Sean Bean's characters have suffered brutal deaths on TV and in films. The most notable has been 2010's Black Death, in which his onscreen demise wasn't gratuitous or graphic, but was arguably the most horrifying to date.

Black Death will be streaming on Max from April 1. The action-horror film features an ensemble cast led by The Day of the Jackal's Eddie Redmayne. It also includes Game of Thrones actors Sean Bean and Carice van Houten. Director Christopher Smith filmed Black Death as a realistic depiction of Europe in the Late Middle Ages, during the onslaught of the Bubonic plague.

Michael Cera and Michael Angarano hit the road in the comedy Sacramento.

Vertical released the official trailer for the upcoming film Sacramento on Thursday. The trailer shows pregnant Rosie (Kristen Stewart) encouraging her husband, Glenn (Michael Cera), to reconnect with his estranged friend, Rickey (Angarano), after his dad dies. Together, they go on a California road trip and reflect on their past.

The Sky High star directs the road trip comedy and stars in it with Tallie (played by Maya Erskine), his real-life wife. Angarano also co-wrote the film along with Chris Smith. Leslie Braun serves as the executive producer.

While the road trip comedy is Cera and Stewart’s first project together, it’s a reunion for Angarano and Stewart, who starred together in 2004’s Speak, where they met. The pair then dated in real life from 2005 to 2009.

In June, Sacramento, which is Angarano’s second directorial effort, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Michael Angarano had gone from child actor to director with his directorial debut — 2017’s Avenues. He makes the leap to the big chair for the second time for his new movie, the road trip comedy Sacramento. Vertical Entertainment has just unveiled the trailer that stars Michael Cera, Michael Angarano, Maya Erskine and Kristen Stewart. Angarano directs from a script co-written by him and Chris Smith. Leslie Braun is on board as an executive producer and the film is produced by Stephen Braun, Chris Abernathy, Eric B. Fleischman, Sam Grey, Michael Angarano, Chris Smith.

The official synopsis reads,

Michael Angarano is making his sophomore directorial effort with road trip coming of age comedy “Sacramento” — and it sure doesn’t hurt to have an all-star cast behind the wheel.

“Minx” alum Angarano directs and stars in “Sacramento,” which he co-wrote with Chris Smith. This is Angarano’s second feature he’s directed; the star made his debut with 2017’s “Avenues.”

Peacemaker season 2 is set to premiere on HBO and Max this August and creator James Gunn has just dropped a first official look at Steve Agee as the returning John Economos.

Introduced in 2021's The Suicide Squad, the character has become a firm fan favourite and, after taking on a key supporting role in Peacemaker's first season, made his Dcu debut in Creature Commandos last year. As Amanda Waller's right-hand man, it's unclear what he'll bring to the table when this show returns, especially as Rick Flag Sr. is expected to be calling the shots in A.R.G.U.S.

This is only the second official image from Peacemaker season 2 after Gunn previously teased a mysterious new villain (we've included that at the bottom of this post). DC Stduios has yet to share anything showing Christopher Smith in action, though promo art revealed the anti-hero's new helmet design last year.

When Peacemaker premiered in 2022, its opening theme became an instant hit with fans. According to James Gunn, the show will be changing tunes in Season 2.

Speaking at a press event (via Collider), Gunn revealed that Season 2 would feature a completely new song. "I don't know when they're going to see it," he said. "I was talking about [it] the other day because, one, it was really fun in the first [season]. One of the things is, we totally kept that from the public until the first episode aired, and it flipped people out, which was the most fun about it. Now people know it's coming, so it's not as exciting in that respect."

It sounds like we're going to be seeing a lot of Rick Flag Sr. in the Dcu over the next few years.

Frank Grillo voiced the character in the recent Creature Commandos animated series, and will make his live-action debut in James Gunn's Superman before returning for the second season of Peacemaker. Now, Mttsh is reporting that Flag will also be a part of the upcoming Waller series.

This wouldn't really be much of a surprise given Flag's close association with Waller, but it does obviously suggest that he will survive the events of Peacemaker season 2 and his run-in with John Cena's Christopher Smith.

Though the project was impacted by the Hollywood strikes, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn recently confirmed that Waller is still moving forward, with Viola Davis set to reprise her role as the Dcu's ruthless A.R.G.U.S. chief.

Each of the DC Comics Absolute Universe series has introduced classic characters to Darkseid’s dystopian timeline (read DC All In Special to learn how that happened). Scott Snyder’s Absolute Batman gave readers a variety of villains like Black Mask and Joker while Kelly Thompson’s Absolute Wonder Woman introduced Steve Trevor and Barbara Minerva. Absolute Superman hasn’t differed from bringing in well-known characters.

