Lynn Chen’s “I Will Make You Mine” proves yet again that black-and-white films are often anything but. Overseeing a debut that’s nuanced and gently wry (and shot to sumptuous effect), she brings fine shading to the story of three very different women and the thwarted musician who still exerts some gravitational pull in their lives, and vice versa.
While “I Will Make You Mine” stands firmly on its own, it concludes a very indie trilogy that began with “Surrogate Valentine” (2011) followed by “Daylight Savings” (2012). The earlier features were directed and co-written by Dave Boyle, starred Goh Nakamura (also a co-writer) as a version of himself and premiered at South by Southwest. Chen appeared in both as Rachel, Goh’s friend, never quite girlfriend. In “Daylight Savings,” Ayako Fujitani arrived as girlfriend Erika, and musician Yea-Ming Chen appeared as a version of herself. The three actresses take control of “I Will Make You Mine.

There are some cinematic universes worth reentering and when they do, it feels like you’re reconnecting with an old friend. The Surrogate Valentine cinematic universe is certainly one of these.
Shot in stark black-and-white and starring musician Goh Nakamura, first in his 30s finding his voice and now in his 40s confronting the reality of adulthood, marriage, and his past, the latest installment checks in with him and his love interests eight years after Daylight Savings. Created by Dave Boyle and Nakamura, I Will Make You Mine, directed by Lynn Chen, spends more time with the three women of the previous films than with Goh. The movie is somewhere between a daydream–where you can relive those kinds of long spring days spent around your college dorm playing guitar in bed–and the grim reality of an adulthood that is nothing like you imagined it back in your idealistic days.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on basic cable. While Hallmark Channel has been in the yuletide spirit since October (!), the family-friendly network will officially kick things into high gear on Thanksgiving Eve with the debut of a new original movie every night for the duration of the extended holiday weekend.
Not to be outdone, Lifetime will debut not one, but two movies per night — not that it’s a competition or anything!
For the next five evenings, both Hallmark and Lifetime will deck the halls with some of your favorite TV stars of past and present,...

All Nikki DeLoach wanted for Christmas was an Awkward reunion, and she got it… a few months early. The actress formerly known as Lacey Hamilton is currently filming opposite her MTV husband Mike Faiola in Hallmark Channel’s Reunited at Christmas, a considerably more serious holiday movie than you might expect from the feel-good network.
“It’s a different kind of Christmas movie than I’ve ever done,” DeLoach tells TVLine. “It’s a family that has gone through a divorce, and they’re all being brought back together again at Christmas. This is a real ensemble Christmas movie. It’s been challenging,...

Let me begin by saying that while this Father’s Day-inspired list might not contain the best dads on TV — cheaters and murderers abound — it certainly features the hottest. Awkward., Season 3, Episode 4: “A Little Less Conversation”
Written by Christy Stratton
Directed by Hal Olofsson
Airs Tuesdays at 10 Pm on MTV
With the stable relationships of Matty, Jenna, Tamara, and Jake kicking of the third year of high school for the characters, the topic of sex was something that was bound to come up sooner or later. While Jenna’s pregnancy scare led to her confiding in her mother, her father continued to remain unaware of the extent of her relationship with Matty. This episode deals with the aftermath of Kevin Hamilton’s discovery about his daughter, delivering an even-handed look at the different ways people view sex, set amidst some major events.
It was interesting to see the gradual progression of the dinner between Jenna and Matty’s families, and it was a very effective way to illuminate the differences between the way the two were raised.

Although Ashley Rickards told us that Jenna and Matty are "very in love" after summer vacation, that doesn't mean their lives are free of drama -- it's high school, after all.

Jenna's (Ashley Rickards) troubles continue on this week's "Awkward" as her love life continues to spiral downward.
Once again, we meet Jenna blogging her heart away, still confused about Jake (Brett Davern) and reeling from her post-breakup hook up with Matty (Beau Mirchoff).
But her problems wouldn't be complete without her very own Jenna-wagon! Kevin's (Mike Faiola) gift to his daughter only reminds Jenna that she's not the only one dealing with matters of the heart, adding her parents' ongoing separation to her list of heartaches.
Things only get worse when she suddenly realizes why Jake broke up with her. He knows her secret. Cue the picture of her and Matty caught in the act from the night of the wedding.
Back at school, Jenna's desperate attempts at explaining the truth to Jake backfire. She didn't cheat. We know that. Jake just won't hear it. His chilling response? "I know everything.

