Split across three different venues over the course of three days, Slam Dunk Festival has been a celebration of pop-punk, rock, metal and even drum and bass over recent years. Nominated for UK Festival Awards in previous years, Slam Dunk has always prided itself on its accessibility and openness to its audiences.
This year Slam Dunk will be taking place from May 27-May 29 in Leeds, Birmingham and Hatfield accordingly, and so far the line-up is a mixed bag of awesomeness.
Not only is it welcoming headliners Enter Shikari to the main stage, but it will also be giving them the chance to play their debut album Take To The Skies (2007) for its tenth anniversary.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Other names such as Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Neck Deep, We Are The Ocean, Bowling for Soup, Don Broco and Deaf Havana will be hitting the stages to entertain the huge crowds.

Are we really only two episodes into this season? So much happened this week, and there were so many moments of genuine emotion, that it felt like we were much further along. Like, penultimate-episode-of-the-series further in. If, like me, you found yourself a little disappointed with the season opener, this episode probably fixed that. It definitely reminded me why I fell in love with this show in the first place.

#FlashbackFriday, indeed! Nick Carter's got a new single and music video, and People has an exclusive first look. As unabashedly catchy as anything the Backstreet Boys ever released, Carter's new track "19 in 99" is in the same reminiscent vein as Bowling for Soup's hit "1985," looking back on (and pokes fun at) his guy group's glory days, paying homage to the year before he'd been on earth for two decades. In addition to numerous nods to the '90s (including a Tupac-blaring boombox and a pair of Reeboks), the track features lyrics like: "Countdown back to Millennium, bleach blond, party on / Tank tops,...

Sandlot Heroes is enticing fans to ‘Come Back’ with the release of their new single. The three piece rock band, which hails from Allentown and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, stepped into the studio in December 2012 to write new songs and creatively evolve towards the next level. ‘Come Back’ was released today as on their label, Sandlot Heroes, LLC. ‘Come Back’ was written after Sandlot Heroes toured America with such bands as Yellowcard, We Are The In Crowd, The Wonder Years and Bowling For Soup. After spending most of last year writing songs that would distinguish them from traditional pop-rock, the band is planning to release many more singles this year. Sandlot [ Read More ]

The attitude-heavy compilation is a must for fans of bands like Blink 182, Smash Mouth and P.O.D. and is the perfect way to celebrate the golden era of pop punk, when jeans were baggier, hoodies were hoodier and only the people who didn’t care about being cool had tattoos.

Somehow during the indie rock influx, the tongue in cheek charm of Vans Warped Tour bands got ousted from the 21st Century rock genre. In case you’ve never been to the festival, Warped Tour is typically infiltrated by the self-deemed rebels of high school. Outfits, such as Paramore, AFI, The Academy Is…, Bayside, Bowling For Soup, Thrice, The Starting Line, Something Corporate, Jimmy Eat World, Jack’s Mannequin and Good Charlotte, have all donned the stage at least one time in their career. Lately, the punk rock sub-category has been on the bench and the trendy ways of hipster rock has been at the forefront of the music scene. Everyone loves [ Read More ]

Analeigh Tipton and Miles Teller have both been very much on the rise in recent years, and are two of the few already-excellent actors at their ages of just 23 and 25.
Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, the upcoming Gangster Squad) has clearly taken note, because as a producer on the Black List romantic comedy, Two Night Stand, Variety report that he’s paired the two in the leading roles.
“Story follows a pair of unlikely lovers who are trapped together in an apartment after a record-breaking blizzard forces them to extend a regrettable one-night stand.”
It’s a short and sweet idea, and they tend to make for some of the best comedies, so I’m already really looking forward to this.
Music video director Max Nichols (Bowling for Soup, Bullet for My Valentine) will be behind the camera, directing from the Black List script by Mark Hammer.

