Since its launch earlier this year, Stay In LA, the campaign designed to encourage more production to return to the city following the devastating wildfires, has hit over 22,000 signatures to petition.

The group behind the campaign is now launching their first live event, a rally in Sun Valley.

The event will take place at SirReel Studios at 8500 Lankershim Blvd, Sun Valley, CA between 2pm and 6pm with on April 6 organizers expecting “hundreds” of people to attend.

The rally will feature speeches from industry leaders, union representatives, and community members, with a full list expected next week, along with opportunities for attendees to learn how they can support the movement.

The Stay in LA campaign, a call to keep more production in the city, has hit 20,000 signatures with high-profile stars including Andy Garcia and Marisa Tomei joining the call alongside filmmakers including Jonathan Nolan and Paul Feig.

This comes after a week of awards season events where the likes of Hacks co-creator Paul W. Downs and DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter stumped for the campaign at high-profile shindigs.

As Hacks, which shoots in locations including Altadena, won best comedy series at the Critics Choice Awards, Downs said that “we need to ask to shoot our shows in LA” and the “people in the room have the power to make it happen”, while Linka Glatter, who lost her home in the wildfires, urged directors to “insist that your projects are shot where they are set”.

Jolie will play Karina, the ex-wife of an accomplished concert pianist named Richard (portrayed by Waltz). He has suffered many losses, including the estrangement of his daughter, when he gets diagnosed with Als in his hands. As the disease worsens and Richard can no longer play the piano or live on his own, Karina reluctantly steps in to be his caregiver.

Tinder recently wrapped production on a secret TV series which will launch on the popular dating app as early as October. (Via Variety.) Set in a pre-apocalyptic world, the series will utilize the app’s famous swiping feature as part of a choose-your-own-adventure style narrative. Viewers will swipe left or right depending on which way they want the story to unfold, much like choosing potential matches. Production on the untitled six-episode show wrapped in Mexico City at the end of August, under the direction of rising music video director Karena Evans.

The project marks the app’s first foray into producing and distributing original content. Gay dating app Scruff recently launched an in-app game show called “Hosting,” modeled loosely after the wildly popular HQ Trivia game show.

While the show will first air on Tinder, sources close to the project told Variety that producers are eyeing a potential streaming deal after release.

Key to the project securing a series order by USA was Netflix coming on board for a co-licensing deal — called “co-producing” by USA — with the Internet network taking first-run rights to the series outside of the U.S.

Dare Me, starring Willa Fitzgerald, Herizen Guardiola and Marlo Kelly, was one of four pilots ordered by USA in April. Based on the 2012 novel by David Levithan, Every Day serves up an intriguing blend of science-fiction fantasy and Ya romance. The film’s unusual conceit comes with a side order of problematic plot points, but the script and the performances ensure that its positive central message wins out.

Directed by Michael Sucsy, the film centres on a spirit known only as “A”, who wakes up every day in a different body, a bit like Sam Beckett in TV’s Quantum Leap. The bodies are always the spirit’s age (around 16) and always within the same geographical area, and A is careful not to meddle too much in the lives of each person he inhabits.

Based on David Levithan’s New York Times Bestseller, Every Day tells the story of Rhiannon (Angourie Rice) who falls in love with “A”, a person who wakes up in a different body every day. Rhiannon and A end up finding their way to each other again and again, while dealing with the realities of their unusual relationship. Conveniently, this teen body-snatcher explains that they never wake up in a body too far away and the bodies A inhabits are always of a similar age, which thankfully eliminates some rather shady encounters.

Aimed at an adolescent audience, the film combines humour, fantasy and (a pleasant but sometimes cloying) sweetness to its characters and narrative. Every Day is a film that treads precariously between a teen flick and something that may appeal to even younger audiences; with its minimal conflict and quickly resolved drama, which many might find this verging on bland.

This captivating, thoughtful fantasy is like a teenaged Groundhog Day or Spike Jonze’s Her – just go with it

Here is a weirdly beguiling movie, adapted by Jesse Andrews from David Levithan’s Ya novel of the same name, and directed by Michael Sucsy, who made the treacly Channing Tatum weepie The Vow. This is much better. I can only describe it as a metempsychotic teen romance, or palingenetic high-school fantasy. It doesn’t begin with any of the obvious comic or ironic palliatives to get you used to its bizarre high concept. It is offered absolutely straight, like a concerned “issue” movie about something non-supernatural. You have to just go with it, and not break the butterfly of its idea on the wheel of derision.

Since Daily Dead Managing Editor Heather Wixson gave it a five-star review at Fantastic Fest, we've been excited for readers to check out the zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse, and now Orion Pictures has reportedly set a December release date for the horror comedy.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has slowly worked its way out of a financial morass, and now chairman/CEO Gary Barber has revived its venerable Orion Pictures label as a full-service distribution company with marketing executive John Hegeman as president. Positioned right before the Toronto acquisitions market, Orion has announced its first release with Michael Sucsy’s young adult romance, “Every Day” (February 2, 2018), starring Angourie Rice, Maria Bello, and Debby Ryan.

Founded in 1978 by the United Artists management troika of Arthur Krim, Eric Pleskow, and Robert Benjamin (partnering with Warner Bros.), Orion Pictures produced and released films and television until 1999. MGM is relaunching Orion Pictures as a new, standalone U.S. theatrical marketing and distribution company, MGM’s Chairman and CEO Gary Barber announced Wednesday.

Veteran entertainment executive John Hegeman will be appointed to the newly created role of President of Orion Pictures. He will report to Jonathan Glickman, MGM’s President of the Motion Picture Group, beginning next week.

The first film set to be released under the new standalone label will be Michael Sucsy’s YA romance “Every Day,” starring Angourie Rice, Maria Bello and Debby Ryan. The film will hit theaters on Feb. 2, 2018. “Every Day” is based on the New.

Fox 2000 is reportedly moving ahead with All Summer Long, having tapped The Vow helmer Michael Sucsy to sit in the director’s chair on the project, and now we’re hearing that English model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne is in talks for the lead role of Caroline.

Further plot details are being kept under wraps, but Fox 2000 paid $2 million to buy the pitch by Susannah Grant, along with rights to the Beach Boys catalog. All Summer Long is reportedly a 1960s California-set story inspired by the band’s music.

The Pan co-star is in talks for a lead role in the musical film which Michael Sucsy is set to direct for Fox 2000. The studio shelled out $2 million in 2010 for the pitch from Susannah Grant along with rights to the Beach Boys catalogue in a 1960s California-set story inspired by the crooners’ music.

Hairspray and Chicago producers Zadan and Meron teamed previously with Stamos on the 2000 ABC TV biopic The Beach Boys: An American Family, which the three exec produced.
