When we spoke with "Friday Night Lights" star Matt Lauria after the series finale, he had mixed feelings about his character -- a high school football star with dreams of playing in college -- enlisting in the army after graduation.
"It blindsided me at first, but then I thought, yeah, this is true," he says. "This is honest. These are his options, and these are the options that a lot of young men, in more rural areas or inner-city areas, have. I loved it."
When "Fnl" executive producer Jason Katims asked Lauria if he'd be interested in a guest-starring arc on "Parenthood," Lauria was excited and flattered to have the opportunity to explore another side of a military man: the coming home. Lauria plays Ryan, a veteran recently returned from Afghanistan, who is having trouble adjusting to everyday life now that he's home.

While it may not bear a Directed By credit, the upcoming "Green Blade Rises" seems to be putting together a lot of ingredients familiar to producer Terrence Malick. The project will be directed by A.J. Edwards, a protegé of the filmmaker who was an editor on "To The Wonder" and served various roles on "The New World" and "The Tree Of Life." Moreover, it features Wes Bentley and Jason Clarke (along with Diane Kruger and Brit Marling), who both appear (or at least shave shot scenes) for Malick's "Knight Of Cups." And now a composer who will be familiar to Malick fans has come aboard. Zbigniew Preisner has signed on to score "Green Blade Rises" -- so, who is he? Well, film buffs should know he was a frequent collaborator with Krzysztof Kieslowski, penning the music for "The Three Colors" trilogy and "The Double Life Of Veronique," among others. While Malick-heads will remember that.

Lots of posters coming up, for a batch of movies that are the horizon, to screw in your eyeballs, sit down and buckle up.... First, we'd got the redacted style poster for Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty." In case you missed it, the first teaser trailer for the film dropped earlier this week and it's certainly some compelling stuff. But just one thing -- the title is already a bit wonky (it's military speak for 30 minutes after midnight), so is blacking it out and then hoping whoever looks at the poster sees the web address at the bottom really the way to go? Who knows, we're not in marketing, but we think it's probably not the best move. But then again, the marketing campaign for this Osama Bin Laden manhunt flick has only just begun. Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Ehle,...

Sony Pictures has moved the upcoming action-thriller White House Down up from November 1, 2013 to June 28, 2013. The project will be competing against Fox's comedy The Internship, and Universal's R.I.P.D. next June. It would be going up against Summit's Ender's Game if it would have stayed in the November 1 frame.
White House Down stars Channing Tatum as a Secret Service agent who must take action when a paramilitary group takes everyone in the White House hostage. Jamie Foxx stars as the President of the United States, alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Joey King, Richard Jenkins, Jason Clarke, and Lance Reddick.
Roland Emmerich is directing from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt, which was acquired by Sony Pictures for $3 million earlier this year. No reason was given for the release date shift, although it is possible the studio may be trying to distance itself from another similar project, Millennium Entertainment's Olympus Has Fallen.

Good news for all of those out there dying for the next Roland Emmerich joint. Sony has moved White House Down, the blockbuster director’s next action vehicle, up from Nov. 1 2013 to June 28, 2013, as per the Twitter account of The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit.
Channing Tatum will lead the project, playing heroic secret service agent to Jason Clarke‘s villain Stenz, a terrorist who takes the…ahem…White House with the President (Jamie Foxx) inside. Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, and Richard Jenkins co-star as well.
From a high-in-demand spec script by James Vanderbilt (apparently purchased for $3 million), Sony has been streamlining this one ever since the acquisition, most likely in hopes to beat out Olympus Has Fallen, that other White House-gets-taken-over-by-baddies movie starring Gerard Butler.
That said, sometimes the early bird doesn’t get the worm. Case in point, Relativity’s Mirror Mirror to Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman.

The first trailer, or teaser rather (clocking only a little over a minute long) from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow's "Zerk Dark Thirty" is finally out. The film focuses on the U.S. black ops missions to kill and hunt Osama Bin Laden, which the trailer pegs as "the greatest manhunt in history". This is Kathryn Bigelow's follow-up to critically acclaimed "The Hurt Locker" so we're definitely expecting some Oscar buzz and hopefully, another great film care of Bigelow. The films stars Jason Clarke, Chris Pratt, Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain and more. Enjoy the trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section. ...

