Yusef Lateef, who died on Monday after a bout with prostate cancer, was a devout Muslim who did not like his music to be called jazz because of the supposed indecent origins and connotations of the word (although those origins are still debated). He preferred the self-coined phrase "autophysiopsychic music." Furthermore, his music encompassed an impressively broad range of styles, and the only Grammy he won was in the New Age category -- for a recording of a symphony. Think about those things amid the flood of Lateef obituaries with "jazz" in the headline.
That said, certainly Lateef's own musical origins indisputably revolved around jazz. Growing up in Detroit, a highly fertile musical environment in the 1930s and beyond, Lateef got his first instrument, an $80 Martin alto sax, at age 18. Within a year he was on the road with the 13 Spirits of Swing (arrangements by Milt Buckner).

We may forget the past, but it never forgets us! We have a completely new trailer for Steve Stone‘s upcoming horror flick (or maybe the right word is paranormal thriller after all?) Entity, which is (unfortunately) still without an official release date. But, it looks pretty cool to me, so I’m here to share some pictures, poster and of course the second trailer for the whole thing. Hope you’ll like it!
In case you’re not so familiar with this project, I will first inform you that it comes from writer and director Stone, who already revealed:
…this is not a foundfootage film – this is something else…
What exactly?

Upon watching the first five seconds of the trailer for Steve Stone's Entity, you'll probably think, "Please, not another cookie-cutter found-footage horror film." However, by the time it finishes, you may find yourself writing your local film festival and demanding they schedule this little nightmare.
Entity was recently completed and is currently being submitted to festivals. Judging by the sleek trailer, writer/director Stone seems to have captured some real frights with this UK thriller. Check out the stills and trailer below and see if you don't agree.

If you’d like to enter, head over to the official Faster Facebook page.
Since we’ve been covering Faster extensively over the past few months (click here to read our coverage), you know this is Johnson’s return to kicking ass and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve said many times that while I understand why Johnson made those family films, I’ve always thought he should be one of the biggest action stars on the planet.

We’ve posted a number of trailers for Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Faster over the past few months, and now comes the very first clip for the film courtesy of the guys at Collider.
Faster stars Johnson as Driver, an ex-con who sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. During his campaign, however, he’s tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man.
After 10 years in prison, Driver (Dwayne Johnson) has a singular focus – to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he’s finally on his mission…but with two men on his trail – a veteran cop (Billy Bob Thornton) just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) with a flair...

Some movie trailers, like the first for this summer's hit "Inception," reveal absolutely nothing about the film but leave viewers with an unquenchable thirst to see it. Other trailers, like the one just released for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's action-thriller "Faster," basically leave viewers feeling like they've just watched the entire movie in the span of two-and-a-half minutes. But, as the "Faster" trailer illustrates, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
The clip shows Johnson's character Driver -- who's fresh off a 10-year prison sentence and looking to avenge his brother's murder -- methodically blowing away most of his bro's killers (there are like 10) while being pursued by a soon-to-be-retired cop (Billy Bob Thornton), a young Abercrombie-model-looking hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and Shannon from "Lost" (Maggie Grace).
Sure, the trailer probably shouldn't have shown (or implied) some of those killings, but we're going to go out on a limb and...
