One of the most dehumanizing features — which is certainly a built-in component and not a bug — of the U.S. immigration system as it pertains to asylum seekers is that the applicant bears the burden of proving they have suffered enough or that they risk death in their home country in order to be granted permission to stay. The more horrifying the survived experiences, the better the chances for a positive outcome. But how does one precisely quantify someone’s distress or the likelihood that their safety will be threatened? These stipulations exist more to keep people from the developing world out than to offer them protection.
The Christian drama “Between Borders” uses a contentious asylum trial as a framing device to tackle the real-life case of the Petrosyan family, an ethnic Armenian couple and their two daughters, for whom Azerbaijan was the only home they’d ever known. Although...

A new trailer for Jimmy, a film based on Robert Whitlow’s novel, has arrived.
The family film comes from director Mark Freiburger and stars Ian Colletti, Ted Levine (Monk, The Hills Have Eyes), Patrick Fabian (The Last Exorcism, Big Love, Veronica Mars), Kelly Carlson (Nip/Tuck, Melrose Place), Bob Gunton, Burgess Jenkins, Stelio Savante, Chuck Carrington, Sharon Lawrence, and Gregory Alan Williams. The plot revolves around “a mentally challenged teenager (Colletti) who interacts with supernatural beings he calls Watchers.” If that means a bunch of Giles’ running around, I’m in. Catch the trailer and the poster for Mark Freiburger's Jimmy, starring Ian Colletti, Ted Levine, Patrick Fabian and Kelly Carlson. The drama's scheduled to find release on June 4th, 2013 and is based on the novel by Robert Whitlow. Jimmy tells of a mentally challenged teenager (Colletti) who interacts with supernatural beings he calls "Watchers". Also in the cast are Bob Gunton, Burgess Jenkins, Stelio Savante, Chuck Carrington, Sharon Lawrence and Gregory Alan Williams. I must say, the trailer's quite moving, and I certainly would recommend catching this film, which looks to have its share of thrills, drama, compassion, love and perseverance.

The biggest day of the year in advertising is coming up this Sunday, but as in recent years, fans don't have to wait until the Super Bowl to laugh (or groan) at the featured ads. One of the companies leading the way in terms of pregame views is Doritos, which recently wrapped up its seventh annual Crash The Super Bowl contest, where one lucky fan's chosen ad sees broadcast during the big game. All five finalist ads were available on the Doritos YouTube channel, while fans were able to vote for their favorite on Facebook. After weeks of intense competition, Mark Freiburger's 'Fashionista Daddy' spot has been announced as the winner, proving that tough guys do in fact wear pink. Freiburger, a filmmaker originally from North Carolina, has also released a behind-the-scenes video where we learn, among other things, when it's appropriate to create pixie dust in post-production. Freiburger...
