The ratings are in, and Super Bowl Xlvi just barely edged out last year’s game to rank as the most watched program in television history. Nearly 111.3 million people tuned in to watch the Giants vs. Patriots match-up and, subsequently, a whole lotta advertising. Last night we brought you a compilation of all the movie-related spots that ran during the game (including an extended version of The Avengers ad, which is fantastic), and today we’d like to bring your attention to the actual commercials. While most of us are looking for the cleverest or most laugh-inducing spot when judging these super-sized budgeted ads, quite a few notable filmmakers were actually behind many of last night’s spots. After the jump you’ll find a compilation of ads directed by Peter Berg, Todd Phillips, David Gordon Green, Craig Gillespie, Bobby Farrelly, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., Lance Acord, Joe Pytka, Jake Scott,...

This maybe a revelation to you, but Hollywood Studio PR people lie. In fact, all PR people lie. If you meet one, just remember they weren’t clever enough to be a politician, and that the clothes they are wearing are probably on credit. With that out of the way, let us address some of the language- the more facile of the tropes- that have become commonplace; phrases like “universal themes,” or “incredible journey,” or “Transformers meets Titanic”-Ok, I made that one up- the point being that platitudes and preposterous hyperbole are uniform in both the on and off record Hollywood machine.
We can, therefore, assume with some confidence, that more often than not these statements are either meaningless or bare such a tenuous relation to reality as to be fundamentally disingenuous.
So when- entirely off the record- Universal pictures describe their upcoming film Desperados as “a female The Hangover,...

Director Betty Thomas will be peeling herself away from a couple of CGI rodents and dipping herself back into live action with "Desperados." She'll be directing the Universal Pictures comedy with "Rango" actress Isla Fisher off the script written by Ellen Rapoport. Originally Wayne McClammy was said to be directing "Desperados" but jumped ship due to some creative differences (uh oh)."Desperados" centers on a woman (Fisher) who sends an indignant email to her new beau, who has gone silent after they have sex, only to discover he's comatose in a Mexican hospital. Panicking, she races south of the border with her friends in tow to intercept the email before he recovers.I really hope there's no ha-ha physical humor hijinks that goes along with this story. Producing the upcoming comedy is Jennifer Todd, Mark Gordon and Jason Blum. The last project that Thomas directed was "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

But now THR reports Betty Thomas, a woman who has helmed raunchy films like Private Parts to family films like Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel, will now direct the comedy. Trying to capitalize on another films success, the 2009 Black Listed screenplay is described as a female-oriented version of The Hangover. Betty Thomas is close to finalizing a dealt with Universal Pictures to direct their upcoming comedy Desperados, a starring vehicle for Isla Fisher. The project had viral video director Wayne McClammy on board, but he dropped out after having creative differences according to THR.
Desperados is written by Ellen Rapoport and has been described as a female version of The Hangover. It follows the story of "a woman who sends an indignant email to her new beau, who has gone silent after they have sex, only to discover he's comatose in a Mexican hospital. Panicking, she races south of the border with her friends in tow to intercept the email before he recovers."
Thomas got her start as an actor and then moved on to directing such films as Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, I Spy, Dr. Doolittle, Private Parts and The Brady Bunch Movie. This sounds like her coolest film to date.

A year ago we heard many female centered Hangover-style movies were in development. One was called “What Was I Thinking?” which has Leslie Mann and Elizabeth Banks attached. Now Betty Thomas is in negotiations to direct Universal’s comedy Desperados, which is being developed as a starring vehicle for Isla Fisher.

Last year Wayne McClammy, the director behind the video ‘I’m Fucking Matt Damon [1]‘ and star-studded rejoinder ‘I’m Fucking Ben Affleck [2]‘ that aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2008, was set to direct [3] Isla Fisher in Desperados, which is typically referred to as 'a female-oriented Hangover.' But something didn't work out, and he's now walking away from the film. 'Creative differences' is what the trades say. (Isla Fisher remains attached.) Likely stepping into the vacant director's position will be Betty Thomas, who last made...um...well, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. The Ellen Rapoport script for Desperados hit the Black List in 2009 [4]. Universal Studios' Desperados has Isla Fisher signed on to star, while Betty Thomas (Dr. Dolittle, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) is reportedly going to be offered the director's chair. The La Times is reporting that Universal is prepared to offer Thomas the helm for the feminine comedy flick. Sources familiar with the situation say that Thomas is planning to accept the offer. She will take the helm in place of Wayne McClammy, who was in negotiations prior to Thomas' consideration. The film is considered to be in the same vein as The Hangover, with an exception being the gender of the starring trio. THR has it that there.s been a director shake-up on Desperados, the Isla Fisher vehicle coming out of Universal. Betty Thomas, the director most recently behind Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, has stepped in to helm the film after fledgling director Wayne McClammy left due to creative differences. Maybe it.s just me and my weak morals, but if the only directing credits you have are shorts that appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and several episodes of the not-funny Sarah Silverman Program, maybe you--well, McClammy--should swallow your creative differences and just get a feature film under your belt. Just an opinion. Desperados was penned by young writer Ellen Rapoport, whose most significant contribution to Hollywood has been her 21 writing credits on the Jamie Kennedy Experiment. I think a name like Wayne McClammy destines you to be either a comedy director or a character on Spongebob Squarepants. McClammy chose the former, helming the viral Jimmy Kimmel Live segments "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" and "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck," a slew of Sarah Silverman Program episodes, and was in talks to make his feature debut with Desperados. It's always comes as a surprise to look back on some of the bottom-feeders on some of these Black Lists. In 2007, Oscar winner for Best Picture Slumdog Millionaire (Simon Beaufoy) had six votes, Robert Siegel's The Wrestler had five, an untitled Pharmaceutical script (later known as Love & other Drugs) by Charles Randolph would get four, with John Patrick Shanley's Doubt and Jon Lucas & Scott Moore's Hangover receiving three votes and Tony Gilroy's Duplicity receiving a pair. There's a chance you read that headline and said, "um, who?" Wayne McClammy is the director behind the videos 'I'm Fucking Matt Damon' and the star-studded rejoinder 'I'm Fucking Ben Affleck' that aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2008. (McClammy has also done directing chores on The Sarah Silverman Program and directed Silverman's The Great Schlep.) Now he's working out a deal to direct the film Desperadoes, the Ellen Rapoport Black List script called "a female-oriented The Hangover." THR says that the film is being developed around Isla Fisher, and that it is expected to start at the end of the year. When we covered the script as part of the 2009 Black List, we said that Desperadoes follows: Wesley Robbins, a 30-something single attorney with an unhealthy obsession with coupling up, thinks she’s found the perfect man. But when he doesn’t call for days after the first time they...

