Yesterday became a lot more interesting around 3:30pm. I'd just returned from a quick trip to Babies 'R Us with my wife and daughter when I discovered an email from a producer at CNN. They asked me to call them Asap about a story they were planning for last night's edition of Anderson Cooper 360 aka AC360.
CNN was setting up a story about Richard McCroskey - aka "Syko Sam" - an aspiring horrorcore rapper that is accused of murdering four people in Farmville, Virginia last month. Our own Matt Molgaard (who also raps under the name InstantLegend) was interviewed by the Richmond Times-Dispatch about the case on September 24th. In response, Matt wrote a blog we briefly posted here on Fangoria.com, but pulled after we all agreed that in the interest of good taste and respect for the families, it was best not to draw further attention to "Sam.

While you're out stalking your favorite retailer of magazines and printed publications this week, not far from Fangoria #287 on the racks you'll find Tattoo Savage #104.
Sealed in a clear plastic bag, you might notice the top flap touting Fangoria's Tour Coverage, or the bold yellow text on the magazine cover stating Fangoria Freakfest! This is a tattoo magazine more horrifying than the norm...
As we close the books on one era (Weekend of Horrors) and open the books on a new one (Trinity Of Terrors - next month in Las Vegas!), Tattoo Savage presents a full spread featuring coverage of our Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City conventions from earlier this year. In addition to a 6-page full-color spread in the mag, this issue comes with a separate supplemental issue celebrating all things Fango!
Inside you'll find exclusive photos of your favorite genre stars including Hellraiser's Doug Bradley and Ashley Laurence,...

Vampires. Demons. Zombies. Werewolves. The Mob.
Fangoria Graphix' Death Walks The Streets series continues later this year with the release of Death Walks The Streets #2 (actually the third issue behind #0 and #1). For monster fans that like their supernatural tales to have a little more "bite", Dwts just might be the series you need to be reading.
Below the jump you can get the first details on the next installment, along with the cover reveal!
Death Walks The Streets #2 is once again written by Fango's own James Zahn along with Ben Brezinski. Pencils are once again being handled by Guilherme Balbi with cover colors by Javier Tartaglia (Marvel Adventures Iron-man, Savage She-hulk).
For those unfamiliar with the series, here's what Ain't It Cool News writer Mark L. Miller (aka Ambush Bug) said about the last issue:

In the vast ocean of metal, you’d be hard-pressed to find a musician as respected as Max Cavalera. After spending the better half of two decades as the frontman of Sepultura, the Brazilian guitarist/vocalist has been working almost non-stop since 1997 with his current band, Soulfly in addition to side projects including the Cavalera Conspiracy, reuniting with his brother Igor, former drummer of Sepultura.
With Soulfly set to embark on a U.S. tour later this month, the often-elusive Cavalera took time out from tour prep for a phone interview with Fangoria Musick to talk music, his love of horror (Coffin Joe!), and what the future holds for the band.
James Zahn/Fangoria: So you’re getting geared up for another tour here pretty soon.
Max Cavalera: Yep, we’re going back out on the road in a little more than two weeks.

This past Saturday, David and I attended Crue Fest 2, the sequel to last year’s celebration of metal bands and of course Motley Crue. We had been lucky enough to get interviews with Charm City Devils and Drowning Pool, plus we shot some great footage that hopefully will be cut and ready for the site soon (approval pending- explanation below).
We arrived at the venue (Nissan Pavilion) at 2pm. The skies looked ominously dark and seemed ready to burst at any moment. By the time I hunted down my “contact” and was heading toward the tour buses for our first interview with Charm City Devils, the skies were rumbling and explosively unleashed a downpour. Luckily, Charm City Devils were kind enough to offer us some paper towels to dry off.

It was a pretty bloody week here at Fangoria. Updates on Piranha 3-D, The Final Destination, and Halloween II fought for the headlines, but none of them came close to the online storm caused by Megan Fox and Jennifer's Body.

