Frank Herbert’s sandy lore is returning to the screens once again through Dune: Prophecy and the buzz surrounding it couldn’t be stronger. After the majestic success of Denis Villeneuve’s film series based on Herbert’s novel series of the same name, the hype around the saga is still as strong as ever, and fans are hoping for nothing but the best.

That being said, there is one interesting element about this upcoming series that is good news for fans: The fact that the show will be adapting one major arc from the novels about the Imperium. What makes this all the more worth waiting for is that this arc wouldn’t be as minutely adapted as Villeneuve’s saga did and would explore it more widely.

Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Messiah may be some way off yet (December 2026 if reports are to be believed), but we don't have that long to wait before we return to the universe of spice and space politicking Frank Herbert built. HBO has just dropped the second teaser trailer for Dune: Prophecy (via SFFGazette.com), the upcoming small screen prequel which we believe is meant to be a standalone story unconnected to Denis Villeneuve's movies.
It's also been confirmed today that the show will premiere this November, so we're now just waiting for an exact date.
While not quite as visually stunning as those big screen adaptations, the show does have the same look and feel even if it's hard to shake the feeling it might end up being "Dune on a budget." Still, we're intrigued by what we see here and, for fans of Frank Herbert and the Sisterhood of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, this story being told on screen is long-overdue.

"I am trying to protect the Imperium." WB has unveiled another new teaser trailer for the epic sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, a spin-off TV series streaming on Max at the end of this year. We also posted the initial first look teaser back in May. Set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, before the universe knew them as the Bene Gesserit... This is directly connected to Denis Villeneuve's two (so far) brilliant Dune movies but takes place in the distant past. Based on the book "Sisterhood of Dune" by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert (Frank's son). A better intro from the novel: "It is eighty-three years after the last of the thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler took the name of Corrino and established himself as the first Emperor of a new Imperium. Great changes are brewing that will shape and twist all of humankind.

If "House of the Dragon" season 2 isn't quite enough to scratch your itch for great noble houses, plotting, and backstabbing, then don't worry, backup is on the way! It comes in the form of "Dune: Prophecy." a prequel series set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert's original novel (recently adapted into two movies by director Denis Villeneuve), which tells the origin story of the Bene Gesserit. This sisterhood of space witches uses ancestral memory and preternatural foresight to manipulate power across the galaxy through careful "breeding" of the noble houses.
The first teaser for "Dune: Prophecy" felt very much like "Game of Thrones ... in Space!" -- though that is pretty much the entire premise of the "Dune" franchise (which predates "Game of Thrones" by several decades). Alison Schapker, who has prior experience bringing elaborate sci-fi worlds to life on "Westworld" and "Altered Carbon" serves as showrunner for the series.

What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.
Denis Villeneuve is not directing any episodes

The company is now continuing this shift with the move of The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy.
Both shows will now premiere on HBO as well as launching on its Max streaming service.
It is part of a strategy to rebrand its highest profile titles into HBO Originals, giving them a linear airing on the premium cable network as well as a streaming bow.
When the move was originally unveiled in June, the company said it was not sure whether The Penguin, which is set to premiere in September, and Dune: Prophecy would fall under the new branding but this has now been cleared up.

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content shared the first trailer for Dune: Prophecy during today's Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation.
Despite being very much in line with what we've seen from Dune in theaters (albeit with perhaps a few more splashes of colour), the pressure is on this series to live up to Denis Villeneuve's critically acclaimed movies. Amidst the pomp and circumstance surrounding the Imperium delegation’s arrival to the Atreides home world of Caladan, Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), has a practical question. “How much did it cost them, traveling all this way for this formality?” he asks his Mentat Thufir Hawat at the start of Dune. And then Thufir, played by Stephen McKinley Henderson, does something weird. He doesn’t whip out a palm pilot or consult his calculator watch. He instead rolls his eyes into the back of his head for a couple of seconds and then produces an answer: “Three Guild Navigators, a total of one-point-four-six-million-sixty-two Solaris roundtrip.” Director Denis Villeneuve nor his co-writers Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth explain what any of those words mean in the script, or why Thufir does that weird thing with his eyes. And viewers easily chalk it up just another weird thing in this unfamiliar world.

The “Dune” universe is expanding to TV, and going way, way back in time to do it.
During Warner Bros.’ Upfront presentation on Wednesday, HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys introduced the first teaser for “Dune: Prophecy,” a prequel series spinoff of the hit sci-fi film franchise. The six-episode season will premiere on Max this fall.
“Dune: Prophecy” is inspired by the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert (son of original “Dune” series author Frank Herbert) and Kevin J. Anderson. Set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides (Timotheé Chalamet), the series tells the story of the founding of the Bene Gesserit, the secretive, all-female (until Paul Atreides) order of superhuman power brokers who advise leaders and influence world events.
It follows sisters Valya (Oscar and Emmy nominee Emily Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) as they fight forces that threaten humanity’s future and create what becomes the Bene Gesserit.

