Veteran actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has remembered late actress Sulochana Latkar, who passed away on June 3 aged 94. He called himself “extremely fortunate” to play her “reel” son in many films.
In a heartwarming tribute on Twitter, Shatrughan wrote: “Extremely fortunate to have played her reel son in many films as she epitomized her portrayal of a ‘mother’ on celluloid. Grateful, enduring, veteran, Marathi & Hindi films actress #Sulochana is no more.”
The two have worked together in films such as ‘Raampur Ka Lakshman’, ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ and ‘Chor Ho To Aisa’.
He added: “It was a great pleasure working with her & I cherish the memories from the times spent together, especially when I met her for my 1st film with her for Manmohan Desai’s famous ‘Raampur Ka Lakshman’.”

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has mourned the loss of “another great of our Cinema World” Sulochana Latkar, who passed away aged 94 on June 3.
Amitabh took to his blog and wrote that the veteran star had played a caring and generous mother to him in several films.
“We have lost another great of our Cinema World – Sulochana ji .. the gentle, generous, caring Mother that played in several films with me .. she had been ailing for some time .. and this afternoon she left for her heavenly abode,” Amitabh wrote.
He added: “I had been monitoring here condition with her family .. but finally the sad news !”
“We can only pray in such unforgiving circumstances ..”

The New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff) announced the full lineup last night for their 16th year of celebrating independent, art house, alternate, and diaspora films from/about/connected to the Indian subcontinent (May 7 – May 14). Dedicated to bringing these films to a New York audience, the festival will feature 40 screenings (35 narrative, 5 documentary) –all seen for the first time in New York City. In addition, the festival will also feature five programs of short films.
The festival highlights various cinemas of India’s different regions. All the films are subtitled in English and some of the languages this year include Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telegu, Assamese, Haryanavi and Urdu. New Delhi, Oct 4: Legendary Indian singer Manna Dey has died at the age of 94 at a Bangalore hospital following a recurring lung infection and renal failure.
Dey leaves behind two daughters, his wife Sulochana predeceasing him in 2012
Born Prabodh Chandra Dey on May 1, 1919, the versatile singer began his playback career in 1943 with the film Tamanna and has sung over 3,500 songs in Hindi, Bengali, Assamese and other regional languages.
The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007.
Dey's greatest hits include 'Ae meri zohrajabeen'.
