For the second year in a row, the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (Galeca) have rallied around an obvious favorite: “Moonlight.” Last year, Todd Haynes’s “Carol” swept Galeca’s Dorian Awards, and from its prominence amongst the nominees announced today, “Moonlight” will likely do the same.

Not restricted to films with explicit queer themes, the films nominated for film of the year are “Jackie,” “Manchester by the Sea,” “La La Land, “20th Century Women,” and “Moonlight.” The nominees for Lgbtq Film of the Year are “Being 17,” “Closet Monster,” “Moonlight,” “Other People,” and “The Handmaiden.”
Judging by its very strong Oscar chances, the enthusiasm for “Moonlight” has overshadowed all other worthy queer films. “The Handmaiden” was notably absent from the Oscar short list for Best Foreign Language Film, and the other three Dorian nominees are not in contention at all.

Remember your chief gripe about the first two seasons of The Following? It was Michael Ealy‘s issue, too.
After watching a few episodes of Fox’s serial killer drama, “I didn’t find the police work to be substantial. That’s just full disclosure,” the actor says candidly. “I kinda checked out.”
Cut to the current season, when Ealy — last seen as gentle android Dorian on Fox’s cancelled Almost Human — was presented with an opportunity to play a new, terrible murderer on the Kevin Bacon-led thriller.

Perhaps one of the most annoying critiques to cross an "American Idol" judge's lips is the dreaded "you were much better in rehearsal." That's nice and all, but it's the live show that counts, since that's what America sees. Zap2it sat in on the "Idol" Season 13 rehearsal for Top 9's "I'm With the Band" week. Here are our major takeaways from the two-hour affair.
- The final dress rehearsal, held around five hours before the show goes live, is pretty much an exact run-through of what you'll see later in the evening. The contestants were, for the most part, wearing whatever they wore during their performances. Ryan Seacrest, in jeans and a button-down, did abbreviated versions of each of his hosting standups, and the contestants each got one final run-through of their song with the band and the staging. The only difference was the lighting -- the studio remained brightly lit the whole time.

Being an "American Idol" contestant is incredibly nerve-wracking -- even when there are no stakes involved. For the show's 13th season, producers have added a new element into the final week of preliminary competition: a workshop/boot camp with judge-turned-mentor Randy Jackson.
To experience this new round firsthand, I spent a cloudy January day going through each station in the "Idol" bootcamp. I wasn't even a real contestant, but it was one of the most terrifying professional experiences I've ever had. (Putting things into perspective: I spent the day at a luxurious beachside Southern California resort on the set of one of my favorite television shows. This is clearly a first world problem.)
I knew I'd have to sing eventually. I was sort of prepared, in that I sang in high school choir and I am acquainted with the inside of a karaoke booth. But I wasn't actually ready to...

Oklahoma marriage amendment struck down, McDonald’s says Adventure Time toys are for boys, Tony Perkins thinks homosexuality causes extinction
Carrie Underwood was named the top earning American Idol alum with $31 million last year, with Kelly Clarkson taking second place with $7 million. But Adam Lambert is doing just fine, earning $5 million to tie for third with Phillip Phillips.
The big news last night was that a federal judge struck down Oklahoma’s marriage amendment as unconstitutional for violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. The ruling is currently stayed pending appeal in the 10th Circuit, which also has Utah pending. In striking down the ban, Judge Kern said “Equal protection is at the very heart of our legal system and central to our consent to be governed. Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.

A few notes before we begin.
1) Get out your VHS of Paris Is Burning, because I just realized Nicki Minaj talks exactly like Venus Xtravaganza. I'm always expecting her to shout, "Touch this skin! Touch all of this skin!" at Mariah, who might just be Dorian Corey.
2) Keith Urban is living proof that most country stars dress like they're in a 2001 Matchbox 20 video.
3) Randy Jackson is still a cauldron of nothing.
Moving along! Idol's second day of season 12 auditions was damn fruitful, as 16 acts won Hollywood tickets and I didn't truly hate any of them. Can you believe it? I am filled with true hatred, and I had nowhere to displace it. In fact, the one auditioner who seemed like an obvious burnout turned out to be most provocative and cool singer of the competition so far. Let's visit with her first, shall we?
1. Kezban Sauerbier: Weird. And Thank God.

