Hannibal Lecter… a name that has been cemented forever in the hearts of horror fans alike. We’ve seen him in some truly gruesome, yet unforgettable films. The most well known is The Silence of the Lambs, which was followed up in 2001 with the mostly disliked, self-titled Hannibal. But the very next year, in 2002, we were treated to somewhat of a redemption story of Hannibal Lecter in the form of Red Dragon (watch it Here). Did you know though, that this wasn’t the first time Red Dragon was made? Did you also know that none other than Brett Ratner, of then Rush Hour fame, directed this psychological thriller? Let’s look back,...

Robert Pattinson, Alicia Vikander, Himesh Patel Among Record Number of New BAFTA Members (Exclusive)
Robert Pattinson, Alicia Vikander, Sam Rockwell, Melissa McCarthy, Joanne Froggatt, Himesh Patel and Nicholas Hoult are among the record-setting 559 new members joining BAFTA in 2019, Variety can reveal.
The new class includes a number of recent BAFTA Award nominees, such as composer Nicholas Britell (“If Beale Street Could Talk”), director and producer “Arthur Cary” (“Grayson Perry: All Man”), and production designer Fiona Crombie and set decorator Alice Felton, who both won a BAFTA for their work on “The Favourite.”
The new members are drawn from a mix of individuals applying directly and those who were invited. In both cases they have to pass strict vetting and fulfill eligibility criteria. As well as film and TV, the new intake spans games. There are also numerous craft names in the mix, including special-effects expert Chris Lyons, whose recent work includes fashioning Rami Malek’s teeth for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.

No one doubts that Meryl Streep is committed to her craft - her awards, including three Oscars and three Emmys, speak for themselves. Now, her latest role as Nicole Kidman's terrifying mother-in-law on Big Little Lies has more or less secured her a shot at a fourth Emmy - fake teeth for the role included. Besides emotionally connecting with the role of Mary Louise Wright, Streep also physically transformed herself with a no-nonsense bob, grandma-chic wardrobe, and, hold onto your dentures, set of fake teeth. You might not have noticed the actress's new set of pearly whites immediately, but it was definitely a deliberate decision to have them.
The New York Times's Kyle Buchanan was the first person to point them out after a source told him that the actress wanted to wear fake teeth. But, perhaps like some of us, he couldn't really tell at first. However,...

Rami Malek may be the star of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but it’s ultimately his fake Freddie Mercury teeth that steal the show. The teeth are so prominent they become a significant plot point, as Brian May and Roger Taylor call out Freddie for not being able to be a frontman with his unique teeth. Malek worked with esteemed tooth-maker Chris Lyons on the now-infamous set of fake front teeth, and the artist recently spoke with The New York Times about the creation process.
“[They’re made of] dental acrylics, basically,” Lyons said. “If your nan had false teeth and she takes them out and puts them in the glass beside her bed, it’s similar material to that. But each tooth has been handmade in layers to get the colors and to fit Rami. Nothing’s stock.”
Before filming got started, Lyons made several different sizes of teeth for Malek to try on and feel out.

During her Gotham Awards tribute speech, Tilda Swinton name-checked one unexpected collaborator just before exiting stage: Chris Lyons, the man behind Fangs FX. A prosthetic effects company specializing in dental wonders, Swinton personally rang Lyons for four films that played in 2014: "Only Lovers Left Alive," "Zero Theorem," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," and "Snowpiercer." For Swinton, the makeover is part of the job. If she can use special effects makeup to inch just a little closer to her vision of the character, she’ll leap at the chance. A new behind-the-scenes video gives those who bow at the Swinton altar a chance to see her undergo this metamorphosis, going from "Snowpiercer" makeup chair to on-set rehearsal with director Bong Joon-ho. In the video, the droll Swinton describes her "Minister Mason" work as "very naturalistic, very delicate, very subtle… it’s a nose job, let’s face it." Even in this snippet of footage,...