Zap2it: How do you describe your "Awkward" character, Kevin?
Mike Faiola: He is calm, cool and collected under fire and probably learned that after 16 years of living with two highly strung females who both gravitate toward drama. He was a very young father, probably involved in a family business. I think he works with his father in textiles. I think he is integral to the show because without him things could spin off out of control.
Zap2it: Do you interact with teens apart from the show?
Mike Faiola: I work with teens quite a bit. I work for L.A. Youth Network, which houses and helps homeless youth in Hollywood, and I had taught a playwriting program to help students learn English. I knew Lauren's (creator Lauren Lungerich) voice would strike a chord because teenagers know when they are being b****y, and this takes their...

Everyone's timing is off in the cleverly named "Awkward" episode, "Time After Time." As Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Lacey's (Nikki DeLoach) generationally paralleled love triangles continue to complicate and confuse, we're left wondering: How and when will this end?
It didn't take long for Jake (Brett Davern) to end things with Jenna after the evil, heartless Sadie (Molly Tarlov) spilled the beans on a certain super-secret relationship. Though we really feel for Jake and would hate to be in his shoes, we think he may have been too harsh in his dealings with Jenna. Breaking up with her during a wedding chicken dance, without any explanation whatsoever, is just plain mean and so very un-Jake-like.
As Jenna stands in the middle of the dance floor clearly distraught, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) heads over to find out the reason behind her best friend's confused expression. But even Tamara can't help Jenna out with this one.

Greer Grammer makes you want to be a part of the Awkward. cast. Besides the infatuation with Team Matty and Team Jake and basically knowing how funny and talented the whole crew is, Greer recently just proved to me why the MTV gals and guys are people worth getting to know. The actress, who plays Lissa on the series, agreed to the challenge of describing each of her costars in just one word! (Okay, maybe one word and a little explanation for some.) Check out what she had to say!

Beware the ghosts of the past! First loves are here to haunt on this week's episode of "Awkward," throwing everyone into a phantom heart frenzy. That's right, folks. Havoc is wreaked, truths are revealed, and things are about to get really, really messy.
We're thrust into Ally's (Barret Spatek) wedding along with Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and the rest of this "Awkward" bunch, but we're so grateful we're not part of this wedding party. Ally the Bridezilla makes us want to run for cover. Drinking a liquid meal from a sippy cup, losing her cool over flower baskets, and ordering the worst Princess-Lea-buns-turned-bridesmaid hairdo, Ally's not holding anything back on her way down the aisle. What's more, Jenna's flower girl dress is enough to scare anyone away just on its own. We're curious. Do people still wear taffeta monstrosities?
Regardless of all the wedding craze, J really takes a stand in this episode.

What's more, she has some interesting ideas for her bridesmaids' dresses and hairdos. Of course, Jenna (Ashley Rickards) doesn't quite make the cut as a bridesmaid... instead, she's Ally's designated "Flower b****." Yes. Watch out for Jenna's outfit. Trust us -- it's an eyesore!

Everyone's airing out dirty laundry on this week's "Awkward" - that is, everyone from Lacey (Nikki Deloach) to the Go Veg girl who munched on one too many a cheeseburger. This second episode, aptly named "Sex, Lies, and Videotape," picks up on last week's theme of going public. Except this time the stakes are higher, and everyone has more to lose. What's Jenna's (Ashley Rickards) big dilemma tonight? To confess to Jake (Brett Davern) about her secret relationship with Matty (Beau Mirchoff) or further its confidentiality and tentatively keep the peace. Now, we know secrets don't survive very long, particularly in the high school setting, but Jenna's decision is a hard one to make. We're not sure what we would do, but we're definitely not envious of Jenna's position.
Apparently the soon-to-be-public sanctuary tape, a.k.a. everyone's worst nightmare, poses as a threat not only to Jenna and Matty,...