It was the best of times and the worst of times for Michael Jackson. A year ago, the King of Pop was working furiously, by some accounts day and night, to hone an over-the-top production that he hoped would mark a triumphant return to the world scene during an unprecedented 50-show run at London's O2 arena.
His final weeks were spent preparing for the unlikely comeback that he hoped would show his three young children what daddy used to do for a living, after he'd spent most of their young lives off the stage. He was also eager to prove to fans and doubters across the world that his once unbeatable pop machine could moonwalk back into their good graces despite nearly two decades of controversy, shame, broken promises and missed opportunities.

“We’ve treated a number of the Idol contestants and the one thing they all tell me is that the let-down after the final performance is so profound, they get depressed,” the 51-year-old specialist said on the American Idol finale red carpet May 26, advising, “That’s the thing to watch for — keep your balance…and enjoy the moment.”

They may have sparred onstage, but these two now-former Idol judges really are BFFs — and Paula’s send-off brought tears to Simon’s eyes!
When Paula Abdul finished her video send-off to pal Simon Cowell with the words, “To sir, with love,” she absolutely meant it. The emotion was so high it brought a tear to Simon’s eye — and to mine.

Another 'Idol' Player Jumps Ship for Jay Simon Cowell wasn't the only one who bid sayonara to "American Idol" last night.
Dorian Holley -- the Vocal Coach and Associate Musical Director -- said farewell last night as well, and he's heading for "The Tonight Show."
Holley was also the Vocal Director for Michael Jackson and was a key player in the London tour that never happened. He was with Jackson hours before he died. Holley will become the lead singer in "The Tonight Show" band. And he's not the only "A.I." musical guru who's jumping ship -- Rickey Minor will take over Jay's band.
Need a job? There are openings at "Idol."

Mama Sox was robbed last night – but even she had a feeling that her ‘musical crush’ Lee DeWyze was going to walk away with the top prize this season on American Idol
I am beyond disappointed by the American Idol season finale May 26, if only for the reason that my girl Crystal Bowersox lost by a 2% margin. Two Percent. Highway robbery! That said, I suspected all along that Lee DeWyze might steal her glory and apparently, so did she.
“I knew Lee was going to win,” the 24-year-old Elliston, Ohio native confided post-show. She didn’t seem upset and explained that, throughout this whole experience, her attitude has always been laid-back and laissez-faire. Whatever will be, will be.
“I learned a lot about myself,” she continued. “I feel like I won because Lee won, and I respect him as an artist.”
Amazing attitude, don’t you think?...

Oh, no! We don’t know what’s worse — the heartbreak of losing the American Idol crown or losing the man you love!
The show must go on! Crystal Bowersox’s performance of ‘Up to the Mountain’ was so emotional and heartfelt May 25, we assumed she was just living in the moment. But perhaps the song had so much meaning to the dreadlocked singer because she was in the process of going through a major breakup!
“Big Tony… he went home,” Crystal, 24, said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show May 27, the day after placing second to Lee DeWyze on the American Idol, referring to now ex-boyfriend, Tony Kusian.
The reason for the split?
“He wasn’t cool with the lifestyle [of being a public personality],” the single mom said, admitting she was “a little sad he did it on performance day,” but “it set that fire in [her] belly” for the competition that night.
What a bittersweet week for Crystal!

Carrie, Kelly, Ruben, Fantasia, Jordin, Kris and Taylor were all on hand to sing Simon Cowell off in style — but where was David?
Last night’s Simon Cowell tribute performance was as touching as they come. Seven of the eight Idol-winning artists he (nearly single-handedly) made — Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood and Kris Allen — were all on hand to bid the departing American Idol judge farewell May 26 with their heartfelt rendition of Delta Goodrem’s “Together We Are One.” But where was season 7 winner David Cook?
Don’t worry — the sexy singer doesn’t have beef with cranky Cowell: he simply had a prior cancer charity commitment in Kansas City, says his rep tells Access Hollywood.
Although he wasn’t on hand to take the stage with his fellow Idol winners, the 27-year-old singer proved...

The votes are in and a new champ has been crowned!
America has voted and the new American Idol is Lee Dewyze! Lee beat out fellow finalist Crystal Bowersox to snag the coveted honor and follow in the footsteps of past champs including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks! Even though the judges seemed to prefer Crystal last night, Lee’s versions of U2’s ‘Beautiful Day,’ R.E.M’s ‘Everybody Hurts,’ and Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Boxer’ still managed to win over the fans.
Lee has been a favorite this entire season, even past finalist Blake Lewis told us Exclusively he expected a Lee victory. We do wish however that Lee would reconsider his first single – ‘Beautiful Day’ is a horrible choice!