Let us hope that this announcement ushers in a new wave of talented romantic comedy stars that people actually want to watch fall in love on screen. Variety reports that rising stars Analeigh Tipton (Damsels in Distress, Crazy, Stupid, Love.) and Miles Teller (Rabbit Hole, Footloose, the upcoming The Spectacular Now) will star in Max Nichols‘ feature debut Two Night Stand. The film comes from Mark Hammer‘s 2011 Black List script of the same name, which centers on a pair of non-lovebirds trapped together by a sudden blizzard after an ill-advised one night stand. Back when the film appeared on the Black List, it came with the somewhat extended logline: “After an extremely regrettable one night stand, two strangers wake up to find themselves snowed in after sleeping through a blizzard that put all of Manhattan on ice. They’re now trapped together in a tiny apartment, forced to get to know each other way more than...

Known for her high-profile marriage to boy bander Nick Lachey, this singer/actress famously rocked Daisy Dukes in 2005's The Dukes of Hazzard. Her reputation as a lover got a boost from John Mayer when he once referred to her as "sexual napalm." Now she's in the headlines for quickly packing on the pounds while pregnant with hubby Eric Johnson's baby. Here are five things you may not know about Jessica Simpson.
1. Born July 10, 1980 in Abilene, TX - her mother was a homemaker and her father a youth minister and psychologist.
2. At 12 years old, made it to the final audition to become a Mouseketeer on The New Mickey Mouse Club, but she told People magazine she screwed up her performance at the last minute. "I froze and forgot everything."
3. Earned the knickname "rabbit" because of her prominent teeth. "I can make the best bunny face," she once said. "No one can stay mad at me when...

Pop-punk is like an itch. Scratch it, and you’ll find relief, only for the itch to resurface again after a while. Ignore it, you’ll forget about it and won’t give it a second thought. The popularity of pop-punk can’t be questioned, but what can be questioned about the genre is whether it’s viable that it’s as popular as it is. Yeah, okay, sing-along-choruses and catchy hooks are always a winner, but doesn’t it feel like a genre that’s been replicated far too often? That it’s got a limited sound? Fair enough, it’s understandable that some people may enjoy the never-grow-old feel pop punk captures but once you do actually grow up and grow away from that style of music it feels it’s a genre stuck in its ways,...

In what may be the most deserving entry ever in our “This really only needs one sentence” blog category, today marks the 10th anniversary – literally, down to the day, February 15, 2002 – of the release of Britney Spears’ landmark crime saga drama Crossroads.
The movie starred Britney Spears in her first and only leading film role and featured Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning as Britney’s two childhood friends – no, best friends – who roadtrip across the country and, according to IMDb, “find themselves and their friendship in the process.”
While we’re on the subject of IMDb, it should be noted that...

