Banijay UK is launching a scripted label led by Intergalactic and Good Karma Hospital producer Iona Vrolyk.
Vrolyk, who has been a development exec for Banijay-owned Peaky Blinders producer Tiger Aspect since 2013, will launch Double Dutch with immediate effect.
The label is targeting popular, character-led returning series and will link up with key collaborators such as showrunner Julie Gearey, with whom Vrolyk has worked on Sky One’s Intergalactic and ITV2’s mid-2000s show Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Vrolyk said the pair already have “exciting developments underway.”
Banijay UK CEO Lucinda Hicks hailed Vrolyk’s “rock-solid reputation for delivering popular, returning titles.”
“She understands how to be commercial but won’t compromise on creative ambition,” she added. “Start-ups are hard, we all know that, but when you have exceptional talent like Iona at the helm, the decision to just go for it is made easy.”

This week marks the launch of new Sky Original series Intergalactic, and to mark the occasion we had the pleasure of speaking to several members of this illustrious ensemble. Below find interviews with Parminder Nagra (Bend it Like Beckham) and Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty), as well as Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Rogue One) and Oliver Coopersmith (Tin Star), before ending on Thomas Turgoose (This is England).
We discuss everything, ranging from the remarkable sets the actors worked on, to the costumes, and the characters they’ve been given. We talk about the film’s strong, empowering feminist approach, and why even though who turn up their nose to science-fiction, ought to give this one a go. We ask whether the actors were able to nab any memorabilia from the shoot, and we even chat to Parkinson about Line of Duty. Enjoy!

The time is February 2020. The place? Manchester’s Space Studios, on the extraordinary set of Intergalactic, Sky’s new sci-fi drama series. From an immersive set, cramped within the bowels of a prison ship, to concept art of stunning sci-fi landscapes, there’s nothing to remind us of a mundane present that will, only a month later, come to seem like something of a lost utopia.
Well, almost nothing. The screensaver on one of the ship’s computers bears the logo of Her Majesty’s Government. Is time travel involved, then? Nope. It’s a relic from previous work on Cobra, the Sky political drama about the collapse of British society in the aftermath of a disaster. Oddly fitting, really…
Mercifully, we come back to the future. First things first, though: this isn’t the galaxy as we know it. “We are set 150 years in the future,” explains producer Iona Vrolyk.

Moonage Pictures, the UK production company set up by a handful of Peaky Blinders execs, is adapting Lionel Davidson’s Russian spy thriller Kolymsky Heights.
The BBC Studios-backed firm has optioned The 39 Steps-esque novel, which was originally published in 1994 but was republished by Faber in 2015 after it became one of the most requested out of print titles at UK bookstores. His Dark Materials author Philip Pullman has described it as one of his favorite thrillers.
It tells the story of an Oxford Professor, who receives an envelope containing nothing but two cigarette papers, which begins a chain of events that will change the course of history. Set just after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the story follows Johnny Porter’s attempt to infiltrate the most secret research facility in Russia – a laboratory buried deep underground, a place nobody has ever left alive. Returning to British screens this past Thursday, Prisoners Wives has been one of BBC One’s secret weapons when it comes to quality drama on their channel. Despite the average-y ratings and the slash of two episodes this series, the hype for the return has been pretty exciting. While this may not be a show directed at WhatCulture readership, it still deserves to be championed alongside other WhatCulture loved shows.
The first episode sees the return of Francesca (Polly Walker) and Harriet (Pippa Haywood), continuing their story arcs from the last series. Francesca is slowly drawn more in the mob life of her husband’s, whilst Harriet finds new solace in Christianity as well as a new romance. We are all introduced to two new characters.
