Andrew Stanton’s (pictured) next film completed principal photography last April, and according to a report over at World Of Reel, the project has now wrapped up post-production work too. The film has now been awarded an MPAA rating of PG-13 for sexual content, thematic material, and some bloody images.
That means that the director behind Wall-e, Finding Nemo and John Carter is almost ready to unveil his next film to the world – and it’s said to be an ambitious one, having started out on the Black List of Hollywood’s promising, unproduced scripts in 2016. The film’s writer is Colby Day, who more recently penned the screenplay for Spaceman, starring Adam Sandler.

As the news gets darker and more depressing, a triumphant “against the odds” inspired by true events underdog story may be just the cure for the late Winter doldrums. And that’s exactly what this week’s new movie promises…and pretty much delivers. It’s an ode to the “help your neighbor” spirit of small-town America (not that it’s completely absent in the bustling cities). Plus there’s a bit of spirituality (right in the title) along with some folks overcoming their own personal struggles. And as a bonus, this marks a most welcome return of an actress to the big screen, in a wide release, after earning a second Oscar almost twenty years ago. In a new “real-life” role this extraordinary actress becomes the leader of a group of Ordinary Angels.
The film’s story doesn’t start with her, though. Instead, we’re in the hospital...

Driven by their devout Christianity, the Erwin brothers — Andrew and Jon — have never been shy about the agenda behind their work. “Our mission,” it says on their website, “is simply to spread the Gospel further than it’s ever been using film as the medium,” and that mission has seen their Kingdom Story Company evolve into one of the biggest forces in America’s burgeoning “faith-based” sub-genre.
In light of the brothers’ stated purpose, however, it’s strange that they’ve responded to their success by making increasingly secular movies. Perhaps that’s just part of the Erwins’ plan to widen the tent and share Jesus’ light with people who haven’t necessarily sought it out for themselves, but it’s hard to overstate the difference between their self-directed 2012 debut — the virulently anti-abortion drama “October Baby” — and the latest feature they’ve produced, a hokey but harmless Hilary Swank vehicle...

Review: When I first saw the trailer for Ordinary Angels, I wrote it off without a second thought as another faith-based drama designed to tug at the heartstrings and reinforce the unlimited power of God. In recent years, there has been a surge in movies like this; few have risen above the minimal viable bar for them to be considered watchable by mainstream audiences. To my surprise, the film is not an overt case for Christ,...

With a true story centered on everyday people pulling off extraordinary feats, “Ordinary Angels” can’t help but embrace the sentimentality at its core. It’s baked into its DNA, and is the reason why this compelling, heartstring-pulling drama made it to the big screen 30 years after taking place — in a time when we too are searching for light in a bleak world. Yet what lifts the picture beyond average inspirational fluff is the way director Jon Gunn and company control the slow release of its sweetness so as not to overpower. This technique, though forgivably manipulative, works to grand effect and, by the end, even cynics will be won over by the human kindness on display.

‘Ordinary Angels’ Review: Hilary Swank’s Passionate Performance Drives True Faith Based Family Drama

Lionsgate’s collaboration with faith based movie producers Kingdom Story Company has reaped boxoffice rewards for both, and with their latest, Ordinary Angels, the inspiring true story of a small Kentucky town that comes together in a historic snowstorm in order to transport a 3-year-old girl to an Omaha hospital for a life-saving liver transplant, they have another surefire heartfelt film tailor-made for audiences looking for a little uplift. This actually would have made a perfect Christmas season release but has been delayed for several months, now opening in the same February corridor where Kingdom’s surprise hit, Jesus Revolution did well last year. Midwest crowds will especially respond to a never-say-never tale that is about bringing people together, not tearing them apart in this age of division.

Faithful viewers can catch the heartwarming film Ordinary Angels in theaters starting on February 23, 2024. Lionsgate's partnership with Kingdom Story Company brings this inspirational true story to the big screen. While streaming plans are still pending, fans may be able to watch Ordinary Angels on Peacock in August 2024.
A remarkable true story comes to life in Ordinary Angels, but where to watch the movie depends on a few factors and timing. The 2024 film comes from director Jon Gunn and writers Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig. Ordinary Angels tells the true story of a woman, Sharon Stevens, who takes it upon herself to help save the life of a young girl during a snowstorm in 1994. The film is set in Louisville during the North American cold wave that brought the coldest temperatures in decades to the Midwest and resulted in over 100 Americans dying.

Is Paramount+ cleaning house?
It seems that every scripted series that doesn't have Taylor Sheridan's name attached is getting the pink slip.
The latest series to get canceled is Joe Pickett, which recently wrapped its sophomore run on the service.
We get it: The streaming bubble has burst.
Amid the SAG-AFTRA strike and coming off the WGA strike, some controversial decisions have been made across the whole breadth of the business.
But this latest cancellation from Paramount+ hurts, mainly because the series didn't waste a single scene.
Paramount+ recently caught heat when it promoted the season finale as the series finale before walking the footage back.
These things happen.
It happened with Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin on Max, which went on to get renewed, so maybe it was a mistake.
But it doesn't get away from the fact that we're losing a gem of a series that delivered on many fronts.