Ok, ok…so everyone and their brother are going to write about their experience this past weekend – oh and to clear it up – I am referring to our just-wrapped Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors – located in my great hometown of New York City!
I’ve blogged a few times but never was it about me me Me! So I have that right, don’t I?
Well, it all started when I was born – only kidding of course. It all started on Friday night which was a real bummer for me as I looked forward to the event All fucking week and then found out that the doors were not to open until 5pm. And to make matters worse, I had my short films scheduled at 6. Conflict right there and then. You see, I was lucky enough to (for lack of a better word) “anchor” the webcast and doing that is just...

On July 7th, Maryland's Clutch will release Strange Cousins From The West, their ninth studio album, and the first on their own label, Weathermaker Music. After almost 20 years, Clutch is one of the rare bands that has managed to maintain a loyal fanbase that has been there since the beginning, while gaining new listeners with each new record.
Fangoria Musick caught up with guitarist Tim Sult, one of the key players behind the distinctive Clutch sound, to discuss the new album, the band's change of business model, and to talk a little horror.
James Zahn (Fangoria): After being on numerous labels over the years (Atlantic, Eastwest, Earache, Drt) you guys are going out on your own with Weathermaker Music. I’ve seen the Clutch DVD (Full Fathom Five) that you recently released, and now Strange Cousins From The West will be the first full-length Clutch album released on your own label.

Currently on the road in the midst of the fourth Music As A Weapon Tour, David Draiman, frontman of Chicago's Disturbed, recently sat down with Fangoria Musick prior to a show to discuss music, film, and the horrors of real life and beyond.
James Zahn (Fangoria): When people hear the band Disturbed, I don’t think they necessarily associate you with the horror genre, but your latest album Indestructible is pretty dark in terms of subject matter, primarily with real-life horror…
David Draiman: There’s no doubt about that.
Fangoria: Your latest video for The Night has been released, and it seems to present “the night” as a kind of “creature”...
Draiman: Well, [Jason] Noble (director) presented us with a treatment for it that definitely fit the idea that we had for the song, which was the the night was it’s own kind of entity and it sort of takes you over,...

Like many of my fellow Fango Family bloggers, I've decided that it's time to talk about one of my other "crafts." Back when I blogged regularly on my MySpace page, I had a tradition of blogging about my various creative endeavors, especially the auditions that I'd have while wearing my "actor" hat. The fun ones to write about were usually "the one's that got away" (like the Larry the Cable Guy film Witless Protection), as they usually had a good story to go with them.
With that, I've decided to resurrect my tradition right here on my Fangoria.com blog.
Last year, long before I ever had a clue that I'd be working for Fango, I started receiving cryptic packages in the mail. All of them bore interesting symbols and codes, and it began with a letter that arrived on May 22, 2008. I had no idea what the letter meant, and...

Something is in the air in the state of New Jersey. No, not the usual putrid taste that stings the back of your throat, but headbanging metal invading ear drums, and putting it's foot up asses abound.
Fangoria Musick went down to the Starland Ballroom in Sayereville to check out the Twilight Of The Thunder God Tour, where we caught up with Amon Amarth frontman Johan Hegg (see his List Of Doom here), and also spoke with the boys in Lazarus A.D. (see our report from their album release party in Kenosha, Wi here). Both bands display their own style of metal, but bring a little bit something different to the table. Sweden's Amon Amarth convey heavy riffs mixed with melodic undertones that worked the crowd into a frenzy during "Guardians of Asgaard". Lazarus A.D. appeals to the old school thrash crowd, with nuances that bring to mind...

In a follow-up to Kiran Aditham’s Feature Story in Fangoria #283 (on-stands now), Fango caught up with Filmmaker Chris Fisher for some final thoughts on S. Darko, which arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray next Tuesday.
In the continuation of the world established by Richard Kelly in the 2001 cult favorite Donnie Darko, Fisher found himself treading in what many fans consider “sacred territory”.
James Zahn (Fangoria): So I have to ask, are you tired of talking about S. Darko yet?
Chris Fisher: You know, I’m not because I haven’t really done much press on it yet. We’re getting theatrical releases in most foreign markets like England, Germany, Italy, etc., and that’s all the really long-form stuff which is just getting started. Since this film unfortunately is going straight-to-dvd here, I’m just doing press for it. In fact, the main thing I’ve done is...

