In the penultimate season of “The Good Fight,” series costar Delroy Lindo bid farewell to his savvy and charismatic character Adrian Boseman. For the final season of the Paramount+ show, which aired its series finale on Nov. 10, creators Robert King and Michelle King introduced the equally compelling Andre Braugher to the ensemble in the role of Ri’Chard Lane, a walking brand of a lawyer and a Machiavellian character who complicates the leadership dynamics between Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) and named partner Liz Reddick (Audra McDonald). Could the celebrated award-winning actor, who delivered a bravura turn as the scene-stealing Ri’Chard, help the overlooked show finally break through at the Emmy Awards?
See ‘The Good Fight’ series finale: How the daring drama pulled off an exceptional finish
Much like his co-star Baranski, Braugher has been an Emmy nominations magnet with 11 to date, attracting acclaim and recognition for his work across genres throughout his career.

A restored version of Iván Zulueta’s ground-breaking 1979 film “Arrebato” (“Rapture”) is screening at the Lumière Festival’s International Classic Film Market (Mifc) in Lyon, France, thanks to Los Angeles distributor Altered Innocence and Madrid’s Mercury Films.
The cult film, considered a milestone in Spanish cinema from the post-Franco years, is seen as metaphor for how directors can be consumed by filmmaking. It centers on José, a frustrated low-budget horror movie director trying to complete a film while struggling with drug addiction. When he receives a package from past acquaintance Pedro — a Super-8 film reel and audiotape – José soon finds himself sucked back into the eccentric young man’s vampiric orbit.
“‘Arrebato’ has such a rich mix of horror influences, punk aesthetics, arthouse vibes, and queer cinema history that audiences can’t help being enraptured by this total gem of a film,” says Frank Jaffe, founder and head of Altered Innocence.

David Buckley didn't want a traditional score for "The Sandman." It's an unconventional fantasy series about dreams, so why stay grounded to reality? Buckley wanted to create music that was beautiful, lush, and often strange and indescribable. Most of all, he wanted to respect the audience. He didn't need to always shout at them with music to be excited, to be afraid, or to be wowed.
It's a graceful score from Buckley, who's nothing if not versatile. He previously worked on "The Town," "The Nice Guys," "Nobody," and CBS' "Evil," to name just a few of his many projects. He's scored plenty of action in his day, but with "Sandman," beauty was the key word. Recently, Buckley told us about his approach to the long-awaited Netflix series and scoring some standout moments in the first season.
Note: Spoilers ahead. This interview has been lightly edited for brevity and clarity.

For the past several years, high demand for intellectual property and deep pockets have fueled a catalog acquisition boom that’s inspired Bob Dylan, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen and more to sell off their lifetime musical legacies for record-setting cash returns in the hundreds of millions. Now the trend is making its way beyond commercial pop and rock to film scores.

David Buckley is set to score the music for Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman.”
Based on the DC Comics character, the 10-part series premieres on Netflix Aug. 5 stars actor Tom Sturridge as Dream —aka Morpheus. He lurks in a realm called the Dreaming, and when he’s captured, his absence triggers events that change both the sleeping and waking worlds.
Buckley had a vast tonal range from which to choose in his musical palette, from deep trauma to horror to otherworldly magic. But since the story was told with human feelings, he kept that in the back of his mind.
“I embraced the full orchestra and a choir,” Buckley says. “Early on, I also embraced the viola da gamba and baroque flutes.” The full orchestra was reserved for big, majestic moments — for instance, when Dream is seized.

The opening credits sequence of “The Good Fight” is so distinctive that even the location where it all began can’t quite shake it.
When Lawson Deming and an assembled crew returned to Quixote Studios in Los Angeles to film the show’s latest round of exploding objects, they arrived to find there was still proof of their last visit, lodged in a spot high above them.
“When we walked onto the stage, we hadn’t been there in two years. We still saw bits of debris embedded in the ceiling from the last time we’d been there. That stuff goes everywhere,” Deming said.
For anyone who’s taken the plunge on the Paramount+ original since its 2017 premiere, that will be a familiar sentiment. A show channeling the rage and bewilderment of a half-decade of uncertainty has found the perfect 100-second encapsulation of all those swirling emotions in a...

Over a staggered series of pandemic-delayed release dates, “Unhinged” has been consistently hyped as the film that will bring the dormant theatrical scene back to life — the one that, as other major releases have either postponed themselves into the distant whenever or bit the bullet and premiered online, has stuck to its guns as a summer big-screen experience. That’s no small amount of self-imposed pressure on a film that, on paper at least, doesn’t look all that prepossessing. An honestly trashy B-thriller that is by now less widely known by its title than as “you know, the Russell Crowe road rage movie,” it doesn’t exactly seem too momentous a film event for VOD.
And yet, five pulpy minutes into “Unhinged,” you kind of see what they were waiting for. Dispensing with context or polite foreplay, Derrick Borte’s film begins with a bloody, punch-drunk doozy of a prologue: Crowe,...