Joe Pickett will not return for a third season. Paramount+ has canceled the series, starring Michael Dorman, after two seasons.
The series was originally commissioned by Spectrum in early 2021, which announced prior to the debut of season two that it would be shutting down Spectrum Originals. Paramount+ had the streaming rights to the series and seasons 1 and 2 will continue to be available on the service.
Joe Pickett followed a dedicated game warden (Dorman) and his family as they navigated the shifting sociopolitical climate of a small rural town on the verge of economic collapse.
In the most recent second season, the Wyoming game warden, played by Dorman, discovers a hunter murdered in the mountains and realizes his is just one of a series of gruesome murders. To solve the case and catch the killer, Joe must navigate a radical anti-hunting activist, a ghoulish set of twins living off the grid and his own tortured past.

“Joe Pickett” has been canceled at Paramount+ after two seasons, Variety has learned.
The drama series was originally commissioned by Charter Communications’ Spectrum Originals in early 2021. The first season aired on that platform beginning in December 2021, with Spectrum announcing a second season order in February 2022.
However, Spectrum Originals head Katherine Pope was named head of Sony Pictures Television in July 2022, with Charter announcing it would be shutting down Spectrum Originals operations in August of that year. Paramount+ has the streaming rights to the series, as it is produced by Paramount Television Studios, with Season 2 airing on the streaming service beginning in June 2023. Both seasons will remain available on the service for the time being.
“Joe Pickett” followed the title character, a Wyoming game warden played by Michael Dorman, as he investigates crimes in and around the town of Saddlestring. The series is based on the Joe Pickett novels written by C.J. Box.

Exclusive: The Kingdom Studios and Lionsgate drama Ordinary Angels starring 2x Oscar winner Hilary Swank is departing from its Oct. 13 theatrical release date as AMC’s Taylor Swift: The New Eras Tour looks to open to at least $70M off a female-heavy audience.
Universal’s The Exorcist: The Believer seeing the crazy amount of presales at $37M+ yesterday opted to go a week earlier on Oct. 6, which is much richer release date where Joker, and Venom have launched.
No bother for Ordinary Angels which is Tbd in regards to its release date. So, potentially waiting out the SAG-AFTRA strike is prudent for a smaller feature such as this.

"I have to make it! This is our last chance. If we don't take it, Michelle dies!" Lionsgate has debuted a new trailer for Ordinary Angels, a religious drama based on a real medical emergency and struggling family. Arriving in theaters nationwide starting this October, sticking with this date despite the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. Inspired by the true story of a hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill daughter who desperately needs a liver transplant. "Faith can make the impossible possible," is the tagline. This is leaning heavy on the religious side of the story, which means they will get the attention of many faithful Americans. The movie stars Hilary Swank as Sharon Steves, with Alan Ritchson, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, & Amy Acker, plus Skywalker Hughes and Emily Mitchell as the kids. This is as cheesy as they come!

This article contains spoilers for the first season of Joe Pickett and the first seven episodes of season two.As season two of Joe Pickett draws to a close, MovieWeb sat down with series stars Michael Dorman and Julianna Guill to discuss what’s been going on with the hit Paramount+ show. Dorman plays the titular Pickett, a game warden who becomes embroiled with the various criminal goings-on in his Wyoming town; Guill plays Joe’s wife Marybeth, a former lawyer.
Though it takes place in the modern day, Joe Pickett takes several cues from the Westerns of old. It’s also not the only show to do that of late, as evidenced by Yellowstone and its numerous spin-offs. When asked about what could be behind this sudden influx of shows in recent years, Guill responded that the Western has perhaps always been popular, or at least its core themes have:

The trailer for the new film Ordinary Angels showcases Hilary Swank's latest drama. The film, which was directed by Jon Gunn, is based on the true story of a Kentucky hairdresser named Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank) who pulled the community together to help save the daughter of a neighbor (Alan Ritchson), who desperately needs a liver transplant. The cast also includes Skywalker Hughes, Nancy Travis, Tamala Jones, Emily Mitchell, Drew Powell, and Angel's Amy Acker.
Today, Lionsgate premiered the official trailer for Ordinary Angels.
In addition to revealing the details of the movie's plot, the trailer showcases Swank's performance, which seems to draw on two Oscar-winning brassy female roles of the past, namely Julia Roberts' Erin Brockovich and Sandra Bullock's Leigh Anne Tuohy in 2009's The Blind Side. Lionsgate has already released two promotional stills for the film featuring Swank and Ritchson in a snowy scene. Check...

Exclusive: Jorge Vargas (‘Snowpiercer’), Tanaya Beatty (‘Yellowstone,’), and Skywalker Hughes (‘Joe Pickett’) are rounding out the previously announced cast of Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton’s In The Blink of an Eye starring Kate McKinnon, Rashida Jones, and Daveed Diggs. Principal photography has now commenced in British Columbia.
The movie follows three storylines, spanning thousands of years, intersect and reflect on hope, connection and the circle of life. Jared Ian Goldman (Ingrid Goes West, ‘Russian Doll’) produces the pic written and executive produced by Colby Day (Spaceman).
“From the first read I knew Colby Day’s script was special,” said Stanton, “and it has only become more rarified of a project as our team has formed. What a privilege to have such an ideal cast and crew realize this beautiful story.”
“Andrew is a visionary artist whose unique gifts as a storyteller shine in this beautiful film,” added Searchlight Presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum.

Too bad Joe’s predecessor, the now-retired — and holding court in the local bar — Vern Dunnegan (David Alan Grier) isn’t much help. “He wasn’t a by-the-book guy.