Imitation in the the film industry is certainly not a new thing. The "killer asteroid" craze with Armageddon and Deep Impact facing off in the summer of '98; the dueling "president's daughter" films Chasing Liberty and First Daughter in 2004; the recent "organ repo" phase with last year's Repo! The Genetic Opera, and the upcoming Reposession Mambo (due later this year) - it's often times a race to see who can get to the finish line first.
Sometimes, "imitation" is purely a business-related affair, driven by corporate shills with no motivation other than getting in on the action to make a grab at a pie they think that they're missing out on. Bitter because they didn't get there first, often times these said "imitators" resort to blatant "copying", perhaps to play "catch up", or perhaps because they have no original ideas of their own. While the film industry is a prime...

It's always a real treat when the Texas Chainsaw Massacre crew rolls into a Weekend of Horrors, and Los Angeles was no exception. Two of the most requested guests in our live chat were Caroline Williams (TCM 2) and Marilyn Burns (TCM 1974), so we had to invite them over to the Fangoria booth to catch up with Fango's Marla Newborn and James Zahn.
Both ladies shared their experiences and thoughts on the series (including the Platinum Dunes remake), and Williams also dropped some details on her upcoming appearance as Dr. Maple, in Rob Zombie's H2: Halloween 2.
*The interview begins about 1 minute into the video below.

Last weekend, visitors to Fangoria.com, along with our friends and followers on Twitter and MySpace got a window into the world of our Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors. Through our first-ever Live webcast from a Fango event, those that couldn't be there with us in-person were given the rare opportunity to chat Live with some of our favorite horror celebrities, unannounced surprise guests, and up-and-coming independent filmmakers.
While the weekend may be over, clips from the Live event are being made available as a part of our "archive stream", so everyone can re-live the experience.
The guest list for the webcast was immense, with a completely casual, and unscheduled approach, tying into the "You never know who might show up!" tagline. Among those who popped in: Toby Wilkins (Splinter, The Grudge 3), Mick Garris (Masters Of Horror), Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV, Repo!

Horror fiends were out in full force when the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors convention stormed the Los Angeles Convention Center this past weekend. As usual, Fango gave genre fans a lot to keep them busy over the three-day event.
Friday kicked off with panels on upcoming releases including Walking Distance, Pig Hunt, Grace, S. Darko, and Herschell Gordon Lewis’ return to directing, Grim Fairy Tale. For many fans the highlight of the night was the chance to see director Sam Raimi on stage discussing Drag Me to Hell, which heralds his return to his horror roots and pretty much gives all of us reason to celebrate these days. He didn't disappoint, nor did Justin Long, who kept pretty much everyone in stitches throughout. Additionally, Sam was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the end of the panel and was obviously quite genuinely touched by the gesture.

As Fangoria celebrates it’s 30th Anniversary this year, some longtime friends of the magazine are celebrating their own anniversary. On May 12th, Megaforce Records will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Fistful Of Metal, the 1984 debut from Anthrax. Rock and Horror are a match made in heaven hell, and few bands have quite the association with the genre (and Fangoria) as Anthrax.
As the special-edition release of their first album approaches, and with their first studio album in six years, Worship Music (their first with vocalist Dan Nelson) due out this Fall, Fango caught up with members of the band to talk music, and of course, talk horror.
In the first part of Fangoria Musick’s exclusive interviews, James Zahn talks with Anthrax guitarist and lyricist Scott Ian.

If you live in Tucson you are Far luckier than I. Firstly, James Zahn can’t drive to your home and torture you with images of Vicki from Small Wonder. Let me tell ya, that‘s a fuckin‘ nightmare unto itself. Secondly, the weather is a great deal better than my home in Miserable, Missouri (population 60k meth-heads and 1 large-mouthed asshole that writes about stuff), and third, you’re first in line for the sonic assault of Prong’s new tour. That’s right, Prong is back with a new album, and is going on the road for the ‘Worst of the Worst‘ tour. The first show is slated for May 9th at the Suicidal Metalfest in Tucson, with a follow up on the 10th in a local club whose name I have yet to find. Then, Tommy Victor and company are off to a twenty-five city tour in Europe.