The first two issues of Absolute Superman introduced Lois Lane, Christopher Smith (a.k.a. Peacemaker), and Brainiac (whose identity hasn’t been revealed). Issue No. 4 brought in someone important to Lois Lane’s life on Earth-Prime and apparently in the Absolute Universe too.

When James Gunn was first announced as the co-chair of the new Dcu Studios, alongside Peter Safran, he revealed that the Dceu would be scrapped in favor of a new and coherent Dcu. The Suicide Squad is still not canon in the DC Universe. James Gunn has once again addressed why the 2021 movie is not part of the Dcu canon, despite being mentioned repeatedly in Creature Commandos.

The DC Studios co-ceo recently took to Bluesky to explain why The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1 are not considered canon even though events from both projects are referenced or followed up on in Creature Commandos, which is the first entry in the Dcu. "Short answer: Only Creature Commandos forward is pure canon. For instance, Rick Flag Jr was killed because we heard Rick Flag Sr talking about it in Creature Commandos, not because we saw it in The Suicide Squad," Gunn wrote. "Long answer: Only Cc forward is pure canon; Peacemaker is almost entirely consistent with that canon other than the Justice League; The Suicide Squad has a lot of consistencies but I think of it as an imperfect memory.

DC Studios' Dcu reboot was billed as exactly that: a reboot. However, James Gunn has decided to bring back many actors and characters from the Dceu movies and TV shows he worked on, and we're getting a second season of Peacemaker which is both a follow-up and not one (the events of the series are canon but Christopher Smith's meeting with the Justice League is not).

It's a little confusing but the filmmaker and studio executive has attempted to once again set the record straight while addressing The Suicide Squad's place in the new Dcu.

"Short answer: Only Creature Commandos forward is pure canon," Gunn said when asked about the 2021 movie. "For instance, Rick Flag Jr was killed because we heard Rick Flag Sr talking about it in Creature Commandos, not because we saw it in The Suicide Squad."

When Peacemaker Season 1 debuted on Max in 2022, the dance sequence during the opening credits became an instant fan-favorite. John Cena, who plays the series' titular antihero, says Season 2 will feature a new song with new choreography.

Marvel Studios secretly helping DC? Sounds like a plot twist straight out of a comic book. Back in 2022, Peacemaker’s season finale made waves with its surprise Justice League cameos. But James Gunn later spilled the beans on how Marvel lent a hand, making this unlikely collaboration one for the history books.

During an interview with Variety, Gunn revealed that Ezra Miller’s cameo at Marvel Studios filmed the Flash. The setup? When the opportunity arose, Gunn was busy shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel. Gunn said that Marvel owed DC a favor, explaining, “The Peacemaker crew shot my screen test for Chukwudi [Iwuji, for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3]. And then we got Ezra with the Guardians Vol. 3 crew.”

Creature Commandos has put Rick Flag Sr. front and centre as the reluctant leader of Task Force M and, despite a brutal clash with Clayface, we know the character will factor into Superman and Peacemaker season 2.

In the latter, we'll see the A.R.G.U.S. agent target Christopher Smith after learning what really happened to his son in The Suicide Squad. However, it doesn't sound like Flag Sr. will have that much to do in Superman next summer despite being shown alongside a handcuffed Man of Steel in set photos.

"With Creature Commandos and Peacemaker, Flag is a prominent figure in the stories," Frank Grillo told Entertainment Weekly. "With Superman, he kind of just drops in."

"There was a rawness, and also a naïveté, about him in Creature Commandos, especially when he gets cornered by the Princess Ilana," the actor continued. "I used that stuff as a template when doing the live action.

In the early 2000s, the resurrection of the slasher wave, kickstarted by Wes Craven's Scream, fell into a decline as audiences got bored of the usual whodunits and teenage protagonists. In 2004, horror transformed thanks to James Wans' Saw, which began the horribly named "torture porn" era. However, coming out around the same time, and getting in before the genre reset, was a smaller film called Creep. No, not the 2014 film with the same title by Mark Duplass. The Creep made a decade before was a British film written and directed by Christopher Smith. As a slasher, it aimed to do things differently by making the killer more monstrous and the final girl rather unlikeable. And then there was that subway setting, which was influenced directly by the John Landis classic An American Werewolf in London.