Everyone is eager to relate anything they can to Twilight these days, hoping to draw the attention of the many fans or just having a little fun with it. The latest to take on Twilight is the cartoon Phineas and Ferb which will draw on both the vampires and werewolves from The Saga while using some voice talent from True Blood. Check out a clip from Phineas and Ferb below:
“That’s the Spirit!: The Curse of Candace” – Phineas and Ferb
True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are going to be appearing on a Disney series, specifically on Phineas and Ferb. The two are lending their voices to the animated series’ Halloween flavored episode. They appear in the segment called “The Curse of Candace”. Phineas and Ferb’s older sister, Candace, goes to see the newest teen vampire movie, which is a parody of Twilight in the best way.
Moyer, who is best known as the vampire king, Bill Compton, is voicing a pretty boy vampire named Jared. Paquin voices the fake movie’s female lead, Kristen. If you’re sharp like a tack, you’ll notice Kristen is named after Twilight’s star, Kristen Stewart.
You can check out a clip of the episode at TV Guide. Now if you’ve ever seen Twilight, you’ll know there’s also a teenaged werewolf. Phineas and Ferb includes one of those in its parody, and who better to voice a teen wolf than the original Teen Wolf himself, Michael J. Fox. Fox voices the well-built, shirtless and appropriately named Michael. For a Disney series, this parody is pretty sharp. I say we all give it a round of applause for going there and using True Blood stars and Fox to make it’s jokes all the more hilarious.
See the full story at Boomtron here.
I love Phineas and Ferb, it’s cute, smart and fun, and they have the best theme song. The song is written by the band Bowling for Soup, and is a blast to hear live. I can’t believe I didn’t hear about this episode sooner, I’m going to see if I can catch it again this month.
Did you catch this episode of Phineas and Ferb? If you didn’t see it, tune in to The Disney Channel, they frequently replay episodes! For instance the episode will be played at 9am Est and 4pm Est tomorrow (10/10/11), 5:30am Est on Tuesday (10/11/11), and 7:30pm Est Wednesday (10/12/11). Pop stars Hanson boosted relief efforts following Japan's earthquake and tsunami disasters by staging a 12-hour telethon in Texas on Saturday, March 19. The "Mmmbop" trio teamed up with organizers behind the South By Southwest festival in Austin for the telethon, which featured performances and appearances from acts including R.E.M. rocker Michael Stipe, The Boxer Rebellion, Bowling For Soup and The Parlotones, among others.
The gig, which was streamed online and coincided with the SXSW festival's close, saw performers urging viewers to donate to the American Red Cross and aid victims in Japan. Songs recorded at the event will later be sold as a part of a benefit project.
The earthquake and resulting tsunami earlier this month left countless dead and homeless in Japan.

Hanson have announced plans for a 12-hour benefit livestream set for Saturday (March 19) at South by Southwest, to aid victims of the massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan.
The event, which will stream live at SXSW4Japan.org , features performances and appearances from Michael Stipe, John Hermann of Widespread Panic, the North Mississippi Allstars, the Court Yard Hounds, Bowling for Soup — to name just a few — plus Hanson themselves.
The benefit is co-sponsored by SXSW itself, which originally started with a goal of raising $10,000 for survivors of the disasters in Japan, a goal they've subsequently raised to $100,000 thanks to Hanson's involvement. Fans can donate through the SXSW 4 Japan site, or by texting "Redcross" to 90999. All funds go to the Red Cross's disaster-relief efforts in Japan.

American Idol opened up last night with an important reminder about the Red Cross Japan Relief Fund that Fox has partnered up with. The show was uplifted with the top 12 contestants performing a mash-up of “Born To Be Wild” and “Born This Way.” While Jacob Lusk may have butchered his portion of the song, Thia Megia should definitely sing another Lady Gaga number.
Before getting to the elimination results, two special performances as well as an Idol music video, and more were seen across America. The American Idol Season 10 Ford music video set to Bowling for Soup’s “Val Kilmer” was as cheesy as it could ever be. A promo of the American Idol 10th Anniversary album, which has just released, would have been much more interesting than the music video and Ryan Seacrest’s brief album release announcement combined. The Idoldome giveth and it taketh away. In the case of Thursday night’s Top 12 results show, it offered us a group performance that (for once) delivered the goods, plus some St. Patrick’s Day stage lighting and a snazzy drink coaster 10th Anniversary Idol CD. "American Idol" sent home another finalist Thursday night (March 17). After a Bottom 3 of Naima Adedapo, Karen Rodriguez and Haley Reinhart, Karen ultimately did not have the luck o' the Irish. But how did we get there?
Ryan kicks things off with a PSA about texting "redcross" to 90999 to donate $10 to the relief effort in Japan. Um, J.Lo is dressed like she's Amish and Steven Tyler counterbalances that by being dressed like Liza Minnelli. Do you suppose they are having a competition for who can dress more crazypants every week? Poor Randy, he gets left out of everything.
But before any results, we have to have the group sing on a "Born" mashup.. Scotty, Paul and James actually sound pretty good on "Born to be Wild." Then Naima, Lauren and Karen take on "Born This Way" and that's alright too. This is actually a pretty great mashup, right? And they...

