Not long after Bravo canceled Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in 2007, the show’s creators thought their showbiz careers were over. Despite masterminding one of the 21st century’s seminal reality TV hits, David Collins, Rob Eric and Michael Williams — the team behind Scout Productions, founded in 1994 as a scrappy indie film outfit based out of Boston — were struggling to find another hit now that they’d been rebranded as unscripted lifestyle guys. “In 2004, we won an Oscar for The Fog of War and an Emmy for Queer Eye,” Collins says. “Two years after that, we could not get arrested. There was a moment where I was like, ‘All right, am I going to become a barista?’ “

Bravo‘s Original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Jai Rodriguez recalled being coached to audition for the 2003 series and that they were paid even less than a first season original Real Housewife. But were they?
Jai Rodriguez was encouraged to lie about his age and background for the ‘Queer Eye’ audition
“I got an audition for Queer Eye. I sat across from a woman like this. And she asked me to take her on a romantic date as a divorced dad living on Long Island. What would be our New York City date? And I knew the city like the back of my hand,” he recounted on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast.

"I just feel ready to move on to something else. I don't know what that is yet, but things come to an end and the universe will fill a void, so it's time to step away and see what's next for me." Lightning very rarely strikes in the same place twice. When Netflix announced that it was planning to revive Bravo's beloved and groundbreaking hit Queer Eye back in 2017, fans were skeptical. The odds that a new version of the heartwarming makeover show would find a quintet capable of filling the very fabulous shoes left behind by the original Fab Five—comprised of Carson Kressley, Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia and Jai Rodriguez—felt slim. And then, after it premiered in early 2018, it proved everyone wrong. Not only did the reboot, shepherded back to the small screen by original creator David Collins, manage to provide a timely update on the original formula by moving...

The Daytime Emmys held their first ever virtual ceremony on CBS on June 26. “The Young and the Restless” won eight awards including Best Drama Series, but we didn’t find out all the winners. Categories honoring digital dramas will be announced at another virtual ceremony on Sunday night, July 19, while children’s, animated, and lifestyle programs will get their due the following Sunday, July 26. And now the national television academy has announced who will be hosting those events.
“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” alum Jai Rodriguez will host the digital drama ceremony on July 19. Rodriguez won a Primetime Emmy for Best Reality Program back in 2004 as one of the original hosts of the groundbreaking “Queer Eye,” alongside Carson Kressley, Ted Allen, Thom Filicia and Kyan Douglas. In recent years a revamped version of the show has aired on Netflix with a brand new fab five, and it too has won Emmys.

If you're a true Queer Eye fan, then you must know that the Fab Five we know and love from the hit Netflix series are not the first to transform lives (and wardrobes). Fifteen years before Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Jonathan Van Ness stepped on the scene, the original Fab Five debuted on Bravo. The series - which was originally called Queer Eye for the Straight Guy before it was shorted to Queer Eye in its third season to expand its scope - was the first of its kind and a surprise success, and we couldn't be more grateful for it, as it later led to the Netflix reboot we know so well.
Rather than Antoni, Tan, Karamo, Bobby, and Jonathan, the original Queer Eye starred Ted Allen, Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Thom Filicia, and Kyan Douglas, known as the Food and Wine Connoisseur, the Fashion Savant,...

Marvel made a big announcement about the future of Mike Peterson (J. August Richards) on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. It’s a big spoiler, so I’ll let you decide if you’ll click on the link. I love the concept, if not the specifics.
Access Hollywood talked with Finn Jones about the upcoming season of Game of Thrones. Sadly, he says, “There’s not enough hot gay sex for Loras this season.” I’m going to sit in a corner where I will think about Daenerys dispensing justice with her dragons and Lady Olenna dropping wit bombs until I’m excited about the new season.

For the Fab Five, things just keep getting better. The chemistry, the sitcom-ready-banter, the outfits, the memories, it was like nothing had changed when the cast of Queer Eye sat down with Andy Cohen for their ten year reunion on Sunday night. It was also seven years since Jai, Kyan, Thom, Carson, and Ted had all sat in the same room. No matter, the reunion was akin to receiving a warm hello from your oldest, chic-est, and most potty-mouthed friends and realizing just how much you’ve missed them.

When Queer Eye for the Straight Guy premiered in 2003, it was an instant hit. With the premise of five openly gay style experts hijacking a schlubby straight dude to give his lifestyle a reboot, the show was as entertaining as it was helpful. What wasn’t there to like about Ted, Carson, Thom, Kyan, and Jai? They were funny, they had chemistry, and they gave straight women everywhere the hope that their cavemen could be transformed using a few “hip tips.”
But Queer Eye was more than just a fun show — it was also ground-breaking. So, when the Fab Five...

The Fab Five are heading back to Bravo.
A decade after the groundbreaking debut of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," the lifestyle show's five stars are reuniting for a new special on the cable network, set to air in October, entitled "Queer Eye Reunion: 10 Years Later."
Hosted by Andy Cohen, the special will find food and wine connoisseur (and current "Chopped" host) Ted Allen, grooming guru Kyan Douglas, design doctor Thom Filicia, fashion savant Carson Kressley and "culture vulture" Jai Rodriguez reflecting on the standout series, revealing behind-the-scenes secrets and giving updates on their lives now.
"Queer Eye" featured the Fab Five as they performed makeovers -- excuse us, "make-betters" -- on straight men, initially, before adding women and gay men into the mix. Debuting in July 2003, the Emmy-winning show was a breakout hit, spawning several overseas adaptations before wrapping its run on Bravo in 2007.

I've been amazed at how much I've enjoyed TBS' King of the Nerds. You have some true geeks in the cast instead of people who just live up to central casting's idea of a nerd. Sure, the humor isn't completely nerdy (though Dr. Mid-Nite was one of the answers in a challenge) but it does a good job celebrating nerd culture, so it's great news that TBS has ordered a second season. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it can avoid that sophomore slump so many reality shows face.
