From playing Count Dracula in Bram Stoker’s Dracula to Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, which earned him an Oscar win, Gary Oldman has undoubtedly marked his name in the history books. Despite being considered one of the greatest actors of our time, his Oscar win for Darkest Hour sparked controversy surrounding the actor.

However, the controversy at the time had little to do with his performance, as it boiled down to the allegations of domestic abuse in the early 2000s after he parted ways with his then-wife Donya Fiorentino.

Gary Oldman doesn’t think his work at Hogwarts was all that magical.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz during the latest “Happy Sad Confused” podcast released Thursday (via Entertainment Weekly), Oldman spoke about his stint as an ensemble member of the popular “Harry Potter” blockbuster franchise. Oldman portrayed the title character’s outlaw godfather, Sirius Black. He first appeared in the 2004 third film “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” later reprising the role in 2005’s “Goblet of Fire” and 2007’s “Order of the Phoenix,” after which his character was killed off. He made a final appearance in the series in a cameo for the seventh and final film, “Deathly Hallows — Part 2.”
Although Sirius is by now among Oldman’s most famous roles, the “Darkest Hour” Oscar winner admitted during the interview that he finds his performance in the films lackluster overall. Comparing his work in the movies to...

Poll any 25 movie fans on what their favorite Gary Oldman performance is and you’ll get nearly as many answers (I’ll take Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy). But one that surely connected with a core audience was Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series. And it was those movies – and by taking on James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies – that helped him find a balance between work and home life.
Speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show (via Variety), Gary Oldman said the turmoil following his divorce from third wife Donya Fiorentino put him in a tough situation when it came time to manage his career and bond with his sons. Gary Oldman appeared on “The Drew Barrymore Show” this week and expressed gratitude for the “Harry Potter” and “Batman” film franchises for saving him, both in his career and his personal life. Acting jobs were drying up for Oldman before he got cast as Sirius Black and James “Jim” Gordon — two roles that made him a fan favorite among genre fans and gave his career the star power it never had before.

Kiernan Shipka is officially off the market, and if you haven't heard of her boyfriend, then you've at least heard of his dad. The 19-year-old Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star sparked rumors of a relationship earlier this Spring when she was spotted hanging out with 20-year-old Charlie Oldman. Then, a day after Kiernan accompanied Charlie as his date to the premiere of the documentary Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché at the Harmony Gold Theatre in Los Angeles, Charlie posted a cute selfie of the two on his Instagram captioned with a heart emoji, leaving no question of their relationship status. Though the actress claimed back in November that she was too busy to date, it seems as though she couldn't resist Charlie's charm (and his seriously cool tattoos).

Gary Oldman's son has taken a public stand in support of his father. On the heels of resurfaced reports regarding 2001 domestic violence accusations against the actor from his third ex-wife, the new Oscar winner's son, Gulliver Oldman, has issued a public letter fiercely defending his dad. In the lengthy statement, the 20-year-old son of Gary and Donya Fiorentino called the rehashed claims "false allegations," took aim at The Daily Mail's February interview with Fiorentino, in which she described their allegedly turbulent marriage, and at "clickbait journalism" and the "judgment by headline" that can ensue in the digital age. Gulliver Flynn Oldman, the 20-year-old son of actor and newly-crowded Oscar winner Gary Oldman, has written an open letter passionately defending his father against an abuse allegation made by his mother, Donya Fiorentino. Fiorentino accused Gary Oldman in 2001 of choking and beating her with a telephone in front of Gulliver and his brother, Charlie. The allegation resurfaced during awards season as Oldman won numerous prizes for “Darkest Hour” in the midst of the #MeToo and Time’s Up anti-harassment movements.
Following Oldman’s Oscar win for Best Actor, Fiorentino gave a statement to TMZ in which she said, “Congratulations, Gary and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one but two abusers [Kobe Bryant] with Oscars. I thought we had evolved. What happened to the #MeToo movement?”

Gary Oldman’s ex-wife Donya Fiorentino has criticized the Academy following his Best Actor Oscar win Sunday night, accusing it of rewarding abusers. “Congratulations, Gary and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one but two abusers with Oscars,” Fiorentino told TMZ on Monday. “I thought we had evolved. What happened to the #MeToo movement?” Oldman, who portrayed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in “Darkest Hour,” was accused by Fiorentino in 2001 of physically and emotionally abusing her during their four-year marriage. The actor has denied the accusations and his representative said in a statement to TheWrap Monday night that Fiorentino’s claims were made...

