The first-half of Sunny Deol’s admirable but finally undone sequel to the 1990 hit Ghayal is so riveting that one is hoodwinked into believing that we are on to something remarkably well-packaged over here.
Wrong! The second-half comes on like a tornado to wipe out all the good that is achieved earlier. And initially there is plenty that is done with edge-of-the-seat heart-in-the-mouth adeptness as we are introduced to our hero 14 years after he was incarcerated for killing Balwant Rai, played by Amrish Puri in the 1990 hit Ghayal.
New era. New villain. Same hero. This time Ajay Mehra, older and far more distraught than he was 14 years ago (he is psychiatric medication) takes on a corporate tycoon named Raj Bansal, played by Narendra Jha who was so compelling as Tabu’s missing husband in Haider. Here, the rhythm required from Jha is different and he tries hard to find his bearings.

As far as music goes, Aashiqui 2 has a huge legacy to live up to, as set by its predecessor which released almost a decade back.
If the hits received on the online jukebox released on YouTube earlier is anything to go by, the team seems to have half the battle won. Meanwhile, the makers decided to pay a unique ode to the original by holding the official music launch of the sequel at Sudeep Studios where the original Aashiqui soundtrack was recorded.
“Gathering here for us is a personal journey back in time. Past is something you cannot visit, you can only pay a tribute and move ahead”, revealed producer Mahesh Bhatt adding that it is an emotional moment for everyone associated with the film. “I still remember the day when Gulshanji came and met me. He said, let`s make a musical film and from there the journey started,...

Shamin Desai’s debut film has gone through a lot to see the light of day. It arrives after much
controversy to do with its subject matter’s supposed clash with Rgv’s Rann. Both films deal with the power of media and the lengths people will go to utilise and gain from that power.
The film draws you in from the get going however after a brilliant start it takes a predictable turn. Yet somehow despite the predictability it keeps you quite engaged. As maker Dibaker Banarjee once said, you watch a story regardless of the climax because you want to know about the journey. You want to know how that end you’ve predicted will come about. Rush is one of those films. It requires you to not rush to disregard it just because you think you’ve got the plot all figured out. Stick around for notable...

The Raaz franchise re-emerges with its third film, Raaz 3 this year. Great music has been synonymous with the last two movies and with names like Emraan Hashmi and Mahesh Bhatt associated with it, expectations are certainly running high. Raaz featured music by Nadeem-Shravan while Raaz – The Mystery Continues featured music by Raju Singh and Toshi-Sharib, the second being very contemporary and the first relatively traditional. Both, immensely popular.
The new-ish Jeet Ganguly (Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi) has composed the songs with a guest composition by Rashid Khan. Lyrics have been penned by Kumaar, Rashid Ali and Sanjay Masoom while vocal talents consist of Javed Ali (‘Guzaarish’ – Ghajini), Shafqat Ali (Tum Mile – Title Track), K.K (Desi Boyz – Title Track), Sonu Nigam (Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff – Teri Meri Kahani) and Shreya Ghosal (Chikni Chameli – Agneepath). The album has 6 tracks and is devoid of any remixes or reprises.