You may not have heard of the wonderfully monikered Wayne McClammy, but if you're remotely web-savvy and like hilarity, you've probably seen his work - making the news that he's set to direct Isla Fisher vehicle Desperados rather good news all around.McClammy's the director behind the brilliant I'm Fucking Matt Damon video from Sarah Silverman / Jimmy Kimmel / Matt Damon, and the I'm Fucking Ben Affleck riposte. On that evidence, we're happy to hear that he'll be directing the story of a woman who sends an outraged email to a guy who doesn't call her back after sex - only to learn that he's in a coma in New Mexico. Cue a cross-country chase to erase the email before he wakes up.Written by Ellen Rapoport, it's described as a "female-oriented version of The Hangover", the difference being that you're more likely to lose a friend on a night out...

I have tried to remain neutral, and not really have an opinion on Jennifer Aniston one way or another, but merely judge her films as she makes them. I want to believe that she's a good egg who has become a victim of tabloid storytelling. But I give up, because every romantic comedy she signs onto not only furthers her own stereotype of lonely and desperate singleton, but keeps the grand character tradition alive on the big screen too.
So, what's her latest salute to womankind? Variety says its CBS Films' Pumas. Penned by Melissa Stack and directed by Wayne McClammy, it "centers on two thirtysomething women who make a habit of romancing younger men and take a French skiing vacation that challenges their romantic expectations." On the upside, McClammy is the guy who directed Jimmy Kimmel's "I'm F**king Matt Damon" and follow-up "I'm F**king Ben Affleck.

There comes a time in an actress' career when she must face the marching of time. Winona played Spock's mom, and now Jennifer Aniston has signed on for Pumas, in which she'll play a thirtysomething with a jones for younger men. Why's it called Pumas, we wonder? Maybe Cougars was too un-pc.Whatever, we hope the funniest thing about this romcom is not the director's name. Wayne McClammy (no, really) will be helming Melissa Stack's script. McClammy is suddenly a hot property, after he came to public attention for co-writing and directing Sarah Silverman's clip about her "relationship" with Matt Damon (and its sequel) for the Jimmy Kimmel show. He's also lined up for the comedies Cool School, Le Car and Beat Kip. ...

Are Pumas the new cougars? Is Jennifer Aniston old? Is Wayne McClammy anyone you've ever heard of? Variety reports that a new romantic comedy from CBS Films will 1) be called Pumas, and 2) will star Jennifer Aniston. Aniston will play one of two women in their thirties who date younger men. In Pumas, the two friends (and maybe a couple of their lovers?) take a ski trip to the French Alps, where they no doubt learn something about their men, their selves, and the world at large. Awww. How boring-and-probably-ultimately-cute-and-sweet. Except for a few things I'm already taking issue with here. First of all, I don't think Jennifer Aniston is old or stocky enough to be likened to any predatorial feline, besides for maybe Michelle Pfeiffer's version of Catwoman. Maybe. Second, why did Variety highlight that Wayne McClammy is directing this movie? I don't care if he directed Citizen Kane (spoiler alert: he didn't), that name is...

Did the term "cougar" get copyrighted when I wasn't looking? For years it's been the accepted cat-related term for older women who like to date younger men; I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure it was even the name of a reality show. But when it comes time for the term to hit the big-time, becoming a movie, someone backed out, and named the thing Pumas instead. Even odder, they've gotten Jennifer Aniston to star in the film, a woman who has been painted by the tabloids alternately as a baby-hungry loner or, look at that, a cougar when dating younger men like John Mayer. According to Variety the director of this strange thing will be Wayne McClammy, whose name you don't know but whose work you most definitely recognize-- both "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" and "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck" bear his name.
