Broadway veteran Cheyenne Jackson was ready to take another break from musical theater as he had done once before. That is until he got an offer he couldn’t refuse.
“Oh, Mary!” director Sam Pinkleton wanted him for a starring role in a revival of the Tony Award-winning musical “La Cage aux Folles” at the Pasadena Playhouse.
“I had made the decision — about a week prior to getting the call from Sam — that I was going to take a long sabbatical from musical theater again,” says Jackson, also known by TV fans for his work on “Doctor Odyssey,” “Call Me Kat,” “American Horror Story” and “30 Rock.” “I had taken about a 10-year break before, and I was feeling like, ‘Ok, I’ve scratched that itch a lot.’ I just did ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ and ‘Into the Woods’ and I was done. I want to focus on writing. I...

What makes a film "bad?" Well, for starters, these kinds of movies fail to have any redeemable qualities or their flaws prominently outweigh everything they have to offer. In fact, some legendarily bad movies are widely known because they're so terrible. I'm talking about the likes of Tommy Wiseau's "The Room" or 2010's "Birdemic: Shock and Terror." However, movies in this vein still offer something meaningful despite their nonsensical nature, as there's fun to be had with an egregiously bad premise. For example, a franchise like "Sharknado" induces plenty of unintended laughs, where the escalating events are so baffling and cringe-worthy that the films become an outlet for mindless entertainment.
But what about a movie that is insufferably, irredeemably bad? As in, so bad it's currently the lowest-rated film on IMDb with a rating of 1.9 out of 10? If you've never heard of 2008's "Disaster Movie," you're probably better off not knowing,...

Martin Lawrence is returning for a sequel to his 1999 action comedy Blue Streak.
In what might just be the most out of left field sequel news we’ve reported this year, Martin Lawrence police comedy Blue Streak is getting a follow up, 25 years after the original.
Deadline has revealed that a sequel is in development at Sony. Lawrence is onboard as star and a producer through his company Run Tel Dat. The script has been written by Cole Maliska, but there’s currently no word on who might direct.
If you need a refresher, the original Blue Streak was inspired by, of all things, the 1965 Sid James and Dick Emery film The Big Job. It saw Lawrence play Miles, a jewel thief who disguises himself as a policeman in order to steal diamonds, but ends up being partnered with actual cop, Detective Carlson, played by Luke Wilson. Shenanigans ensue, and...

Martin Lawrence is set to develop a sequel to the 1999 film Blue Streak, which had come on the heels of his success with Michael Bay's Bad Boys. The original film, which co-starred Luke Wilson, Dave Chappelle, Peter Greene, Nicole Parker, John Hawkes, Octavia Spencer, Nicole Ari Parker, and William Forsythe, followed a jewel thief who attempts to retrieve a diamond he left behind at a police station, eventually pretending to be an officer, only to inadvertently get partnered with a real detective. Blue Streak has generally been considered a fan-favorite among Lawrence's filmography.
Now, a quarter of a century later, Deadline reports that a Blue Streak sequel is in early development through Lawrence's production company Run Tel Dat, with Cole Maliska currently writing the screenplay. Alongside Lawrence, who is both starring and producing, the sequel is set to be produced by the actor's siblings, Robert Lawrence and Rae Proctor,...

Power Rangers defined the 1990s children's television scene. Although the series initially faced pushback regarding its depiction of violence, it soon became one of the highest-rated TV shows. After the success of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise grew to include action figures and films. It also became a staple of the American tokusatsu, giving the genre a more international presence outside Japan.
Many TV shows drew on the franchise's essential elements to capitalize on the growing new genre and its success. While many companies wanted to imitate the American tokusatsu classic, the most successful adaptations were those by Saban Entertainment. This company gave Power Rangers its success and gave way to new series that further experimented with the genre.

Kristen Bell led the star-studded opening night of the 25th-anniversary revival of Reefer Madness: The Musical, clad in a navy-blue slip dress that accentuated her enviable physique.

Narrowing down the best movies in any genre is tough, but for lesbian films you have to begin with a reductive question: What is a lesbian film? What, in fact, is a lesbian?.
Must the film focus primarily on a gay storyline, or can it feature strong lesbian characters doing something entirely different than just being lesbians? Is subtext enough, or must the sapphic be explicit? How much cinephile wrath will rain down on us for the absence of a certain recent Oscar winner?
Compared to the stand-outs of queer television, the best lesbian movies have relatively little time to convey their perspective on the vast, varied, (sometimes) vaginal lesbian experience. And yet, ultimately, the best lesbian films honor not just their own perspectives, but also the glory and traditions of all of queer cinema. Strong women, high entertainment value, and bold visuals reign supreme.

Hard to believe, but it's been 9 years since MadTV went off the air. If you've been missing the crazy antics of this hugely popular sketch comedy series that ran for an amazing 14 seasons, you can dry those tears. The CW is planning a MadTV Revival with one major change. It's going to be a prime time series this time out.
In 1995, MadTV was envisioned as an alternative to Saturday Night Live, airing a half hour earlier as part of Fox's Saturday night line-up. The show is coming back for 8 hour-long episodes on The CW. Executive producer of the original MadTV, David E. Salzman is returning as showrunner. The show will be produced by Telepictures.
The MadTV Revival won't stray to far from its original format. It will continue to skewer pop culture, offering parodies of all the latest movies, TV shows, and big social media moments just like its Magazine namesake.