Time’s Up made its presence felt at last night’s Academy Awards, but not every moment was seen as a positive one. Two of the most controversial developments concern newly minted Oscar winners who’ve faced serious accusations of their own: Best Actor honoree Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) and Kobe Bryant, who shared the Best Animated Short trophy with Glen Keane for “Dear Basketball.”
Donya Fiorentino, Oldman’s ex-wife, has weighed in on the evening by asking “what happened to the #MeToo movement?”
“Congratulations, Gary and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one but two abusers with Oscars. I thought we had evolved. What happened to the #MeToo movement?” she said in a statement to TMZ. Fiorentino, who was married to Oldman from 1997 to 2001, accused the actor of physical and emotional abuse following their divorce; her allegations include an incident in which he’s said to have attacked her with a telephone.

When it comes to Oscar nominations, what’s often most compelling are the names that don’t make the cut. This morning’s list includes a number of notable exclusions, many of whom could hang their rejection on the growing strength of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. The past few months saw dozens of sexual assault, harassment, and misconduct allegations rock Hollywood; inevitably, the fallout led straight to the Academy Awards.

The couple, who married in September 2017, looked totally loved up on the red carpet on the way to the awards, and Gisele later posed with Gary at the Focus Features afterparty, proudly kissing her award-winning husband. Whether or not you agree with his recent comments in Playboy, there's no denying Gary Oldman is one of the great actors of our time.
Ever since breaking out in 1986's "Sid and Nancy" as the self-destructing Sex Pistol Sid Vicious, Oldman has transformed himself from one role to the next. A true chameleon, the actor changes his voice for every part and is nearly unrecognizable in films like "True Romance" (1993) and "The Contender" (2000). Despite his enormous influence among fellow actors, Oldman shuns the spotlight and has only once been nominated for an Oscar. Oldman turns in yet another stirring performance (despite limited screen time) in this summer's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes".
From his famous ex-wife to his rejection from a prestigious drama school, here are 27 things you probably don't know about Gary Oldman.
1. Gary Oldman was born on March 21, 1958 in London, England to Kathleen Cheriton and Leonard Bertram Oldman.

Hailed by John Hurt as the 'best of the bunch', Oldman is a working-class hero acclaimed for his acting and directing
Gary Oldman returns to London this weekend in the role of prodigal son, the wayward talent brought in from the cold. He arrives from California to find a landscape very different from the one he left in the early 1990s.
The fiery social-realist BBC teleplays that provided an early calling card have bitten the dust. The cult of the raw-boned working-class British performer has been largely replaced by a roll call of Etonians and Harrovians: a rash of Redmaynes, Hiddlestons and Cumberbatches. And so, at the age of 53, Oldman touches down like some disreputable Rip Van Winkle, a reminder of times gone by. All of which makes him more striking – and arguably more necessary – than he was before.

Oldman Was Stay-at-home Dad Thanks To Potter

English actor Gary Oldman has credited the Harry Potter franchise with allowing him to be a stay-at-home father.
The Brit became a single dad after his marriage to Donya Fiorentino ended in 2001, but he was able to raise his youngest sons Gulliver and Charlie thanks to his flexible shooting schedule for the Potter series and Christopher Nolan's Batman movies.
He tells Britain's The Independent newspaper, "I'd had a sort of 'domestic derailment' and then found myself with these two young boys. I felt both trepidation and a sense of excitement. And I just wanted to be there, for them.
"So actually, (the roles as) Sirius and Gordon came at a good time. They allowed me, certainly financially, to really be at home with the kids. You make a Harry Potter movie for six weeks - and some of the time they would travel with me - and then you have maybe seven months at home. It's been wonderful. They are my greatest accomplishment, terrific boys.
"I love getting them up, having breakfast and driving them to school - although Gulliver, who's 14 now and in high school, pretty much takes care of himself in the mornings. He's discovered girls, and doesn't want to be a grotty, smelly kid any more, so he's really making an effort in that department.
"And I'm an honorary mother. There's a group of friends from pre-school, we're close and still see each other... I'm one of the mums."...

A compelling performance by Gary Oldman in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy sees a return to form by an actor best known recently for franchise blockbusters
You couldn't exactly say that Gary Oldman has been away. Hollywood star Gary Oldman was sick with terror when his two sons apparently 'vanished' after a trip to a busy London tourist spot yesterday. The Fifth Element star raised the alarm when a nanny, hired to look after Gulliver, five, and Charlie, four, while he films his role in the new Harry Potter movie, failed to keep a meeting with him at the London Eye attraction. Oldman alerted police, who rushed to the scene and searched the area, scouring surrounding buildings while a police helicopter hovered above. The terrified actor also raced to join the hunt, but luckily he soon found out there had been a simple mix-up - the nanny had actually taken his boys home instead of meeting him. The relieved star shook hands with police and said, "Everything's OK. Everything's fine." A police spokesman says, "Our initial reports suggested the boys had gone missing. Naturally the father became very concerned. It seems this was just a mix-up and we're glad the boys are safe." Oldman's ex-wife Donya Fiorentino is said to be fuming that her estranged lover left the boys with a nanny - a pal says, "She was sick with fright - it's every mother's nightmare."...