When Olympus Has Fallen was released back in 2013, I don’t think anyone assumed it was the start of a franchise. Meant more as a quick way to beat White House Down to theaters (that was the year Hollywood decided that attacks on The White House were the trend to drill down on), it managed to outgross its more polished competitor. Hence, a series was launched. London Has Fallen raised the stakes, and now this week, Angel Has Fallen concludes the story. An improvement over the first two, largely awful outings, this is still a rather mediocre action movie. There’s some fun to be had, but not nearly enough to warrant a recommendation. Taking place after London Has Fallen, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) now protects a new President in Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), formerly the Vice President. Struggling with insomnia and physical issues after all of...

Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and Malek (Mr. Robot) are not quite box-office names yet, but their acting chops are undeniable. When it comes to picking main title themes this season, Emmy voters are heading toward either FX’s “Feud” or Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Both tap Hollywood musical nostalgia in depicting the rivalry between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford (nominated Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange, respectively) in the early ’60s and ’80s sci-fi in the Duffer Brothers’ creepy thriller.
On the other hand, HBO’s “Westworld” has a haunting theme, National Geographic’s “Genius” offers a brief but adrenaline-pumping opener, Masterpiece’s “Victoria” contains a feisty bit of classicism, and “The Good Fight” gets explosive in the debut launch of CBS All Access.

Shockingly, this is not a Christmas movie. In every other way, though, it is a Shane Black movie, and that is reason enough to rejoice. I am more than willing to cop to the fact that part of what I like about Shane Black is that he evidently loves the exact same things I love, and for the exact same reasons. When someone’s making art that hews so closely to my ideal aesthetic, I start half-in-the-bag for the thing. I’ve written often about my love of La detective stories, especially when set in different eras of the city’s development. Walter Mosley, Raymond Chandler, Thomas Pynchon, Robert Towne, James Ellroy, Michael Connelly… lots of guys have mined this territory to terrific effect, and I have no doubt I’ll take my own shot at it someday. What Black does here is very different than what Paul Thomas Anderson did in Inherent Vice,...

If you’re still recovering from the Oct. 27 episode of CBS’ The Good Wife, appropriately titled “Hitting the Fan,” you’re not alone. The soundtrack to Ben Affleck's latest film venture, The Town, is an evocative collection of music, combining the excellent elements from both electronic and orchestral music to an intense, atmospheric effect.
Score composers and common collaborators Harry Gregson-Williams and David Buckley have joined forces here on The Town-the duo most recently worked together on the video game soundtrack to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots-and have proven to once again to be an effective team.
Specifically, Williams' pioneering style is tempered but not dampened in this collaboration, and the feel of The Town thrives because of it; slowly letting each track unfold with dramatic, pointed menace. The score represents both artists quite well, and drives home the tension of Affleck's Boston-based crime drama via a highly energetic and kinetic energy which captures both the adrenaline flow of a bank robbery and the interpersonal drama which follows in its wake.

Growth, progression these are things we strive for every day as we mature not just in life but also our careers. Ben Affleck has gone from fledgling surprise writer, to Hollywood heartthrob, to now a quiet actor and compelling director. The Town to me sort of reflects Affleck’s growth to this point and when I first saw the trailer (released by WB alongside Inception) for the film I was pleasantly surprised by its look, style and quality of talent. I know he can direct with his acclaimed turn in Gone Baby Gone but could he do that again? Seems so.
I think this movie The Town looks pretty good and can’t wait to see it sure it has comparisons to The Departed and that Boston’s Finest movie that came out earlier this year but to me it seems as if The Town is going to be somewhere in the middle maybe better.

British composer David Buckley began his career by writing television music and jingles in his homeland before he was introduced to Harry Gregson-Williams. After working on some of the composer's most recent projects (from the Shrek sequels to Gone Baby Gone), David gained enough experience to write his own full-length film scores. His most visible credits up to now include Joel Schumacher's Town Creek and The Forbidden Kingdom - the movie that united martial arts superstars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. His latest movie entitled From Paris With Love once again teams up a mismatched couple - now in the form of Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and John Travolta, who play characters getting on like a house on fire. Based on a story by Luc Besson, the French action picture gave its composer an opportunity to provide a high-energy, percussive score which is counterpointed by sensuous songs on the soundtrack. We...