Tonight marks the final original episode of MADtv, at least on Fox. The network cancelled the show last December after 14 years on the air but that doesn't mean that the troupe is leaving gracefully.
The oft-ignored late-night comedy show has been a staple of some Saturday night rituals for nearly a generation. Current cast members include Crista Flanagan, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Lee, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Johnny Sanchez, Erica Ash, Eric Price, Lauren Pritchard, and Matt Braunger.
This evening's swan song brings back alumni Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Will Sasso, and Debra Wilson Skelton, and also features comic actor Fred Willard and stand-up comedian Artie Lang. In the spoof of American Idol's fundraising efforts, Willard hosts a telethon called "MADtv Gives Back."
Executive producer David Salzman tells the Daily News, "We tried to come up with a finale that is in keeping with MADtv's irreverent and un-self-serving way of doing things.

With the long-running pop culture parody show set to end on May 16th, the jokers over at MADtv are going all out to make the final episodes worthy of the show's 14 year history.
As you may recall, Fox announced that they were pulling the plug on the sketch-comedy series back in November. The timing of the news gave the cast and crew time to craft some final episodes. The current cast includes Erica Ash, Matt Braunger, Crista Flanagan, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Lee, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Eric Price, Lauren Pritchard, and Johnny Sanchez.
Heading in to the finale, upcoming episodes are looking back on some of MADtv's crazier sketches and moments.
Tonight's episode will spotlight the popular Coach Hines (Keegan-Michael Key) character as he bids farewell to his favorite punching bag students, Yamanashi (Lee) and Jericho (Braunger). Also, Lee once again tries to win the heart of fellow player Flanagan.

After 14 years on the air, Fox is pulling the plug on its late-night Saturday TV show, MADtv. Though the sketch series has had a very respectable run on the network, producers aren't ready to give up on the show just yet.
Fox's answer to NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL), MADtv began airing on October 14, 1995. The show features topical sketch comedy as well as popular musical performances. Taking its initial inspiration from the long-running Mad magazine, the series' material includes movie and TV show parodies, music video spoofs and, early on, animated Spy vs Spy segments.

The players: Director: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer, Writers: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer, Cast: Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Gary "G-Thang" Johnson, Nicole Parker, Crista Flanagan, Carmen Electra, Kimberly Kardashian
Facts of interest: None whatsoever.
The plot: A group of idiots struggle to survive a series of natural disasters, including twisters, asteroids and earthquakes.
Our quick thoughts: If “Disaster Movie” is currently topping one chart, it’s IMDb’s Bottom 100 list. I honestly don’t know what we did wrong to deserve this, but Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer decided to punish us yet again with another one of their stupid spoofs that not many people out there want to see.
Then again, the sad truth is that there are still plenty of people out there getting a kick out of this crap. Anyway, this time the plot centers on a group of idiots struggling to survive as the world comes to an end.

Nicole Parker didn't realize starring in Disaster Movie would ruin her career... She knows now.
Photo: Lionsgate I am starting to think the RopeofSilicon Oracle is throwing darts at a board. I will give him last week because it was a close one and Death Race disappointed slightly and House Bunny did better than many thought, but if current estimates hold out Laremy's pick for #1 will end up at ... (drum roll) ... #7. Gasp and shock and pick me up off the floor. Okay, it's not that big of a deal, but I think it has been four weeks since he got the #1 slot right including this week. Wanna know what film that was? Let's take a peek... First off, Babylon A.D. has performed well despite all the trouble surrounding the picture including problems on set, in the editing room, lack of publicity and a director that seemed to want to sabotage his own film.

Disaster Movie Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and Nick Lachey’s girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo are two of the stars of the new parody film Disaster Movie. If that’s a selling point for you and you go, then you deserve that you get. The directing/writing team of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who made a name for themselves with Scary Movie, has slapped together what I can only assume is another cheaply made ripoff. I hadn’t really seen any of their quickie parodies since Scary Movie. Not that I was a snob, but I figured the stakes weren’t all that high and if you went, you knew what you were going to see anyway: a lot of throwaway hit-or-miss jokes and maybe a handful of chuckles. So I didn’t really think I’d like Disaster Movie when I volunteered to review it. I could tell from...

Lionsgate Films have unleashed a new clip promoting their forthcoming spoof comedy movie "Disaster Movie". Entitled "Curve the Bullet", the video footage is introduced by one of its stars, Carmen Electra, and generally parodying a signature scene of Timur Bekmambetov's hit action film "Wanted (2008)".
The particular scene then lampooned the moment when James McAvoy's character, Gibson, is told to curve the bullet shot out from his gun while Fox played by Angelina Jolie is standing in front of him. In the clip, it can be seen that Kim Kardashian and Electra's characters are encouraging Gary Johnson's Calvin to do the same. But, instead of being successful like Gibson, his curved bullet does an unimaginable thing.