More than a month after the November election, MSNBC’s primetime audience — which dropped by half after Donald Trump’s victory — has still not returned. The DC Universe is here to change the hierarchy of power in, well, the DC universe. But rather than start with Superman or Batman, the first title in the latest attempt at an interconnected DC cinematic universe is an adult animated show about a group of little known monsters from the comic books.

Showrunner Dean Delorey and writer James Gunn deliver a worthy opening act with this story of a lovable team of outcasts becoming a found family. "Creature Commandos" boasts a killer soundtrack, a lot of gore, and plenty of profanity. This is essentially a spiritual sequel to "The Suicide Squad" that has all of Gunn's charm, his love of animals and misfits, and also one of his key themes in the world of DC so far: interrogating masculinity.

In the first episode of "Creature Commandos," we learn the stakes of the mission and a bit about the state of the DC Universe.

One of The Suicide Squad's most shocking moments saw Peacemaker brutally murder Rick Flag Jr. That came after Amanda Waller tasked Christopher Smith with destroying a hard drive revealing the U.S. Government's links to the inhuman experiments being carried out on the island of Corto Maltese.

James Gunn was at the helm of that movie and, as new DC Studios co-ceo, he's introduced Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos as an A.R.G.U.S. agent and the leader of Task Force M.

However, fans have long argued that the casting of Frank Grillo makes no sense because he's 59 and Rick Flag Jr. actor Joel Kinnaman is 45, a mere 14-year age difference. It's a nitpicky complaint and one the series premiere of Creature Commandos wastes no time in addressing.

Creature Commandos has just become James Gunn’s third consecutive critically acclaimed project for DC, but it’s his first creative output from his new Dcu slate as co-head of DC Studios. Technically speaking, it’s the fifth celebrated project in a row since he oversaw Matt Reeves’ DC Elseworlds’ HBO series The Penguin, as well as the Sundance acquisition of Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. Gunn did not intend for his new animated series to launch the rebooted DC universe, but immediately following the ratings juggernaut that was Peacemaker season one, HBO Max, now Max, asked Gunn if he had another streaming series in him. We didn't get many Peacemaker season 2 set photos when cameras were still rolling on the HBO series and fans who did manage to take them soon found themselves hit with takedown notices on social media. 

Production on the show recently wrapped, of course, meaning we're now waiting for DC Studios co-ceo and series creator James Gunn to share an official first look at The Suicide Squad character's Dcu debut. 

In the meantime, a new photo has just shown up online with John Cena's Christopher Smith and Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt riding a Tokusatsu-inspired motorcycle. Like the rest of the Dcu, it seems Peacemaker will embrace the wackier side of the DC Universe (though we'd say it's fitting for someone like Peacemaker to have a ride this obnoxious). 

Also of note is the fact we see the A.R.G.U.S. logo on the bike, suggesting they're funding whatever he's up to here!

It's no secret that, after Creature Commandos, Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. will appear in Superman and Peacemaker season 2.

Set photos have confirmed that he and A.R.G.U.S. are somehow tied to a character we believe is Ultraman, while we'd bet on him taking aim at Christopher Smith to avenge the death of his son, Rick Flag Jr., in The Suicide Squad. 

Talking to GamesRadar+, Grillo confirmed that Flag Sr. will "take over for [Amanda Waller]" as the leader of A.R.G.U.S.

"In Creature Commandos, I got the uniform," he told the site. "I got the yellow shirt and the hair, and, you know, he's really part of that world. And then in Superman and even more so in Peacemaker, I take over for Viola Davis in what she was the leader of A.R.G.U.S."

"So now I become almost an administrator," Grillo continued.

The arrival of Peacemaker season 2 is getting closer for the DC Universe audience as James Gunn announces a big update for John Cena's TV show. Gunn's DC Universe is set to kick off in December 2024 with the Creature Commandos premiere on Max, and more 2025 projects are also getting ready for their debuts next year, including Peacemaker season 2. While plot details on Peacemaker season 2 have been limited, a new status report is boding well for the show's return next year.

After shooting for more than half a year, Gunn announced on social media that Peacemaker season 2 has officially wrapped filming, with the DC Studios co-ceo having pulled double-duty throughout 2024 by directing episodes of the new season while also working on Superman. Peacemaker season 2 was in the works before the Dcu reboot and the second batch of episodes has just wrapped production according to creator and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn.

A few cast members recently announced that they've finished working on the show but this means filming has officially concluded ahead of an expected 2025 launch next August. A first look is likely a long way off, though Creature Commandos could drop some hints about where Christopher Smith's story goes next.