When people ask me to ramble off the names of my favorite bands, there’s a few that I always mention. Faith No More. Helmet. Clutch. And Prong.
Prong first hit my radar in the early 1990’s. I was in high school, and MTV still played music. A weekend staple was always Headbangers Ball, and it was through that show that Prong first hit my ears during the era of their 1991 Epic Records release Prove You Wrong.
The music was powerful, heavy, yet uncluttered. The bass groove was infectious, the drums precise, and the guitar and vocals of front man Tommy Victor was the icing on the cake. Being a sophomore in High School at the time, I had my dad take me down to the local “CD Exchange” in search of the band’s earliest works.
After months of searching, I’d been able to go back to the beginning.

As a nice change of pace, I am finally reviewing an album without the threat of violent reprisal. This time around there was no James Zahn with a rubber hose looming over me, and no Doctor Raven throwing the CD case at me and running away. Recently on the Fangoria Musick MySpace page, a reader asked why we don’t cover hip-hop and rap. I thought that was a good question -there’s certainly enough gore and violence in rap to make it dark and edifying. Also, there are a few rap acts that I enjoy immensely, but they’re older and not adequate representations of what the genre is currently doing. By and large, modern rap -like country --makes my stomach turn with disgust and contempt. It seems like there really aren’t that many good rappers left, and of those that remain, most focus on materialism. Gone is the lyrical brilliance of N.

Ya know, I review a lot of albums. On average, I do two or three a day, and often times I don’t listen to them again for a while. When I say they’re great I do mean it, but with the torrential downpour of new music that seems to inundate my life, I don’t get back to them regularly. That said, I woke up this morning, head full of angry buzzing -as usual --and carefully unfettered myself from my sleeping beam. I’m using guitar strings now, the shoelaces I used before gave way and I fell, hitting my head on the floor. If you’ve read anything I’ve offered Fangoria, it should be obvious; I don’t need any more blows to the head. I’m already fucked up enough, thank you very-fucking-much Ann Margaret. If I sleep on a conventional surface it’s easier to steal my thoughts,...

The Monsters of Rock panel hosted by Fango's Scott Licina and James Zahn featured members of Fashion Bomb and Mushroomhead, as well as David Greathouse, who directed two recent videos for the band, in addition to designing their costumes, makeup, and props. This small army took the stage to answer questions.
Licina kicked it off with an absolutely fantastic music video from Mushroomhead (see it below) and then proceeded to hype up the crowd for that nights show. He didn’t have to do much. This was a group of people ready to rock and ready to ask lots of questions. When asked about the experience of working on Robert Kurtzman's The Rage, the members of Mh were enthusiastic in the extreme. When asked about their new, as-of-yet-untitled album, they took that enthusiasm and ran with it. But even in the midst of their joking around, the band refused to give away anything.

Hello, my name is Benny, and I’m an alcoholic.
Oh… wait, this isn‘t that kinda introduction. Let me start over.
Hello, my name is Benny Hell, and in addition to being an alcoholic, I’m an asshole. There is something seriously damaged in me. It guides me to music that no one seems to care about, and then it forces me to write things about it. I have a big mouth with a small filter on it, I open it and things just fall out like I’m freakin’ Linda Blair or something. Even though I have a Catholic apparel fetish (you should see me in the latex nun costume!), I’m a lot like that Devil materializing on your shoulder at the worst times possible. I whisper in your ear because I want you to get in trouble. I did, but the institution says I’m much better now.

