*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Monarch Home Entertainment. Director: Christian Charles. Writer: Ryan Oxford. Cast: Charlotte Rae, Matthew Settle, M. Emmet Walsh and Katia Winter. Love Sick Love received a theatrical release in several major markets in April, 2013, before moving to home entertainment formats in May. This title was marketed as a thriller, but there are more romantic-comedy tones here, compared to anything else. Much of the excitement from the trailer is missing in this fairly short film endeavour. The comedy improves through the film's second half; yet, Love Sick Love seems like a cautious outing, with few surprises. The film can best be described as Misery (1990) meets Fatal Attraction (1987), in story. But, the tension, mystery and unpredictability from these two films is missing here. Instead, central character Norman (Matthew Settle) simply goes along with his psycho girlfriend's plans to visit an isolated home.

Spring and love are in the air, but let's face it... so are heavy doses of pollen and broken-hearted misery, too. I mean, you can't force anyone to love you, right? Well, maybe... at least that's the case in the new flick Love Sick Love!

When a film mashes up two seemingly unlike genres, we're too quick to praise the hybridization as a "fresh twist" or subversion of formula, even if those disparate elements aren't engaging each other thematically or aesthetically. (For instance, has anyone married zombie horror with comedy as flavorfully as Shaun of the Dead?) The fourth feature from director Christian Charles—following the Jerry Seinfeld doc Comedian, the teen dramedy Full of It, and a Cheech and Chong reunion concert—attempts to transform meet-cute romance into an absurdist fatal-attraction thriller, but ends up neither fish nor fowl. A shallow, womanizing Manhattan businessman (Matthew Settle) is warned by an office sidekick (Jim Gaffigan) that he's leading on his hot new girlfriend ...

Just when you thought it was safe to settle back and enjoy a nice indie romantic comedy full of witty and insightful commentary on the nature of modern relationships, along comes the new film Love Sick Love. This is a movie that goes from plot twist to plot twisted.
The story begins with Dori, an attractive woman in the big city, phoning her current love interest, Norman. It is immediately established (with some humorous assistance from a co-worker played by comedian Jim Gaffigan) that Norman is a player. He has an eye for the ladies, is sleeping with his ex, and regards Dori as ‘casual sex’. as the cliche goes. Dori obviously feels differently, and invites Norman away to a secluded country home for the weekend. Ignoring Dori’s clear signals of attachment, Norman accepts and is soon plunged into a single man’s nightmare of dating and demented holiday celebrations.

With a new documentary about the life of Bill Hicks opening in New York City this weekend, it seemed like a good time to dig deeper into the world of documentaries about stand-up comedians. And, pending an thorough examination, this is what we found: there aren't a lot of good ones. Obviously there are plenty of concert films of stand-ups, just not a ton of docs about stand-ups, and most of the ones that do exist aren't very good. "American," which is smartly edited and constructed, is a fine exception. Here are five more:
"The Comedians of Comedy" (2005)

As "The Comedians of Comedy" opens, Patton Oswalt talks about one of the worst gigs of his life: Yuk-a-Buck Night, six comedians, six bucks, one comedy club. Places like that Yuk-a-Buck joint, with their lowest common denominator expectations and two drink minimums, are the reason Oswalt gathered together Brian Posehn,...

There is no question about it ... Cheech & Chong are comedy legends! The pot-smoking duo began their career as stand-up comics in the early '70s and gained attention for a string of popular comedy albums, which featured hit songs like "Basketball Jones." However, it was their feature film debut in '1978s Up In Smoke that made them icons to stoners all around the world. The two broke up in the mid '80s and with rumors of bad blood between the former friends; fans thought that they would never see they'd see the dynamic duo of dope together again. Chances started to look even slimmer in 2003 when Tommy was unjustly arrested and incarcerated for "conspiring to distribute drug paraphernalia," but upon his release in 2004 rumors started to fly about the two comedians finally reuniting. In 2008, the team publicly announced that they would be reuniting for an upcoming tour, titled...