As the saying goes: bigger is always better. Steve Agee, who portrays A.R.G.U.S. agent John Economos in the DC Universe, recently teased the second season of Peacemaker.

In an interview with Screen Rant to promote Creature Commandos, the first installment in the Dcu, Agee shared that Peacemaker Season 2 "definitely" has "a more epic storyline." He went on to add that "more characters are involved this time, and it's a massive story in a massive world. I think anyone who likes season 1 is going to love season 2."

James Gunn's new vision for the DC Universe (Dcu) is nearly here. With Creature Commandos slated for release in a little over a week and the first Dcu movie, Superman, wrapping up filming this past summer, everything seems to be going smoothly. Now, we have an update on yet another project from the writer/director, as Peacemaker Season 2 has wrapped filming for two of its principal cast members.

The director took to Instagram to share that John Cena (Christopher Smith/Peacemaker) and Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) have completed filming their scenes for Peacemaker season 2. The director described that "shooting yesterday was one of the most fun days of shooting [he's] Ever had" on a project while also revealing that there is only one day left of filming on the Max Original series. Production on Peacemaker Season 2 took place in Savannah Georiga, which the Gunn also referred to as a special place to film.

Frank Grillo first joined the MCU with 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That movie ended by setting the stage for Brock Rumlow to become Crossbones in a future movie and he did indeed suit up two years later...where the villain was killed off after just a few minutes of screentime in Captain America: Civil War.

The actor returned for a couple of cameo appearances but most fans agree that Grillo was wasted by Marvel Studios (a sentiment the actor has never shied away from sharing in interviews).

You're used to us sharing MCU rumours on a regular basis but, for the most part, the Dcu isn't the subject of quite so many leaks. Then, there's the small matter of DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn debunking them as quickly as they're reported!

Well, we have some Dcu updates from Nexus Point News' @ApocHorseman for you today. The biggest revelation is that The Authority is reportedly being reworked as an animated feature; if accurate, this is a huge change but one which makes sense given how obscure those characters are (and how positive early word on Creature Commandos has been). 

Talking of team-ups, it's said that early plans for Teen Titans call for the lineup to be the same as the animated series. That means we're getting Robin (the scooper admits he doesn't know which one), Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg.

According to DC Studios' James Gunn, two of Peacemaker's biggest stars have concluded filming their scenes for the series' second season. In a post on Threads, Gunn wrote: "And thats a Peacemaker Season Two wrap on [John Cena and Jennifer Holland], who both turned in wonderful performances this season as Christopher Smith and Emilia Harcourt."

The Peacemaker showrunner then added: "To top it off, shooting yesterday was one of the most fun days of shooting I have Ever had! Thanks to the incredible people of Savannah, Georgia for making the Peacemaker crews stay here so special. One Day Left!"

Peacemaker season 1 hinted at Christopher Smith having multiple variations of his helmet and we now have our first look at what appears to be his main season 2 look.

While John Cena previously shared what appeared to be a helmet reveal on social media, those of you who suspected it was likely just a random photo from The Suicide Squad or season 1 were likely correct (that or he'll wear a few different variations when the show returns).

The promo art featured on a cast and crew gift matches up with the design first shared by James Gunn on social media when he posted a photo of it from the back.

Understandably, the design doesn't tell us much about what's to come but does mark a significant overhaul for the character in time for his Dcu debut next August.

While it seems his costume will remain largely the same, this looks like...

HBO and Max have confirmed today that Peacemaker season 2 will premiere in August 2025. That's only a month after Superman swoops into theaters and quite a bit sooner than most fans expected.

This means we'll follow Rick Flag Sr.'s story from the Man of Steel's new movie - where we know he'll help detain the hero alongside Ultraman - straight into what many have assumed is a mission of revenge in Peacemaker.

It's also been confirmed that The Last of Us season 2 will launch next Spring.

Back to the DC series, though, and there's a huge amount of intrigue surrounding what we'll see from Peacemaker when it returns. Season 2 was announced before the formation of DC Studios and James Gunn's Dcu reboot, but the continuity changes mean Christopher Smith's world has evolved a little since we last saw him.

The Peacemaker season 2 release window has finally been revealed. Though it isn't clear how the show will fit into James Gunn's DC Universe, the John Cena-led series is moving forward with a new season.

During a preview event for Max and HBO (via IGN), CEO and Chairman Casey Bloys revealed that Peacemaker season 2 will premiere in August 2025. An exact premiere date will be revealed at a later time.
