He ended the book with a goodbye: “I consider this chapter a swan song,” wrote Guralnick, who was 27 at the time. “Not only to the book but to my whole brief critical career. Next time you see me I hope I will be my younger, less self-conscious and critical self. It would be nice to just sit back and listen...

Los Angeles, Sep 10 (Ians) Hollywood star Tom Hanks is ready to resume work on September 23. He will be back to shoot for the untitled Elvis Presley film in Australia. Hanks was in that country filming the project earlier this year when he contracted Covid-19 in March.
Shooting for the Baz Luhrmann directorial will restart on September 23 after six months of the production shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been confirmed.
"We're back to, as Elvis liked to say, ‘taking care of business!' It is a real privilege in this unprecedented global moment that Tom Hanks has been able to return to Australia to join Austin Butler and all of our extraordinary cast and crew to commence production on ‘Elvis'," Luhrmann said.
"I cannot emphasise enough how lucky we feel in the current climate that the state of Queensland, and Queenslanders in general, have been so supportive of this film.

Screen production in Queensland is set to restart with the second season of Jonathan M. Shiff Productions’ The Bureau of Magical Things and a rom-com feature from the Steve Jaggi Company.
The cameras will roll on Shiff’s children’s fantasy, which was shut down in March, on June 29 on the Gold Coast.
On the same day, Jaggi and director Christine Luby will begin shooting This Little Love of Mine in Cairns. Scripted by Georgia Harrison, it’s a co-production with Nicely Entertainment, an La-based distribution and production company recently launched by former Gaumont exec Vanessa Shapiro.
Jaggi is producing with Kelly Son Hing and Spencer McLaren; the cast will be announced next week.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Shiff’s 20-part series is employing more than 200 cast and crew and injecting more than $8.5 million into the State’s economy.

Exclusive: Director Baz Luhrmann was days from starting production on his untitled Elvis Presley film when his Col. Tom Parker, Tom Hanks, came down with the coronavirus symptoms that shut down production instantly. The filmmaker has been safely tucked away with wife and collaborator Catherine Martin and their kids. Although they live in New York, the family stayed in their native Australia, and he spoke with Deadline after they’d completed fishing and crabbing –while maintaining proper social distancing — and in between Luhrmann’s efforts to create a new “Sunscreen,” a pandemic-relevant update to his 1999 smash hit song that mixed spoken word with music.
In a moment of profound depression over the spiraling pandemic, I asked Luhrmann right after the Hanks diagnosis if he would do a new version of the song. He demurred at first, but had a change of heart upon hearing the inspirational speech given by Queen Elizabeth II,...

Exclusive: Baz Luhrmann has recorded “Sunscreen,” a new pandemic-relevant version of “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen),” his 1998 spoken-word song that featured a common sense essay written as a hypothetical commencement speech with advice on how to live a happy, healthy life. Luhrmann this time sets to music mostly to the inspiring speech given recently by Queen Elizabeth II, which gave the pandemic a historical perspective on overcoming crises going back to WWII.
Luhrmann was struck by that speech and felt it was an exception to the lack of straight-shooting words of comfort in these times. He got together with his music team over Zoom last weekend and made the remix with the Queen’s speech and Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again.” If enough people from all walks of life send Luhrmann a video of themselves singing to it — the place to send is [email protected] — the Moulin Rouge...

Wilson and her husband Tom Hanks’ Covid-19 diagnosis underlined how pervasive the disease could be. She talks about the grim side-effects of the drugs she took to combat it – and her rap-aided recovery
Precisely when political leaders of certain countries grasped how much of a threat coronavirus really would be is a debatable issue. But for many members of the public, a precise date can be put on when the truth properly struck home: 13 March. That was when Tom Hanks announced on Instagram that he and his wife, the actor and singer Rita Wilson, a couple who are universally agreed to be Two of the Nicest Celebrities in the World, had tested positive for the virus in Australia, where Hanks had been shooting Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic. On The Daily Show, Trevor Noah said: “It’s almost like coronavirus chose Tom Hanks just to send a message to the rest of us.