Let me begin by saying that Best Buy is the surest proof of Satan’s existence I can think of, next to that charming synonym for cancer known as “Walmart.” Buying music there is like having sex with a plastic partner; you get off but don’t have any of the fun visceral stuff. Music stores should smell a little musty, be full of new and odd music you’ve never heard before but might gamble on, and have esoteric posters on the walls. The guys behind the counter… well, they should all be James Zahn. Best Buy is none of those things, but they do get a lot of special edition albums, and today I was after one with a vengeance. So, I jumped into my car, careful not to bump the peak of my Buck Satan on the sunroof, and braved their clear, clean aisles and brilliant florescent...

Since the mid-1990’s, Detroit has been the epicenter for a violent brand of music filled with big beats, distorted guitars, and peppered with lyrical tales of all things gruesome and horrific. One of the acts at the center of this movement is Twiztid, who’ve been consistently delivering new material since their official debut in 1998.
Despite the requisite subject matter, having two major-label albums in their catalog, and enlisting horror icons such as Reggie Bannister (Phantasm) to appear in their videos, Twiztid has remained largely off-the-radar for most horror fans.
With the release of their seventh studio album, W.I.C.K.E.D., Twiztid are looking to change that.
Fangoria caught up with Jamie Madrox, who along with Monoxide has been crafting Twiztid into a dark force worthy of it’s name for over a decade.

Ain't It Cool News has posted their weekly comic book reviews this morning, and Fangoria Graphix' Death Walks The Streets #1 made it into the pull. This marks the first review for the latest issue in the Dwts saga.
"The first two issues of this miniseries allowed the reader to get to know three would be crooks hoping to move up in the criminal underworld. They’ve got the skills to go far and a pretty good plan, but there’s something beneath the surface and just off in the periphery that oozes evil and the anticipation for the big satanic hoof to drop is palpable in this issue."
The new issue made it's public debut at the Chicago stop on our Weekend of Horrors Tour earlier this month, and will ship to those who pre-ordered it on March 23rd. Curious what else AICN had to say about it? Read the full review below,...

For the past fifteen years, Static-x has been delivering their crushing brand of industrial metal (self-dubbed "evil disco") to the masses. On March 17th, the band will release Cult Of Static, their sixth studio album, coming on the eve of the tenth anniversary of their platinum-selling debut, Wisconsin Death Trip. Last night, Fango caught up with bassist Tony Campos, who along with frontman Wayne Static, has been in the band since the beginning. What followed was a conversation about the band, their new album, and their long-running connections to the horror genre.
James Zahn: So you've got Cult Of Static being released almost 10 years to the date that Wisconsin Death Trip (released March 23, 1999) came out. How do you feel Static-x has evolved over the course of the past decade?
Tony Campos: It's weird, ya know? We did some experimenting on the third and fourth albums, and then went...

Once in awhile a creative force gains global cult status while forever remaining under the mainstream radar. This past weekend in Chicago, one such individual made a surprise appearance at our Weekend Of Horrors, instantly creating a buzz. Cannibal Holocaust director Ruggero Deodato was perhaps the first to take notice, but a looming question remains. Who is Caliente Amore, and why were horror icons lining up to take pictures with him? See the photos and video after the jump.

Between The Buried And Me - "Colors Live"
Release Date: 10/14/2008
Label: Victory Records
Format: DVD/CD
You've got to respect a band like Between the Buried and Me for doing what they do, and carving a niche far outside the norm. Seamlessly mixing hardcore, death metal, and melodic pop with the ability to turn on a dime, Btbam is by far one of the most polished acts currently skirting the mainstream. Their DVD set for Colors is beautifully shot, has a fantastic audio mix, and has spent more time in my player this year than almost anything else.

Last night VH1 crowned the winner of it's first Scream Queens series, with Tanedra Howard claiming the throne. Oddly enough, Ms. Howard has already started making the kind of statements that actors usually reserve for after they've built their careers on horror.
You know, the kind of statements that some feel the need to make after years of working in the horror genre... right after they do a couple of more mainstream films... not before they've first stepped foot on a film set.
When asked if she "was a fan" of the genre, Howard told VH1's Celebreality blog, "I wouldn’t say I’m a fan. I watch them, definitely. Child’s Play is my favorite horror movie of all time. I’m not a buff. I’ve seen people online whose names and MySpaces are all horror. Definitely not that deep."