We thought Simon was quitting American Idol to focus on his new show, X-Factor — boy, were we wrong!
Simon Cowell led us to believe this was his final season of American Idol because he was ready to pursue other endeavors — but today he told his friend and co-worker Ryan Seacrest it’s actually His fault he’s saying goodbye!
“You changed last year,” Simon, 50, said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show May 25, blaming his departure on the 35-year-old host.
“I remember we were on a plane one afternoon and I knew I was going to be sitting with you for the entire six hours. You were listening to Miley Cyrus, singing — what’s that song? I’m listening to you sing Miley Cyrus, ‘Party in the USA.’ You know when someone’s got their headphones on really loud, singing out of tune really loud, and you played it five times in a row?...

Can you imagine a more unlikely pairing than ‘Big’ Mike Lynche and Justin Bieber? We can’t – but Mike loves the little guy!
The hot topic of conversation in between commercial breaks during American Idol May 25 was, naturally, the finale’s special guest performers. One name in particular kept coming up — none other than Justin Bieber!
Idol’s warm-up guy, Cory, outed fourth place contestant Michael Lynche’s obsession with the 16-year-old tween singer, announcing to the entire 7,000+ person audience, “Sorry Mike, I know how excited you get by Bieber, but he won’t be here tomorrow night.”
Cory continued to talk about how enthusiastic the 26-year-old dad from Florida got when Jb was a guest performer on Idol earlier this year, (his performance actually aired May 19) eventually yelling, “Mike’s got the Bieber Fever!”
Duh, Cory. Who doesn’t these days?

Crystal Bowersox went out onto the Idol stage during final performance week with one mission – to win – and she deserves it!
I may not have been completely fair to Lee DeWyze all season, but right now I feel awful for him. His competitor, Crystal Bowersox, brought so much fire, so much power, so much Emotion to her American Idol performances May 25 that there is simply no way he can measure up – and I’m retracting my former opinion!
Sure, the 24-year-old Illinois native performance of U2’s “Beautiful Day” was good, but for me, it wasn’t outstanding. Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer” was too tepid for finale night, and R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” didn’t really get going until it was almost over.

Insert frown face here. Despite a steady and faithful following all season long, I believe that dark horse Lee is going to overtake Crystal Bowersox in the season finale.
It’s no secret that I’m rooting for Crystal Bowersox to win American Idol. The dreadlocked hippy mommy just rocks. Her voice is not only powerful, but in person she’s confident, strong and self-assured. She knows who she is both as an artist and as a person. But somehow, I believe the title she’s owned all season long is about to be ripped from her — exactly like the indignity of Adam Lambert placing second to Kris Allen in season 8.
Why do I say this? Her competitor, 24-year-old Illinois native Lee DeWyze, was the underdog until just recently. He wasn’t meant for greatness. Lee was a shy paint salesman with dirty fingernails who never thought he’d achieve his dream.

Nine of the top 12 Idols got together to celebrate the show’s season finale — and HollywoodLife.com has all the juicy details!
With non-stop rehearsals and seemingly never-ending shows, the American Idol finalists rarely have time to kick back their heels and enjoy a night on the town. However, with the May 26 season finale looming large, nine of the top twelve contestants were able to let loose, enjoy each other’s company and feast on tons of yummy, expensive sushi at Hollywood hotspot Katsuya.
“Crystal, Paige and Siobhan were all too tired after rehearsals that day, but everyone else came,” an insider dished to HollywoodLife.com exclusively about the May 21 dinner. “Everyone was super friendly with each other and it was a complete family atmosphere. They were celebrating everything that is coming to an end and the tour that is about to start. It’s one of the last hurrahs before their ‘real lives’ start.

But why would these two BFFs — who seemed genuinely stoked that they’d be facing off against one another — ever dislike the other?
It all went down with the flip of a coin. Following the results show May 19, Lee, Crystal and Ryan pre-taped the coin toss which determines the order in which the Idols perform on the May 25 finale. Mama Sox won, and chose to go second…but not without worrying that her friend (who clearly wanted to go second himself) was going to be upset with her decision.
“Are you going to hate me?...