Veteran director Kathryn Bigelow broke barriers in 2009 when she became the first woman to ever win an Academy Award for Best Direction for her 2008 effort The Hurt Locker. She chose to go back to the modern warfield for her follow-up project, a look at the hunt for the former Most Wanted man in the world, Osama Bin Laden. Reuniting with screenwriter Mark Boal, who penned The Hurt Locker, Bigelow has assembled a cast for the movie that includes Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton, Mark Strong, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Jason Clarke, Mark Duplass, Kyle Chandler, Frank Grillo, Harold Perrineau, and Taylor Kinney. A trailer for the movie has now been released, which you can see below.

With the release of a second teaser trailer of Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" this morning, we got another look at one of the most anticipated films of the year. If, theoretically, I happened to be a working actor of Middle Eastern origin, there’s almost no chance I’d ever play Osama bin Laden in any capacity — a choice predicated on reasons which, sadly, speak loudly enough for themselves. But Ricky Sekhon is a much braver man than myself, as The Daily Mail (via ThePlaylist) have learned that he, almost a total unknown, will play the man at the center of Kathryn Bigelow‘s controversial Zero Dark Thirty.
Since the project’s inception, I’ve constantly wondered how big an onscreen role bin Laden would have; seeing as it’s about the hunt for him, I had just started to accept the idea that he’d be a shadowy figure who’s only in plain sight upon his own killing. Yet Sekhon is reported to have filmed for around three weeks — a time he didn’t speak about when asked for comment,...

In case you wondering if we'll see Osama Bin Laden as a character in Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty," this pretty much confirms that we will with little known British actor Ricky Sekhon, who barely even has a presence on IMDb, landing the role of the infamous Saudi-born Al-Qaeda leader.
According to Baz Bamigoye, the actor has already completed his secretive work on the film in the Middle East but, before hand, "did extensive research for his portrayal" and "took the decision to drop two stone [about 26 lbs] to be more in line with bin Laden's 11st 11lb [just under 165 lb] weight." Why is this the first time we're hearing about his casting? Well, apparently, there are a few roles that have been "kept off the official cast list because of the 'sensitive nature' of the characters."

Randall Miller's rock 'n' roll tribute "Cbgb" has found its female lead with 'Twilight' star Ashley Greene taking on the role of Lisa Kristal, daughter of the Hilly Kristel, the owner of the titular, influential New York club to be played by Alan Rickman. The story follows Kristal as she clashes with her father, ends up as the club's business manager and attends law school all while keeping the club afloat during tough times. The real life Lisa Kristal is, in fact, a producer on the film so authenticity shouldn't be an issue here. Miller is helming from a script he wrote with Jody Savin with several interesting cast members already filled including Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop, Mickey Sumner as Patti Smith and Malin Akerman as Debbie Harry. Up until now, our only looks at Lawless, the new film by John Hillcoat (director of The Road and The Proposition), were set photos. "Zero Dark Thirty," Kathryn Bigelow's movie on Navy's Seal Team 6's hunt for, and killing of, Osama Bin Laden has run into more drama -- and major production hasn't even started.
After congressional republicans voiced concerns that the White House was leaking classified information to Bigelow and her team (a suggestion the administration summarily dismissed) and Sony postponed the film's release until after the 2012 election, the "Hurt Locker" director may have thought she was in the clear.
But new turmoil in India has further complicated filming as right-wing Hindu activists protested the production on Friday. Afp reports that members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, or Vhp, disrupted shooting in the north India city of Chandigarh and demanded that any representations of Pakistan on Indian soil be taken down.
A production company claimed it was merely making "establishing" shots and that the Abbottabad home in which bin Laden was killed would be recreated in Jordan.

One of the more interesting projects set to be released this year is director Kathryn Bigelow’s heretofore-untitled follow-up to her Best Picture and Best Director winning 2008 film The Hurt Locker. The new project centers on the Navy Seal team who hunted down and killed Osama Bin Laden, and now Deadline reports that the pic has a working title of Zero Dark Thirty. Well, the cameras are now rolling in India for Kathryn Bigelow's upcoming film, and controversy is already brewing. Of course, there is still that ongoing (and pointless) Pentagon investigation about whether or not Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal were leaked classified documents, but now a different kind of concern has hit the production.
Reports out of India reveal that radical group Vishva Hindu Parishad showed up on set, disrupting the filmmakers. On the back of an offer out to Joel Kinnanman to take on the titular role in Jose Padhida's "Robocop" reboot, it looks like another acting protege of young Swedish helmer Daniel Espinosa is making waves in Hollywood. This writer’s memory of Captain America: The First Avenger has become mighty hazy in the seven months or so since checking out the superhero extravaganza. Now knowing this, I’d appreciate it if J.J. Feild doesn’t take my forgetfulness personally.
I’ll be getting a reminder of him in good time, though, as Variety reports that he’s reteaming with Captain director Joe Johnston on Not Safe for Work, a small-budget thriller that has Max Minghella and Eloise Mumford in leading roles. (Tom Gallop and Christian Clemenson have also signed on.) His character hasn’t been given a description, but with Minghella taking the lead as “a paralegal who gets trapped in an office with a killer working for another corporation to destroy sensitive files,” and Mumford already secured for the role of his girlfriend, might Feild have a… killer part? (Bad, bad, bad.) Shooting on the film should begin imminently.