In a rare occurrence, the two major films opening this weekend are both original scripts and not sequels, remakes, adaptations or comic books. The Tom Cruise action flick "Knight and Day" will hit screens across the country, as will the comedy "Grown Ups." The latter film features a veritable all-star team of comic actors, including Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider. It's the comedy film equivalent of a supergroup (they're like the Traveling Wilburys, with Sandler as Bob Dylan, Rock as George Harrison, James as Roy Orbison, Spade as Tom Petty and Schneider as Jeff Lynne). The quintet play a pack of high school friends who get back together for a reunion and attempting to recapture and understand something about their youth. It's a sweet movie with an amazing cast (the flick also stars Salma Hayek, Maria Bellow, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi, Tim Meadows and Colin Quinn,...

Usually Wake-Up Video is devoted to a great moment in music history, a notable birthday, an important event in sports or a vital holiday. But sometimes, it just helps to get a little boost to get things going on a Wednesday morning. Sometimes, you just need to get over the hump. Sometimes you need Mötley Crüe.
There's no shortage of news in the Crüe universe at the moment (for the sort of band they are, they have showed shocking resilience). Frontman Vince Neil has a forthcoming solo album as well as a memoir coming out later this summer (they are both titled Tattoos and Tequila), and drummer Tommy Lee just announced that the new album by Methods of Mayhem will be hitting the streets soon. And in between all that, the Crüe will be venturing out on the road as part of the Ozzfest tour in August, where they'll share...

The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and The Last Airbender star Jackson Rathbone and the 100 Monkeys will be teaming up this April to put on a tribute concert for Spencer Bell, their lost friend and fellow musician. In addition to memorializing Spencer Bell, the concert will benefit the Spencer Bell Legacy and help to raise awareness for adrenal cancer. 100 Monkeys will be joined by Evro and The Kissing Club, and the concert will take place on April 24th, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. For those interested in attending this performance, there will also be a few contests and giveaways associated with the event. There are a handful of new albums available today, including the latest psychedelic freakout from the Flaming Lips and Bob Dylan's Christmas album. But the one new release that guarantees a party is the latest from Bowling for Soup. Sorry for Partyin' features 14 tracks worth of good-time riffs, drink-along choruses and cheeky lyrics about beer and girls. And though the title of the album suggests that they've got a bit of regret, they want to reassure fans that they shouldn't take it seriously.
"It's more of a sarcastic thing," frontman Jaret Reddick told MTV News. "We're not actually sorry."
Indeed, the Grammy-nominated (for "Girl All the Bad Guys Want") group is unapologetic about most things. Take the video for "Wena," for example, which features one of Reddick's Facebook friends dressed as a giant phallus. "That song could be about a girl named Wena, or it could be about a dog,...

It may say October 13 on the calendar, but it’s Christmas as far as labels are concerned. A cascade of holiday titles hit stores today led by Bob Dylan’s first ever Christmas album. David Archuleta, “Christmas From the Heart” (Jive): After only one studio album, Archuleta is already playing the holiday card. The CD is largely a collection of traditional carols, such as “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night,” both perfect fits for his expressive voice. Bowling for Soup, “Sorry for Partyin’ (Jive): Grammy and Emmy-nominated group known for its fun pop ditties returns with its 10th studio album....

Plenty of people write nasty stuff about All Time Low, whether it's dismissing their goofy videos with stuff like "the only way this clip could've been more offensive is if they would've performed it in blackface," or writing off their music as nothing more than generic pop-punk written by four dudes with swooping, fashionable haircuts.
Frontman Alex Gaskarth has read (and heard) it all, and he'll actually agree with most of it. But he's more than willing to try and change people's minds.
"We are a haircut band, for sure. We've been lumped into that category, but what a lot of people don't realize is that we've been doing this since we were freshmen [in high school]," Gaskarth told MTV News.
