Filipino director Yam Laranas did such a bang-up good job with his 2004 horror movie “Sigaw”, that he repeated the process on 2008’s “The Echo”, an English-language remake of “Sigaw” that went straight to DVD. Laranas is back with a new horror movie called “Patient X”, which has the makings of an effective “last stand in a haunted house” type, which is always something I’m down for. Here’s the not-all-that-coherent plot synopsis for “Patient X”: After twenty years, local police captures the murderer of the older brother of a young boy. Now a doctor, he must go back to his old town and face the murderers himself. He then discovers that the murderers are Aswangs (folkloric Filipino vampire-like creatures) and they pose a deadly threat not only to him but also for the entire town. Do a bit of digging over at filmmaker Yam Laranas' blog and you can find lots of things. Namely stills and a teaser from his latest flick, Patient X, which he has just finished post-production on.

The film which stars Richard Gutierrez and Heart Evangelista tells the story of what happens when local police capture the murderers of an older brother of a young boy after two decades. The surviving sibling, now a doctor, must go back to his old town and face the murderers once and for all. It's then that he discovers that the murderers are Aswangs (folkloric Filipino vampire-like creatures) and they pose a deadly threat not only to him but also for the entire town.

Being that Patient X is writer/director Yam Laranas' sophmore feature after the atmospheric Sigaw there is some anticipation for it among followers of Filipino genre cinema (which has indeed been booming lately). I just watched the first teaser (via: Twitch) and, while truly just a tease, it does look to be just as atmospheric and nasty as the first.

A film built around the legendary aswang - a creature from Filipino folklore that hunts human prey and feeds on their entrails.

Patient X star Richard Gutierrez and has only been filming for a few days apparently.

You’ve got to say this: They work fast in The Philippines. Writer-director Yam Laranas - best known in these parts for atmospheric horror picture Sigaw - is still hard at work on his upcoming Patient X and already the first teaser has arrived. He reunites here with his Sigaw star Richard Gutierrez for a film built around the legendary aswang - a creature from Filipino folklore that hunts human prey and feeds on their entrails. This is very much a tease - loaded with images that must have just been shot in the past few days after they had to re-cast their lead actress for medical reasons - but a damn good one. Angelica Locsin Colmeanares, commonly known as Angel Locsin, was born on April 23, 1985 in Bulacan, Philippines. She was the second child. Her parents were divided when she was fourteen and she has since lived with her father. Angel’s profession in show business began after she was spotted by a talent scout while shopping at Sm Mall. She auditioned for a number of commercials and shortly after she landed an agreement with Gma Network. She first appeared in Click, a teen-oriented program on the Gma Network, as the tomboyish Charley where she was matched with Railey Valeroso. She became widely known when she initially appeared on the cover of FHM Philippines. She also appeared on Ang Iibigin Ay Ikaw Pa Rin, All Together Now, and Love to Love. In 2004, Locsin acknowledged what is a well thought-out of her biggest break yet. She starred as one of the lead stars in the Mulawin.