We left off last season of "Awkward" with two of Jenna's (Ashley Rickards) big questions answered. We got a slightly awkward, quasi-end to the Jenna-Matty-Jake love triangle. She chose Jake (Brett Davern)! And the kicker: turns out Jenna's mom, Lacey (Nikki Deloach), wrote the horribly hurtful, yet helpful how-to-climb-up-the-high-school-social-ladder letter! Now, this first episode back was all about going public with the news of her mother's betrayal and Jenna's new relationship, leaving us wondering: what would Jenna do (Wwjd)?
We've seen their mother-daughter dynamic play out through season 1, and it's safe to say that Lacey and Jenna are polar opposites. But Jenna has finally reached a position of popularity that her mother should be and is proud of. Jenna's Christmas gift from Lacey, a diamond necklace with a card that reads, "Jenna, this is who you are," says it all. But it doesn't change the fact that Lacey betrayed her daughter.

If high school were reduced to one word, it would be "awkward."
This goes for popular kids, loners, stoners, straight-edge students, gangbangers and honor roll peer leaders. MTV's critically acclaimed "Awkward" returning for a second season, Thursday, June 28, perfectly captures teenagers' angst.
At the center of the dark-edged comedy is Jenna (Ashley Rickards). She's surprisingly sane considering at the end of last season she realized her mother, Lacey (Nikki DeLoach), wrote the letter that everyone assumes prompted Jenna's suicide attempt. Jenna, however, didn't try to kill herself; she slipped in the bathroom, and a blow-dryer fell into the bath.
But it was no freak accident that her mom wrote the note, which, in sanitized language, told Jenna to stand up for herself more. For those who missed last season: Jenna started school in a cast that defined awkward, with her arm in an upward right angle to her body. Her...

The summer of 2011 will be remembered for its successful launch of several fun television shows, but queen of them all is the MTV comedy series Awkward. Premised on a young teen who gets an anonymous letter on her 16th birthday, which leads to a series of comedic errors as friends and family believe she tried to commit suicide after receiving it, the show is a delicious blend of teenage angst wrapped in a colorful ensemble of characters and cheeky humor. In fact, the entire series feels like a “love letter” to modern high school life.
Starring Ashley Rickards as Jenna Hamilton, the girl who feels invisible until suddenly everyone knows her name – but for the wrong reason – she infuses the show with believability and charm, particularly as Jenna has a knack for tripping into hilarious circumstances and yet manages to pull it off with aplomb and good-humor.

In Season 2 of "Awkward," we'll finally see the fall-out after Jenna (Ashley Rickards) discovered that it was her mom (Nikki DeLoach) who wrote her the horrifying carefrontation letter that set the events of Season 1 in motion.
How would you feel if your mother wrote you a letter that started with, "You could disappear and no one would notice"? The letter and Jenna's reaction to it definitely have a major ripple effect, particularly when it comes to her dad, Kevin (Mike Faiola).
Luckily, Jenna has plenty of her own drama to distract herself from what's going on at home. We thought that Matty (Beau Mirchoff) might back off, now that he knows Jenna is dating his best friend Jake (Brett Davern). That's definitely not the case. In fact, Matty is finally willing to admit his wrongdoings from last year... and to make up for them, loud and clear.

MTV is full of fun today, and while you may think that has something to do with the clip of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt.1 that is being revealed tonight, it actually has a lot more to do with the info that Awkward. is coming to DVD on November 14th.
That show blew me away from the first episode, and even though there were a few rough patches throughout the season, it's still a winner.
First, I've got some video clips, but be sure to check below for all the info on the DVD release.
Mac Miller stopped by for a "First Date" with MTV News' Rya Backer. Rya took the self-described "half-Jewish" rapper to NYC' Katz' Delicatessen. There, they enjoyed some pastrami on rye, talked Jewish rap history and Mac's 5 year plan: to win a Heisman, a Nobel Peace Prize and a Kids Choice Award.