When the news was released that Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson came down with coronavirus while shooting a film in Australia, it drove home that anyone, even one of our national treasures, wasn’t immuned to this horrible and rapidly spreading disease. But instead, they shared their diagnosis with the world.

Following the President's National Emergency address on Friday, nearly every major studio in Hollywood has announced production closures on upcoming movies both big and small. One studio that appeared to be bucking the trend was Warner Bros. It was reported earlier in the day that The Batman, currently shooting in the UK, and The Matrix 4, which just moved from San Francisco to a sound stage in Berlin, would both carry on production as planned. And Fantastic Beasts 3 was gearing up to shoot this Monday. Now, Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Batman will officially go on a two-week production hiatus.
The first movie to officially shut down was the upcoming Elvis biopic starring Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker. It was discovered that both Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson had tested positive for Coronavirus. Elvis went on hiatus in Australia, and quite a few more movies followed in its wake.

[Editor’s Note: This review contains spoilers for “Sanditon,” including the ending.]
It was winter when Jane Austen realized she was dying. In January 1817, she started her final novel, a comedic tale set in a fledgling seaside resort whose owners have ambitions to attract moneyed clientele from London and beyond. In March, she stopped writing, carefully noting the date: March 18, 1817.
In July — four months to the day after she wrote those last words — she died. Scholars still don’t know the cause, with speculation ranging from Addison’s disease to Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Austen was 41.
It’s easy to psychoanalyze that unfinished novel, “Sanditon.” Austen was ill, she wanted to escape to the shore — so she did in her writing. Her heroine, Charlotte Heywood, dreams of a more cosmopolitan place than her genteel-but-shabby country home packed with siblings, and an act of quick-thinking bravery earns her an invite to the seaside Sanditon to stay with the Parker family.

One of the most actors in Hollywood, Tom Hanks may be working the publicity at the Toronto Film Festival for ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood’ but the ‘Toy Story 4’ actor has signed up to star in the Mattel adaptation of ‘Major Matt Mason’.
Akiva Goldsman, who previously worked with Hanks on ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and ‘Angels & Demons,’ will adapt the script from a short story about the character from Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon.
Mason is an astronaut who lives and works on the moon and deals with both a space crew and various alien allies and villains.
When introduced in 1966, the figures were initially based on design information found in Life Magazine, Air Force Magazine, Jane’s, and other aviation- and space-interest periodicals. Later, the line attempted to transition into the realm of science fiction.

For their entire relationship (and beyond), Elvis and Priscilla Presley were the subject of intense gossip and speculation about their relationship. Their age gap has been one of the biggest focal points for scandal and gossip. Although they did have a fairly significant difference between their ages, that's really not the most controversial element to their relationship.
The age gap between Elvis and Priscilla is just a few months over 10 years. Elvis was born in January 1935, while Priscilla was born in 1945. That difference in ages, while not exactly small, is not the huge gap that some might imagine. By rock-star older husband/younger wife standards, it's not big at all! But, as with all things in Elvis's life, there's more to the story than that, and the reality isn't exactly a romantic fairy tale.

PBS and ITV have unveiled the first trailer for period drama Sanditon. The series is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel Sanditon that stars Reign star Rose Williams and Downton Abbey and Divergent’s Theo James.
Williams and James star alongside Last Tango In Halifax’s Anne Reid and Love Actually’s Kris Marshall in the eight-part series. Produced by Death in Paradise producer Red Planet Pictures, it was written by War and Peace and Mr Selfridge writer Andrew Davies.
Written only months before Austen’s death in 1817, Sanditon tells the story of the impulsive, spirited and unconventional Charlotte Heywood, played by Williams, and her spiky relationship with the charming Sidney Parker, played by James. When a chance accident transports her from her rural hometown of Willingden to a would-be coastal resort, it exposes Charlotte to the intrigues and dalliances of a seaside town on the make.