Our own American Idol judge was Not impressed by any of the remaining contestants last night — and he thinks Lee DeWyze is getting special treatment!
Sorry Casey James, Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze, but you made Blake Lewis’ ‘Worst Top 3 of All Time’ list. How’s them apples?
“To be honest, I think the song choices this round made this the worst Top 3 show in American Idol history,” the 28-year-old season six runner-up tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively of the May 18 performances. He added, “Idol has given [Lee] an easy hand to get into the finale. It’s not really fair to Crystal and Casey by giving Lee a production [he sang Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with a gospel choir] that big at the end of the show. It leaves the audience feeling like he’s won already.”
True that! What else did our Idol judge think of last night’s performances? Take it away, Blake!

What does Idol hopeful Casey love? Check out a few of his favorite things, and see if you’d be a compatible girlfriend for the sexy singer!
We already know what kind of underwear 27-year-old American Idol contestant Casey James prefers, but what else makes his heart go boom? Take a look at our hand-made dating ad for the lusciously locked rocker here based on his latest Facebook page entry!
Swm Seeking Swf, Cougars Can Apply!
I’m a rockstar in the making with hair to rival Bret Michael’s or Bon Jovi’s. Don’t like it? Don’t apply!
I’m 5’6 (but at least 5’9 in my cowboy boots) so not looking for any Amazons. You must like jewel tones, especially as I love purple underwear — for myself, not you!

The remaining three American Idol hopefuls will be singing two songs each tomorrow night — and hopefully their own picks are better than the crud the judges chose!
I can’t even tell you how disappointed I am in music ‘professionals’ Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson (fourth American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres gets a pass since she’s mostly there for entertainment purposes). Just wait until you hear the sappy pap they’ve selected for Casey James, Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze to sing during contestant/judge’s choice song week, and just try to tell me you’re impressed with their picks!
Cranky Cowell, 50, is always banging on about picking ‘the right song.’ He did, in fact, pick a great song for Lee, 24 — Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” — but which also happens to be a tune already sung this season, by Teflon Tim Urban. This is...

Ouch. Sounds like someone is bitter at having to leave the American Idol building!
‘Big’ Michael Lynche was Not saved for a second time this season, and was voted off American Idol May 12. Needless to say, the 26-year-old Floridian is Not happy with the results!
“It was not surprised and not expected,” Mike said of his elimination during a conference call May 13, while his newborn baby girl cried in the background. “America is a fickle creature and she’s shown that as the competition has gone on. You just never know. I think that I was consistent every week and always gave my heart when I sang.”
The 6’1, 300 lb. teddy bear who can bench press 505 lbs. continued, “The only thing with giving your heart is that it gets broken, but if it’s received well, it can be really magical and special. I think that the way...

So long, Big Mike! Sorry to see you go, but I’m glad Casey James is sticking around instead!
Hasta la vista, Big Mikey! I seriously thought Casey James was about to be given the boot on American Idol May 12, but thankfully America voted wisely, and the good-lookin’ Texan in still in the competition!
Elimination night was a little sleepy for me, dawg. The drama factor wasn’t there. No one seemed all that upset that the 26-year-old Floridian was leaving the Idol building, despite an emotional moment holding his baby girl – all captured on camera, natch.
Both Casey 27, and Crystal Bowersox, 24, were cool as cucumbers as they were saved. Maybe they were doing cartwheels inside, but I didn’t see it. But then, that’s what I like about both of them.
Lee DeWyze, of course, showed enough emotion for everyone involved. Homeboy is the new Ryan Seacrest! He soothed Big Mike,...

Our very own American Idol judge had a problem with Lee’s rendition of “Kiss From a Rose” — but says he’ll still be around come next week.
Oh, Lee DeWyze, Why did you choose to pick a song as big as Seal’s power ballad, “Kiss From a Rose?” Our American Idol judge, Blake Lewis, can’t figure it out!
“I wasn’t a fan,” the 28-year-old season six runner-up tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “[Lee] started out really weak, and the song moves around too much vocally for his range. The song was too big for him.” But don’t worry, Lee fans — Blake still thinks he’ll be back next week. “No doubt he will still be here tonight because Americans have an affinity for that scratchy rock guy sound,” he says.
So who did Blake like during movie week? Take it away, Blake!