"Sisterhood above all..." Warner Bros has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the epic new sci-fi series Dune: Prophecy, a spin-off TV series streaming on Max later in 2024 (aiming for a fall release). It's set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides, before the universe knew them as the Bene Gesserit... This is directly connected to Denis Villeneuve's two (so far) brilliant Dune movies but it's not a direct prequel since it's set so far in the past. It's also based on the book "Sisterhood of Dune" by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert (Frank's son). The intro to that book is much more fascinating: "It is eighty-three years after the last of the thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler took the name of Corrino and established himself as the first Emperor of a new Imperium. Great changes are brewing that will...

Chances are, you’re desperate for more Dune. Denis Villeneuve’s initial adaptation was a knockout. This year’s follow-up, Dune: Part Two, was another sandworm-sized behemoth. And sadly, the much-prophecied Part Three (to be based on Dune Messiah) is likely still many years away. But fear not – the Bene Gesserit are always scheming in the background, and their latest plot is to keep your veins pumped full of Spice between movies. The way they do that? Get ready for Dune: Prophecy, a streaming series set in the Herbert-verse, taking place 10,000 years before the arrival of Paul Muad’dib Atreides, and exploring the origins of the witchy-woman order themselves. Watch the trailer here:
There might not be any sandworms or Spice shenanigans here, but Dune: Prophecy looks set to satiate those hooked on the recent big-screen adaptations. The series features several familiar faces – with Emily Watson and Olivia Williams leading the way,...

We've seen David Lynch's psychedelic take on the first "Dune" novel in his 1984 film, we witnessed the precipitous rise of Paul Atreides through director Denis Villeneuve's two epic and complex blockbusters, but we've never seen anything quite like this. Amid all the wars and politicking and worm-riding, the mysterious sect of women pulling the strings behind the curtain known as the Bene Gesserit have hardly received the spotlight that they probably deserve. Until "Part Two" introduced us to Léa Seydoux's Lady Margot Fenring, Rebecca Ferguson's Lady Jessica and Charlotte Rampling's Reverend Mother were the only two members of this religious order that viewers ever actually met.
That finally changes in a big way with the upcoming spin-off series slated to debut on Max, initially known as "Dune: The Sisterhood" but since rebranded as "Dune: Prophecy." (Max sadly turned down my own personal pitches for the title: "Space...

Olivia Williams, the BAFTA-winning actress and recent SAG Awards nominee as an ensemble member for her performance as Camilla Parker Bowles on “The Crown,” has worked on the British stage in classic and new productions. But in a new interview, she points to a beloved American sitcom as an “alarming” and “harrowing” experience when compared to other gigs.
Williams appeared as a bridesmaid in the fourth season finale, in which Ross (David Schwimmer) married Emily (Helen Baxendale) in London. (You may recall some zany hijinks at some historic landmarks.) Speaking with The Independent, the actress recalled the “alarming” experience of sharing a car with an elderly actress Williams described as “distinguished” and “very good” who was later berated by a producer and told, “You’re not funny!” According to Williams, the unnamed performer was not on set the following day.
“‘Friends’ was a brand,” she continued, “and you had to fit the brand.

Olivia Williams has given acclaimed performances in “Rushmore,” “The Sixth Sense” and “An Education.” She recently appeared as Camilla Parker Bowles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s popular drama series “The Crown.” But for many people, the British actor will always be Felicity from the Season 4 finale of “Friends.” Williams once called guest starring on the NBC sitcom “harrowing,” and she recently opened up to The Independent about the reasons why it wasn’t the best experience in a recent interview.
“Gosh. Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Williams said, noting this actor was “distinguished” and “very good” but “at one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.

Who’s ready for a Sandworm ride? The long-awaited (and delayed) sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is getting spicy in theaters, and we want to know what you think about the film! Anticipation for Dune: Part Two has been through the roof since last year, and then the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes hit Hollywood. Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. Film Group agreed to delay the film until 2024, knowing that a robust promotional campaign for the science-fiction epic would serve the project (and the box office) well.
The delay is paying off as Dune: Part Two already took $12 million home from preview screenings. The film debuted in 4,500 locations, with Imax screenings bringing in 38% of the pot. I’ve got tickets for an 11:30 screening at my local theater tomorrow, joining the crowds already rushing to theaters to experience one of 2024’s most anticipated features. Earlier this week, we attended the...

Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel "Dune" is a massively complicated story -- one that's so dense with lore that it required a glossary of terms and characters when it was first published in 1965. Even attentive readers likely had to spend hours flipping back and forth between the main text of the book and the glossary just so they could understand what a Mentat was or discover the translation of "Muad'Dib."
When Denis Villeneuve adapted the first half of "Dune" to film in 2021, only those of us who had read the original novel, and perhaps also watched David Lynch's 1984 film, could likely follow the story the first time through. There are so many factions and so many characters that it might be difficult to keep them all straight. Once one gets their mind around the various factions within the "Dune" mythos, though, the characters and story begin to fall into place.