Of the many, many problems in the later seasons of the ultimately deflating "Lost," it was the Michael/Walt storyline that got the most bungled. We'll save our diatribe for another day, but that whole plot thread truly got ridiculous from the moment they tried to bring the pair back into the storyline after they leave on the boat. Since the show, Perrineau hasn't quite found anything as high profile, but his next job should remedy that rather quickly. Kathryn Bigelow has drafted the actor into her Osama Bin Laden pic. Perrineau will find himself rubbing shoulders with a pretty amazing cast including Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Jason Clarke, Edgar Ramirez, Kyle Chandler, Chris Pratt, Jennifer Ehle and Nash Edgerton. As with everything else about this movie, his role is being kept locked up for now. It looks like we're nearing the finish line in regards to casting,...

There probably isn’t much concern about The Hobbit‘s financial viability, nor is there a lot of contemplation on how it should affect Martin Freeman‘s career. If anything, the British thespian is showing signs of a normal trajectory — a big film here, some TV there (the excellent Sherlock, for one), and little films while he’s still at it. So, in a deviation from the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, Variety reports that the actor will be taking a small turn Svengali, a feature based on the YouTube series that follows “the story of a smalltown guy from Wales who travels to London to fulfill his dream of becoming the manager of the best band in the world.” Freeman‘s role is said to only be a cameo — shot during a break between the two Hobbit films — but his work is always welcome, anytime and anywhere.

Well, it’ll be a fictionalised account of the search for the notorious Al Qaeda leader and, since he’s been located and killed, the mission that eventually cornered him in Pakistan.Ehle was last seen in Contagion, where she dealt with a nasty virus. This time, she’ll probably spend more time in tactical situations than labs.Edgerton, as you might have guessed from the surname,...

With Friday Night Lights completing its run last year, the stars of the acclaimed show are now working on their new careers. Some have continued to work on their television careers, while others have moved on to their movie careers. Adrianne Palicki chose to work on the former, but so far it hasn’t worked out as well as she hoped. So rather than continue her work in television, Palicki is heading towards the movie biz.
According to Variety, Adrianne Palicki has a starring role in a comedy titled Coffee Town. Palicki joins Glenn Howerton, Ben Schwartz, Steve Little, and Josh Groban who have already signed on. The movie would be College Humor’s first venture into the movie industry. Coffee Town will follow a website manager (Howerton) who uses a local coffeeshop as his makeshift office. He and his friends must band together when their freeloading way of life is threatened.

All mainstream media discussions surrounding Kathryn Bigelow‘s bin Laden film — yes, it’s still untitled — have been steered by some nonsense spouted off by a low-rent politician, and that’s an undeniable shame. There’s the obvious reason, that being “who cares”; but, worst of all, it’s made us all lose the forest in the trees. For any proof, just look at the lineup of actors we can expect to grace the screen for Bigelow this year — Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Édgar Ramírez, Mark Strong, Jessica Chastain, and Chris Pratt, all of whom are bound to bring something special to the table in one way or another. It’s such a good cast, in fact, that we could stop there, get down to shooting, and everything would be crystal.
But, as per Deadline‘s word, things just got a little better: Kyle Chandler will stamp his name on the project,...

Exclusive: Kyle Chandler is the latest name to join the ensemble of the untitled Kathryn Bigelow-directed drama about the Navy Seal Team 6′s long hunt for Osama bin Laden. That hunt culminated with the fatal shooting last year of the Al-Qaeda leader and mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I’ve heard that Chandler will be playing a CIA agent, but nobody has confirmed any of the cast Deadline has revealed on the film, so you’ll have to take my word for it. The Mark Boal-scripted drama for Sony Pictures and Annapurna Pictures stars Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez. The picture is moving forward even as the Pentagon announced it is investigating charges made by Rep. Peter King that Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker tandem Bigelow and Boal somehow got inside information about the mission from the Obama administration in preparing the script.