On November 1st I received a phone call from a friend- "Have you heard the news about Mark Twitchell?" he asked. The name rang a bell, but at first I didn't know why. "Twitchell? Why do I know that name?" I said. He replied, "He's the director of Secrets Of The Rebellion."
For the purpose of this blog, and to keep negative attention away from my friend, I'm keeping his name out of this. You see, Mark Twitchell was charged with murder in a now infamous case of life imitating art.
Last year, my friend worked on Sotr, a fan film set in the world of George Lucas' Star Wars. This was to be one of those "high-end" fan films. It had a budget of around $60,000 , featuring a huge cast and crew, elaborate special FX, sets, the works. Twitchell, the director, was said to be using it as a "calling card" piece,...

The announcement that Fangoria was returning to comic books came as a bit of a surprise so we decided to go right to the source. Associate Editor Troy Brownfield chatted with us this week on the whys and wherefores.
ComicMix: Hey Troy, welcome to ComicMix.
Troy Brownfield: Thanks, Bob. It’s great of you to have us.
CMix: Fangoria Graphix failed last year and Scott blamed the lack of support from the magazine and website. Since it was all owned by Tom DeFeo, how’d that happen?
TB: Love the easy questions first, Bob. Let me first clarify a few things for everyone. Fangoria Comics never failed; Fangoria Comics was ended. How is that different? Well, Fangoria Comics was performing at a sustainable level in the Direct Market, at a terrific level in mass market bookstore chains, and very well at conventions. However, as anyone in comics knows, there is...

"Halloween has arrived in the City of New Marshall. Fallen leaves litter the ground as trick-or-treaters begin arriving on the doorsteps of almost every home. On the far North side, Danielle Dante and Malcolm McDermott put the finishing touches on their costumes as Michael Labou arrives to begin yet another night's work.
But this is not just any night - it's Halloween, in a city where death walks the streets..."

Fangoria’s comic book line appears ready for resurrection.
The editors recently posted on their MySpace page:
“That’s right, kiddies. We’ve gotten the band back together! Troy Brownfield, Fangoria Graphix Associate Editor here. I don’t have to tell you all that’s it been a weird couple of years. But Executive Editor Scott Licina, Production Manager Jason Moser, Director of New Media Development James Zahn and I are thrilled to be back where it all started. Ever since Tom DeFeo and The Brooklyn Company took over, we’ve been talking about what new horrible things we could do to all you, er, do together. The logical first step was to put the work that we originally did under the Fango umbrella in its natural place: right here, right in front of you, our most loyal readers.
“So . . . knowing that, what are you going to see? There will be Bump.

The folks behind the now-defunct Fangoria Comics line have reunited to give it a go one more time, this time under the banner of Fangoria Graphix, according to a new blog posted on Fango’s MySpace page.
Troy Brownfield has been assigned the post of Associate Editor for the new line, which will be run by Scott Licina, Jason Moser and James Zahn. They’ll be releasing the Bump and Strangeland: Seven Sins series as well as some new titles like Ellium and Death Walks the Streets. They’re also planning on a series of novels, downloadable comics and a lot more.
Of course this isn’t the first time big plans have been announced, so we’ll have to wait and see how much of it comes to fruition before we get too excited. And in case you’re wondering, this does not mean the dissolution of Scream Factory,...

James Zahn, the mastermind behind the forever-in-development monster mashup Death Walks the Streets, just dropped us a line with your first look at issue #0 of the Dwts comic, which is looking to be released very soon. More pages are below!
As we told you about before, Zahn and the rest of the Scream Factory crew will be inhabiting booth # 933 at next week’s Wizard World con in Chicago, where they’ll have a convention exclusive copy of issue #0 limited to 333 pieces, the regular version, and a 12x18 poster limited to 500 pieces on hand. The preview issue itself will contain a sketchbook with production designs for the film, including set designs done by No Country for Old Men/Burn After Reading production designer Gregory Hill!
So it’s going to be pretty badass.
