of the world" by withdrawing the "minds" that drive society's growth and productivity; with their strike these creative minds hope to demonstrate that the economy and society would collapse without the profit motive and the efforts of the rational and productive.

Paul Johansson ("One Tree Hill"), Taylor Schilling ("Mercy") and Grant Bowler ("True Blood") have been cast as John Galt, Dagny Taggart and Hank Reardon respectively in the independently-produced film adaptation of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" reports Variety.

Producer John Aglialoro had to get production going on this film adaptation of one of literature's most famous works by this past Saturday or lose the feature rights. Well he met the date, with the $5 million-budget "Atlas Shrugged Part One" kicking off its five week shoot over the weekend with Paul Johansson directing from Brian Patrick O'Toole's script.

The project has dwelt in development hell for decades until this year when Aglialoro quickly decided to make the film on his own without any studio backing. As a result, the cast is essentially made up of mostly unknowns including those three above.

The movie started shooting over the weekend, which is a surprise because last we heard there was no official word on who was attached to star in or direct it. The only thing we really knew what that producer John Aglialoro was going to get the film into production and in front of cameras no matter what.

Atlas Shrugged begins principal photography We reported last month that an adaptation of a 1957 novel was gearing up to start shooting despite no cast members announced and now it seems the film has started shooting and we also know who's starring in the film. Variety is reporting that Atlas Shrugged started shooting over the weekend. It was also said that if the film wasn't in production by Saturday, they would have lost the rights to the Ayn Rand adaptation.

Paul Johansson will be directing the film based on the adapted script by Brian Patrick O'Toole. Johansson will also act in the film as well, portraying John Galt, with Taylor Schilling starring in the lead role of Dagny Taggart and Grant Bowler portraying Henry Reardon.

The rest of the cast includes Michael Lerner as Wesley Mouch, director Nick Cassavetes in an on-screen role as Richard McNamara, Matthew Marsdan as James Taggart...

A few weeks ago we posted the trailer to one of the most unusual movies we’ve covered on Collider: Rubber. While most movies feature a person as the protagonist, Rubber is the story of a murderous tire with telepathic powers. The film premiered a few days ago at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews, but that hasn’t stopped Magnet Releasing from picking up the Us rights.
